Validity Fingerprint Sensor WBF drivers (without HP software)

I really want to use the fingerprint reader on the HP Probook 430 G2, which is a Validity VFS495.The default wat is to use HP's security software, which I don't want to use.Another option would be to use Windows 8.1's built in "Biometrics" feature, but it's not enabled for some reason. Some reading into the issue told me that I need to install a "Windows Biometric Framework" enabled driver, but I couldn't find a working driver for the VFS495.It was suggested on multiple forums to download and use the driver from "http://www.validityinc.com/software/hp/wbf.php", but that link seems to be dead.Is there any other solution that would allow me to use the fingerprint reader without HP's software, or perhaps does anyone have a mirror to Validity's WBF driver?Thank you,-Elad

Hi, Elad: The only suggestion I can offer would be to try the consumer notebook security software to enable the fingerprint sensor to work. http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=ob-137753-1&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&os=4158&product=6521374&sw_lang= This is the corresponding fingerprint sensor driver if you need that too. http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=ob-123863-1&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&os=4158&product=6521374&sw_lang=

  • Validity fingerprint sensor stopped working. Reports error.

I have a Pavilion m6 1035-dx.  I recently clean installed windows 8.1.  I had Windows 8.1 before, but wanted to clean my computer up, so I just reinstalled it.  However, the fingerprint sensor has stopped working now.  It worked before just fine.  In the device manager it is says the driver is up to date, and I have already gone to the webpage to redownload the most recent driver and tried reinstalling it, but it still does not work.  Whenever I try to swipe it for HP simplepass or to set up the fingerprint sign-in option for windows, it just says that there was an error.  What should I do?  Thanks.

Probably first thing I would try is a hard reset:

  • Install Fingerprint Reader drivers without the software?

Since my last question was answered so quickly and so well I thought I'd try one more.  Are there any drivers to install just the fingerprint reader device without the extra software that comes with it?  I don't want to use the fingerprint reader, but also don't want a unrecognized device in the device manager.
Thanks for any and all help.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Thanks for your reply.  I've tried both your options without much success.
    1. I've downloaded the software from here, but when I extract it the only thing extracted is a Setup32.exe and SWI.xml
    2. I don't have an option to disable the scanner in the registry.  When I look I have the following options:
Security-> Fingerprint-> Predesktop Authentication = disabled (it was enabled, but I disabled it)
      Security-> Fingerprint-> Reader Priority = External
      Security-> Fingerprint-> Security Mode = Normal
Changing the Predesktop Authentication to disabled didn't stop Windows from prompting about a new device.  Any other ideas?
Thanks for the help so far.

  • FingerPrint Sensor/Software not working right with Windows XP Pro SP3

    Hi All,
I have a 3 month old Satellite Pro S300-S2504 (2.4 GHz CPU, 3 GB RAM, Bluetooth, firewire - was a custom build with most of the options I could get). The O/S installed was/is Vista Business. It came with a dowgrade XP Pro SP3 disc as well.
I bought a second hard drive - swapped it with the original and installed Windows XP Pro on it - having grown tired of Vista. I don't intend to keep both O/S's - but I didn't want to mess with what I had until I got XP working - and that's the reason I got the second hard drive for XP. Anyway, XP Pro is installed and working except the fingerprint sensor. As soon as I booted for the first time - with nothing but the factory everything installed, it prompted me to register fingers for the sensor. I tried but I got a database not found error followed by a sensor not working error. I got the latest updates for the fingerprint sensor, removed what I had - rebooted and installed the newer program - I got the same error. I then uninstalled the program again, went through the registry and removed all entries whose key had TrueSuite in it, rebooted and installed the latest version again - rebooted - and got the same errors. Looking in Device Manager, the sensor is working fine but once I try to register a finger and it fails, I then look in Device Manager and the sensor has a yellow error indicator. I used System Restore to go back to the original configuration and then tried the Fingerprint drivers/patches for Vista and for Windows 7. All of them installed but I got the same database not found error followed by the fingerprint sensor not working error.
I did end the program, then using Task Manager, I ran the Fingerprint utility as administrator - still got the same errors. I've completely reinstalled from the Windows XP restore CD four times trying to solve this and I can't get the fingerprint reader to register fingerprints - I always get that error.
I have a lot of graphic editing (movies) software as well as file conversion programs and a very stable version of Roxio Easy Media Creator that all works fine in Windows XP - but it all has problems running in Vista and I'm tired of the bugs that Vista seems have - and I want to use Windows XP Pro. I will try any suggestions.  The fingerprint sensor and software works reliably in Vista. I even updated it and that went fine. I suspect there's a problem with the XP version of the software for my computer. I did notice that Toshiba doesn't sell the this model series with XP downgrade as an option anymore. I wonder if this is one of the reasons.
Anyway - I would very much appreciate help with this. Any ideas at all are welcome.
    Thanks,
    Dennis

..a clean Win XP Pro install and it still doesnt work. There is a Win Xp key on the bottom of the laptop, but I cant seem to use it.
The Product Key that comes with the computer is useless to activate a retail installation. You would need to purchase a new one or convice Microsoft that an old one is no longer in use.
In the device manager it shows
    Ethernet Controller
    Multimedia Audio Controller
    Network Controller
Unknown Device needing Drivers. I have searched and downloaded drivers and installed them but it still doest work.
    Get the drivers from here.
Install the chipset utility first, followed by the display driver. Be sure to install the common modules prior to any Toshiba utilities, including power management.

  • Validity Fingerprint Common Driver for Windows 10

Hi,This is a solution. You'll be able to use your fingerprint scanner through Windows Hello without any HP softwares (i didn't even try to use simplepass). I'm running Windows 10.Download and install:http://support.lenovo.com/in/hi/downloads/ds103635 I hope it works also for you

    Thanks for posting this..
The driver is working for me on an EliteBook 8570p, though i did have to foce it a bit...
I upgraded from a  Windows 7 install (not factory image) to Windows 10 and decided to try out the new build-in OS sensor support. On Win7 I didn't use it because it needed the HP tools installed and that was more bloat then i am comfortable with.. of course the problem is getting the drivers.. Windows seems to have installed a driver which  is over 2 years old and doesn't even seem compatible with the OS fingerprint API. I'm not entirely sure whether Win10 is using the same one as Win7, but in any case, driver update didn't find a newer one which was compatible with the OS fingerprint features.
I downloaded and installed the version Lucadebe posted ( Removed link for error in link ). (Note that the installer does seem to dissapear all of a sudden, this is normal i think, it just adds the driver to windows, it won't actually update the device.)
I restarted, but unlike for the other people that wasn't enough in my case. The reason for this was that the posted driver does not actually list the VFS491 as a compatible sensor..
So basically i had 2 options:
       1. use the driver (from lenovo) posted by the thread creator which is certified as Win10 compatible, but doesn't officially support my sensor.
       2. use an older (but still relatively recent; a few months old) driver (from lenovo) which does support my sensor, but isn't certified as Win10 compatible. There are several versions to chose from here, although NONE from HP..
The first driver does list the newer VFS495 sensor (mine is VFS491), so i figured i'd force it and see if it works, rather than use a slightly older driver (also from Lenovo) not listed as Win10 compatible.
I went into device manager and opened the properties for the biometric sensor. On the driver tab i selected 'Update driver' -> 'Browse local dirvers' -> 'Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer'.
Next, because the new driver doesn't actually list my sensor as compatible, i had to uncheck 'Show compatible hardware'.
If you are using the HP provided driver it will by default have a driver selected from manufacturere 'Validity Sensors, Inc.'. They were acquired by Synaptics, so the new driver will be available under 'Synaptics FP Sensors'. I actually installed a number of newer drivers, but the one posted above should be listed as 'Synaptics FP Sensors (WBF) (PID=003d)'. Select it and click next to install..
After installing the newer driver, opening the Sign In options screen suddenly showed an additional header "Windows Hello" with a button to add a fingerprint...
So far, working like a charm.
@PeerOne: I would get the driver from the HP site with the right driver match... IF HP actually bothered providing driver updates. As it is, the only recent drivers for the VFS491 are available through lenovo.  I have the HP Softpaq manager installed.. while the application itself got an update for Win10, the only 'driver' still being updated through it is the BIOS. Everything else is ancient...
I find that especially dissapointing because these are generic drivers provided by Synaptics.. the OEMs simply have to repackage them.. but even that's too much of an effort it would seem.
Also, considering windows 7 can upgrade itself to windows 10 in place, there are going to be a lot of people who will need win10 compatible drivers..
It saddens my that we have to rely on another manufacturer to provide us with drivers for HP products... Lenovo is still providing drivers for laptops that are older than mine, even drivers for newer operating systems..
Will definitely have to consider this when we have to replace our current laptops..

  • Lenovo Thinkpad T410 got errors with Fingerprint sensor device! So frustrating!

I have just bought a new Lenovo Thinkpad T410 2518-FAA from one of main agencies of Lenovo in my country. The new-buy laptop was said to be totally new, i.e. it was not a re-furbished, and I actually checked for manything to confirm the real status of this laptop. However, when I bought it back to my house, a serious problem appeared. At the laptop store, I did not have enough time to check the Fingerprint device, thus I skipped to check it. When I came back home, the Fingerprint sensor error of this new-buy laptop completely drived me crazy!!! I installed the Fingerprint software of Lenovo, but this software continuously reported errors: "Can not enroll users, can not update passport, and can not find fingerprint sensor device." I have tried uninstalled and reinstalled this software many times, and already checked for the latest version of this software, it was Thinkvantage Fingerprint sofware 5.9.3 for Win 7-32 bit. My operation system is Win 7-32 bit. But these errors still appeared again and again. I already checked the status of TouchChip Fingerprint Coprocessor in Biometric Devices, uninstalled then re-installled this device, and it showed that this device was working properly and up-to-date, and I already unchecked the option "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power", but all of my efforts was in vain!!! These errors still appeared and it drives me crazy! Up to now I had been unable to enroll my fingerprint to set up the fingerprint reader! These 3 errors just kept prompting in front of my eyes! Another problem is that the laptop can transfer files to my Nokia E51 mobile via Bluetooth, but I could not make the reverse transfer for a file from this mobile to laptop! Oh, I am very disappointed about Lenovo now! Inside the manufacture box that carried the laptop, there are just some instruction guides without any installation CD for installing Thinkvantage softwares... I had to go to the website of Lenovo and find a bunch of links of softwares that I tried many times but I still did not know how to donwload... I had to donwload the Thinkvantage Fingerprint software from another website... Please help me, guys! Did you encounter the same problem with me? May you please instruct me how to solve these problems! Thank you a lot!

    hey Moon_Light,
i would suggest uninstalling all ThinkVantage software, then go to http://support.lenovo.com ; download all drivers for you unit and install.
at the same time do a bios update as well.

  • Qosmio X300 - Fingerprint sensor stopped working

Hi, I wonder if someone can help me ?
First, please excuse my poor English, I'm Norwegian ( ! )
and allow me to tell you that I am just "normally" technical ...
-so please, please "speak" so I can understand.
My fingerprint sensor stopped working today, this has happen before,
restarting the computer has previously "fixed" the problem, but not today ... !
I have dowloaded and installed new drivers & software ( TrueSuite Access Manager ) ( from Toshiba support ) -- still not working ...
I have checked the Device manager ( Biometric Devices )
It says that the device is working properly. It says that the drivers are all up to date.
But it still does not work.
I've been on the phone with Toshiba support for a long time today, but not even support could help me ...
they had never heard of a similar problem on a Qosmio X300 before ( ? )
They suspcted that I had send it in for service ... and I would like to avvoid this, if I can ...
Cause that means that my computer will be gone for at least 14 days ...
I have also read all threads about fingerprint problems in this forum, and tried everything ... but nothing helps !
When I'm promted to scan my finger, the scanner seems to be "dead" ... ?
Can anyone please help me to solve this problem ?
    Hoping for help !
Thanks so much for taking the time ...
    Sincerely ms.norway

    Hi Luke_1
Thanks so much for your answer. I did download the BIOS update, but got a message that I allready had the latest version,
so there would be no updates installed ... I guess that I ( without remembering ) dowloaded and updated this some time yesterday ( ! )
I guess that the next step will be to use the recovery disk ...
I would if possible, not do that, cause that means that I have to reinstall every program etc., right ?
Sorry ... this might sound like a stupid queston, but as I mentioned ... I'm just "normally" technical, so you have to excuse me on this :-)
Or I might just give up and send the computer in for service/repair ...
By doing this I might not have to reinstall everything , right ? ( hoping for a positive response on this )
I "suspect" that maybe the fingerprint sensor is broken, since I have tried all possible solutions ...
so this might be the best solution to my annoying problem ...
If anyone happens to have any other sugests, please respond.
Thanks again for your answer !

How to install the Scanner Driver (WBF)(PID=0050) --- as I have deinstalled it.

    Hi TheSecond,
I see that you are having a problem with your fingerprint sensor and I will be happy to help. You haven't listed your operating system, so I am going to assume that it is the Windows 7 that came with the computer. If you have upgraded to 8 or 8.1 please let me know. • Fingerprint sensor not working for Windows 7 login

I recently re-installed my Windows 7 Bit and also installed ThinkVantage Client Security Solution v8.30.0049 together with ThinkVantage Fingerprint Software 5.9.5 on my T410s.
I enrolled some fingerprints without a problem and checked the setting "User fingerprint scan instead of password when logging into Windows". In the Windows login screen I see an icon for fingerprint login and the green light next to my fingerprint sensor is turned-on expecting the scan.
However, when I scan my finger, the green light blinks once, pauses, and then blinks a second time. Nothing else happens. I do not get logged into Windows. Any idea what the issue may be?

If you're logging into a domain, then you need to configure windows to allow domain logon with a fingerprint.

  • Windows 8.1 Fingerprint Sensor Driver not working - Fixed my issue

When I upgraded to Win 8.1 the finger print sensor wasn't working.  I had the correct drivers installed.  What fixed the issue was upgrading the hardware driver in the Device Manager program, under Biometrics.  Highlight the Validity listing, choose upgrade driver, choose selet from a list, choose the latest driver which will have a higher number obviously.   My fingerprint sensor is now working!

Unfortunately HP couldn't figure it out when I called them.  They installed the same drivers I already tried several times.  After I hung up, I figured to update the actual Validity Driver under Biometrics in the Device Manager section.  That fixed my issue.    I think HP techs need to be trained a bit more thoroughly.  So Kudos goes to me.

  • Elitebook 8560p Fingerprint Sensor Headaches

    Hello all,
I am a new forum user and new owner of an HP Elitebook 8560p notebook. I purchased the laptop second-hand from a shop near my house. I had to clean the dust out of the inside and repaste the processor, oil the fan as well, but now my machine is working great. I have the core i5 model.
    Here is my issue:
Bringing the notebook home, I powered it up and during the boot process there were weird checksum validations and things did not go fluidly, but it did boot into Windows 7. The weirdness (specifics not important) led me to believe that the notebook was running an illegally obtained copy of Windows. I proceeded to attempt to 'Restore Factory Defaults', which did not work (various errors, I believe the Recovery partition to be corrupted), and so I clean installed my own legit copy of Windows 7 Ultimate x64.
Installation smooth, had already downloaded the Broadcom Wifi driver and installed it via USB. Installed all other drivers successfully, updated the bios, etc. Everything works great, except that in the device manager, there is still an 'Unknown Device'. Okay, no problem.. I right click, go into driver details and attempt to ascertain the Hardware ID (the typical way to find unknown drivers), and under the Hardware Ids tab it also says 'Unknown Device'.
After thinking about it, I realized there was no biometrics tab in the device manager and no way to run the fingerprint sensor (one of the most exciting features of this laptop for me). Now, I know this sounds cliche, but I've tried... everything.
Tried a hard reset, discharging all of the flea power and restoring BIOS defaults. Nothing. I tried a BIOS rollback and then a Scan for new hardware in device manager. Nothing. I have installed and uninstalled SO MANY versions of the Validity driver, to no avail. Have installed HP ProtectTools and uninstalled multiple times with no success. I've tried so many combinations of installs, restarts, uninstalls, device manager scans, etc. Lots of websites, and threads on this forum, have different fixes and procedures that have worked for others with this or similar Elitebook/probook models...none of them work for me.
I thought I was getting closer earlier when I read somewhere that the hardware recognition is dependent on certain windows services being enabled (Cred Manager, RPC, Windows Biometrics), so I enabled them and set them to startup automatically. Next, I enabled all Biometrics related Group Policies. Restarted, uninstalled the 'Unknown Device', reinstalled Validity drivers, tried several scans for hardware, all kinds of stuff. Nothing. Nothing at all. Still no Biometrics tab, just an unknown USB device, and I'm ready to punch myself unconscious.
Am I missing something? Did one of the Windows Updates (there were like 170 to install when I clean installed Ultimate 64 bit) ruin my fingerprint sensor's functionality? How do I get this to work?
Killing me. Can't use one of the coolest components of my machine, and every time I wake from sleep or boot up from cold I get the unknown device popup constantly reminding me of my failure.
Typically, with any tech issue I just google and google until I can get it done myself. I've never joined a forum to ask questions or inquire for help before in my life, but this...... this has me stumped. Any advice/suggestions/known fixes appreciated. MODS- if this is in the wrong forum I apologize, and feel free to move it to the appropriate subforum.
    Thanks in advance!
EDIT: This notebook is 1 year out of warranty, so suggesting HP support is useless.

  • X1 Carbon Touch Fingerprint reader 'cannot find fingerprint sensor device' e7210005

    Hi all,
I've spent far too long trying to solve this by myself, and need to reach out to someone who might have resolved this issue. I've read tons of similar questions online, and rebooted dozens of times after trying many different things.
I have a Carbon Touch 3444-CUU that can't see it's fingerprint reader. It used to work when brand new, but after lots of lenovo and windows updates, it now does not:
I am on Windows 8.1, with all updates.
    No problems in device manager.
Touchchip Fingerprint Coprocessor (WBF advanced mode) installed under Biometric devices fine.
Power management set to _not_ turn off device to save power.
    The bios is 2.61.
I suspect the problem is very low-level, because even the BIOS cannot find device when trying to set it up.
If I have the lates BIOS, but it can't see the device - what can I do?
    Thanks everyone..
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

BleachedWhale......which settings you have changed in the BIOS......
It is possible to work-around the issue, but some manual steps are needed:
    1. delete "smihlp.sys" from "c:\program files\thinkvantage fingerprint software"
    2. run "services.msc" and stop the service "Windows Biometric Service"
    3. delete the file "031D23AD-15AF-4e25-B7B3-DE34893097ED.DAT" from "c:\Windows\system32\WinBioDatabase"
    4. reboot the computer (important!!)
    5. now try to enroll some fingers
This should make it possible to enroll fingerprint and use it to log into Windows, until the bug can be fixed in some future version of BIOS and/or Fingerprint software.
    Best regards from Germany....

  • How can I use my HP built-in fingerprints sensor

Hello. I have a DV7 Pavillion that comes with a built-in fingerprints sensor. I bought this laptop in 2010, and the problem is that the software company that used to be in charge of this feature, DigitalPersona, abandoned it and they no longer update the program, which makes it imposible to use online, and I think it isn't working at all even offline. So, my question is, can I still use the fingerprints sensor? Is there the option of downloading another software? How can I do that?
Thank you for your replies. I am new using this forum, so I hope I am not doing anything wrong.

    Sorry for the late response.
I'll be more than happy to help you with this issue.
First could you provide me with the full model name and number of the notebook you have.
Also, I have a couple of questions for you.
What exactly is the issue with the fingerprint reader?
Can you log into windows with it?
Can you access websites with it?
Does the program simple pass give you any issues?
Or are you just curious on how to work the fingerprint reader in windows 8?

  • EliteBook 8570p Fingerprint Sensor Issue and Windows 8 and 8.1 Built-In Biometric Framework

    Hello there,
i'm currently testing the Preview Build of Windows 8.1 on my HP EliteBook 8570p and have a small Problem using the Fingerprint... but back to start...
In Windows 8 there wheren't any microsoft builtin biometric framework, to get the fingerprint there you have to install the hp security protect manager, and the validity Fingerprint Driver from here:
    http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=de&cc=de&prodTypeId=32...
the actual version that the site above state is this: 4.4.228.0 (31 Okt 2012)
the filename of the fingerprint driver should be this: sp59624.exe
exactly this is what i download, but then upon extracting and "older?" SP-Number appears?  -> SP58152 ????
Driver should have Win8 support, but on installing it it just says it supports Win7 max... another hint that the driver packet is wrong packed...
this is the first thing what is very strange, even, the driver won't install automatically... just manuall, this is also a non WBF (Windows Biometric Framework) driver, so ne built-in fingerprint support of win 8.1 does not work.. indeed with the hp security manager... but when using the fingerprint login there i see just ugly Windows Vista branded Loginmasks... not a real choice..
after a bit of google seach i then found a new version of the validty fingerprint driver, but this is not listet in the 8570p Model download page... just found it with the help of google..
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?cc=de&lc=de&dlc=de&softwareitem=ob-109892-1
this one have a newer version:  4.4.234.0 (2012-09-07)
interessting thing about this... newer version, but older release date... ?!
and it is a WBF driver, voila, i thought...
installing the driver via the device manager (VFS451) and Windows 8.1 is able to scan fingers for login or credentials requests... works quite well... until first reboot... sadly after the first reboot, windows just continously means that a finger is getting swyped acrous the fingerprint reader, but it isn't...
after deinstalling the device, and reinstalling it (and driver) the fingerprint reader works again still the next reboot...
any help is appreciated and HP PLEASE do something about all the issues with the fingerprint readers even in Windows 8 (and/or correct the download)

    Hello DaStivi,
