Value RAM & External HD ?s

I'm seriously considering upping the RAM in my 24-inch iMac to 2GB. iStatPro is showing me with 15MB free and 294MB inactive with just Safari, Firefox, MS Entourage and Acrobat running.
My question is: Will there be any noticeable difference between "value RAM" (frys.com has 2GB Corsair Value Select for $129.99) and the more expensive stuff?
Another question: How do I interpret the iStatPro numbers. Do I really have 309MB free?
Finally, I just got one of the new Airport Extremes. I've looked at the WD MyBooks and the Lacie drives in the Apple Store. Is one a better value than the other? I'd like to be able to of course share it over my small home network via the APE. I'm debating whether I want to worry about enough space for complete backups of my iMac and Mac Mini drives or just enough for my iTunes, iPhoto and video files.

To understand the information reported on RAM read: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107918. The amount of RAM available for applications is the sum of Free RAM and Inactive RAM. So, yes, you have 309 MBs of RAM available. If you run out of physical RAM the OS will automatically utilize the disk-based VM file to provide additional memory when needed.
The main difference between "cheap" and "expensive" RAM will usually be related to its quality and warranty. For example, DataMem (www.datamem.com) often has two grades of RAM available. The "economy" version comes with a one-year warranty. The "regular" version comes with a Lifetime warranty.
Buy your RAM from a dealer with a good reputation and a good return policy. I've been buying RAM from DataMem for over 10 years and have been completely satisfied. Never had to return a purchase.

Kingston Value Ram modules on PM dual core 2.0Ghz

I have a powermac dual core 2.0 with 512mb non-ECC RAM.
I'm searching for memory to upgrade my mac but the only kingston memory modules that i find in every local store i visited match the Part Number KVR533D2N4/X (X = 512, 1, 2, 4), that corresponds to "Value Ram" brand of kingston modules.
I search in the forums about problems with Kingston Value Ram and i would like to know experiences upgrading dual core powermacs with this memory module (KVR533D2N4/X) or other 'Value Ram' memory modules provided by kingston.

I've used the Kingston brand on all my mac (ibook 700mhz G3,1.25DDR, 1.25 DP DDR & G5 DC. So far no problem. I recently purchased matched pair of 1gig (2 gi)DDR2 533mhz @ micro center, coast me $235.00. I was thinking about getting a seperate module. But I remember reading somewhere that for trouble free, better get the matched modules. 1gig x 2 per package = 2 gig or 512 x 2 = 1gig. I rather use brand for less head ache (so far).

Cheap 'Value RAM' not good ?

I will be buying a new macbook before the end of the year. I'd like to max out the RAM with a 4 Gb kit. There's a reputable shop near where I live that sells all sorts of computer accessories for mac and pc, including RAM. There's the Kingston RAM configurator on his site and this is how I found the RAM I need.

I live in Belgium so prices are in Euros (€83,89 is about $119). This is cheap for 4Gb of RAM. Now on a Belgian Mac forum, people are saying that this is 'value ram' which means it hasn't been tested properly and is therefore more likely to crash your machine. Is this true or just a load of rubbish ? I have always used Kingston RAM because of its good reputation and have never experienced any problems. But I have to admit that this is really cheap, almost too good to be true. I know that apple charges way too much money for their RAM but what they're charging for 4Gb (around €800 - $1136) is ridiculous. I can buy a mac mini with a widescreen monitor and accessories for that money. So can anyone give any feedback on the memory thing ?

The part about Samsung was to say that some first-tier manufacturers have their parts assembled in China, although quality there usually depends on the company with the name on the label putting in stringent quality checks. I'm sure Kingston has done some internal analysis of the ultimate reliability of their ValueRAM series vs their standard series, and I'd be surprised if it were the same.
I'm just saying that in some cases a company might go to an offshore subcontractor knowing full well that they might end up with (on average) less reliable parts in the long run. The cost of returns has to be factored in to the overall cost/benefit analysis for the manufacturer. While a manufacturer's warranty is nice to have, an overall more reliable part is even nicer.
For 2x1GB, Crucial is now near the $50 price point - usually mail-order. Other brands may be marginally cheaper. I'd recommend Crucial since it's already about the same price. The 2x2GB range seems to be far more variable. I've seen several offerings from different retailers for far less than the $160 price at Crucial.com.

Best BIOS setting for MSI K8N Plat + AMD 3000+ Venice + Geil Value RAM

Which BIOS settings would you recommend for this combination:
MSI K8N Plat
3000+ Venice core
2 x 512 MB GEIL value RAM
I have NorthQ Giant UFO cooler attached to CPU. I would like to have as fast system as possible but remain on the safe side - a 100% stable system.... I know default would be safe enough but wouldn't use the potential of the CPU, I gues....

If you want SSE3 support and you do not overclock, Bios 1.4 is the only one officially available (1.41beta is not official).
Try to upgrade to 1.4 and see it for yourself, do the upgrade with floppy in DOS so that you can save your old Bios.
I would rather wait till mid June when a less troublesome new bios is suppose to be availabe for NEO4 MBs.

K8N NEO PLAT and value ram?

I have been searching this forum for over an hour to find which ram is good with the K8N NEO 4 PLAT. I am going to buy this board and an amd.64 3200. I would like to know which of the value rams work well with this. I will buy two sticks of 512 pc3200. Thanks.

I have the Kingston value ram runnin in my system with the a64 3200+ and it runs great. Only thing is when I run cpu-z it says that the ram is xerox. That is the one problem with value ram is that you never know who the chipmaker is goin to be from batch to batch (this is according to Kingstons webiste, they don't say that verbatim but it's the general gist of things)

Report query not returning the field value from external table

I have an issue regarding reports. I have a query having 4 fields from external table and remaining from db tables. the report query returns all the fields from the db tables and only 2 fields from external table. but the same query if I tried in plsql developer it returns all the fields values.
Can anyone please help me in this issue.

Aex: dynamic url - need to pass corresponding column values to external url

Hi All,
I have created a report in which am trying to click on a column link which is a external url. In the url, part of column value needs to be passed as ID.
Example: Report
Name ID     Dept     Details
King     FIN3413900     Finance     Link
James     ACC3445812     Accounts     Link
So when I click on Link it should take me to the page : (See below example)
Display image for BLOB Download link in Interactive Report (For King)
Conditional regions (For James)
MessageID is no from the column ID. (FIN3413900). Hence it needs to be passed corresponding to the row clicked.
Common link is http://forums.oracle.com/forums/click.jspa?searchID=-1&messageID= (Only the number is derived directly from column ID).
I hope the requirement is clear. If any clarifications required let me know.

Go to the Report Attributes of your report. The column you have defined for the column link click on the edit icon. In the Column Link section choose target URL and in the URL field enter :-
http://forums.oracle.com/forums/click.jspa?searchID=-1&messageID=#ID# Where ID is the name of the column that holds the FIN3413900.

Suggested K8T Neo BIOS settings for CL 3 Kingston Value RAM

G'evening!
I'll be putting together a system with the Athlon 64 3000 and K8T Neo board and had a question about optimal BIOS settings for paired Kingston non-ECC DDR 3200 RAM (2x512mb) that's CAS 3. Should have gotten some CAS 2.5 probably but this is what I have for now so in it goes. I'm reading the quick users guide and noticed that you can manipulate the CAS, TCRD, TRAS, and TRP.
First question: Will the board's auto detect do a good job in picking out a stable configuration?
2nd question: If you had to or wanted to make manual settings, what would you suggest? The CAS value is rather easy since I guess it should be set to 3 but what settings would one pick for the others?
And if I still have your attention...
The other things that will be going in the system are the infamous Maxtor 120 gig SATA HD, a XFX 5900FX video card, Lite-On combo burner. Powersupply is an Antec Solution Series 400W PS. After reading the forums for a bit I get the impression that you shouldn't forget to load the SATA Promise drivers so the HD will get recognized. My SATA drive will be the only drive in the system and will of course be the boot drive. Any other possible pitfalls or problems I should know about with the Maxtor SATA's and the K8T Neo board?
Also, I had thought I read from a review that the Zalman Al-Cu CPU heatsink/fan will fit on this board. Of course after seeing it in my hands for the first time I thought that it was a pretty damn big heatsink. Anyone else using this heatsink? (haven't taken it out of the packaging yet so that's why I wanted some impressions).

Modifying value in external xml file

Hi,
I've been searching around for some time and haven't been able to find the solution to what I think should be a simple problem.
I have an xml file that I need to change the value of an item from False to True.
The structure of the file is:

<system-page>
<id>1</id>
<other fields></other fields>
<dynamic-metadata>
     <name>publish</name>
     <name>yes</name>
</dynamic-metadata>
<dynamic-metadata>
     <name>frontpage</name>
     <name>no</name>

I am able to read the file and get to the exact line as such:

I'm not sure how to edit and save the value. I imaging it's something like this:
<cfset arrItemNodes[1].xmlText = 'True'>
But is there anyway to save this information in the xml file at the right location?

Yes. If you check the documentation linked above, it explains the function expects an "a simple value such as an integer, a binary object, or an XML document". An array is not any of those types. So that is why you are getting the error. You need to pass in the whole xml document.
I don't see how the write action would know where to embed my edit in the XML file.
Correct. It would not know. You need to write the entire xml document back to the file (ie xmlText).
Not sure which CF version, I think 8? Obviously I'm new to CF.
Welcome to CF. You can find out your server version by cfdumping the SERVER scope. Cfdump is a great debugging tool. Also, if you are new be sure to bookmark the online documentation. It is my first stop when I have questions about a function or tag. Still use it most every day :-)

My Imac 3.06 gh , 4 gig ram - External Hardrive issues

I am a happy owner of my Imac.
I also bought a free agent 1tb external hardrive for the time machine.
In the last weeks though when i restart my computer,it just doesnt see my external hardrive. I have to disconnect he fireware port 800 and reconnect and then all ok .
But this is something it shouldnt really happen is ennoying.
I would really apppreciate any help.

External OS command script in file adapter - return value check possible?

Is it possible to check return value of external OS script execution which is called in the file adapter? We want to see the result in the adapter monitoring. The documentation says: "Message processing is independent of any errors that occur during the execution of a configured operating system command."

External Cache Error

I have Motherboard MSI K7N2 Delta ISLR and CPU Athlon XP 2500+ Barton, RAM 1 x 512 Kingston DDR 333 Value RAM.
The problem, External Cache option in BIOS is disabled for correct function the OS, if enabled External Cache option the system crash in the boot the OS.
CPU is Brong? this is in BOX.
Motherboard is Brong?
I have not other CPU or Motherboard for test.
Help Me.

Your ssytem don't have any external cache, its all onboard on the CPU its self. Why do you want to enable it? Is the machine stable and going ok with is disabled? Use a CPU ID Tool to verify the CPU's internal cache.
