Variable Personalization - "Save Value" Variant Setting missing in Bex 7.x

Hallo Experts,
in Bex 3.x when creating a Variant (Button "Save All Variants" in the Variable Pop-Up) i was able to decide (via field "Save Values" in the "Save All Variants" Screen) wheter i want to save the values for a certain variable or not (NO_IMPORT).
In Bex 7.x i'm not able to find a functionality (corresponding to NO_IMPORT) to decide which variable should be saved in the variant.
Does anybody know if/where i can find this feature in BEX 7.x?

Unfortunately this doesn't solve my problem. It's not about saving variants in Bex 7.x. But different behaviour in Bex 7.x compared to Bex 3.x.
In Bex 3.x when saving a variant it was possible to decide, whether a value for the variable should be saved or not (via drop down boxes in the "Save All Variants" screen).
In Bex 7.x i just can set the variable value to blank, if i don't want a value to be saved. I have no more settings here, as in Bex 3.x.
As a consequence: i can set mandatory variables to blank in a 3.x query, when i set "Save Values" for this variable to "NO". In Bex 7.X i will always get an Error Message ("enter a value for variable XY") when selecting a variant with mandatory variable = blank.

Variant selection missing in BEx Broadcaster

I've created workbook in BEx Analyzer (2004s). Workbook has selection screen. I also created variants for workbook. I then went into BEx Broadcaster to distribute workbook. I don't see option to select variant that I created in Analyzer under workbook precalculation tab. I see only option for variable assignment which ask me to create new assignment.
I've used information broadcasting 3.5. It has option to enter variant under pre-calculation tab. Any idea why this option is missing in 70 BEx Broadcaster.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Broadcasting workbooks via variants is not available yet in BI 7.0.
According to version 14.1 (oct. 10) of the Functional Enhancements Schedule for BI this functionality will be delivered in 2nd half of 2008.
To find the document:
service.sap.com -> help & support -> release & upgrade info -> upgrade info.
Then in the navigation pane choose Solution-specific information -> SAP BI upgrade
The document is called Functional enhancements schedule BI in SAP NetWeaver 7.0
Check this doc regularly as new versions are uploaded frequently.

How to save a new value for Set command variable

I am using SET [variable = [String]] to update Set variable. It works fine. But when I restart MSDOS Prompt, I get old value for variable.
How to save a new value for SET command variable?
I am using Windows XP.

And this has to do with java how?

Variable Personalization setting is not allowed to change?

There is a setting in BW called variable Personalization which defaults per each user their variable selection upon query execution. Meaning if an End User ran a report for 3 vendors (VA, VB, VC) and refresh the query which would bring up the variable selection screen again these same Vendors would be pre-populated, which would make the end user have to delete these items if they wanted to run that query with a different selection criteria.
At the moment this Variable Personalization flag is check in Transaction SPRO in our BW. But there is a warning when we uncheck it with a msg "Action was not performed. Mark the checkbox.". Any idea on how to uncheck it?

Use
This activity is for activating personalization in BEx. You can personalize the following elements:
BEx history, so that the last report executed by you is saved.
Variables, so that certain variables selected by you are proposed.
Web applications, so that report drilldowns are saved.
Once personalization has been activated it cannot be deactivated again
The field Activate Conversion of InfoObject Values in the Transfer Rules has no connection with activation of personalization. It is here at the moment due to technical reasons. You can find more information about converting technical InfoObject values in the SAP Library, underBusiness Content -> Cross-Application Master Data -> Consolidated InfoObjects for BP, Product and Product Category -> ODS Objects -> Conversion of DataSource Field into InfoObject

How can I set a variable number of values in a SQL IN clause without having to change the text of the SQL statement each time?
I read the link http://radio.weblogs.com/0118231/2003/06/18.html. as steve wrote.
SELECT *
FROM EMP
WHERE ENAME IN (?)
But we need the steps not to create type in the system and would there be any other solution if we would like to use variable number of values in a SQL IN clause ?
We are using JDeveloper 10.1.3.2 with Oracle Database 10.1.3.2

Value set to make BEx variable faster (BW3.5)

This must be a simple problem, but I cant find any instruction on the web how to do this.
Ive got a BEx query on BW3.5 that has a variable as input, but when you click on the dropdown box, it takes extremely long to bring back a set of values.
Ive been told the way to get pass this problem is to define a pre-calculated value set in Reporting Agent.
I have done this, but cant get the query to use it.
What are the steps? It should be simple
Ive chosen the following options (which is not working)
Processing by: User entry / Default Value
Variable represents: Precalculated value set*
Variable entry is: Optional
Valueset: Z_MY_VALUE_SET
I dont think this is right, because this implies that the query automatically uses the value set as filter, instead of the users input.
What is happening, is that when the variable dialog opens up, it shows Z_MY_VALUE_SET as default value and when I open the dropdown it still takes long to retrieve the values.

i want to set a variable with default value and can be changed by the user, so i new a variable with setting : customer exit, single value, optional, ready for input.
in my customer exit code, i set a default value, eg. 20070530
when the variable screen popup, it display the default value 20070530, i changed it to 20070529, but it doesn't work , it still display the data in 20070530, how can i solve this problem?

As mentioned by Anil, you need to restrict your customerr Exit code to I_STEP = 1.

<u>Open your Variable in change mode, in the Last Page os the Variable Maintenance you can provide default value. Note: you are doing same thing in Customer Exit. In your case no need of Customer Exit.</u>

Netweaver 2004s Variant is missing many functionalities

In bw 3.5 we were able to pass on values maintained in a table through a variable and save in the variant. This feature and many others are not available in BI 7.0

I am not on 7.0 (aka 2004s)but I believe all the variable options are still available. Are you talking about BEx or Web? Web templates have changed and you may need to review your tempates and default template settings.
Help screen on variables n 7.0 seems the same to me

Get All Control Values [Variant] Method for Global Vars

Hello,
to get all the data of controls use in a VI, the methode "Get All Control Values [Variant]" can be used fine.
Is anything else available for gloabl variables which are use by this VI?

Yes, I tried to link this methode to the vi which contains the global vars but got the error message
"you cannot make a strict vi refernce to a global VIs.
Any other idea?

Report script - using substitution variable with multiple values

Hi All,
Substitution variable with multiple values is not working correctly with Report scripts. Can you please let me know what is the syntax to assign multiple values to a sub variable using maxl:
alter database samp.samp set variable 'ExtractQuarter' 'Q1,Q2,Q3,Q4';
alter database Samp.Samp set variable 'ExtractQuarter' 'Q1:Q4';
I tried both of the above but they are errored out with the below error:
Error: 1001005 - Unknown Member [Q1:Q4] in Report.
my requirement is different for both Actual and forecast data extract so i would like to make use of this variable to extract whole year data for Forecast and current quarter data for Actual with out duplicating the report scripts for both processes.

Presentation Variable - Display 'All Values' in Report Title

If I create a Dashboard Prompt and then set it equal to a Presentation Variable, I then display this Presentation variable in the report title. For the Dashboard Prompt I allow them the 'All Values' choice, in fact, this is the default.
The issue is displaying this in the Report Title, when it is 'All Value' nothing is display in the title, when they select a value such as 'Region D' then it works and this value will dispaly.
I looked at the documentation and it says you can use a default value, however, setting up that still does not work. It still is blank.
Has anyone seen this issue or know of a workaround? I'd like to have something like 'All Vales' display or is there a condition I could write to set this.

I have did the following in order to achieve your requirement:
As usual, create a request with a column prompted and a dashboard prompt containing that column and set the Presentation Variable (ex: varDept)... bla bla..
Placed them on the Dashboard to generate your issue, discussed...
Now, what I have did is:
1. Created one more Request with the column used on Prompt and specified the Formula to it as:
CASE WHEN '@{Dept}'||'A'='A' THEN 'All Departments' ELSE '@{Dept}' END
Note: Take 2 same columns (and hide one) because we are using above formula which does not contains the Column from any table.
2. Created Narrative View and referenced the above Column.. @2 (in my case).. and specify 1 in 'Rows to Display' field. Do the formatting as required viz., specifying Font size, family....
3. Place this request in between the Prompt and First Request..
Now, you can able to see 'All Departments' if 'All Choices' is selected.

Item Values Not Set - Dynamic SQL Fails to Parse.

(By simply defining some page computations I was able to set the item values to some default. Please don't feel the need to reply :-))
I have a page consisting of 5 report parameters and a report, all in one region, 4 parameters are LOVs and one is a text field which in the query are all compared to table column values. The report region type is SQL Query(PL/SQL function body returning SQL Query).
If I load the page in a new session with default values for the LOVs as '%' and a null text field, I get the following error message:-
failed to parse SQL query:
ORA-00936: missing expression
If I examine the session state, I see that none of the parameter values are set, which is probably why the dynamic sql is failing.
If I set one of the parameters to something, eg. choose another value in an LOV or type some text in the text field, and re-run the report, it executes without error.
What's the easiest way to fix this, is it to set the page items to some specific values when the page is first loaded? If so how do I do that? I'm not having much luck creating some process to do it.
All help appreciated.

Hi,
for saving variants to the selection screen,
1. Enter the values in the selection screen.
2. Click on the button GOTO.
3. Goto VARIANTS and click SAVE AS VARIANTS.
4. Write the name of variant and the meaning. It may be whatever u want to write.
5. Click the SAVE button.
6. Variant is created.
You can see the sign near the execution butoon on selection screen.

in my trace file 20 queries.
I alse set this parameter in session level.
alter session set events '10046 trace name context forever, level 4';
but still showing traceoutput file bind variable.
Pls help its very urgent

Can you post the query for which the bind variable values are not being shown and the trace output for the same?
Probably it is listed down somewhere when you actually executed the query among the others. Try completely analyzing your trace file..

'save site as template' missing SP2013

I would like to save my webpart page as a template. The problem is that i don't see "save site as template" anywhere on this site. On another site i've created the "save site as template" is visible.
What could be the problem? I think i activated the necessary features.

Open the site in SharePoint Designer, in the home page, Click on “Site Options”, you will get prompt, In the “Parameters”
Tab, you can find “SaveSiteAsTempalteEnabled”, set it to true.
