Variable colors in Fireworks

Hello,
I'm creating some simple logo in Fireworks, it's a two color
letter combination, but I'll like to have the chance to change both
colors to dynamically to decide which combination works best. For
instance, now it has green and blue, in this color there are
letters, drawings, boxes, etc... I'll like to chance blue for brown
to see how it looks, but right now I have to go ahead and replace
the color in every object. Is there a way to say "replace all blues
with browns" and apply that to every blue object?

Edit > Find and Replace and choose the Find Color option
from the drop down option.
Or
Go Window > Other > Color Palette and in the Mixers
Tab, set Color Pallet 1 swatches as object colors you want to
change, then adjust Color Pallette 2 to colors you want 1 to change
to - then click the Replace Color icon to commit change across
multiple objects.

  • Variable color in SVG export

    Hello,
    we are in the process of designing a website for one of our customer, with the goal of making them self-sufficient in feeding the site with new products.
    One of the feature requires producing custom SVG files which are then rendered to PNG (when the browser doesn't support it correctly, that is most of them including Firefox which doesn't like gradients yet), and the possibility of updating several of the item colors on the fly.
    This requires identifying in the source file which colors must be flagged as say, "variablecolor1", "variablecolor2" and so on, with XML entities or some other means.
    Think about online visualization of t-shirt color changes.
    It's not actually scripting-specific, but nor windows or mac, and maybe there is a scripting solution to it.
    Since our customer is using Illustrator to generate their catalog, we wanted to integrate as much as possible with their workflow. AI seems to generate usable SVG files, however, we would like to avoid having to write an error-prone post-processing engine (likely in php) the designer will have to run to assertain which color entries in the files are the one we want to modify. Note possibly another part of the drawing with the same color might not be part of what to change...
    A possible option would be creating the SVG with a predefined color, like #0000fe for variablecolor1 or whichever, but they want to have it look with the chosen default colors when not yet changed. Having them produce two versions (one with correct colors and one with hardcoded values for us) seems error prone.
    The other option, as said is to run the SVG code through some magic identifying the color values, list them and allow checking which are to change. However this is also possibly error prone.
    With a co-worker we checked AI for quite some hours without much luck trying to find something that would allow us to directly flag those colors. The online manual had topics with interesting names but the descriptions weren't really helpful, so we had to test on his machine.
    We found about variables in AI, but sadly it seems this doesn't concern colors at all. Text, data and some other things but no color.
    Some other palette-swapping functions didn't seem to pass anything when exporting to SVG.
    Also, we checked the various option in the SVG export dialog, one exports XML entities, which would seem interesting if it didn't export the whole style of the object, besides it doesn't concern gradients which stay with their hardcoded colors on the gradient stops in the XML code.
    I find it odd that no such feature exists to allow variable or named colors in drawing...
    Does anyone know about such feature, or think it's possible to script something to easily flag the current object in such a way the SVG export would retain this information ?

    Oh, BTW, it technically is not a white background either. It is a transparent background. But the grid is hidden to make it easier to design. For new users this can be deceiving since almost any other app is a white background unless you see the grid like in photoshop. In Illustrator, to fill you are required to have an object.

  • Text variable - color

    I'd like to create a text variable, the text being the name of the swatch fill of the text. Possible?

    Actually I am the printer, doing the impo in InDesign
    For years I've been just typing the swatch name when I have a spot color. I have a generic spot and text. Then I use the ink manager to remap the generic spot to the color actually being used, then I do a Find-Change to add the swatch name.
    My page size is press sheet size. The process colors names are already in my templates, so it's just a spot color name that I change
    I'd like to be able to re-color the variable and have the text change on the fly, but I didn't think it was possible.

  • Color Managment - Fireworks

    My team and I need to use the same color red whenever we edit in Fireworks.
    1. Is there a way to set a default color, so that we don't have to keep picking it each time?
    2. Also, we use boxes that must be the same size line and color.  We would like this to be a default, as well.
    Thanks,

  • Colors in Fireworks CS5 / Mac

    Hi, I have a problem with the color workflow in Fireworks. I think I don't fully understand how this should be used.
    I made a screenshot to demonstrate what I mean:
    If I select an object, the color is adopted properly in the toolbox color picker (1). But not in the color panel (2). How do I get it there? Then, if I put in some values in the color panel, the change is not reflected, neither in the panel, nor in the toolbox (3).
    What am I doing wrong?

    I can confirm the same issue that Orbi-x is seeing and I found some other irregularities.
    First off: Color selections made within the Color Palette are reflected in the selected object and all other color pickers throughout the interface. In this illustration I've selected two colors in the Color Palette CC0000 and FFCC00, selecting them updates the toolbar and properties bar as well as the object.
    Now if I select a color in the toolbar or the properties bar the object will change along with either the toolbar or properties bar but not the Color Palette. In the illustration below I've selected 99FF66 and 333333 in the toolbar and the properties bar has changed to reflect the selection but the Color Palette hasn't.
    Also there doesn't seem to be a way to set the outline to None within the Color Palette. If I click into the color well for outline in Color Palette the option None appears at the top but clicking into it doesn't set it to none but leaves it at the last color selected.
    and the Color Palette doesn't have the little "none" selector like the toolbar or properties bar?

  • Fireworks CS6 crash when opening color palette

    Fireworks CS6 has got to be the buggiest program I have used on my Mac.
    The bug that is especially irritating is when I attempt to open a Color Palette, Fireworks immediately crashes ( this is before I even begin to navigate or select a color palette ).
    I have been able to narrow this problem down to a Fireworks CS6 problem on my Mac as opposed to as simple program like TextEdit. I can open the color palette in TextEdit which adds it to the OS color palette library. From there I can use colors from the newly opened palette within Fireworks. It (FW) just can't do the opening of the palette.
    Is anyone else able to open/add the color directly from FW CS6?
    MacBook Retina -16Gb RAM
    Mac OS 10.8.3

    I have the exact same problem, also running OS X Machericks 10.9.5 on a Mac Book Pro, would be really helpful to understand how to fix this error.

  • Color Issues in Fireworks CS4

    I am trying to use a color called "Wheat" in Fireworks.  The Hex # is E0CCAD  it is almost a tan color with a hint of gray, the RGB is 226-204-173.  Now this is the color I get from a program I use called Color Impact.  When I use this color in Photoshop it comes out properly.  When I use this color in Fireworks, I get a real pink color.  Why is this happening? Do I have something that is corrupt within Fireworks.
    I would appreciate any help or direction anyone can give me on this.
    Bob

    Sounds like a significant color difference, but it could be a color management issue. Photoshop is color managed, whereas Fireworks is not.
    Firstly, check the hex codes or RGB values within each application to verify that they're the same and that no distortion has occurred. Then check your RGB Working Space (under Color Settings...) inside Photoshop as well as the document's ICC profile. A typical setting for screen or web design would be sRGB IEC61966-2.1. (A setting such as 'ProPhoto RGB' or 'Adobe RGB (1998)' would account for the difference in appearance between PS and FW.)
    A good way to test whether color management is involved is to view the graphic inside Photoshop with color management turned off; this should match the appearance of the same graphic in Fireworks. To do this, choose File > Save for Web. In the preview window, there's a fly-out menu: Instead of "Use Document Color Profile", choose "Uncompensated Color".
    Now does the color look pink, as it does in Fireworks? If so, then it's a color management issue.
    Assuming your working space/ICC profiles are in order, Photoshop is showing you a more "accurate" representation of the color by accounting for your monitor's color gamut in its onscreen output. The color in Fireworks is the same, it's just not being tweaked specifically for your onscreen viewing.

  • Help with getting button color.

    I'm trying to make a little paint program. i want to be able to click on a color button and then assign the color of that button to a variable Color brushColor.
    funny thing is, when i compile this, it tells me that
    C:\java\javaprograms\TryPainting.java:21: getBackground() in java.awt.Component cannot be applied to (java.awt.Button)
              brushColor = paintTheBrush(getBackground(source));
    strange, getBackground is explicitly listed as a method that Button inherits from Component in the API.
    any suggestions on a way to accomplish this?
    thanks in advance,

  • Problem in reusing the declader slider variable in VBox

    There is a slider variable {color:#0000ff}specexpontLevel{color}. This variable is used 2 times in VBox content as per my requirement. But the VBox contents are not visble @ the runtime. If I call the variable only once in VBox then the contents are displayed. Without using VBox, if I reuse in the contents of scene also it is not displaying.
    The NetBeans IDE is displaying the below runtime error

    Hello!
    could you elaborate your answer please?
    I have the same kind of problem in an application I am working on for now.
    I have the application' scene content inside which I have a node whose id I set to "applicationContent" (this node is a group).
    Upon clicking on menu buttons, I will remove the node having the "applicationContent" id from my application content and will insert another one having the same id.
    The inserted node is generated on the fly upon clicking on the button.
    Method below is executed only once and adds menu buttons to the left of my application.
    Notice the action:function() method that calls the setContent(Node) method when the button is clicked.
      function insertMenuItems(): Void
            var elementCounter: Number = 0;
            var firstY: Number = 160;
            for(currentItem in menu)
                var currentButton:MenuButton = MenuButton
                    text: currentItem.title;
                    layoutX: 8;
                    width: 182;
                    layoutY: firstY + elementCounter * 40;
                    action: function()
                        this.title = currentItem.title;
                        setContent(currentItem.getContent());
                insert currentButton into content;
                elementCounter++;
        }The setContent method is provided here below.
    As you see, it removes the node having the "applicationContent" id and adds the one passed in parameter ("the new application content").
         * Sets the main content of the application.
         * <p>
         *  Each time a menu button gets clicked, the main content of the application
         *  will be replaced by the one attached to the <code>MenuButton</code>
         * </p>
        function setContent(applicationContent:Node):Void
            for(currentNode in content)
                if(currentNode.id.equals("ApplicationContent"))
                    delete currentNode from content;
                    break;
                applicationContent.layoutX = 300;
                applicationContent.layoutY = 500;
                insert applicationContent into content;
        }the "{code}insert applicationContent into content;{code}" line is the one producing the exception, even though, in the end, my content is correctly updated on screen.
    exception happening at this specific line is the following:
    Exception in trigger:

  • Working with HOT colors

    Hello Everyone,
    I am trying to edit some plastic products but I am having trouble matching the colors with fireworks. Hot pink looks almost purple and I am not able to get it to look like hot pink. Does anyone have some advice?
    Thank you.

    Ah. You're trying to edit some photos of plastic products, to get them to represent the objects more accurately, and you're having trouble correcting the colors.
    By "I have a raw image," do you mean a "camera raw" image? If so, then Photoshop's Camera Raw functionality would probably be the better program to use for initial processing. Are the images camera raw files or are they .jpg files? Are they .psd files? If you have .psd files then you might have a color profile problem (see http://www.viget.com/inspire/save-for-web-simply/).
    How were the photos taken? If the images are too dark, perhaps the lighting was not good? Were the photos taken by a professional photographer who is experienced with product photography, using professional lighting and a good quality camera? Were the photos taken by an amateur with a point-and-shoot camera under room lights? What you start out with makes a difference.
    Also, in order to do precise color corrections, your equipment needs to be high-quality, too. Is your monitor calibrated or a high-end professional monitor? If it isn't, then you might get the colors to look right on your monitor, only to find they don't look right on another monitor and you won't know which is correct. (Maybe the photo is fine, and it's your monitor that is too dark.)
    Fireworks does not have the range of tools that Photoshop does, but Photoshop is intended as a photo workshop, and Fireworks isn't. You might read some of the tutorials on color correction for Photoshop, and see if you can apply any of the methods. There are dozens out there:
    http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&source=hp&q=photoshop+tutorial+color+correction&aq=f&oq =&aqi=g10
    Finally, can you post the image or a portion of it? Use the Insert Image control (camera icon), just to the left of the smilie control. That way, people can offer advice that is specific to the problem you have.

  • Variable scope within an interface and some questions

    I am creating a DataStorage interface with a member variable (can I call it a member variable when it is in an interface?) called dataObject. From what I remember, and what the compiler is telling me, the scope declarations "private," or "protected" can not be used on either methods or member variables in an interface.
    Now I have another class DataInput that implements DataStorage and I want to make the dataObject private and put in accessor methods to get to the dataObject. But I also remember reading something that said, during inheritance you can not make the scope of the method (and variable?) more narrow. Meaning if a method was defined as default in the parent class, the subclass can not override that method to give it private access all of a sudden.
    Now a couple of questions with this...does that rule only apply to subclassing (that is with extends) or does it also apply to implementing interfaces. Second question, I am pretty sure that rule applies to methods that are being overriden, but does it also apply to variables in an interface...because if that is the case, I can't re-declare the variable in the class that implements the interface to be private...and then there is no way to protect that variable.
    By the way I did re-declare the variable in the subclass (implementing class) and declared it as a private, and it works...but I'm still trying to figure out the general rule.

    well if the interface variables are implicitly public static final, how come I am able to re-declare the variable name within the class that implemented the interface.
    If for example in interface Car there is a variable color, how come in class Honda implements Car, I can redeclare the variable color, and give it public access. I thought final meant final, no redeclaring...but does that not hold for static variables?

  • Color problems on Windows 7

    I created a design in Fireworks CS5 and everything looks correct. I'm used to Fireworks when it comes to color, ie Fireworks just shows the monitor colors and that's it, no color profiles or proof colors or anything.
    So I save as PSD and open in Photoshop, and in Photoshop everything looks really washed out. If I set the View > Proof Setup to Monitor RGB everything looks extremely oversaturated.
    I have two montiors and they both exhibit the same problem but to different extents.
    Anyone have any tips?
    Thanks.
    - Aaron

    I did actually have a custom monitor profile, not using a calibration device but just some eye-tuning wizard in windows 7.
    "you can simply turn off color management completely in the color prefs."
    That's definitely what I would like. By this do you mean Edit > Color Settings -- Settings: Monitor Color? I've done this now and removed the calibration profile, and now things look correct, thanks. Unfortunately now things look awful in Windows Photo Viewer, everything is very blown out. Any idea why this would be?

  • SetRGB using external variable (LoadVars)

    Hi!
    I'm trying to do following: I'm loading a hexadecimal color
    value (like 0xFFFFFF) from an external file into a Flash-movie. I'd
    then use the value to change a movie clip colour.
    I'm using Flash 8 Professional, but my code should be
    compatible with MX 2004 / Flash 7 too.
    I succeeded to change the color using action script in the
    timeline:
    //Defines the hexadesimal value for tcolor1:
    tcolor1 = 0x990000;
    // my_mc turns red:
    var my_color:Color = new Color(my_mc);
    my_color.setRGB(tcolor1);
    stop();
    But, as I added the LoadVars operation, it seems that I
    cannot load the variable (color value) correctly:
    import mx.data.components.DataHolder;
    var my_lv:LoadVars = new LoadVars();
    my_lv.onLoad = function(success:Boolean):Void {
    my_lv.load("colors.txt");
    // my_mc turns red:
    var my_color:Color = new Color(my_mc);
    my_color.setRGB(tcolor);
    stop();
    There's something wrong with my use of variable or then in
    the Loader. I was able to trace the tcolor value to the Output
    window but somehow it does not show in the movie clip instance
    color (instead, my_mc turns to black)
    External txt file content looks like this:
    &tcolor1=0x000099
    I'm not very familiar with ActionScript 2.0 or LoadVars so
    any help is welcome. THX!

    Nope, the problem remains (flatcoat, thanks for pointin out
    the spelling mistake in tcolor). I get the value in Output
    correctly, but movie clip turns to black whatever I try.
    Could the problem be related to the fact that flash is not
    able to load the variable in time? see topic:

  • Is there a simple way to change the color of a new layer?

    I draw a box, which creates a new layer, but I cannot find a way to change the color of the layer. I can easilty create a box and change the color in Fireworks but this logic or funtionality evades me in Photoshop. Perhaps I'm using the wrong program to create graphics. Should I use Design or Illustrator instead?

    If you prefer using Fireworks, use Fireworks!

  • [AS3] Access library object by variable name

    Let's say I have a button which sets the variable color to
    green:
    var color:String = "green"
    I have a movieclip in my library called "green". With AS2 we
    could simply use:
    whatever.attachMovie(color, "someclip", 1);
    In AS3 this works perfectly fine:
    var whatever:Sprite = new green ();
    to use the variable I tried the following:
    var whatever:Sprite = new this[color] ();
    but the movieclip is not loaded. Any ideas?

    flash.utils.getDefinitionByName might help you. But you'll
    need to fully
    qualified class path.
    var color:String = "green";
    var ClassReference:Class = getDefinitionByName(color) as
    Class;
    var instance:Object = new ClassReference();
