Variable on 0UNIT_OF_WT in BI 7.0 ? Possible ?

Hello BI experts,
When i press create new variable for the 0UNIT_OF_WT characteristic. I dont see the new variable in the properties pane.
Is it allowed to create a variable on 0UNIT_OF_WT ?

Infosource is not mandatory anymore. Scenarios for flexible infosource:
A flexible infosource is necessary in order to use currency or unit conversion from the source datasource → define infosource as an intermediate structure
You can use a flexible infosource as a uniform source for several targets; the infosource can be the target from different sources.
So we can use an InfoSource as an optional structure between a transformation and another transformation. This is necessary, for example, to consolidate several sources into several targets or to use InfoObject-based information.
Note: for direct InfoSources (For master data updates), there is no difference between old and new infosource, i.e. you can define a transformation as well as transfer rules.

In my report, I need to calculate one of the columns as a [certain measure] / [result of another query]
I didn't succeed to include the [result of another query] as a column in my report's request, but it would be very easy to calculate this [result of another query] separately.
The [result of another query] value is same for all the rows of my report.
What I'm trying to do is to run a query before my report (e.q. in the Prefix section), set a variable = [result of another query] and then use this variable in the column calculation of the report.
Is this possible?

Automatically conditionalizing a variable using a script? is this possible?

Hello all,
The TCS 3 documentation states that to suppress the FrameMaker Table Continuation variable from appearing in the online help, you need to conditionalize it and then hide that condition when generating the online help.
I have to convert quite a few books, and there will be thousands of instances of the Table Continuation variable.
Does anyone know if it's possible to use ExtendScript to search for the Table Continuation variable, and then to conditionalize it with a specific condition tag? How complicated would this be to do (for someone who has never used Extendscript)?
I'm posting this question here, because I suspect anyone who is using the FrameMaker integration feature and who also uses this common variable has probably run into this issue before me...

A variable with multiple values. Is it possible?

Normally, when we need a variable with multiple values we just write them while creating the variable or, if they depend on some other variable selected by the user a variable of type exit is used.
However, this time we would like my user to select <b>a few</b> variable values <b>at a time</b>, i.e years 2005,2006 and 2007. He can change his mind and then select 2007 and 2008. I don't want the user to be forced to select ONLY ONE value. They need to select several values at the same time.
Ideally, I don't want to use a range with values from 2 variables to do that.

Hello Alberto,
When restricting variables to multiple values you need to use a range. The variable restriction in BPS supports two operators EQ - equals and BT - between.
In your example below however you could use a user exit to support this. The years you have typed in below are sequential and therefore would fit into a range.

Variable transfered to a second template web : possible ?

I have 2 template web
Template A which contains queries 1 and query 2
Template B which contains queries 3 and query 4
All the queries contains same set of variables.
I've got a button from Template A which opens Template B.
I whish not to have variable screen opening when running Template B as I've already filled variables when running Template A
Is there a way to achieve this ?
Any idea to do this enhancement ?

Hi Catherine,
I don't have a WAD available so it's hard to check the actual name in the menu. You have to go to the template propertjes or manually change the html. Here's more info:
VARIABLES_CLEAR (optional)
u2018Xu2019 = reset variable, u2018 u2019 = do not reset
Reset variables to default values
If you call up a Web template that contains one or more query views that have variables that are available for entry, you can specify this attribute to reset the default variables through the query view. Afterwards, the variables have the default settings from the variable definition.
When creating a RRI setting, you can select the type, so instead of query, use a web template. The use is the same as with a query.

JSTL variables are attributes in the page, request, session and application scopes.
As such, they can only be objects, because you can't store a primitive value as an attribute.
However you shouldn't need to declare primitive variables. You should hardly need to declare any variables.
JSTL is not a programming language. It is a language to aid the display of a JSP. Therefore most of its attention is geared towards outputting things, with a much lesser concern on setting them.

Authorization in BEx Query Designer: "read only" for definitions of variables

I`m developing a concept of authorizations for key user who should be able to maintain certain
objects in the query designer. For other objects they should have access “read only”.
The users have authorizations to design new queries. They should be able to use existing variables
(SAP Business Content ( 0*) and customer variables (z*). On this point, I have a problem: in the selection window of the query designer there are only buttons to create, to delete and to edit a variable.
The user must have authorizations for changing, although he just wants to look for the definition
of a variable (if he wants to see their basic or global settings before using the variable).
I can´t find a possibility to switch from “edit” to “read only”.
The users should only see and apply variables from others (SAP, collegues), but he mustn´t be able to
change them.
The user needs the following authorization objects: S_RS_COMP , activity =02 (change), also
authorization object S_RS_COMP1. If I give the users only activity 03 (display),
the user get the message: “display not allowed”.
Is there any possibility to give a key user the authorization to display all variables with
their definitions?

This is may be due to the authorization but still you can check the consistency check for these queries using RSRV.

How to add a new Shared Variable programmatically to an existing and deployed library?

Hi there!
I am trying to accomplish this on both LabVIEW 8.6 and LabVIEW 2010 and seems like it's not any different in this situation.
My case: A project has a library with 4 Shared Variables (SVs). The library and the variables are deployed (visible in Distributed System Manager 8.6/2010). I want to add 2 more variables into this library. It is possible to do this manually from Project Explorer window's options menu. But while running an application it has to be done programmatically. Can I provide the library reference to the one currently existing without creating a new one?
"Create Or Add Library To Project" function in the Datalogging and Supervisory Control (DSC) toolkit does not help in this case. That function, as the name suggests, just tries to create a new library in the project.
Two possible methods:
The function "Add Shared Variable To Library" (DSC>EngineControl>Libraries & Processes) needs a library reference, which could be provided via "CreateOrAddLibraryToProject" function, but this function tries to create a new library, and if I provide the path of the existing library it throws an exception that the library already exists in the project (yes, as I wrote above, I need to add new variables to an existing and deployed library).
OR
The function "Create Shared Variable" (DSC>EngineControl>Variables & I/O Servers) will add Shared Variable in a process, and not physically in a library file, and the problem (limitation) with this approach is that it doesn't allow to add complex data type Shared Variables (for example in LabVIEW 8.6 it has only 4 datatype options in input parameter, and even in LV2010 it does not have "Image" datatype that I need).
The scond method is my preferred method as it allows to work on Online Shared Variables and doesn't create them physically in libraries (and this is good as the variables' scope remains only till the Variable Engine is running). But it doesn't support advanced data types, and the first method is powerful in terms that it supports to virtually any datatype, it just seems tricky to get that reference to the library.
Any tips?

The problem was what to do when a library already exists in the project, how to add more variables to it. I was looking for a way to get a library reference, and somehow I could not see it inside a Project's property (VI Server functions). Hence I posted the question. And upon continuing my search, I found it on the Application's property list.

How to use a bind variable in a table-validated flexfield

Hi,
I want to prepare a table-validated descriptive flexfield, which uses as source a select statement.
So, in the form "Validation table information" I use as table name the statement:
(SELECT my_procedure('test_value') FROM DUAL)
Up to here it works fine.
But instead of 'test_value' I want to use the value of a field in the form or a value of another flex (using $FLEX$ bind variables).
Please advice if it is possible to perform this in "table name" statement. I use it in "where/order by" clauses and it works fine.

Creating variables in OLAP DML - 11g

My understanding is that the OLAP metadata is exposed to GUI via formulas only. if I create a variable in OLAP DML worksheet, is it possible to expose it to cube view, and awm by formulas/programs etc?

In OLAP Worksheet you can select 'SQL Mode' from the Options menu and run the SELECT statement there. Alternatively you can run the SELECT statement from inside an olap dml PROGRAM. Here is an example.

Passing field symbol value to a variable

Hi All,
I have a value in Field Symbol declared as   <FS-STATUS> TYPE STANDARD TABLE.
I want to use the value <fs-status> -low in a case statement.
For this i think i have to pass the <fs-status> -low into a variable and then use in case statement.
Can anyone explain how to pass values in field symbol to variable? Or if this is not possible is there any other solution.

How can I have both date and time for a Date type variable?

If I have a Date type variable: Date today=new Date(), Is it possible to also give the current time to "today" but still keep the type as Date?
I mean , for exmaple I want to store this "today" to database as Date type, and the value in database is "2007-05-05 13:30:13". I do not want to use SimpleDateFormat to do that, because I want to use Date type not String. Is that possible? how to implement this?

Using filter in PAPI-WS to search instances based on project variables

I wanted to search the BPM instances from my external application. Used PAP-WS to do that.
To be precise, I was using the filterbean, and have set the process scope, status scope, and the variable on which I want to filter.
However, I noticed that if the variable specified in the filter is a 'project' variable instead of the 'instance' variable for the process, then BPM does not
search the instances and throws an exception.
The code works fine if the variable in filterbean is an instance variable in the process.
Is it possible to search for the processes based on the values of project variables?

Thank you for your input. Sorry for my delayed response, I was not alerted that anyone had replied. Anyway, the code you show above, as far as I know, will sort the results by a formula, but not limit results to that formula. For now we've temporarily settled
on this approach of sorting by distance as this still gives value to the end user. We can also write some JavaScript to display the distance for each item using the longitude and latitude values for each item.
In my mind that query above needs something similar to "between dates" (i.e. Range) syntax whereas we would need "within a geolocation distance".
I admit that my knowledge of refiners is not great so I might just need to spend some time with them to understand this all better but at the moment I still don't see how you limit the result set. You could limit the results in JavaScript after the search
has run (i.e. hide items that aren't within the given distance) but this would break the interaction with the other refiners on the page, especially if they are displaying counts (that are based on the original query). Unless there is an event
we can hook into and filter the search results as a last step before they (and the refiners) are rendered on the page?

Substitution Variable in Essbase

In our report script, whenever there is a small change in say Product then we need to update several Rows/code in Report scripts.We were using Rename script for the same like -
{Rename "ABC"} "testl"
So, we thought of a solution where we can create say 3 Substitution variables as we have restriction of 255 chars say V1, V2 and V3 substitution variables having this Rename script. and finally create "V" substitution variable = V1+V2+V3
Is there any possibility of having Substitution variable Value as sum of 3 other existing Substitution variables in Essbase? Say in my Case
V = V1+ V2+V3
Please help me out if there is any?

Your thinking is sound and creative, however due to the way they work you can't define a subvar as a concatenation of other subvars because it will be interpreted literally. e.g.
sv1 = hello
sv2 = world
sv3 = &sv1 + &sv2
sv3 interpreted by essbase will be: &sv1 + &sv2 and throw an error.
(If you think about it, concatenating two 255 char subvars into another would still exceed the character liimit.)
So,
if you want to concatenate several long subvars, just define them and mash them together:
&sv1 &sv2 = hello world

Currency conversion with variable in selection mask with problems

Hi Gurus,
I want to implement a currency conversion as follows:
when the query is opened a selection screen should appear and the whole data which is with Euro currency should be possible to translate in USD, GBP, FRF (depends on which currency the user is choosing).
I did a conversion with a variable with default value USD but I am not able to insert multiple currencies like GBP and FRF as default value/ suggestion in variable.
I created a variable on 0Currency with following adjustments:
- Processing By: Manual Input/Default Value.
- Reference Characteristic (0CURRENCY) Currency.
- Variable Represents: Single Value.
- Ready for input: checked
- default value: USD.
With adjustment "variable represents" > "single value" it is not possible to insert two or three currencies as default value.
When changing "variable represents" to "multiple single values" or to "selection option" it is possible to insert two or three currencies as default value.
But when the variable is saved with "multiple single values" or "selection option" the variable doesn´t appear in currency translation type in tab currency when selecting target currency with option "target currency from variable".
Any idea why the variable doesn´t appear with adjustments with "multiple single values" or "selection option"?
Or any idea how it is possible to achieve my whished currency conversion?

That´s correct. I want to have a list of currencies in which it would be possible to translate. That means clicking in selection mask and the list appears.
That was my first thougth ... removing the default value. I removed the default value but only Euro (EUR) appeared in that list for selecting. I thought this has maybe something to do with the data which is available in the cube and that is only in EUR.
I will check the RSCURR and what kind of currencies are available.
