V7 Major Playback Bug - Garbled Sound

Just upgraded to iTunes V7. Now I cannot play anything from within iTunes. When playing a song, it is just garbled. You can hear the song enough to tell what it is. But it is severly distorted. More of a "repeating warbling" type sound. Like a scratched record that is playing the same section over a few times before moving on. Also, when I double click a song to play, it takes 12-15 seconds before any sound at all comes out.
In my other players, like Windows media, songs play just fine. All other audio seems OK. Just now cannot play anything in iTunes V7.
I have had iTunes since at least version 4 or 5, and upgraded everytime a new version came out. Each time with no issues until now.
Using Windows XP, SP2
2 Gig RAM
2 Terabytes Data storage
AMD 4800 Dual processor
Sound Card - Creative Emu 1212
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks...
Greg

Hey,
I think this article will help: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93610
Ive also seen similar issues when the Windows sound playback device is set to an application. The article above shows you howto get to Sounds and Audio Devices, you can change the sound playback device from the audio tab.

  • Recording Produces Sped Up Garbled Sound

(Recording Produces Sped Up Garbled Soundp Hi folks,
I have a X-Fi Platinum Fataity, running on Win XP SP3.
I have been using the card without issue for a fair few months, and of late have been using it to record podcasts with an external mic and mixer. Today I tried to record - with Creative Sound Recorder - and the result was <a rel="nofollow" href="http://stainlesssteelrat.net/_What U Hear__06-0-2009_7-25-38.mp3]this (click link to download MB MP3 file)[/url]. It sounds like a partly garbled and partly sped up file to me.
I tried recording with Creative WaveStudio 7, same problem. Tried recording with Windows Sound Recorder, same problem.
I then ran Autoupdate, and updated the drivers as well as all the applications it found. Same problem.
Any ideas as to what is wrong?
    TIA

,Re: Recording Produces Sped Up Garbled Sound( Thanks for the reply.
Yep, it's in Audio Creation mode. I can't spot any relevant recording settings in the Audio Control panel, although none of these have been changed since the install. I'm 99.9% sure it isn't the microphone, as the recordings all appear slowed down, hence the playback is sped up. I don't see how the microphone itself would/could affect that. I have tested both the line in on the soundcard, and on the I/O panel. Still the same problem.
In fact if I just record the Windows environment, by playing a music track and using Smart Recorder with "What U Hear", it *still* records in a slowed down fashion, and in turn produces a sped up recording. So it cannot be related to the microphone.
Could this be a faulty soundcard?

  • Scratchy, distorted, garbled sound from MP3s files

I'm having really horrible scratchy, distorted, garbled sound from MP3 files. AAC encoded files play extremely clearly on iTunes 10.5

After reviewing all comments, it appears that this issue is squarely with the 10.5 upgrade that Apple did on I tunes. I have done all the uninstall and re-install that you can do.  Songs play fine on some, terrible on others, but yet they all will play on Windows Media Player. I can't believe it is the chipset for those that AMD processors, because everything was fine on the 10.4.  So,  Apple please fix this or offer us a way to uninstall from the 10.5 to the 10.4 where everything should be okay.   Awaiting your reply with thousands of others!

  • Question Random Distorted / Garbled Sound In Windows XP Home

I have laptop Pavilion dv5282ea and sometimes sound gets garbled / distorted. Listen to this. Note that this happens only when music/video is playing, i mean only when there should be any sound coming off. I had this problem in the beginning when i purchased laptop, but as a few years passed by, problem disappeared. 2 weeks ago i formatted and reinstalled Windows XP and now this problem came up again. Should i put headphones on, or listen through built-in speakers, problem is still there which should indicate that the problem is with sound card or drivers. When i am watching online video, the problem happens, but i have noticed that if i start playing music in Winamp, the problem disappears or sometimes gets gets garbled, until i stop music from playing. I often heard this garbled sound after resuming from standby.
My audio driver version is 3.23.0.0. I installed latest driver 3.23.0.0 A but nothing changed and it still shows old driver.
What should i do to fix this problem?

Can you please download the latest BIOS update for your notebook and also update Microsoft Universal Audio Architecture (UAA) Bus Driver for High Definition Audio (sp32646). I would also recommend you to update the Intel Chipset Installation Utility for ICH7 and this should resolve your issue.

  • Reports of 17.0.0.169 with garbled sound and vid on rtmp streaming w/jwplayer?

    Hello Adobe,
I run a website that uses live streaming rtmp to the jwplayer6 video player.  Starting today, some viewers who downloaded Adobe Flash player 17.0.0.169 are getting very garbled sound and video that speeds up/slows down.  This is happening on a number of users on various platforms: Win 7, Win 8.1, Linux and various browsers; Firefox, Safari, Opera, and IE (reported so far).  Some folks are reporting it happens only on Firefox and not Chrome.  Thoughts?  How to proceed?  We are telling our users, unfortunately, uninstall the latest version of Flash and rollback.

    Hi Jeromie,
I'm and end user getting disastrous garbling and speeding via Ustream Streams. One broadcaster I watch was able to almost elimate the issue by reducing the quality of the outgoing content I believe.  It would be beneficial if you contacted Ustream yourself so they can notify their subscribers of a work around.

    Hi Simon,
I'm really sorry to hear that your event may be impacted.  I'd highly recommend that you reach out to Ustream.  We would be more than happy to share technical details with them on how to configure the streams to work around the issue.  We will have a public beta available for download before your event at http://www.adobe.com/go/flashplayerbeta/, but realize that this is a sub-optimal solution.
Ustream employees can send me a private message via the forums (just click my name), and I'll be more than happy to put them in contact with an engineer that can offer guidance.
    Thanks,

  • Flash Player 11.7 Sound Playback Bug

We've received reports that sound is cutting off from both video and audio content with some Flash content using Flash Player 11.7.700.169 (and 11.7.700.179).  I apologize to those effected by this bug.  We've been able to reproduce the issue internally and are currently investigating the cause and possible fixes and workarounds.  If you haven't already, please take a minute and let us know how this issue impacts you by leaving a short comment (or vote) on this bug report:
    https://bugbase.adobe.com/index.cfm?event=bug&id=3539635
Your feedback is important to us and we will continue to update the bug report as new information becomes available.
For those looking for an immediate fix, you can either update to our latest beta (4/30/2013 - Flash Player 11.7.700.197 Beta) or you can downgrading Flash Player to our latest 10.3 release.  The latest 10.3.183.75 build contains all of the recent security updates and should provide a stable platform for both audio and video.  Please see these two faqs for details.
How do I revert to a previous version of Flash Player?
Where can I find direct downloads of Flash Player 10.3 for Windows or Macintosh?
In addition, Google Chrome users will need to switch to the system version of Flash Player (NPAPI version) after installing the 10.3 release:
    http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/enable-system-flash-player-goog le-chrome.html
The next official update, currently scheduled for release in mid May, will resolve this bug.

Hey Chris, thanks for all the keeping up with us and stuff.  I have an issue and i'm not sure if this was already discussed (if so sorry). Windows 8 IE 10 I'm getting an error tying to downgrade my customers to the beta.  The message i'm getting is
    The installation encountered errors:
Your Microsoft Explorer browser includes the latest version on the Adobe Flash Player built-in. Windows Update will inform you when new versions of Flash Player are available.
I have done my research and I cannot find how to fix this issue.  I have ran the uninstaller multiple times and restarted blah blah all the goodies.  It will not let me install the beta.
Please help..... any idea how to get beta running on hundreds of my customers machines?
The beta work's great it seems like and I wouldn't mind installing the beta on all their machines till the final release (which seems like a few weeks away)
    Thanks again, Tim

  • Sound playback bug since 1.0.2

Thought this was an isolated glitch but now it's affecting other phone functions including voicemail. I noticed it when I was playing an podcast episode then selected another podcast, which began to play except now the sound is sped up to where a normal voice sounds like a chipmunk! Happened again when trying to playback other podcasts and stopped after a while. Today I played back an item from my visual voicemail list and all the messages were sped up also!

The audiobook playback speed setting does not affect podcasts, nor does it affect Visual Voicemail playback.
The original poster should try resetting his iPhone by holding down the Home and Sleep/Wake buttons. If this does not fix the issue, he may want to consider doing a restore in iTunes or contacting Apple technical support (either at the Apple store or at 1-800-MY-iPHONE).

  • Iphone 5 / iOS 6.0 bug: Video sound no longer playing in lock screen

    Hi,
With my iPhone 4 I was able to listen so the sound of a video, even if I went to the lock screen. With my iPhone 5 and iOS 6.0 this is no longer possible. When I start e.g., a music video in the video app and
then go to the lock screen, the video an sounds stops. A double click on the home button shows the play button, but if pressed, the sound of the video won't play. If I press the forward / rewind button, a track of the music player will start to play. With previous versions listening to videos was possible while being on the lock screen / screen was turned off. Is there a fix for this bug? Has anyone the same problems? Would be great to listen to my music videos again...
    Bye
    Chris

I'm having the same problem. Incredibly frustrating as this was a major use of the iphone when I had IOS5.
    Apple, please fix this!

  • S10, Windows Live Messenger & garbled sound

My little S10 doesn't seem to have any problems with sounds at all - at least during more normal use.  However, when using Live Messenger, the voice sound that is coming out of the speakers is all horribly garbled and isn't really recognizable.  My other machines that are "talking" to it don't have any problems at all.  Video playback is fine and smooth.  I have fiddled with the Realtek HD settings on the Control Panel and nothings seems to effect it.
Using a Bluetooth seems to correct it though.  The driver set that was shipped with the machine is R2.07 even though the most recent drivers at support are R2.05.  I would really like to get this working correctly.
    Any ideas?

I have both the Optia and Optia pro. Tested both in XP and Vista, on a clean o/s install with new drivers. The Optia pro cannot successfully use the Exposure setting without a massive framerate drop, which in effect makes the camera pretty much useless on both XP and Vista. No published articles with a resolution so my guess is it was shipped in a non-working state. I'll be keeping my Optia as it's fine, but I'm returning the Optia Pro to the store today.

  • Solution: iTunes "Analyzing Gapless Playback" Bug Fix

I have seen many complaints of a problem that has become somewhat commonplace in iTunes. I work for a major Technical Support company and get customer complaints about this often. It is frustrating because I generally am good at solving issues. Now I have a solution and I wish to share it with everyone.
    The Problem
The issue is whenever you open iTunes it begins "Analyzing Gapless Playback" for a certain number of songs. In my case I have discovered that once this issue begins happening...every single song you add to iTunes thereafter will be added to the list of songs that need to be analyzed. I had this issue in Lion and Mountain Lion. But I have heard lots of people have the same issue with previous versions of OS X.
    The Cause (hypothisis)
My hypothesis is that the problem is that iTunes loses the ability to physically write the ID3 tag information. When you make changes to files the changes are saved in your iTunes library files but nowhere else. Because iTunes detects the ID3 tags untouched when it opens it assumes that they have not yet been checked for gapless playback thus performs the check. The problem lies in permissions. Some change you make (OS Upgrade, Reinstall, etc) cause the permissions in the folder to not allow iTunes to write the ID3 tags. I have tried everything I could think of to fix this and was unable to do so. I tried using MP3 repair programs (MP3 Scan & Repair.app)
    The Solution
I have tried a lot of different things to fix this and the only thing I figured out is kind of a "catch all" but it works none the less. I want to preface this with saying this is kind of an extreme pain the neck thing to do but it fixed my issue. In my iTunes preferences I have enabled Keep iTunes Media Folder Organized and Copy Files to iTunes Media Folder. This is how I have always kept my iTunes. These instructions are assuming that is also what you are doing.
    Quit iTunes
    Navigate to your Music Folder
Move all of the highlighted items in the photo below to a new folder on your desktop.
       4. Now launch iTunes. When it opens it will appear like the first time you opened iTunes because (duh) there is no media in it yet.
        5. Go into Preferences (advanced) and make sure your iTunes Media Folder is set correctly.
       6. Make sure that iTunes Match is turned off for now.
       7. Click File>Add to Library and then choose your iTunes Media Folder. You will then wait for a long time (most likely) while your media is rescanned.
    The Fallout
At this point (if you organize your iTunes with precision like I do) you are going to find your iTunes Library with a little bit of disorganization (depending on how long the issue had been going on). Because iTunes had not been able to write to your ID3 tags many corrections you may have made over the past couple of months (however long the issue had been going on) will not be in effect. For me it wasn't so bad. I had about 200 songs & books that I needed to fix. Audiobooks seem to be more of a problem for me.
So go through and get your iTunes Library back to the way you like it. Then turn on iTunes Match (if you have it). The reason we had it off was to make sure that your match data didn't get replaced with your iTunes Library mistakes not re-fixed.
I have restarted my Mac many times and it has been about a day since I did this and everything appears to be working correctly.
    Prevention
I wish I had something to write in this area but I have no clue how to prevent this from happening again. If I figure out a way I will be sure to edit this article. I am open for suggestions!

Apple should provide a way to disable Gapless Playback.
For Albums I guess checking is not so bad, though I prefer GP only to work when asked.
However, there is a major bug.
I record my own music which results in a single file with no Tags or references of any kind.
When I one of these files to "Add to iTunes Library" I get the spinning wheel while iTunes
tries to figure out if it is Gapless. This usually freezes up iTunes for about 15 minutes.
Please Apple. Just give us a way to turn off Gapless Playback.
I have my iTunes library on an external RAID drive, using a MacBook Pro.

  • Final Cut Pro X & ProRes Major Funny BUG - Pertains to AE also !!!

This must be the weirdest BUG I have ever experienced... And the most difficult to find. I found it via coincidence ;-)
I playback and use ProRes 4444 inside of FCPx. And generally there is NO problem doing so. Until yesterday...
In After Effects I converted a bunch of H.264 Canon 5DMKii movies, after denoising them, to ProRes4444.
I imported the movies into Final Cut X and immediately noticed that they were jerky in playback. So I loaded the original files and wanted to see whether they were jerky as well. They were not... Here comes the funny part...
The Original H.264 had AUDIO on them the ProRes version I had stripped the audio from as I did not need it. To better compare the two files (Don't know why I did it but I did) in the timeline I just copied the audio from H.264 file over underneath the ProRes4444-jerky file. Then I compared again. This time the ProRes was playing smooth as silk. I could NOT believe my eyes. I was cursing at the Mac but after smoking a cigarette and contemplating, I went back an deleted the audio from underneath the Prores 4444 file. Back to jerky. I put the audio back - jerkiness GONE...
So I did some more testing...
I took a completely different clip and imported that into After Effects.
I did the same denoising to it and exported TWO versions to PRORES 4444.
1 with Audio and 1 without it...
Then imported the two into FCPx...
We are talking TWO identical files here expect one has audio to it.
The one with audio played back silky while the one without was jerky.
I copied the audio (any audio will do) underneath the jerky one and it stopped jerking around.
I opened the two test files in QuickTime 7 and 10 and NONE of them were Jerky... This issue seems to pertain to FCPx only....
So if any of you export from AE to ProRes4444 and the guy on the FCPx station gets agitated because of the jerkiness,
before you blame adobe (like I did) tell him to just copy some sound underneath the sound-less video clip. That will take care of the problem,
untill Apple fixes the problem ;-)

Glad you found a solution, AtonMusic! Did you bring the issue up to Apple?

  • Major Graphic BUG???

FCP6/HDV appears to have the same Bug that FCP5 had for a while. Imported Photoshop files (any still format) show up looking like they are single fields instead of frames. In other words, every other scan line of pixels is not showing.
Playback Quality changes don't help. And the truly weird thing is that the same file looks perfectly fine in the Viewer, but not in Canvas.
    Rendering doesn't help.
Native Photoshop, JPEG, TIFF--all look horrid. Files that played last week just fine in PS 5.x now look like a mistake.
FCP5 had this bug--similar, but not exactly the same behavior--when it was brand new, and it took Apple months to realize it and fix the mother. In FCP6 the major difference is that the still image looks horrible as soon as it is inserted in the timeline. FCP5 looked fine in the timeline in Canvas, but lost integrity when rendered or viewed running.
All effects, titles, matte painting FX, still overlays, still insertions are affected.
Please, somebody, tell me there's a switch somewhere that fixes this?
    -iNova
    Dual 2.5GHz G5   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

While I'm not monitoring on an external monitor, the rendered file plays back with a perfectly clear background HD image and a flawed title overlay, so it's not the reviewing apparatus or conditions. Digital Cinema review shows the effect, too. Exported QT files show it, too.
What's significant about RT is that at High, the background is fine and the overlay still is corrupted, appearing to be 1/2 vertical resolution while maintaining full horizontal res. At Medium, being 2 x 2 pixels per detail, both clean background and overlay still look the same. At 50% scale Canvas viewing they look the same, too, which is to be expected. I'm not talking about field artifacts in motion. Those are easy to see on the computer monitor.
In the Viewer window, enlarged right next to the Canvas window, and both at 100%, pixel-direct viewing, the Canvas image is corrupt and the Viewer image of the same file, thrown into the View window from the timeline, looks 100% quality.
Since the Viewer window can portray the still bitmap image while looking perfect, and can portray moving footage perfectly, the issue seems to be in something that the Canvas window's handling routines are doing with the JPEG and .psd files. Since it does the same flaw with TIFF files, it seems logical to assume that it's not the incoming format, rather it's something in the way the timeline/Canvas handles bitmaps.
Are you seeing stills pixel perfect? Scale a 6MP digital image down to 1920 x 1080 and JPEG it, importing it into FCP6. Then view that in Viewer and Canvas at 100% scale after you drop it into the timeline.
One extra oddity; PS files import into the Browser as .psd format (1440 x 1080= exact resolution) self-contained sequences.
That's the way they show up normally--and must, if they had layers. If you double click on the source .psd file, opening it as a sequence, it shows up in its own timeline, and in the Canvas without the mangled look. It looks right.
But drop that source file into another timeline--the way you must to use it in an edit--and the corrupt appearance returns.
So we can add a new bit of mystery solving: It's possible for the Canvas to see a still image file with clarity--IF that file was imported as an existing sequence, the way .psd files do. But somehow still files of several formats can land in the timeline with this flaw. Making titles in Photoshop very ugly. Plus this: Do anything to the OK looking .psd image and render that--poof! The flawed appearance returns.
I'll bet Premiere doesn't make this mistake.
It's not a scaling artifact. It has the look of an image minus every other scan line, showing dramatic aliasing on shallow angle contours and loss of vertical resolution only.
    Too much head scratching.

  • K72NG-ILSR media plays too fast / garbled sound

Using both Windows Media Player and Winamp. Both video and audio playback is too fast in both programs. The video skips frames and the audio skips and sounds garbled. However, when I play sound through Windows Sound Recorder, it is OK. Playback is also OK using WinDVD player. I was directed by MSI support to download the latest group of drivers, entitled "Nvidia nForce2 System Driver" at http://www.msi.com.tw/program/support/driver/dvr/spt_dvr_list.php?part=1 . Will one of you guys with a similar setup please go to Device Manager and tell me what version of audio driver & Codec driver is the latest for the onboard sound? I'm not sure this is the problem, but it is a good place to start.
Any other suggestions would be appreciated.
    Thanks!

  • 1080p download and playback bugs in iTunes 10.6 for Windows

There seems to be some bugs in iTunes 10.6 for Windows related to 1080p video.  According to Apple, the minimum specs for viewing 1080p video on a PC is:
To play 1080p HD video on a PC, you need a 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo or faster processor, 2GB of RAM, and an Intel GMA X4500HD, ATI Radeon HD, or NVIDIA GeForce 8300 GS or better graphics processor.
My PC exceeds these specs (Intel i5-2500K 3.3GHz CPU, 8GB of RAM, AMD Radeon 7970 video card, 30" Apple Cinema Display).  The first bug appears when I go into the preferences setting and switch the download preference fom 720p to 1080p, which triggers a warning box that says:
This computer may not be able to play 1080p videos.  You can still download these videos for use on other devices.
That's odd but I press "OK" and downloaded the 1080p copy of a TV episode.  When I press play, another warning box popped up:
Video is too large.  The 1080p version of [show] is too large to play on this computer.  You can choose to play a smaller 720p version of this movie below.  This message will be dismissed in XX seconds.
The message gives you three options: PLAY SMALLER VERSION / OK / CANCEL.  If I select OK or simply let the timer run down, the 1080p video starts playing without any problems.  Anyone else seeing this?

Oh that clarifies things, I see what you mean.  The error message still confuses me because even your smaller Acer monitor matches the pixel resolution of the 1080p video - the video doesn't exceed the monitor's pixel ratio so it's not technically "too large" as the error message says.  The 1080p video should fill your Acer monitor edge to edge while leaving black borders on the top and bottom of your Samsung.  I think this is clearly a bug in iTunes.
I know what you mean about the movie opening up so that a portion of the image is off the screen but that sounds like an issue related to the default position of the window when you start a video.  The default position is such that a smaller size like the SD copy probably isn't cut off but that a larger video does get chopped until you change where videos open by default.  I can change the position simply closing the video while it's playing.  iTunes remembers the place on the screen where I closed the video and opens all videos at the spot afterwards.  Does that not work for you?
