Vanishing Podcasts

Several of my podcasts no longer show up in the Podcast list on my iPod, though I can still find them listed as albums. They are listed as podcasts in iTunes but not iPod. Has anyone else had this problem?

This will happen if you have iTunes set to sync unplayed podcasts, and you've played even a little of the ones that have disappeared. I suggest changing the setting to "sync all podcasts."

  • Track vanishes after changing to podcast

Someone emailed me a podcast they'd made and I imported it into iTunes. It wound up in the Music section, so I changed the Media Kind to Podcast and the track vanished from the Music section, but it doesn't show up in the Podcast section. The file is still on my machine and if I double-click on it in Finder, it plays in iTunes, but I can't find it anywhere in iTunes. How do I get it back (either in the Music section or the Podcast section)?

Can't say for sure... Here's an older post of mine around the general topic of podcasts, but that only helps it they will show up there: Re: How to merge a Podcast that's been split
Did you add data to either the Artist or Album fields? If so and you change the media kind to Podcast again does it work?

  • Yesterday, 89 people watched my podcast.  Today it vanished.  Why?

The first episode of my video podcast, Sky Full of Bacon:
    http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=284186971
worked for a week. 89 people watched it yesterday.
Then today, it vanished. The page is on iTunes, but the episode is gone.
I changed nothing that I know of. It is still on my server; I am nowhere near having exhausted my monthly bandwidth (only a tiny fraction used). The post with the feed is still there, unchanged. What the heck?
    Here's my feedburner feed: http://feeds.feedburner.com/skyfullofbacon
Thanks in advance for any help anyone can offer to this mystifying situation.
P.S. I just validated it at Feedvalidator, that seems fine.

The feed does not currently have an <enclosure> tag, which it needs to be a podcast (that's the tag that contains the episode URL). Not sure where it dropped off--perhaps in the Feedburner stage? But by the time the feed URL gets to the iTunes Store the episode info has disappeared. So that's why nothing is showing up in the Store right now.

  • Application link has vanished from left menu bar (used to be under Podcasts

    Hi,
I opened iTunes last night to synch my iPhone and it acted very oddly. iTunes installed a bunch of songs I had throw in the recycling bin and re-imported a bunch of album artwork. Small problems that I quickly resolved.
iTunes also gave me a weird message about applications (I didn't realize it was a big deal so I didn't read it, something about saving over new applications with older applications) so I said no.
The big issue - my applications link is now missing from the left menu screen (it used to be below the Podcasts link). I don't know how to update any applications or manage my applications without that link.
    Help!
    Thanks in advance.

    iTunes prefs -> General.
    Under Show: tick Applications.

  • Podcast subscriptions vanished

I have a bunch of podcast subscriptions in itunes on my pc. I tried to sync them to my iphone for the first time and because I had very few on my iphone somehow it deleted all my subscriptions that wasn't on my iphone from itunes and now I don't know how to get them all back. I've tried restoring an old libary file my from itunes directory but that still isn't bringing them all back. Any suggestions on how to restore all my subscriptions? Also how do I keep the iphone from overriding itunes. Thanks

    Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping.  Note that in iTunes 11 an "empty" library may show your past purchases with links to stream or download them.
In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
Alternatively, depending on exactly when and why the library went missing, there may be a more recent .tmp file in the main iTunes folder that can be copied & renamed as iTunes Library.itl to restore the library to an earlier state. Look for a recent .tmp file that is similar in size to the .itl files in the Previous iTunes Libraries folder. If it has happened repeatedly you may want the earliest such file generated since the last iTunes upgrade.
If applicable, see iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
When you get it all working make a backup!
Should you be in the unfortunate position where you are no longer able to access your original library, or a backup of it, then see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device.
I've noticed more of these missing library posts of late and a common factor to most since I started asking is AVG Anti-Virus. It seems in some cases it might be at least part of the reason why the library file disappears. Try excluding the iTunes folder from any AV scanning process.

  • Entire Folder of Podcasts Vanishes from External HDD

    All:
Recently I lost an entire folder on an external disk drive. Any ideas about what I should do to test or check the drive? I could not find the folder in my trash, etc. It wasn't moved. I had just synced podcasts a day or so before today.

I don't think the loss of files and changes is something happening 'regularly' and it sounds like, based on symptoms only, that it would more likely point to a bad disk sector or something like a corrupt directory.
As to recovery, the demo of Data Rescue II is the first thought. But I would not use the drive(s) until I booted from another ("emergency") boot drive first and checked things out. I would restore to another drive even, if that is possible, and of course recover to another drive. And backup again before you start.
Don't rely on just one backup drive or method. A couple backup sets, some redundancy. Cloning and TimeMachine. I was using two TimeMachine sets, in case something happened to one of them.
If you don't use your drives, less likely to overwrite or use the portion of the drives those files might have resided on.
I can't find the article on MacFixit, but I saw something about 10.5.4 and having iTunes on a different volume. There was one that warned about not making changes to the folders that iPhoto manages and making manual changes; I assume something to do with the originals and modified changed folders or in the iPhoto Library package.
Sounds like you would have run Disk Warrior from one of your FW drives or something before updating to 10.5.4, along with a clone of your system. Also, consider putting backups on sparse disk image(s). One for home account even.
Adobe posted updates to CS3 InDesign shortly after 10.5.4 was out.
I've got half a dozen OWC Mercury type drive cases. One thing I noticed after 10.5.4 is that some that I had made backup clones now had the "Ignore Ownership" flag set to on - something that I always check and which would prevent a proper backup or restore and wouldn't allow repair permissions. So in some way, 10.5.4 did do "something" to those FW drives, but not sure how or why the ownership would be changed.

  • My podcast has vanished from iTunes and the podcast app. What to do?

Feed URL is http://podcast.mmradio.dk/feed.xml and iTunes claims that the feed is there, but i cant find it anywhere. It disapearred about a month ago. The feed validates fine from W3c Feed validator, and all files are present as they should according to the Apple Podcast Guidelines. Someone help me please?? is there an email for an apple support branch? i cant find it anywhere.

There is no technical problem with your feed, which can be subscribed to manually in iTunes. However searching on the title produces no result. Have you checked at the Store Page URL you were given in your acceptance email?
Obviously I can't give you an authoritative answer, but it seems quite likely that your podcast consists of a 'mix' of commercially issued music This is a breach of copyright, and in this case would be sufficient reason for them to remove it (though you would normally get an email telling you it had been removed, although not usually giving a reason).
You can't use copyright material in this way, and once you've been spotted at it any attempt to resubmit the podcast is likely to produce a rejection.
You could try emailing Support at podcasts 'at' apple.com but frankly I doubt you will get a useful answer.
There is a class of music known as 'podcast safe' which is allowable; Google on the term for more information. You are never going to get permission to use normally issued recordings.

  • My podcast (as in, the one I created) has vanished

It's not that the episodes have stopped working or anything, it's simply that the whole thing has disappeared, it's suddenly as if it were never there! I've had no notification or any communication from Apple or iTunes, it's just gone. The feed is fine, there's nothing wrong at our end, I'm baffled... it's been on there for years with no issues, only positive reviews, and profanity clearly marked. In fact, it won an award! Can anyone help? Apple? Bueller? Anyone?
    Thanks!
    X Dan

Do you mean that if you enter the URL for your Store page you get an error saying it's not available? (As opposed to not showing when you look at the category it's in.)
If you get the 'not available' message it means that it's been removed by the Store staff, though you should have got am email telling you it's been removed (though they don't give a reason).
There are various reasons for removal, including unacceptable content (probably unlikely in your case as it's been up for some time) and use of copyright material (as in tracks ripped from commercially issued CDs - that will get you removed once it's been spotted).
You can try emailing Support at podcasts 'at' apple.com if you think it's been removed in error (not unknown though rare), though I can't promise you will get a helpful answer.

  • My podcasts just vanished

    Hi,
I just about dowloaded the new Itunes (9.0) and while I was syncing the I tunes U library all my podcasts dissapeared, not only from the library, but also from the I-POD.
Please help if anyone knows how or if I can recover my podcasts.

I'm so sorry putting this here. I just figured out the problem. I have 2 computers and apparently all my podcasts were there. So by syncing I actually deleted everyting.
Still this I tunes U does not sync, nor do any of the podcasts on it.

  • My podcast has vanished!

My podcast (http://web.mac.com/rabbigarfinkel1/Site/RabbiPod/rss.xml) has disappeared from iTunes. In fact, it's disappeared from the web altogether. (As in 404 file not found)

I updated my Podcasts app to 1.2.3 earlier, now the app isn't visible on my Springboard. I can't start the app, I can't kill it in the switcher, and I can't reinstall it. Restarting my phone didn't help, anyone else having this issue?

  • Podcasts downloaded to "wrong" folder, then ITunes can't find it anymore

    Hi
When I subscribe to a podcast or download the newest podcast, it will be saved not to the folder of itunesmusic/podcasts/name of podcast, but to /itunesmusic/downloads/podcasts/name of podcast, apparently as tmp-folder. Synchronising just then with my IPOD works, but when I exit ITunes and restart it, the podcast is not found anymore and I get the exclamation mark. When I search for it I can't find the podcast then anymore.
I have ITunes 7.0.2.16 and running Windows XP.
Any one has an idea how to solve this?
Also is there a way to downgrade ITunes to version 6 or so? Because there it worked without problems.
    Appreciate any feedback.

Too my a bit to work out *** was going on, but it was driving me insane with podcasts vanishing on me.
To clarify, this is a full description of the issue:
I have a problem with iTunes losing podcasts. They'd download, seem to play, but when I exited and reloaded iTunes a load of them would be lost and give me the exclamation icon. I've managed to work out why iTunes is losing my podcasts, but have no idea how to fix it.
I've got a folder specified which I want iTunes to use to store my stuff in (E:\Media\itunes).
When I subscribe to a new podcast it downloads to a file called E:\Media\itunes\Downloads\Podcasts\File on 4_ Phone tap evidence - 21 N.tmp\download.mp3 and creates a folder called E:\Media\itunes\Podcasts\File on
I think it's supposed to save it to the first location and then copy it across to the second folder when it's finished. Except it doesn't. iTunes can run the podcast now, but from the temp folder.
When you restart itunes, it nukes everything in the E:\Media\itunes\Downloads\Podcasts folder - I assume as it thinks I have no downloads outstanding and anything in here is just junk.
Apart from manually copying, renaming and point itunes to this file - how do I get around this problem. It's only started since I went to iTunes7 and a complete uninstall/registry/config cleanse followed by a reinstall doesn't fix the problem.

  • I have two podcast folders. I can't delete and redownload the old ones because they are not available any more. How can I get them into the new folder?

The problem of having 2 'Podcast' folders / menu items after adding a new podcast through clicking on a link in the browser has been addressed on the forums by instructing users to resubscribe to existing podcasts, which then appear in the new folder, and delete the old folder.  This will not work for me as most of the podcasts I listen to are BBC, which vanish from the web 7 days after they were first broadcast (about which much swearing, but that's unalterable).  Consequently I can't adopt this solution.
I have resubscribed to the podcasts using the link in a browser method, so that they all appear and (in theory) will download new episodes again. However, this leaves the old episodes missing. What must I do to get the episodes downloaded from the old podcasts recognised as belonging to the new subscriptions?

I found a very fast and easy solution: I selected all the podcasts in the first window, copied them using the command in the Menu>Edit (Command+C did not seem to work). I then pasted them into the new empty folder. All the podcasts already downloaded appeared. The only problem is that some podcasts did not remember which had been viewed or not, while did keep the information. I just had to re-subscribe to the ones I still wanted by clicking on button.
For some reason, the previous Podcasts folder was only recogized as a list by iTunes, this showed up when I deleted the previous folder (contextual menu). I also had to re-select which ones I wanted synced with my iPad and iPhone.
(I did make a backup of the Podcasts folder in the Finder, just in case, a bit like voodoo computing)

  • How do I get the Podcast app to keep playing even after a longer break?

So I´m using the Podcast app in order to be able to stream content without having to use Itunes. So far so good. Now, If I pause the podcast I´m listening to, the track information will stay accessible via clicking the screen or double-clicking the home button to access the Iphone Controls/Multitasking bar. For a while, that is.
If I stay away from the Iphone for a longer period of time, the memory of the track being played mysteriously vanishes, If I try to press "play" as described above the currently listed song in Itunes will instead start playing. So what I then have to do is access the Podcast App again and hope that I can find the episode I was listening to again (which of course I don´t keep track of - no pun intended).
I´ve tried changing the order of the app icons in the Controls bar, but they seem not to want to be moved.
Any tips? True continous play would be an awesome feature as I listen A LOT to podcasts.
Btw this forum is awesome. Just saw somebody replying A4-style to an apparent Troll. You show true love, guys

    HI,
I doubt it is a bug.
In Messages > Preferences > Messages you can set the Font, It's Colour and the background (default Balloons) colour as well plus of course the size.
This should stick if you Own the .plist that this info is written to (And the folder that it is in)
You should also have Read and Write permissions.
In the Finder use the Go Menu > Go to Folder and type in ~/Library/Preferences
Find com.apple.ichat.plist  (yes messages till uses this one)
    highlight it
Do a Get Info (CMD and iKeys together)
In the Info Panel at the bottom your name followed by (me) should appear.
Highlight this and then use the little cogwheel icon under the list.
A phrase saying make yourshortname (me) the owner should appear and it should be greyed out if you alredy Own it.
In the list you should be showing Read and Write Permissons
    Like so
Whilst the Preferences folder is open go to the View menu of the Finder and SHow View Options and hit Show PAth Bar.
Right click on Preferences in the Bar and select Get Info and check you Own this and have Read and Write permissions
    Repeat for Library.
If you can't write to the .plist the info you change will not be saved.  (This includes having access to the folders you have to navigate to get there).
If you are using the Format menu then this is letter by letter or word by word changes.

  • Error with BBC Podcasts - "The Network Connection Could not be Made"

One day last week, this just came up with the above error message. It doesn't affect other podcasts that are non-BBC and I re-installed iTunes and even installed the latest version.
    Still nothing.
What could be wrong? The podcasts seem to be there on the BBC website. Just can't get iTunes to make the connection.
I am based in NZ, but as far as I know, there hasn't been any rights changes made in the last few days that affect the podcasts I subscribe to.
Any help - gratefully received. Cheers.

I think something DID happen involving (legal?) rights to non-US (or UK) material.
I'm in the US and was subscribing to a US based podcast of BBC Agatha Christie mysteries.
Yesterday, the podcast "went away". It doesn't exist in Itunes - and, when I clicked on my link, I received a message that the podcast "wasn;t in the U.S. catalogue" (or something to that effect).
I did a little exploring in the Itunes store and discovered that a number of podcasts using UK material had vanished.
