Vacation messages with iMS 5.2?

How long does it take the server to update when a user sets a vacation message? I've had users set them up and nothing happens for hours it seems. I run a dirsync and still nothing happens. Then, magically, after a few hours, the vacation message will start to work. What gives?

iMS will fix headers in messages that it considers to be non-compliant and in some cases will insert another header letting you know it did that. Try sending a message from the command line and do not put in a date, then pop the message down, you'll see an example of iMS adding a date header.
What software is running on "romulus.imaginemedia.com"?

  • Out of office autoreply (vacation message) with OS X Mail Server?

    Hello everybody,
    I'm using OS X SL with Mail Services active.
    Clients (LAN) are using iMacs (7 users) and Mail.app.
    The users now want to be able to activate their "vacation messages", and what I found is this:
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/10687725
    I followed that thread but the only missing part is: when I log in with a user, I cannot click "mail" in the upper menu bar (it's greyed out). Where should I look for that to be enabled?
    Thanks in advance,
    F.

    Sounds to me like you're using SSL for your Mail server? That's what we do. So when you log in to the web interface you have to log in w/ httpS://. Then the link should be active.

  • IMS 5.2 Vacation messages don't work

    User vacation messages are not working. When users set up a vacation message with delegated administrator, it appears to take okay, but is never activated.

    I can't look at the buglist right now for 5.2 but I seem to recall something about vacation messages, but then again I could be wrong.
    I'd start with contacting TS and getting the lastest hotfix bundle and looking over the BUGLIST that is distributed with the bundle.
    When you view the user object using ldapsearch does the vacation information show dates that are correct?

    Are you able to update the vacation message for the problem user using the Messenger Express interface instead - this will help to isolate the potential cause?
    -Can't access messenger express interface
    Do you see an errors in the webserver error logs when you attempt to save the preference, or if you have UWC logging enabled, in the uwc.log file?
    -There is no error messages in webserver error log, in uwc.log there are some messages but I do not think it helps.

  • Unable to read messages - rookie with iMS 5.2

    Hi,
    I suppose this forum is from the iPlanet Messaging server, my excuses in advance if this matter is not properly posted.
    I'm trying to install an iPlanet Mesaging Server v5.2, Directory Server 4.16 coming with the suite the customer bought in 2003. The server was okay but after a crash I had to reinstall the server, inherited from another person who left so, I'm a rookie with iMS but not with Solaris and SIMS 4.0.
    I have followed all the procedures to install the server. Have created an user within the console administration. The user is recognized thanks to imsimta dirsync -F. I can login via HTTP and send messages outside.
    My drama is, after days of research through the docs, that I can't read incoming mail. As a matter of fact the server receives email from outside seen snooping the network connections but nothing shows un into the INBOX, neither HTTP nor POP3 client.
    There's not a clear evidence is the iDA (dlegated admin) is compulsory to properly manage users and groups, i did not install it, and did not install the Enterprise Server v.6.0 as well.
    It is not clear if the ims_dssetup.pl needs to be run, there's an indication stating that if installing the directory server shipped on the same package as the mail server. I have run it as well but it looks like the DS schema was already up-to-date.
    The SENT messages are properly shown so, I guess the store is okay but, why I'm not able to read the messages in the INBOX, they don't even show up by using mboxutil at all ("no new messages in server").
    What am I doing wrong? any help would be highly appreciated.
    Thanks a lot in advance.
    Fabin R. Breschi

    Please do remember, iMS 5.2 is two years old. We do not re-do a package, even two years later.
    The download of iMS 5.2 continues to contain Directory 4.16, even though DS 4.16 is End Of Life. We encourage installatin of a current Directory Server rather than the one packaged with the download, and you would have seen that recommendation even as you performed that installation.
    The release notes I'm referring to are the original 5.2 release notes. These were repeated from the 5.0 and 5.1 release notes, too.
    you can still download the p2 patch from:
    http://www.sun.com/download/products.xml?id=411bb50d
    this is a patch, not a full release. Install your 5.2 bits, and then apply the patch.
    Something else you may need to do. The Admin Guide, Appendix B talks about "direct ldap". We strongly recommend following those directions, even before starting the server. The old method for accessing the Directory data, "dirsync" will not be fixed, and does exhibit problems.
    There are only a "readme" and a "buglist" associated with the p2, and that's included with the download itself.

  • Vacation message only working on shortname

    We have a 10.6.4 Snow Leopard Server setup and we can setup the Vacation message via the vacation message rules and all works well but it only seems to work when someone sends an email to the users shortname email address e.g. [email protected] and not to any of their aliases like [email protected] Aliasing is working fine for receiving emails on joe, joe.bloggs or joe_bloggs etc.
    Anyone else have the same problem or a fix?

    I added the extra identity but it still is not giving the vacation message on the alias just on the original shortname. It is also a bit hard to test, as obviously it only sends one vacation message out per day as a response for a particular sender but i am always trying on the alias email address first and then as a last resort just checking with the shortname email address. I am able to send test email from various different email address's so it does give me a few options for testing.

  • Sun Java Outlook Connector with IMS 5.2/Calendar 6.0

    Is anyone using this? I understand using Outlook with an Exchange Server there was an option under tools to setup an "out of office" message. Does anyone know if this functionality exists within Outlook using IMS5.2, or do we have to have folks go to the web client in order to setup vacation messages.

    I've found the same iisues withthe IMAP folders disappearing, I used the following "trick" to get some sort of stability:
    1. Shutdown Outlook 2003
    2. Go to the "mail" control panel
    3. Chose appropriate profile if necessary
    4. Select E-mail Accounts
    5. Add an IMAP account with the exact same settings as the IMAP configuration setup by the Connector
    6. Delete the "Sun ONE SMTP" account (doesn't work so why not.)
    7. Save and Exit
    This configuration appears to be stable and still uses the back end Sun Messaging and Calendar servers. I've only done a few simple test, so use at your own risk.
    Now if I could only get this stuff to work with either iCal or Entourage's Calendar on a Macintosh.

  • Vacation Message Only Working in Parts

    Hi,
    I am trying to get a vacation auto-repsonder filter working on the new 10.7.1 server webmail.  I've setup two actions.  One sends a copy of the recived email to another account, the second action replys to the sender with an out of office message.
    The first action works, the second does nothing.  Oddly it did work intiially as I have some messages in my email account from the server for the account in question.  It doesn't work now though.
    I have tried the grey-listing fix but that didn't appear to effect it.
    Any ideas?
    Francis.

  • Vacation messages / server side mail rules

    With WebMail depreciated in OS X Server, is there a recommended (incorporated) way for users to configure vacation messages and other server side rules?

    The seive rules are referenced by the imap server on OS X and it is responsible for the mail sort. The old webmail (SquirrelMail) and the newer webmail on Lion (Roundcube) were only writing the rules that the sieve engine of the server were reading.  In other words, the webmail doesn't handle the sorting of the incoming messages, its built in filter settings write the rules that the server uses to sort them.
    In Roundcube, that is the managesieve plugin. By default, the rules get saved in /Library/Server/Mail/Data/rules/[user UniqueID]/dovecot.sieve with the new Roundcube and older rules are default.sieve. Dovecot seems to look for one or the other and uses it.
    So, and I still have to read (and if anyone can answer!) since I've not looked at this since 10.8 server has first come out:  They moved the mailstor moved in ML, but does Dovecot still have sieve rules ENABLED or does that require a .conf change?
    To answer your configuration question:
    if you're comfortable with editing a text file, Roundrube is VERY simple to configure in my opinion. Everything is well commented in the settings files. Almost all of the settings are having it connect to your IMAP and SMTP server, same as an email client's settings.  And that's it, you don't need to compile anything to use it.
    You will need to setup MySQL or ProtegeSQL with it, but they have scripts that setup the tables for you, again, pretty simple.  PERSONALLY, I chose to install MySQL (they have a Mac .pkg install and a System Preference Pane for it).  I did not want to use the ProtegeSQL Apple supplies with OS X because we've all learned this lesson: who knows when they'll abandon THAT and leave us all scrambling for a solution again.
    This way, my SQL install is indepenent, ready for the next OS upgrade without wondering if Apple will take it away, or even transportable to another platform.

  • Vacation Messages Don't Work After Changing Password

    I have a Snow Leopard Server (10.6.2) setup and the vacation message feature works fine as long as the user hasn't changed their password. Once they have changed their password then the feature doesn't work. You can set it up but it doesn't work, when you send an email to the user with the message set the email sends but you don't get the vacation message.
    I have also noticed that when you try and load the server side mail rules for a user that has changed their password you get an error (from memory it's something about can't get info from server).
    Does anyone know why this might happen.
    Thanks

    There is a one-response-per-day limit imposed by mailsieve and dovecot. Once a vacation response has been sent to any address, it'll throttle any future responses for 24 hours to the same address.
    Once you change the password, are you either using the same address to send e-mail as before? Have you tried triggering the vacation notice from a different sender address?
    A.

  • Vacation Message using old/incorrect data

    I have a mail server that refuses to accept a new vacation message. The problem is worse than that because it is sending out a vacation message from over a year ago that had been disabled, even though it shows as disabled in the web interface.
    Here is what I tried to do to clear things up.
    * Turn off email and web server.
    * Remove all scripts from /var/spool/imap/dovecot/sieve-scripts/
    * Remove all scripts and vacationIndex.db from /Library/Emailrules/
    * Turn on email and web server.
    When I return to the user's vacationnotice wiki page it shows the old outgoing email rule. I cannot find where this old rule is stored. When I apply the new rule when a user sends a message to the account they initially receive two vacation replys, the correct one and the 'old' incorrect one as well. Subsequent test messages get a reply of the 'old' message repeatedly, while the new one is properly 'muted' until the following day.
    Does anyone know what I'm missing and how to find this zombie message?
    Thanks in advance.

    Nothing?
    These forums used to be pretty active with a few experts chiming in, but it seems like the enthusiastic pros have left the scene.
    Outside of Apple's mailing lists what forums are active for pro OS X Server admins? Seems like afp548 is dead, too.

  • Vacation Messages Dead

    Well, this is pretty awesome. I cannot tell you how happy I am that what is supposedly a minor upgrade has managed to break so many things on the one server I've upgraded so far. What's even better is that there seem to be more questions than people capable of answering them. I think I've had exactly zero responses to every thread I've started or joined in about SLS so far... YESSS!!!
    So, here's my next (probably unanswered) question: Why in the world will my vacation notices not work?? I got them to work briefly for my own user account, but that was short-lived. After that one time, I could no longer update the message or dates successfully. I'd save the changes in the Wonderful World of Wiki, but nothing would actually change in the auto-replies. What's more, any other users I try to activate the service on don't work at all. The logs show the "vacation notice as configured for xxx", but no auto-replies are generated. I've tried using the FQDN, 127.0.0.1, and localhost under SA -> Web -> Wiki -> External Web Services, to no avail.
    My server is updated to v10.6.2, and is an upgrade install from v10.5.8. I had previously set up avelsieve to enable the vacation "filter" in SquirrelMail. No doubt these factors make my arrangement a doomed one, and I will have to resort to reinstalling and reentering all my data by hand using 1s and 0s on a punchcard. Can anyone help? Or how 'bout a "Yeah, this ***** for me, too"?
    Aggravated,
    Fred

    Looks like i creates the db, configures them and then gets confused so unconfigures them.

    help me, please .... oh mama.

    Got patch number 23, install it, insert iscBeginYear propertise, restart Application Server, and
    Pray. Try the Vacation Message .... and ... still ... no change ... limited to 2006 shrugh
    OK ... I'm surrounded by client. No much time ... the last change is hard-coding ... for a moments ...
    to cold-down the situation.
    Here is what I change in the UWC file
    + edit mailPreferencesVacation.jsp (located at /var/opt/SUNWuwc/uwc/common)
    + search for line "jato:combobox name="startYear" ... blah ... blah .. blah
    uncomment this line so it's look like
             <!-- REMARK BY KASSLE
               <jato:combobox name="endYear" onChange="setDirtyCache()" />
             -->+ Add texts after the line above
             <!-- ADD BY KASSLE -->
             <select name="MailPreferencesVacation.startYear" onChange="setDirtyCache()">
              <option value="2000">2000</option>
              <option value="2001">2001</option>
              <option value="2002">2002</option>
              <option value="2003">2003</option>
              <option value="2004">2004</option>
              <option value="2005">2005</option>
              <option value="2006">2006</option>
              <option value="2007">2007</option>
              <option value="2008">2008</option>
              <option value="2009">2009</option>
              <option value="2010">2010</option>
             </select>
             <!-- ADD BY KASSLE -->+ Next, look for text "jato:combobox name="endYear" ... blah blah blah
    Do the same like the startYear, so the result is like this:
             <!-- REMARK BY KASSLE
               <jato:combobox name="endYear" onChange="setDirtyCache()" />
             -->
             <!-- ADD BY KASSLE -->
             <select name="MailPreferencesVacation.endYear" onChange="setDirtyCache()">
              <option value="2000">2000</option>
              <option value="2001">2001</option>
              <option value="2002">2002</option>
              <option value="2003">2003</option>
              <option value="2004">2004</option>
              <option value="2005">2005</option>
              <option value="2006">2006</option>
              <option value="2007">2007</option>
              <option value="2008">2008</option>
              <option value="2009">2009</option>
              <option value="2010">2010</option>
             </select>
             <!-- ADD BY KASSLE -->This solution is work, but not as good as if have the newest patch.
