Validation of XML within InDesign CS5 document using schema (xsd)

Hi,
Can any one suggest me how to validate the XML within the InDesign document using xml schema (.xsd) file.
Can this validation be done within the Indesign like DTD validation.
Thanks,
Gopal

I personally don't work with XML in InDesign too much.

I am having issues with Sidebar files not appearing from within InDesign CS5.5. They show up fine from other Adobe applications. Using OS10.6.8.

I would first of all trash the preference file for InDesign, make sure the application is closed then find the prefs in
/Users/USER NAME/Library/Preferences/Adobe InDesign and just throw the entire folder away, it will generate a new one after you launch InDesign again.
Now launch InDesign and see if the problems are resolved.
If not I would repair your permissions on your hard drive wih disk utility, and if that fails then di-install InDesign and re-install that single application.
Let me know if any of these suggestions work for you
I will be checking my email although you might have to wait for a response as I will be taking a microlight flight over the Victoria Falls tomorrow. Yay can hardly wait.

  • CS5 InDesign cannot open files in the InDesign CS5 document format

I'll be working in InDesign CS5 with no problems then at some point I'll double click on an InDesign file and a window comes up and says - InDesign cannot open files in the InDesign CS5 document format. Sometimes when this happens I have to completely reboot my whole system before I can get InDesign to function correctly. Is this a flaw with CS5? Did not happen with previous versions. It doesn't always happen but I can't figure out what causes it. Would appreciate anyones help. I'm getting to really HATE InDesign!!

I have not uninstalled and reinstalled, but I did just switch over to another workstation using Time Machine. The previous system was Leopard. This one is running Snow Leopard.
I'm not sure how to parse this. When you say "switch over to another workstaiton using Time Machine" do you mean, "started using another machine that happens to be using Time Machine for backups and is also running 10.6 instead of 10.5"?
Or do you mean, "Used the Time Machine program to upgrade from 10.5 to 10.6?" If you mean the second one, well, I can't say I am surprised that things are messed up. And that would make your problem rather different than the other posters, which is good reason for you to have started your own thread (and thus your own solution)....
I'm a little bit leary of getting in and changing things in Terminal, without understanding what I am changing. Plus this is a workstation at work, so if I screw something up, that is not a good things, and I don't have time to spend a day fixing things back up again, with the way our workload is.
Well, you can find a lot of marginal documentation about lsregister and Launch Services, but I wonder whether your understood the ramifications of messing with Time Machine (or maybe I have misinterpretted you!). I'd be surprised if you found another way to fix this, other than uninstall/reinstall.
    Good luck.

  • Aligning numerals and numerals in brackets within InDesign CS5 table

Hi there... I have a curly question that I have nearly cracked but it is still eluding me just slightly.
A project I am working on (Annual Report) within InDesign CS5 (Mac) contains a lot of tables with numbers listed in the financial section, as you'd expect.
I want to align all the list of numbers so that if one cell (within the table) has a series of numbers and then the next cell has another set of numbers but this time it is bracketed, that the last numeral without brackets will align with the last numeral within the brackets.
So essentially you would look at the list and the numerals will align up and down, bracketed or not...
I have been able to work this out outside of tables and within a table that is a set column width but my issues start when this style is applied to a column width that varies from the origin one where the style was created... unfortunately the columns throughout the financial section will vary in size and I can't keep making different individual styles for each varying column...
I hope someone out there has had a similar experience and can provide an answer to this what would seem fairly simple issue.
    Thanks in advance.

Would it be too much work to highlight each column:
    Align Left
    Using Tabs:
      Use Align to Decimal
      Change Decimal to ]
       Center this tab in Column

  • a tag is creating error in import XML in InDesign CS5.5

    Hi All,
I am doing upgrade from InDesign CS2 to InDesign CS5.5.
I have indt file. It has been designed using the CS2 and now converted that indt file into CS5.5 using InDesign CS5.5.
But I am facing some serious issue while doing export to pdf in CS5.5 version.
    I am following below steps:
    1) Open indt file.
    2) File Menu --> Import XML... [This XML file contains <a href="website link"> html tag]
    3) XML Import Options [no change- defalut options selected]
    4) Ideally it should merge this XML data with the indt file but it is asking me for some input and showing me "Find:" dialog [Check below snapshot]
I did some research and find out that I am getting this Find dialog because of the <a> tag in XML. when I removed the <a> tag from XML then it didn't give any dialog box and imported XML without any issue.
I am getting that xml from system and I cant remove the <a> tag from xml manually.
However I was not getting any error while doing import XML in CS2 version.
Please can anybody help in this?

When there is "http://" in anchor tag it will pop up this input window in manual export from indd/indt to pdf and it will failed in export through action script.
I communicated with the Adobe and it was bug. Adobe has confirmed that they would realease the patch for same sometime later, but I have not heard of anything. I got work around by removing it "http://" using java.

  • Including a zoom bar in a .swf Indesign CS5 document

    Dear all,
I am trying to create a flipbook with Indesign CS5 and I am wondering if I have to use .swf or .pdf export.
    My questions are :
    > in .swf export, can we include :
    - .pdf downloadable documents
    - zoom bar
    > in .pdf export, can include an effect wich is similar to intercative pages
    Thanks for your answers.
    Have a nice day !

    Hi
I´m afraid you can´t if you use InDesign only.
Check out add-on procuct called eDocker (http://www.edocker.com) It does all that and lot´s of extra features as well...
    Check the sample:
    http://www.edocker.com/_demo/edocker-online-demo/index.html
There´s also a fully functional few days trial... you can test it yourself with your own SWF files you have exported from InDesign.
(remember to ask discount code if you download the trial...=)

  • How to make InDesign CS5 documents lock to other users on network when open

We have multiple users using InDesign CS5 across our network.  In InDesign CS4 when one person had a page open, it was locked to any other users, but in CS5 the pages are not locked, and this causes changes not to be saved.  We want them to lock, any suggestions?

We have a mac environment, with a mac server.  Editorial dept. opens the pages to put stories on, and at different times another dept. needs the pages to put ads on the page. We all use InDesign CS5. When any dept has a page open, it does show the .idlk file, but still allows another user to open the document.  However, once in a while,  it locks it and doesn't let anyone else open it, which is what we want.  This all worked in InDesign 4,  it started when we upgraded to CS5.  We aren't doing anything out of the ordinary.

  • Problems with opening Indesign CS5 document in CS4

I have the CS4  Design Premium  Academic package and am working with another graphic designer who uses CS5 - Indesign. When  trying to open her InDesign CS5 file that she exported to the CS4 format I received the following message - " cannot open brochure.indd. Please upgrade your plug-ins to their latest versions or upgrade  to the latest version of Adobe InDesign. I called Adobe and they suggested to export the CS4 file to the idml format. We did that and when I opened the file many formatting features- such as no margins or grids appeared. Any suggestions - I don't want to upgrade to CS5 if I don't need to. Also, any suggestionsthe cheapest place to upgrade if I need to?

She didn't export it for CS4. If she had it wouldn't be an INDD file. She needs to export to IDML and you need to realize that this document may not look like it does in CS5.
You do need to upgrade if you want to work successfully with this other designer. Worth noting, in case you don't, is that you cannot upgrade individual components of the suite. Personally, I recommend Design Premium as the best bang for the buck.
    Here's why: http://www.theindesignguy.com/purchase-advice.shtml
You find a link a Amazon on that page, which as far as I can tell is the best place to buy with free shipping and for the most part no sales tax.

  • This is possible in InDesign CS5.5 using Folio Builder (DPS).

    Hi DPS Experts,
I am new to this DPS work flow.
I am using InDesign CS5.5. I have the question? This is possible to create the apps for the below mentioned web link.
    http://www.spanish-real-estate.co.uk/
The website is in joomla and the domain is www.spanish-real-estate.co.uk
The app will be free so I am not sure if this will need apple store approval.
If it possible please any one help to or guide how to I start the process how to uploaded the files in DPS and how to check it out the video and audio and everthing like in the website to be embeded in the iPad Apps.
Please give the path to achieve this goal.
    thx,
    csm_phil

Out of curiosity, why do you want your app to look like the actual website?
And Yes every app goes through an approval process before it appears in the app store.

  • .indd files all greyed out, cannot open from within Indesign CS5

    Dear all,
    On a iMac g5 i7 with Indesign CS5 (7.0.4).
Since yesterday all .indd files are greyed out when trying to open them from Indesign (command-o).
From Finder they open fine still...
Can't find anything on the web.
    Clues?
    Thanks,
    Dirkjan

Indeed, you clearly need to find the source of the problem.
In my limited experience, this kind of thing happens when some program misbehaves and causes the LS Database to get corrupt. This usually happens as a one-time event, so rebuilding is an easy solution.
In your case, obviously the problem is chronic, so you will need to get to the bottom of it.
There is no reason to assume that InDesign is at fault. I'm afraid I don't have any tips for you. Contact an Apple support path, I guess.

  • Why is Indesign CS5.5 using 100.7% of my CPU on Macbook Pro?

I have been having lots of issues with sluggishness on my older Macbook Pro 2.16 GHz Intecore 2 duo machine since upgrading my Indesign CS3 to 5.5. Today I noticed in Activity Monitor that Indsign is drawing anywhere from 93% to 100.7% of CPU despite having only two small display ad files open. Is there any reason for this, or a setting so I can stop this great application from robbing the rest of the machine of CPU power? When this occurs and I open Photoshop, fuggitaboudit, I start seeing spinning rainbows. Today I had Indesign freeze with spinning rainbows and lost the last bit of unsaved work both times...nothing major but really annoying.

Oh, were we concerned about the 100.7%? It's either due to multicore systems or round-off error, but certainly ID shouldn't use that much under normal circumstances, so clearly something is wrong.
John and Macinbytes: OK, it hung while outputting the package of the project in question, so I aborted in Activity Monitor and have posted the crach report here: http://pastebin.com/XjuJY8Z8

So, this crash was either due to Packaging or Preflight. Astoundingly, based on previous experience, I think this one actually is because of Live Preflight. Try turning it off.
I thought your crashes were actually more random, not based on a particular action. Does it usually succeed in packaging this document, or is this a reproducible crash?
I don't think Macinbytes' experience is very generalizable, though. We'll see...

  • Indesign CS5 document opened by two users

We have a problem when one user has an indesign document open off of a shared server and then another user is able to open the same document.
This should not happen and would like any insight to what could be causing this and how to stop it.

    Are both users fully patched?

  • Images When Converting InDesign CS5.5 using Kindle plugin

    Hi,
I've been reading, looking for a solution to an image conversion problem. If I create and place an image in Illustrator (for example combining a car drawing and the sun-2 items in one drawing), then export an ePub, convert for Kindle to mobi using the Kindle plugin or Calibre, I am getting the second item (in this case the sun) below the car instead of where it should be. I've tried every conceiveable variation: re-did the image in Fireworks as a PNG, re-saved into jpeg, used the AI image directly, etc. I've unzipped the ePub, but can see no way to fix the car-sun problem.
original as placed in InDesign project                  converted version
Any help with this image problem much appreciated. (Wish: CS6 InDesign exports for mobi).
    Regards,

    Hi,
I didn't combine in the above image in InDesign. The car was a PNG to which I added a star drawing: probably tried it in Fireworks and Illustrator. But, not using InDesign (no star shape tool for the sun).
(However, I originally did combine the 2 separate images (car and sun) in my first attempt in InDesign, which produced the same result. When it converted poorly, I then deleted the 2 images from InDesign and placed a single combined image-probably imported the car PNG into Illustrator/Fireworks and drew the sun, then exported the combined and placed. The combined, see above, still converts with the same problematic result. Is it possible that although the initial 2 images were deleted in InDesign and replaced, and a re-export was done of the newly saved file, somehow InDesign is caching these 2 images?)
The InDesign PDF export's image, like in  the ePub, is fine.
    Puzzling result for the conversion.

  • Indesign CS5 documents not opening

Recently, I had issues with my MacBook and had to reinstallled the operating system. After that my WD Passport would not read on my desktop and so I had to backup all files on it and erase the whole thing. Once I did this some of my InDesign files will no longer open up. The files that won't open are all in one file, so other files on my external will open up also.
Message: Cannot open the files "en_brochure.indd". Adobe InDesign may not support the file format, a plug-in that supports the file format may be missing, of the file may be open in another application.

That's real, real bad. The file is totally empty -- all of its contents are just zeroes.
This file is lost forever, I'm afraid ...

Is there anything else I should try?

    Hi Bob,
Naturally we of course charge and it costs only 99, no-cure, no-pay. It does not get any better than that. Do you know how much time I spent recovering this customers file? More than an hour. It often takes "testing" page-by-page, by deleting a page, re-saving and repeating this step each time, from the recovered file in the 'intermediate layout format,' as just one 'for example' story from the trenches. Each job has generally something interesting and these files from the OP were tiny compared to some of the huge jobs we have to download, deal with and re-upload. This all said, I do see your point, so I think you should fully understand how I was 'led' here in this case, since you asked...
In this case the OP (original poster), emailed me the link to THIS forum url and asked me to help. So I did. Thus no, no bait being used here at all. Yet quite frankly, many would GLADLY want to hear about this service before going through many and various loops of fire only to have no results, when the Markzware no-fix, no-pay InDesign file recovery service is available, as this recent customer testimonial closes with (He wished he would have just turned to Markzware right from the start):
"...Within one or two hours, Markzware had the converted and fixed file  back with all of the images and content preserved and it now opened  perfectly. So to be honest, if we had know about this Markzware  Corrupted InDesign File Recovery Service off the bat, we would have gone  straight for it."
Devin Drake - CEO at appacci
Thank you Bob for all the referrals as well, we appreciate that. Please keep them coming! In this case though, we were led here by the OP in a rush, like many of these bad InDesign jobs end up being, for a recovery solution. We provided that recovery with no strings attached, as we always strive to deliver.
    Have a great one,
    David
