Valet M10 and Realtek RTL8188CU

I tried connecting a wireless-N (RTL8188CU chipset) with Valet M10.  I'm sure the setting is correct, but 90% of time I'm not able to connect them.  The other 10% of time it works, but painfully slow.  Is there any known issue between these devices?

As far as your is could you inform me how did you install the Router i.e with the help of the Cisco Connect Software that came with the CD or you did manual configuration ? If you did it with the Cisco Connect Software then open Cisco Connect Software on which you have installed and follow the steps:
# After opening the Cisco Connect Software you will be able to see 4 window pane... So click on Router Settings....
# Then click on Advanced settings... It will open the M10 setup page....
# Go to Wireless Tab and change the Channel Width to 20MHz and Channel to 6, 9 and 11...
Secondly update the latest drivers of the Realtek RTL8188CU and disable the utility of the Adapter.... If you did it manual configuration then just open up the Router setup page and do the same settings as above...
Then check the connectivity......

  • Valet M10 drops internet connection and reboots intermittengly

I have the Valet M10 wireless router.  In the last few days I have noticed that I keep loosing my internet connection.  There appears no issue with my Time warner ISP modem.  But I did notice that when my internet connection was lost that all the lights were out on my router.  Then after a short while it appeared the router was rebooting itself as all the lights started to blink and after a minute or so my internet connection was back.   Unfortunatel this process continues several times a day and sometimes a few times withint an hour or two.  Has anyone run into this type of situation and any ideas on how to rectify.
    I have M10 version 1--   firmware 2.0.03 build 4   software 1.4.11260.0

Hi Carl43m. If the internet connection continues to drop when connected directly to the modem, that will be your queue to contact your ISP. However, I agree with FurryNutz that if it is only your wireless connection that has been affected, we can say that this might be due to wireless interference.
You can adjust the wireless channel on the M10’s web- based setup page. In case you are using the Cisco Connect software, you may try to:
Go to Valet settings > Advanced Settings
Take note of the username and password.
Click OK and wait for the setup page to stop loading.
    Click Wireless and select Manual.
Change the channel to 1, 6 or 11 and save the changes.
To manually access the setup page, log on to http://192.168.1.1and enter the router’s administrative password and username. The default password is admin and leave the username blank or use the one that you set when you initially set the router up. Then, move on to steps 4 and 5.

  • Possible to configure Valet M10 as repeater?

I have a Linksys E2000 (Cisco 44041?) as my sole wireless access point in my house.  I am needing to extend the range/strengthen the signal to my husband's office in the basement.
I do not want to spend $90 on a repeater.
I know some wireless routers can be configured to act as a repeater and am capable and willing to do the setup myself.
Is this Valet M10 capable of this configuration?
Does it have a repeater mode already programmed in, just needing activation/setup?
    Thanks!

Well M10 router cannot be used as repeater mode... But it can be used as wireless switch means it will always be connect with the Router E2000 via ethernet cable.... It cannot be used as wireless...

  • Cisco Valet M10 Wireless channel selection question

    hello
Not sure if anyone knows or not, but I'm wondering how the option under the router wireless confirguration page, channel selection operates?
My Valet m10 (firmware: 2.0.03) offers an option to either manually set the wireless channel or have it set to 'Automatic' and I was wondering that when the option is set to 'Auto' how often does the router change channels.
Does it change only after being restarted?
Or does it change periodically all on it's own?
    thanks
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

How auto channel is supposed to work is that the router does a wireless survey and figures out which channel is best at the current time to lower signal interference between channels.
On some routers this feature doesn't work well and setting the channel manually is best.

  • Valet M10 disconnects modem

I have a DLink DCM-202 cable modem (isp is Comcast) connected to my Valet M10. Once or twice a day the modem will drop connection. It will eventually re-establish connection but the random drops are annoying. If I replace the M10 with my old Linksys WRT54G router the modem never drops a connection and is stable.
Any idea why this is happening?

Bypass the router and connect the computer directly to the cable modem.
Observer the Internet connection and make sure that the Internet is not dropping through the modem.
if the modem is working fine then you can try to reset the M10 router and reconfigure it.
Connect the modem to the Internet port and computer to Ethernet port 1 on the router. Press and hold the reset button on the router for 30 seconds. Release the reset button and wait for 30 seconds. Power cycle the router and reconfigure it manually.
Follow this link to configure the router with Cable Internet service.
Also change the MTU size to 1365.

  • Valet M10 router (need help)

I have Hughes Net satellite for my computer.  I purchased Valet M10 wireless router to connect the computer up-stairs.
No instructions.  What hooks up where.  Any help would be great.  Thanks

How many wired/wireless computers do you have?
Connect Modem to the Internet port of the router and connect computer to the Ethernet port of the router.
Run the Cisco connect software using the USB Stick that comes with Valet M10 Router.
Once the Cisco connect installed successfully, try to connect to the network on other computers/devices.

  • Valet M10 not working

i cant connect to the internet through my valet m10 router. but when i plug my ethernet cable from the modem to  my desk top or lap top i get internet just fine...ive tried unplugging and re plugging everything in, ive tried updating the firmware (even though i already did that back in jan), but i it wont update cause i cant get internet through the router. ive tried uninstalling and reinstalling the device...and nothing..please help....sometimes there is a solid orange light that appears where the refresh button(the button at the bottom middle of the router) is on the router. What does this mean? and what can i do? thank you

Who is your Internet service provider?
I think you can try to reconfigure the router manually.
Connect the modem to the Internet port and computer to the Ethernet port on the router. Press and hold the reset button on the router for 30 seconds. Release the reset button and wait for 30 seconds. Power cycle the router and try to reconfigure it manually.

Look, I've got a Valet M10 wireless router and accidentally the Easy Setup Key was formatted. I have one of these encryption protection systems for USB  in my laptop and it ruined the key. So, I would like to know how can I set up my wireless network by hand.

Hello , i got a problem with my VALET M10 , I connect power, the power led is OFF while , the internet led is ON and the 4 lan leds are also ON. The wifi led is OFF. can some1 tell me what can i do ?

Hi. It can be a problem with the firmware. Reset the router first and reconfigure it then upgrade the firmware. Here are some articles that may help:

If the router will still display incorrect LED lights after all the reset and reconfigure and firmware upgrade, most probably the router is already defective and you may need to check the store's warranty guidelines.

  • Valet M10 disconnect power - turn off

I have a Valet M10 Wireless Router. My wiring is Cable to a Modem (a Scientific Atlanta from Time Warner/Roadruner), then USB cable to the Valet M10 Internet connection, and from there USB cable from the Ethernet connection #1 to a desktop PC running windows XP... I was wondering:
1- If I unplug the power (12V DC) from the Valet, I figure that would disable my WiFi?
2- Would that also disconnect my PC, or would I still be able to access the web on the desktop while still wired through the Valet, while the Valet is unpowered?
3- Does the valet have a role in my IP address???
    Thanks!

The Valet M10 is only capable of Ethernet connection. Any USB connection from the modem will not work since the router itself doesn’t have a USB port. You will have to utilize an Ethernet connection from the cable modem going to the internet port of the router and another Ethernet cable from any of the Ethernet ports on the router to a computer. If you unplug the power from the router, you will not be able to connect wirelessly since it’s the router who’s broadcasting the wireless signal. You won’t be able to connect to the internet as well on the computer wired to the router. The valet has its DHCP server that would allocate IP addresses to each device that will connect to it. • Valet M10 no longer works just flashes

    Hello,
My Valet M10 has worked fine with no problems for about a year now.  I needed to move it from one place to the next and I had it unplugged for about 10-15 mins.  When I turn in on the numbers 1-4 flash as well as the middle icon (it looks like a planet to me.)  Does anyone have suggestions as to what the problem is and how I can fix it?
    Thanks!
    Solved!

So do the light flashes all together on the Router? Let me know the IP address on the computer connected to Ethernet ports? Here are the steps to check the IP address.
You can check the IP address in the following manner:
    # Click on Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> Command Prompt.
    # A black pop up box should come up, type: "ipconfig /all" …
There check the IP address and Default Gateway under LAN….
Try to change power socket and then check the status of the lights on the router.

  • Connecting valet m10

Hi all, I have a valet m10 that I cannot seem to get to work. I have just downloaded Windows 8. I have looked in the FAQ section to no avail. Should I just use the Windows 7 setup instructions. Thanks Cliff
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Windows 7 and windows 8 are using the same platform. If you’re going to use the windows 7 setup wizard for M10 it should go through the setup. If ever you will get an error message, there’s still the option to set it up manually. For manually setting up your router, you may refer to these links: Setting up a Linksys router with Cable Internet service & Setting up a Linksys router for DSL Internet connection.

    Hi,
does anyone use wifi card: Intel Wireless WiFi Link 5100

Because I'd like to buy Asus X57VN:

Realtek RTL8168C/8111C Family PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet NIC , Intel Wireless WiFi Link 5100 , Bluetooth
And I want to know is some issue with hardware described above especially sound, wifi and grafics.
Previously I've had intel wifi 4965 and realtek ALC268. First use iwl4965-ucode (package) and module in kernel, second causing some issue: it was necessary to add "options snd_hda_intel model=acer" to /etc/modprobe.conf.
If anyone use that laptop or some of hardware, please describe me the details about it ( firmware, /etc/modprobe.conf or any incompatibles ).
    I'm interested about:
-Does nvidia 177.82-1 driver support Geforce 9650M GT,
-Does iwlwifi-5000-ucode firmware and kernel module enough for Intel Wireless WiFi Link 5100 to work,
-Does Realtek ALC663 work smoothly (just alsa), or any /etc/modprobe.conf or /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base  options are necessary?
    I'll be grateful.

I can answer about the wireless intel 5100 part. I've got an intel 5300 and it's working fine. The drivers are included in the 2.6.27 kernel so you just have to install the iwlwifi-5000-ucode firmware.
