Valid hostname or network address required in server description:10024

Since applying 10.8.5, the mail server won't run and this message is in the SMTP log
valid hostname or network address required in server description:10024
If I turn off filtering the existing email on the queue aren't processed because smrp-amavis is not available.
What's going wrong and how can I correct it?

OK, seems a lot of emails were left on the queue.  after much Googling, I found
postsuper -r ALL
This got things moving again and the outstanding queue cleared.

  • Change network address of acs server

    Put in a new backup ACS server and the senior guy put in temp host address. Now
    need to change the temp host address to its permanent address but need a little clarification. Do you just change it in the Windows srvr 2003 tcp/ip stack or do you need to change it also inside the CSACS app?? Can't find it in the manuals easily.

    Yes you'll need to change ACS config. Just locate the AAA Server entry for the server (in Network Config) and set the ip address to the new value.
    Or you can always just enter the server name instead in case the address changes again.
    tip: in network config you can enter DNS names instead of ip addresses for devices & aaa servers.

  • The dreaded: The network address is invalid error - SQL 2014 Cluster on Server 2012 R2

    Trying to setup an SQL 2014 Failover cluster on Windows Server 2012 R2 (two nodes). Every time I get to the assign a SQL server Network Name piece of the setup I get the following error message:
    The given network name is unusable because there was a failure trying to determine if the network name is valid for use by the clustered SQL instance due to the following error: 'The network address is invalid.'
    This happens whether I use the Advanced cluster installation procedures or the normal installation.  I have tried the following based on anything I can find on the web:
    1) Removed the clustered MTDTC role.
    2) Deleted the NIC Team (4 1GB NICs).  Deleted all but 1 NIC from the server device manager.
    3) Shutdown the second node.
    4) Lanman Server registry change posted someplace on this forum that does not stick on reboot
    None of the above, separately or in combination, has worked to allow SQL 2014 to be installed as a cluster role.
    There is no virtual machines added to the cluster.  This is not a VMware installation.  It is straight Windows 2012 R2 with a two node cluster (setup identically).
    Any ideas, suggestions, comments?
    Thanks,
    -Andrew

    Hi Alberto and Lydia,
    The cluster was verified, there are only warnings related to a lack of redundant network paths as the cluster verification doesn't recognize a team of 4 nics are redundant.  I updated AD to include the permissions detailed in the link Lydia provided,
    still no go.
    I'm not sure how to attach the installation logs to this message forum other than as text in the message, so here you go:

    OK

    Hi,
    I have the same problem. However beginning over and over again and using other ports did not solve this unfortunately.
    Here is the SQL I used to setup the mirroring.
    * Principal DB
    CREATE ENDPOINT [MirroringEndpoint]
        AUTHORIZATION [DOMAIN\administrator]
        STATE=STARTED
        AS TCP (LISTENER_PORT = 5022, LISTENER_IP = ALL)
        FOR DATA_MIRRORING (ROLE = PARTNER, AUTHENTICATION = WINDOWS NEGOTIATE
    , ENCRYPTION = REQUIRED ALGORITHM RC4)
    BACKUP DATABASE TEST
        TO DISK = 'C:\full-backup.bak'
        WITH FORMAT
    BACKUP LOG TEST
        TO DISK = 'C:\log.bak'
    ALTER DATABASE TEST SET PARTNER ='tcp://sql2.domain.local:5022';
    * Mirroring DB
    CREATE ENDPOINT [MirroringEndpoint]
        AUTHORIZATION [DOMAIN\administrator]
        STATE=STARTED
        AS TCP (LISTENER_PORT = 5022, LISTENER_IP = ALL)
        FOR DATA_MIRRORING (ROLE = PARTNER, AUTHENTICATION = WINDOWS NEGOTIATE
    , ENCRYPTION = REQUIRED ALGORITHM RC4)
    RESTORE DATABASE TEST
        FROM DISK = 'C:\full-backup.bak'
        WITH NORECOVERY
    RESTORE LOG TEST
        FROM DISK = 'C:\log.bak'
        WITH FILE=1, NORECOVERY
    ALTER DATABASE TEST SET PARTNER ='tcp://sql1.domain.local:5022';
    The last statement on the principal server gives me the following error :
    Msg 1418, Level 16, State 1, Line 1
    The server network address "tcp://sql2.domain.local:5022" can not be reached or does not exist. Check the network address name and that the ports for the local and remote endpoints are operational.
    From the principal server I'm able to ping the mirror server and can establish a telnet connection. When the statement gets executed even netstat gives me the following output :
    TCP    0.0.0.0:5022           0.0.0.0:0              LISTENING       1244  [sqlservr.exe]

  • Server Network Address on Clustered Instance

    Hi,
    I am looking to configure database mirroring and as part of this need to specify the server network address. The primary instance is on a 2 node cluster and the mirror data base is on a separate instance on a standalone server. When creating the server network
    address on the clustered instance should i specify the hostname\IP address of the SQL cluster and if so do I need to do this on both nodes in the cluster?
    Thanks

    Hello.
    You need to specify SQL server Virtual cluster name not specefic node IP or hostname.For outside application this virtual name acts as Single SQL server

    I want to be able to totally block the FaceTime functionality in my home network so my 4 kids aren't using the Facetime feature- It was easy for Skype just had to enter the work Skype on my Router Security list- and it denies access. I would like to do this at the router level for FaceTime? Only site I find in init.ess.apple.com - is this the startup site for Facetime?   Does anyone know a site I can block, hostname or IP address that the FaceTime application uses? Or which port it connects to?

    I would presume so, but it might be worth your while to experiment and play around with different combinations to see if you can block FaceTime while keeping Game Center open.  Good luck!

    capture report https://onedrive.live.com/redir?resid=AFE3D0245A92F6F8%21183

    The issue is that your machine is not being assigned an IP address / was unable to reach the DHCP server to receive one. The 169.254.x.x IP your machine is showing isn't assigned from DHCP, it's assigned by the local machine and is referred to as an APIPA
    address.
    So something is preventing your machine from reaching your DHCP server, which could one of a number of things. In the first instance I'd suggest having a look at
    http://epan36.blogspot.co.uk/2012/09/eventid-1001-dhcp-your-computer-was-not.html which lists several of things that could cause this error and things you can try in order to resolve it.
    If none of those work, can you confirm whether you have any other machines connecting via the same method on the network, which might indicate whether this is an issue at the machine end or somewhere between the machine and DHCP server?

  • How to Find the Hostname / IP Address of Reports Server From Forms

    Hi
    We have following query to find out on which machine form server is running,
    but how to find hostname/ip address of reports server (if there are more than one reports server running and on different machines).
    SELECT SYS_CONTEXT('USERENV','HOST'), SYS_CONTEXT, SYS_CONTEXT('USERENV','IP_ADDRESS')
    from dual.
    can anybody answer?
    rocky rocks.

    Our oas name is the same as the box name, and the report server naming convention is rep_(oas name) so that makes it easy to find out.
    I have a pll attached to my form that contains the following function, which works for PC or UNIX based app server:
    -- get_oas_name - Returns OAS name.
    -- caveat:  Can't be run from pre-form, when-new-form-instance or when-new-block-instance of first
    --          block on the form due to webutil limitation.
    FUNCTION get_oas_name RETURN varchar2 IS
      fp text_io.file_type;
      oas_name varchar2(30);
      op_sys varchar2(30) := get_application_property(OPERATING_SYSTEM);
    BEGIN
      if op_sys = 'WIN32COMMON' then
        oas_name := webutil_clientinfo.get_host_name;
      elsif op_sys = 'SunOS' or op_sys = 'UNIX' then
        host('/bin/uname -n > /tmp/oas_name');
        fp := text_io.fopen('/tmp/oas_name','r');
        text_io.get_line(fp, oas_name);
        text_io.fclose(fp);
      end if;
      return oas_name;
    END;Then in when_timer_expired (first place you can use webutil functionality) call it accordingly. I also use it to set platform dependant variables so the form will run
    when I'm working on my PC or deployed on UNIX:
    declare
      :control.op_sys  := get_application_property(OPERATING_SYSTEM);
    begin
          :control.oas_name := get_oas_name;
          :control.report_server := 'rep_'|| :control.oas_name;
          if :control.op_sys = 'WIN32COMMON' then        -- For running locally during development.
            :control.close_page := 'http://127.0.0.1:8889/forms90/common/window_close.htm';
            :control.rpt_temp := 'c:\temp\';
          elsif :control.op_sys = 'SunOS' or :control.op_sys = 'UNIX' then
            :control.close_page := 'http://'||:control.oas_name||'.yournamehere.com:7779/forms90/common/window_close.htm';
            :control.rpt_temp := '/appl/oas/yournamehere/reports/cache/';
          end if;
    end;Good luck,

  • Setting up Network Address Server Settings (Static IP)

    To be abundantly clear, I do not want to change my Internet Connection Type - its dynamic and will stay that way.  I'm not paying my ISP (Time Warner Cable - RoadRunner in NYC) for a static IP address.
    I am changing my network address server settigns to disable DHCP, and hopefully assign static IPs to the various comps/devices in my home network.  For various reasons (mostly security/ease of use) it would be handy to know my desktop/media center is always (for example) 192.168.1.101, my laptop is always 192.168.1.102, xbox is always...etc etc.
    I have DHCP under network address server settings, and attempted to change TCP/IP protocol of my adapters in the comps to static IP (instead of obtain one automatically).  I followed the WRT54G router manual whilst doing this.  So I inputted the IP for each comp I want to use, 255.255.255.0 for a subnet mask, and the default gateway (in the example, it would be 192.168.1.1, though I want to use a different internal IP address for my network as a security precaution).  Now it also wants primary and alternate DNS.  TimeWarner won't tell me this information.  They say they tell my router it (since its DHCP) and it changes.  So...if I want static IP addresses for the devices in my network, I need my router to have a static ip address externally?  that means I pay more.  Or have I got it wrong?  Please advise.  I know I could check the router's status page and grab the two DNS servers its currently using, but then when my router's IP and DNSs change due to the internet connection being dynamic, I'd have to go change all the devices in the network (PITA!!).  Thank you for your help.

    Most ISPs don't actually change their DNSs only the internet IP adress... you can try grabbing those DNS 1 & 2 and set it to your PC. try checking if those will change for verification.
    If not, then for primary DNS, use 192.168.1.1 (equivalent for your router so whatever the DNS your router will use, it will just route it. but it doesnt always work), for the alternate DNS: you can use 4.2.2.1 or 4.2.2.2

  • How to retrieve ip address of the server running PAM inside its module?

    Hello all,
    I've configured Solaris 8 with a deal of ip aliases on the network interface.
    Also I've a handwritten PAM module to auth users. It have some specific functionality which is needed for me.
    For the moment, this module need to be updated. This update requires a knowledge of IP address the user connecting to.
    Is it possible to determine IP address (alias IP) of the machine inside PAM module the user connecting to?
    Thank you for your answers.
    Mikhail.

    > Can i access the ip address of the DB server through SQL or PL/SQL code?
    No. It is the wrong place to look.
    Reason: a sever can, and often has, multiple IP addresses.
    So when you run SQL or PL/SQL code (or a Java stored proc), that will likely report the 1st IP address of the server - and you could have connected via another IP address of that server.
    The actual socket call to get the hostname returns an array of IP addresses. So which one is the correct one? How do you know whether or not your client session connected to the 1st IP in this array?
    The correct place to look is at the socket handle for that Oracle session on the client. And determine to what IP address that socket is connected to.
    This is not that easy - I do not think that the OCI exposes the socket handle it creates. But you can use kernel calls to get a list of established TCP sessions and to what IP address they're connected to. The netstat command on Windows and Unix/Linux is an example of how this can be done.

  • What are valid and invalid email address characters

    What are valid and invalid email address characters in Exchange 2010, for example can you have Conan.O'[email protected] is there a document that shows the valid and invalid sysmbols?

    Hi
        The format of email addresses is
    local-part@domain where the local-part may be up to 64 characters long and the
    domain name may have a
    maximum of 253 characters - but the maximum 256 characters length of a forward or reverse path restricts the entire email address to be no more than 254 characters.[1]
    The formal definitions are in RFC 5322 (sections 3.2.3
    and 3.4.1) and RFC 5321 - with a more readable form given in
    the informational RFC 3696[2]
    and the associated errata.
    Local part
    The local-part of the email address may use any of these
    ASCII characters
    RFC 5322 Section
    3.2.3:
    Uppercase and lowercase English letters (a–z, A–Z) (ASCII: 65-90, 97-122)
    Digits
    0 to
    9 (ASCII: 48-57)
    Characters
    !#$%&'*+-/=?^_`{|}~ (ASCII: 33, 35-39, 42, 43, 45, 47, 61, 63, 94-96, 123-126)
    Character
    . (dot, period, full stop) (ASCII: 46) provided that it is not the first or last character, and
    provided also that it does not appear two or more times consecutively (e.g. [email protected] is not allowed.).
    Special characters are allowed with restrictions. They are:
    o
    Space and
    "(),:;<>@[\] (ASCII: 32, 34, 40, 41, 44, 58, 59, 60, 62, 64, 91-93)
    The restrictions for special characters are that they must only be used when contained between quotation marks, and that 3 of them (The
    space, backslash \ and
    quotation mark " (ASCII: 32, 92, 34)) must also be preceded by a backslash
    \ (e.g.
    A quoted string may exist as a dot separated entity within the local-part, or it may exist when the outermost quotes are the outermost characters of the local-part
    (e.g. abc."defghi"[email protected] or
    "abcdefghixyz"@example.com are allowed. Conversely,
    abc"defghi"[email protected] is not; neither is
    abc\"def\"[email protected]). Quoted strings and characters however, are not commonly used.
    RFC 5321 also
    warns that "a host that expects to receive mail SHOULD avoid defining mailboxes where the Local-part requires (or uses) the Quoted-string form".
    The local-part "postmaster" is treated specially - it is case-insensitive, and should be forwarded to the server's administrator. Technically all other local-parts
    are case sensitive, therefore [email protected] and [email protected] specify different mailboxes. However most organizations treat uppercase and lowercase letters as equivalent, and also do not allow use of the technically valid characters
    (space, ? and ^). Organizations are free to restrict the forms of their own email addresses as desired, e.g.,
    Windows Live Hotmail,
    for example, only allows creation of email addresses using alphanumerics, dot (.), underscore (_)
    and hyphen (-).[3]
    Systems that send mail must be capable of handling outgoing mail for all valid addresses. Contrary to the relevant standards, some defective systems treat certain
    legitimate addresses as invalid and fail to handle mail to these addresses. Hotmail, for example, refuses to send mail to any address containing any of the following standards-permissible characters:
    !#$%*/?^`{|}~
    Domain part
    The domain name part of an email address has to conform to strict guidelines: it must match the requirements for a
    hostname,
    consisting of letters, digits, hyphens and dots. In addition, the domain part may be an
    IP address
    literal, surrounded by square braces, such as jsmith@[192.168.2.1], although this is rarely seen except
    in email spam.
    Examples
    Valid email addresses
    <tt>[email protected]</tt>
    <tt>[email protected]</tt>
    <tt>[email protected]</tt>
    <tt>much."more\ unusual"@example.com</tt>
    <tt>very.unusual."@"[email protected]</tt>
    <tt>very."(),:;<>[]".VERY."very@\\\ \"very"[email protected]</tt>
    Invalid email addresses
    <tt>Abc.example.com</tt> (an @ character must separate the local and domain parts)
    <tt>[email protected]</tt> (character dot(.) is last in local part)
    <tt>[email protected]</tt> (character dot(.) is double)
    <tt>A@b@[email protected]</tt> (only one @ is allowed outside quotation marks)
    <tt>a"b(c)d,e:f;g<h>i[j\k][email protected]</tt> (none of the special characters in this local part
    is allowed outside quotation marks)
    <tt>just"not"[email protected]</tt> (quoted strings must be dot separated, or the only element making
    up the local-part)
    <tt>this is"not\[email protected]</tt> (spaces, quotes, and backslashes may only exist when within
    quoted strings and preceded by a slash)
    <tt>this\ still\"not\\[email protected]</tt> (even if escaped (preceded by a backslash), spaces, quotes,
    and backslashes must still be contained by quotes)

  • Is an 'external' static IP address required to set up DNS

    Hi there
    I'm going to be setting up a OSX Server 10.3 machine as an open directory master, to take advantage of single sign-on capabilities.
    From what I have read in manuals and in this topic: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=977178&tstart=15 , it is necessary to configure the DNS service first. However, the topic talks about having an external IP address for the server, as well as for the internet router.
    Is this the only method that will work? The network only has one external IP address as far as I am aware.
    Any thoughts greatly appreciated.
    Matt

    The answer is, it depends.
    If you want your server to provide any external services then it will need an external IP address. Now, depending on your network, you may be able to use a single IP address on your router, having it NAT incoming connections via port forwarding - that's a common setup.
    The bigger issue is whether you need a static IP address or can live with a dynamic one. A static IP address is required if you're running certain services such as DNS or Mail. Other services might be able to get by with a dynamic IP, depending on what you're doing with them (for example, it's OK to run a personal web site on a dynamic IP address, but you wouldn't want to do that for a corporate web site that gets a lot of traffic.

  • Problems joining Wi-Fi networks that require viewing a redirect page in iOS 8.1.1? Check your "Auto-Login" setting.

    Are you having problems joining previously used Wi-Fi networks that require you to view a login or redirect page (say to accept Terms of Use) first?  The problem could be your Auto-Login Wi-Fi network setting.
    I found numerous cases where I could not access in-store Wi-Fi networks (Nordstrom was one), hotel networks or in fact networks where you had to first view a Terms and Conditions page or where you had to login via a web form.
    These were all networks I had used before.
    This appears to be due to the "Auto-Login" setting assuming that once you (re)join a previously known network you can just go ahead and use it without further action. When the iOS device receives an error trying to use the network, it silently drops the Wi-Fi association.
    If this is happening to you, follow these steps:
    1) Go to Settings -> Wi-Fi
    2) Select the network you want to join
    3) When a check-mark appears next to the SSID, press the "i" button on the right hand side
    4) Set Auto-Join however you want, but shut off the Auto-Login switch
    5) Now attempt to use the network and you should be presented with the usual redirect page with terms you must accept or where you must login to use the Wi-Fi network in question
    This cleared up the issue for me everywhere I had previously been having issues.

    Just let me get one thing straight...you don't change don't do this for the PC you have your router plugged in to?
    "For Vista:
    1. Open Control Panel, Network and Internet, Network and Sharing Center, Manage Network Connections
    2. If Wireless, Right click on your Wireless Network Connection, otherwise, Right click on Local Area Connection and click Properties
    3. Highlight Internet Protocol Version 4(TCP/IPv4)
    4. Click Properties
    5. Tick Use the Following IP Address and enter the IP you want to use for that PC. I would start at 192.168.0.100(D-Link) and work your way up on each additional device. The second device would be 192.168.0.101, the 3rd, 192.168.0.102 and so on. Like I said, different brands of routers use different IP's, so it could be 192.168.1.100 and so on, so you will need to know the IP address of your router first.
    6. Subnet Mask is 255.255.255.0 on all pc's and devices
    7. Default Gateway is 192.168.0.1(D-Link) or whatever your router's IP is on all pc's and devices
    8. Tick Use the Following DNS Server Address and enter 192.168.0.1(D-Link) or whatever your router's IP is and click OK.
    9. You will need to do this on all Vista Pc's"
