Variable data sets based on metadata

Can i use meta data as a variable in datasets? (i am an event photographer and have a apreadsheet with (racenumber,time,name) . I want to tag my photos using metadata with the race numbers and then have CS5 add text onto my photos by matching the racenumber from the meta data to the spreadsheet is this possible?

what is want ot do is this;
I take photos at marathons thousands of photos.
I want to tag all my photos with the athletes race number (BIB) as meta data.
Then i get a spread sheet containing the race timings (BIB,Name,Age,Time,Place)
i want photoshop to check the meta data on the photo (BIB) and then match that BIB with the one in the speadsheet and incert all the other data like Name,Age,Time,Place on to the photo.
This is so i can create personalised participation certificates for the marathons.
Is this possible?
I think one way would be to rename each file to the BIB number and then use a speadsheet to tell photoshop to insert Name,Age,Time,Place onto file 001.jpeg ; Name1,Age1,Time1,Place1 onto file 002.jpeg etc.

Can Data Links be established between Data sets based on View Objects?

Hi all,
In the BI Publisher Documentation it's given that Datasets based on view object queries do not support Data Links / Group Links. We found out that only way to establish relationship between view object Datasets is to create a view link and then upload it to create a Dataset.
1. Is there any other way to establish relationship between view objects Datasets in DataModel editor itself just as in the case of data sets based on (SQL queries e.t.c.)?
2. If so can View object Datasets be linked to Datasets based on other Datasources?
3. Will the Datalinks for View object Datasets be supported in any of the upcoming releases. Is there any ER logged for this case?
Any insight on the above issues will be really helpful.

Enhance the data source with date and time and populate these fields in the user exit using the function module IB_CONVERT_FROM_TIMESTAMP .
OR
You can create Z function module IB_CONVERT_FROM_TIMESTAMP in BW side and write a routine in update rules/transfer rules to populate date and time.

Help Working With Variable Data Sets (PS CS3)

I have two different projects for which I believe the Variable Data Sets would / could work.
Project 1:
I have created a student badge for our TV Media class and I would like to be able to use a Variable Data Set to automatically read a data file with First and Last names and then place them in the locations of my choosing. I would like to be able to import the list and have it automatically create the 30 ID cards I need and/or print them too.
Project 2:
I have created a really nice looking school dance ticket. Currently they are about 1.5" x 6". I would like to be able to use a Variable Data Set to automatically add a couple of different pieces of information: Date, Ticket Number (sequential).
In each case, I have been able to successfully create a data set and replace a single variable, but I have not been able to modify more than one variable in a file.
Each text selection is on its own layer. I have tried to create a text file that looks like this:
FName, LName
Joe, Smith
Barney, Jones
Thalia, Chamoix
I have also tried to create two different files, such as for project two:
Date
January 04
February 12
March 19
Number
1001
1002
1003
No matter what I have tried, I still cannot seem to get more than one variable to function at a time.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

I don't hink Data Merge is sophisticated enough to skip a page if the entire record is null, but it will skip blank lines if there is a null field and nothing else on the line.

Oracle Business Intelligence How to choose data set based on a condition

Hi,
I am using Oracle Business Intelligence for creating reports, i am facing a situation where i have two quries (data sets in BI), one to display a Failure message and other to fetch data from the table to be displayed in the report.
The problem is i am unable to choose which data set to run based on a condition. How to use a condition based on which the dataset will be run
For example : i will read a table column value if it is 'S' means success, then i have to run the dataset to fetch the data from the table.
If the column value has 'F' then i have to run the dataset which will display failure message
Please let me know if any of you have any idea on this

Hi Chinna,
You have to use some scripting as well as coding to perform the tasks listed by you. First of all make your form Dynamic, In your Adobe lifecycle Designer, open your form,
Goto, File --> Form Properties,
Goto the Defaults tab,
Select "Dynamic PDF" for the XDP Preview Format:
Click OK.
This setting will now allow dynamicity in your Form, when you view it in PDF Preview tab.
For Hiding/Unhiding the fields/SF, you can use the presence property and set it based on the conditions. like:
if (this.rawValue == null)
TextField1.presence = "hidden";
For your second task, you may map a method corresponding to onSubmit event of the IF and write the code to create the workflow and make RFC call here.
For third one, you need to convert the PDFObject from Binary context into a byte array and save it at appropriate location.

Variable Data Set has only one thing but the error asks for more

Hi -
I have a PSD (CS5, Win7) where I've defines 5 layers with variable names. One of them is the Heading layer with the variable named varHeading. The Data Set I'm importing is very simple in that only the Heading layer will change. I'm gone over the construction of this text file a number of times but when I try to Import it as a Data Set I get the error:
"Could not parse the file contents as a data set. There were not enough variable names in the first line of the text file."

"BABY CAR SEAT AECC0843"
"BABY CAR SEAT AECC0844"

My first question is - does the number of variables stored in the PSD file have to match the variable names in the first line of the text file??
If NOT - can someone please help me figure out what I'm doing wrong?

When you say you have defined 5 layers with variable names are you trying to attach the data set, that has one column, to each one at the same time? Did you create the data set in the Photoshop Data Sets Dialog ? The error that you are getting pops up when you have defined more variables than you have in your data set.

Disaggreation of one data set based on another data set

Hi All,
We are using Hierarchy based IP implementation using disaggregation option in the input ready query definition.
We have a requirement as follows:
1. Disaggregate version 200 based on Version 100.
So, we have defined an input ready query, which would contain two columns one with the restriction tor the version 200 and one with restriction on version 100. We have hidden the column with restriction on version 100.
Now, in the disaggregation properties of the column with restriction on version 200, we have turned on the disaggreation with reference to the column with restriction on version 100.
When the query executed, it is doing always the equal distribution of the toal entered rather than doing the distribution as per the reference column.
We can do work around using Distribution by reference, but not sure, whether the function can handle hierarchies. Best is to solve by the Input Ready Query disaggregation settings.
Please let us know if you have any idea on how you have solved this issue, or is this a bug? I will openup a message with SAP after today.

Hi Shashi ,
I have used this disaggregate property available in the query. It is working fine. In my case i am not hiding the reference key nor the dependent characteristics, so it is not giving any problem.
There might be some problem in distribution if your reference data has some particular combinations of characteristics and in the planning layout you are trying to hide some of the characteristics that are present in your refernce data.
Please check.

You can also try the planning function Distribution by reference, I am not sure whether it will work for hierarchy or not but you can give it a try.

Why would only the first line of my data set txt file work?

I had a lot of success using variables and external data sets until today.
I have an external text file that I have imported as a data set (Image/Variables/Data Sets/Import...). All of the variables have been defined and confirmed (at least PSD hasn't told me it can't find something which is the typical error msg.)
This external text file, with the extension ".txt" has 12 lines on it, each line is 7 comma separated values, and each line is ending in a carriage return.
YESTERDAY when I used File/Export/Export Data Set as Files... the procedure went beautifully for the 8 times I used it. TODAY I only get the first of the 12 lines completed and then the export stops. There are no error messages or other signs that Photoshop has choked on something so I guess something is wrong with my text file... BUT WHAT??
Any insight on any step in this would be helpful. You all know that if I'm using this feature it's because I have TONS of repetition ahead of me if it doesn't work.

When Exporting as Data sets as files... the step I missed was to select "All Data Sets" from the Data Set drop down.

Spry data set not displaying in IE8

Hi,
I have inserted a spry data set based on an HTML table onto my page. The data displays in live view and in Safari, but when I try to preview in IE8 I get nothing. Here's the page:

Not sure what happened there. I was changing and deleting the spry data set so many times that I must have put the file up after I had deleted it. In any case, I put the correct file up. And a funny thing happened. The page works online but it won't work in browser preview. Any ideas?

Data Sets in Photoshop CS2

I'm trying to learn about scripting in Photoshop CS2. By starting, I just want to import variable data into Photoshop, following the help instructions, however am having heaps of issues.
I'm using the Image > Variables > Data Sets > Import option.
My data looks like this..

Mark
but when I try to import the text file, I get this error message...
"Could not parse the file contents as a data set. There were too many variable names in the first line of the text file."
Can anyone please tell me what I'm doing wrong?

I've been trying to do the following in photoshop for 3 hours now, I want a sequence of numbers to appear in a box one by one but now I'm not sure this is the best method to follow. So what I do is this: first I open my document and double click on the text layer, which in turn opens another document (a .psb file, I don't have an idea why) and there I define a TextVariable1 and import a .csv as my dataset. This is what it looks like ->

Now, when I click ok it says: "the name 'myvariable1' is not a variable in the current document". The only variable I see [in the Variables dialog] is TextVariable1 with a value of 01 and layer 01, no more.
What I don't understand is why no other method described in this thread is working for me. I've tried separating the numbers by commas, with or without a variable name, checking and unchecking the 'use first column for data set names' square. Maybe something is escaping me, but what exactly?. Thanks for your help, I'm kinda new to this.
EDIT: solved. I guess it was obvious that myvariable1 should have been Textvariable1 instead, but it was Not that obvious to me. NOTE: It doesn't make a difference if I have any value set for that in the dialog.

Data set not visible in MS Office Word

Hi,
I created a new data set based on an BI Analysis for a report in BI Publisher.
When I try to edit the report layout in MS Office Word I can't see the new data set in the Data Source list.
Tried restarting the services, and it didn't help.
This happens only for some reports. For others the data sets are automatically updated and visible in Word.
Any ideas what might be causing this?

Never heard of this before. Can you turn on Auditing of XQuery parameters and results and then show me the audit information so I can see you are calling both the logical and the physical data service with the same arguments?
It would also help to see both the logical and physical ds and their schemas. Just zip and post the whole dsp project if possible.

Can't create Data Set from BI analysis

Hi,
I use BIP 11g and I want to create new Data Set based on Oracle BI Analysis. But when I choose my analysis (query) in BI catalog and click Ok button it show me Processing.. and then... nothing happends (Browser still show me window Create data set - Oracle BI Analysis )
So I can't create Data Set from BI analysis.
Is there anybody who made this well?
Any one has idead on how to resolve this?

Using Spry Data Set Variable in Recordset

I have a page that contains a spry data set and a recordset. The recordset uses one of the variables from the spry data set to filter its results. how do I apply the spry data set variable to the recordset?

Is there anyway to grab the spry data set variable direct and apply it to your recordset filter?
The SpryDataSet variable can only be used on the clientside (JavaScript) so you will have to get your recordset using JS.
A page refresh can be set in motion if you add {useCache: false, loadInterval: 500} to your dataset to then set an observer to your dataset to invoke the page refreash function.

Object variable or with block variable not set- while trying to submit data

Hi Gurus,
Could you share me the solution to resolve the issue?
I am getting an error "object variable or with block variable not set" while trying to submit data through an Input schedule.
I am working on SAP BPC 7.5 NW and using MS Excel 2007.
I can log in to BPC Admin and excel with my user id and password.
I checked my security profile and i have the submit data task in my task profile. My all other Input Schedules are working very well. Only one of the IS is causing this problem. The same input Schedule when saved as Dynamic Template it works well and data is sent successfully.

This might be incase you have some special character like & in the input schedule template. you need to remove the special character in that case.
