Vanilla rpd modification.

Hi,
I am currently working on OBIEE integrated with Oracle Apps. We have a discoverer report which needs to be created in OBIEE. There are coupl of fields missing in OBIEE subject area. I was able to indentify these fields in the physical and logical tables. These two columns were not pulled into the presentaion layer. My question is 1. can I just drag and drop this field from BMM layer to presentaion layer. 2. How do I confirm that I am dragging and dropping this field into the correct subject area. Please adivse. Thanks.

Hi User,
. can I just drag and drop this field from BMM layer to presentaion layer. What the subject area? means under which category it is referring ?
2. How do I confirm that I am dragging and dropping this field into the correct subject area.Confirm the table names or report to which one it is relation (AP,AR,payables ....?? ) so that u can direclty pull the column to presentation layer
thanks,

  • Missing fields in subject area in vanilla rpd.

    Hi,
I am trying to create a Dsicoverer report in OBIEE. The report is Vendor Bank Account information. I am unable to find any bank account information in the subject areas that came in the vanilla rpd. Is there any subject area that would fit my needs or do I have to modify the rpd and pull the bank information there.
    Thanks,

    Hi,
I have a question ...if the fields do not exist in the subject area can we just import those fields into the subject area? after importing do we have to do the physical and complex joins as well? then do we have to move the field to the Presentation layer? What is the procedure if a field is missing in the subject area? we are using OBIEE integrated with Oracle apps and informatica as the ETL tool. Please advise.

  • Error in viewing the Vanilla Reprots

    Hi All,
I have installed OBIEE 11g and top of it i have installed OBIA 7.9.6.3 in my local machine. I got the Vanilla RPD (OracleBIAnalyticsApps) and catalog as part of the OBIA installation.
When i try to open a existing report in the Presentation Services it throws following error:
    View Display Error
Odbc driver returned an error (SQLExecDirectW).

This error is thrown because we don't have the database holding these tables. So can anybody please tell where i can find the scripts to create the tables related to this vanilla RPD. I have planned to create a schema and run all the scripts so that i can view the data in my reports.
    Thanks in Advance!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    Lolita

You just cannot view data, if you create tables using scripts.... Its a huge list of tabels.... may be the below link would help you....
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E20490_01/bia.7963/e19038/windows_ic.htm
Using DAC you can get the Tables, but not data..
If you need data you need to have a EBS source...with sample data it, called as vision data... and do a full load from EBS to DWH using informatica....
its a huge a database... the dump will be around 12-16 GB...

  • OBIEE/Apps installation

    Hi,
I worked on standalone OBIEE but currently working on OBIEE integrated with Oracle Apps. We do have a vanilla rpd that comes with OBIEE. My question is does this vanilla rpd cover all modules and does it have subject areas covered for all modules. Do we have to pick the modules while installing OBIEE/oracle Apps so it will install the rpd based on those modules only. I also see that we have reports created for few modules. Like I see reports under these folders 1. Financials, 2. Procurement and Spend and 3. Supply chain and Order management. Are these the only ones available for any kinda installtion. Please advise. Thanks.

Thanks Analytics. Your info was very helpful. After completing all the steps and later if a need arises where we would need more tables in the datawarehouse, can we use the ETL tool to create those tables in the datawarehouse again. This is not one time process right? we can include as many tables as we can into the datawarehouse thru ETL at any time. You have to create a new source system container and import DAC metadata to create more tables if a need arises. After providing the connections/parameters for the new source in DAC, the ETL integration service syncs with DAC.

    1. Do we need to have licences for the subject areas that we choose during the datawarehouse configaration. Yes. For Sure. There are various terms concerned with Licenses. Contact your oracle Rep.
    user4683504 wrote:
    2. The rpd might be the common but the front end would display Answers reports/dashboards only for the licenced subject areas. is this correct? You have to configure the Front end to display your requirements only. if you do not have Automotive Analytics there is no use in displaying it as you do not have source/DW data for those.
You have to customize the webcatalog to display only the Subject areas you require.
Please reward points if you find the the answers useful.

  • Need help in Customization in Oracle Business Intelligence.

    Hi Guru,
I am working on ODI to customize Oracle Business Intelligence ( Category 1 and Category 2 Customization ). I need comprehensive / detail documentation on "OBI Customization" and "RPD Modification" . Kindly help and advice.
    I use OBIEE 11.1.1.7.1 and ODI 11.1.1.7.0.
    Thanks

    Hello Arshad,
Thanks for signing you post. It would be easier if you changed your forum handle to your name for communication purposes.
So I did understand you correctly Ijust wasn't aware that Oracle still uses this somewhat arbitrary wording. Anyways as I said you're looking for a How-To on customizing Oracle BI Applications which means learning how to work with OBIEE and how to work with ODI.
To have and read the documentation isn't bad - the new one is here by the way: Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition Documentation - but places like the Learning Library I posted are a good place as well since your questions are potentially very vast.
In general for what you call Cat1 changes it's all about
    - finding the source of your new column in a source system or calculating it in the ELT if it is a derived column
    - adding it to your physical schema of the target database
    - adjusting your ELT processes to fill it
    - import the new column into the RPD physical layer or create it manually
    - map it to a new logical column in a logical table in the business model
    - expose it in the presentation layer
Cat2 is more of the same but you also need to integrate it into your physical model (both actual physical model in the database and the physical model metadata of the RPD) in terms of joins etc and your ELT-work becomes a lot more extensive (table construction, key resolution, SCDing, partitioning, indexing,..........).
As you can see there's a lot of things to cover so we can't just "give you an answer". You're basically touching topics which take time to learn and assimilate and to just jump in and start doing isn't necesssarily somehting I'd suggest. Best take a training course on OBIA since otherwise you may implicitely "just do" things because you were told so in here or by someone and you'll never see and be able to comprehend the underlying concepts and techniques.

  • Physical Table (Dynamic Name) x Physical Table x Alias

    Hello,
We are customizing the standard OBI Applications .rpd. but this question is in reference to OBIEE, hence the post here.
I have no problems with Physical Tables and Alias in the Physical layer.
It just happens that the standard OBI Applications .rdp has some other 'physical tables' - the one for: Dim_W_PARTY_ORG_D_Customer that in its properties uses a Dynamic Name pointing to a variable that contains W_PARTY_ORG_D.
There are other similar cases in the vanilla .rpd
I fail to understand why sometimes (most of the time) the vanilla .rpd uses Alias and in these few cases use this strange Physical table. Pls. anyone would care to comment ?
As we expand W_PARTY_ORG_D with new columns... these new columns are NOT automatically part of the Dim_W_PARTY_ORG_D_Customer as it happens in an Alias definition.
    Txs. for any comments.
    Antonio

    Hi Antonio,
    From the 11g documentation (http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E14571_01/bi.1111/e10540/physicallayer.htm#i1005872) ;
Select this option to use a session variable to specify the physical table name, similar to catalog and schema objects. This option is available for non-multidimensional data source tables when you select a table type of Physical Table.
You might want to choose this option if you have a multi-tenancy implementation and you want to define a separate physical table name for each customer. Another example would be to select between primary and shadow tables that are valid at different times in your ETL cycle. In both cases, you can assign session variables to dynamically select the appropriate table.
    Hope this helps.

  • OBIEE and Oracle Apps

    Hi,
We have OBIEE integrated with Oracle Apps. During installation we also get the Vanilla rpd. we are also using another new module which uses another database but not the Oracle apps. We have requirement of OBIEE reports on this module. This databse is an OLTP database. We are trying to add another source to the rpd and pull these tables and create a subject area. My understanding is that this is possible. So we will have two sources. One that came in the vanilla rpd which is datawarehouse and the other which is OLTP for the new module. Please correct me if I am wrong. Thanks.

    hi User,
You are doing correct let me add some points
which uses another database but not the Oracle apps. We have requirement of OBIEE reports on this module. This database is an OLTP database. You have Different connection pools by default when u install oracle Apps next, you are customizing the rpd by adding some OLTP database ,
Merging the Vanilla rpd + Custom rpd (i mean connection pools)
make sure that all the join conditions to be made and report should be from theis subject area
    thanks,

  • OBIEE/Oracle apps reports.

    Hi,
We have implemented OBIEE integrated with oracle apps. They are using Discoverer tool to access reports. Now all these reports need to be developed in OBIEE. My question is we have few users coming and stating that they are unable to find few fields. Is there any mapping or any document available that states which field is mapped to what in OBIEE? Also if the user wants to add couple of more fields to a report whci is not available in the vanilla rpd, can we pull those columns into the subject area? In short can we modify the subject areas that are in the vanilla rpd. Thanks.

    hi User,
. They are using Discoverer tool to access reports. Now all these reports need to be developed in OBIEEWE can migrate discoverer repots to obiee

can any one suggest me on it,bez i have to create 3 views

    Hi,
Using Aliases is a better way to increase performace. You can refer the Vanilla RPD. Aliases are extensively used ther.

  • Can we migrate the modifications of one RPD to other RPD?

    Hi all,
I have two RPDs. In both RPDs i need to implement HOver property for columns to show column desc when mouse placed over it.
Both RPDs are having many subject areas.
If i did this implementation in one RPD, is there a possibility two migrate only these modifications to the other RPD, as it is time taking process to do the same for both RPDs.
    Please suggest me if any..
    Thanks
    Sujitha

You mean, description field is filled up with some text ?
did you try simple copy / paste option of BMM, presentation layer.. also UDMLway...
if those 2 rpd's are in sync apart from this change... why don't you replace that rpd with this..

  • [solved] Vanilla kernel won't compile on vanilla install

I am new to Arch Linux but not new to other Linux distros. I've encountered somewhat of a strange problem. I wanted to test out some custom kernel modifications on Arch Linux. (Specifically, I have been trying to implement unRAID [ http://lime-technology.com/ ] into a Arch Linux install.) I ran into some problems compiling the modified 2.6.36.2 kernel and figured it was just my modifications. But to my surprise, I am unable to even compile a vanilla kernel on a fresh install (base and devel) of Arch Linux. After further testing, it seems to affect other kernel versions, but only older kernel version. For example, vanilla 2.6.38 compiles fine. I've outlined my process below.
    1. Fresh install of Arch Linux (base and devel)
    2. Installed OpenSSH and configured so I could connect remotely.
    3. Prepare source tree: http://pastie.org/1929380
    4. Accepted defaults on make menuconfig
    5. Full build log: https://pastee.org/gvng5
Then it tanks on this error:
    CC arch/x86/mm/mmio-mod.o
    LD arch/x86/mm/mmiotrace.o
    LD arch/x86/mm/built-in.o
    LDS arch/x86/vdso/vdso32/vdso32.lds
    AS arch/x86/vdso/vdso32/note.o
    AS arch/x86/vdso/vdso32/int80.o
    VDSO arch/x86/vdso/vdso32-int80.so.dbg
gcc: error: elf_i386: No such file or directory
    OBJCOPY arch/x86/vdso/vdso32-int80.so
    objcopy: 'arch/x86/vdso/vdso32-int80.so.dbg': No such file
    make[2]: *** [arch/x86/vdso/vdso32-int80.so] Error 1
    make[1]: *** [arch/x86/vdso] Error 2
    make: *** [arch/x86] Error 2
I've tested on other kernel (old-ish) versions and I get the same error. Any ideas?

I don't what the problem is, but I could not get it to compile with gcc 4.6. I did do a netinstall the first time around though with all the latest packages. Maybe there is some updated package throwing the error? Maybe binutils? No matter though. I don't need gcc 4.6 anyways. I reinstalled Arch with a non-net install (to get the older packages) and it worked. Thanks for the help graysky.
If anyone is in the mood for hunting bugs, you might try a fresh netinstall and reproducing my original steps to see if you can reproduce it. Might be worth reporting.

  • How to preserve recently changed passwords during a RPD promotion/overwrite

    Hi All,
    1. We are using BIEE built-in authentication (passwords are stored in RPD file);
    2. Users are allowed to change their passwords at any time;
    3. Other than PD, we also have a DEV and a QA environements where we fix bugs and do minor enhancements;
the questions is: How can we promote the new RPD file (from QA to PD environment) once it passes testing? If we simply overwrite the RPD file in PD environment, then recently changed passwords (the ones changed & stored in the new RPD file) will be lost. it seems we need to do a merge or something, but we wonder what the Oracle recommended solution is.
It'd be greatly appreciated if some expert can shine some light on this issue. Thanks!!
    - D

    Yes, great questions.
I have always used the merge process which is the base of the Obiee software configuration and I never had problem of security.
As the multi-user environment is based on this process, you normally shouldn't have any problem.
Do a test before and good backup before migration.
    Success
    Nico
Below an extract of my notes :
By default, the Oracle BI repository development environment is not set up for multiple users. However, online editing makes it possible for multiple developers to work simultaneously, though this may not be an efficient methodology, and can result in conflicts, because developers can potentially overwrite each other's work.
To develop a repository in a concurrent version environment, you have two choices :
    * first of all, you can send the repository to the developer, keep a copy, retrieve it after modification and perform an Merge Repository
    http://gerardnico.com/wiki/dat/obiee/bi_server/obiee_repository_merge
    * second, you can set up a multiuser environment (MUD) which use the notion of Projects to split the work area. It would permit developers to modify a repository simultaneously and then check in changes.
    http://gerardnico.com/wiki/dat/obiee/bi_server/multiuser_environment
The import option which permit to import a subset of a repository to an other repository, work but is deprecated.

  • SH.RPD in OBIEE 11G

Hi, I am following OBE to create and SH.RPD in obiee11g. I noticed in the bi administration the "import from table" is gone and is now "import metadata". I was unable to linked to a database although I am using a datasource that I tested (in windows) correctly. How do I import tables in the physical layer?
    Thanks a lot?

    Hi all,
I will appreciate them who can help me
Here iam facing the problem in 11g
i.e,I create an user in the rpd i login to the presentation services by using that user name and password.
after some modifications i deployed the new webcatalog which was related to old webcatalog and i tried to i login with old userid & password there we find that administration tab was missed on the dashboard and also when we are trying to modify any report and dash board it is showing there is no privilliges to modify the reoprt and dash baord.
So, Please help me to solve this problem.

  • Issue regarding dispaly of Vanilla Dashboards in OBIA 7.9.6.1

    Hi All,
I need a favor from you guys.
I had installed OBIA7.9.6.1 in my system successfully. When i tried to login to the Presentation services as Administrator, i'm unable to find the default Vanilla Dashboards/ Pre built dashboards unlike in PAINT and SAMPLE SALES RPD.
In the Manage Interactive Dashboards page, the error is displayed as "You don't currently have access to any shared Dashboards".
Kindly let me know how to resolve this issue.
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Dev.
    Edited by: user8783844 on Dec 15, 2009 7:14 AM

    Hi Dev,
Just to confirm, you are looking for the OBIA pre-built Dashboards, correct? You are not looking for the sample sales or paint reports?
If that is the case, you going to want to verify a few things
    1. Check your instanceconfig.xml, and see where you catalog path is.
    2. Follow the catalog path in the instance config and make sure the reports physically exist on your file system. They don't, follow RNM's suggestion of installing the reports.
    3. Check your NQSConfig, ini file. Make sure that it references the EnterpriseAnalytics.rpd file.
    4. Log into the EnterpiseAnalytics.rpd and make sure it's the correct file (i.e. just open it up and make sure there's stuff in there.).
Once those steps are complete, restart your services and you should see the reports.
    good luck!

  • RPD having errors if its saved in 11.1.1.6

    Hi All,
I am facing a weird issue. If I copy the RPD for first time and click on check global constitiency then it shows 16 warnings and no errors and now after that I just click on save to save the rpd without doing any modification then save it, it shows 42 errors. The joins which were not even touched they have got modified that's why errors are coming.Has anyone faced this issue and is there any resolution for it.
    Thanks in Advance.
    Regards,
    Amrit

I copied the RPD from APPLTOP to BI Admin reposiory location. I did some changes and checked global consitency it had warnings but when I clciked on saved it again asked for global consustency check which I said yes then it showed 42 errors. All the errors were on time dimension which I didn't even touched. Just to make sure that my changes were not resulting in the above errors I copied the RPD again from APPLTOP and clicked on global consistency check .It showed warnings. Now I clcik on save and check global consistency it had 42 errors and these errors were same which I got after I did modifications to the RPD.I am not getting why on clciking save the join conditions are removing.i am not doing upgrade from 10g to 116.I am taking 11.1.1.6 rpd from qappltop and copying it to bi admin repsoitory location.
    Thanks and Regards,
