Variable Screen in Analyzer 7.0

Dear All,
I am facing a peculiar problem with the variable screen.
The problem is even though I define the variables to be of type Interval or Selection Options, when I execute the query It shows the variable but allows on single entry.
But I do not have any issues in RSRT.
This is the following Analyzer I am using.
BI AddOn 7.X (based on 7.10)
Support Package 7
Revision 571.
Please let me know how to solve this issue.
Cheers,
Neel

Dear Leo,
Could you please check and let me know whether the Support Pack 9 is on Business Explorer Side or BI Side.
If possible could you please open your Bex Analyzer and from the Bex Tool Bar click on Application Help --> About and let me know the exact details.
Thanks in Advance.
Cheers,
Neel.

  • Variable screen not popping up in BEx Analyzer

    Experts,
I'm facing a wierd situation while executing queries in 3.5 BEx Analyzer. When the query is executed using 3.5 BEx Analyzer varibale screen does not pop and report strats running wide open. The Varible input is optional. But if  the report in executed using Web (From the 3.5 Query Designer) variable screen pops up. This happens with the same user ID.
Please let me know if you have any ideas, could this be something realted to authorizations. In the meantime, i'm trying to change the varibale to mandatory and see if the variable screen pops up.
    Thanks

    Hello
The standard behavior is not show the variable screen if it has no mandatory variables. In the webtemplate you may have the parameter forcing to show the variable screen added in the code. It is something like  "force variable screen". Please check if you can see that parameter.

  • Variable Screen Does Not Display in Bex Web Analyzer after first time

We recently upgraded from BW 3.1 to BW 7.0 (without upgrading specifically to 3.5).  We are having a problem with our Web Bex Analyzer not showing the variable screen although the variable screen is displayed successfully when running the same query from the Bex Analyzer.  Based on feedback from other posts regarding similar topics, we modified the 0analysis_pattern template to ensure that Display Variable Screen was checked on.  We are finding that when we open the Web Bex Analyzer and do a New Analysis, the first query we try to run will always have the variable screen displayed successfully.  Any susbsequent queries we try to run by clicking on New Analysis in that same open window will not show the variable screen and will start executing open ended.  This is occurring regardless of whether the query has mandatory or optional variables and we have confirmed that there is no personalization set for the variables being used.  We have tried it with several different queries and the results are consistent.  The first query you run shows the variable screen successfully and any queries run after that do not.  Any help in resolving this would be greatly appreciated as we have exhausted our resources researching and troubleshooting this problem.

We did open an OSS note and heard back from SAP.  We made the recommended setting, see their response below, but as they stated, it will only show variable screens for queries that have at least one mandatory variable entry after the first query is opened.
    Response from SAP:
Please check if the following setting is made within your template --
In the 'Standard Actions' of the Web Template, do you have the setting
'Action Before First Display' set to OPEN_VARIABLE_DIALOG
The behaviour of the variable screen is different if you use mandatory
variables and optional variables. If you have only optional variables,
the Display Variable does not force the variable screen.
Also, using the parameter VARIABLE_SCREEN=X only influences the
web application at STARTUP. This would not come into affect when you
use the 'New Analysis' button. This button resets the dataprovider so
this would not affect the variable screen and would not redisplay the
    variable screen as you require.

  • Variable screen not seen when running BEx Analyzer

    Hi Gurus,
when i execute my query in BEx Analyzer for some reason i dont see my variable screen and it gives me a message saying variable values not entered. If i run the same report in RSRT i do get my variable screen. It was all find till yesterday and for some strange reason i dont get to see my variable screen.
    Can anyone help me
    Surya

    What version are you on?
Did you try resetting personalized variables? You may have hit that by mistake, happens a lot here. Not sure that would be the case with no values entered however.

  • BEx analyzer variable screen Copy  and paste the input values functionality

    Hi all,
in bw 3.5 we have functionality on the variable screen we can do directly copy the values and paste in the input screen. But in BI 7.0 BEx analyzer I am not able to find it. Is it required to apply any patches?
    Please guide me on this.
    Thanks

    Hello All,
We have a similar issue only in 2004s query designer when we execute a query via the web. We have the variable set up to accept multiple single values and we can pick multiple single values and add them, however, we cannot paste a list of, for example, personnel numbers from an excel spreadsheet into the web selection box to add multiple single values at one time.  Does this functionality exist?

  • User Entry in variable screen in BEX analyzer

If we open a query in the Bex analyzer (BI 7.0), it seems only possible for us to enter variables in the dialog screen after the pushbuttons Ctrl + K for each variable. Is it possible to change the default setting in the BEx analyser variable screen, so that the variables are ready for input (without the ctrl + k)?
Looking for any help on this.
    Thanks,
    Joe

    Hi Joe,
We recently went though the same issue. You need to install the last patch for SAP GUI (Patch 4) and the BEx 7.0 Front End (Patch 2). After you install them all variables will be ready for input without the need of using CRTL + K. We got the installer files from our basis team the names are GUI710_4-10002995.EXE and BI710SP02P_201-10004472.EXE.
I will work for sure !!!

  • Bex analyzer variable screen input ready?

    Hi Experts,
If we open a query in the Bex analyzer (BI 7.0 – netweaver 2004s), it seems only possible for us to enter variables in the dialog screen after the pushbuttons Ctrl + K for each variable.  Is it possible to change the default setting in the BEx analyser variable screen, so that the variables are ready for input (without the ctrl + k)?
In the SAPhelp information, only the following information is provided.
    Prerequisites
In the BEx Analyzer, you have executed a query that contains variables and you want to change or personalize one or all of the variables in the query.
    Procedure
    1.      In the analysis toolbar, choose Change Variable Values or in the menu, choose BEx Analyzer ® Change Variable Values.
The Select Values for Variables dialog box appears. Follow the instructions to select a value to assign to the variable.
    2.      Specify a variant name and values for the variables for which you want to change the current values.
Switch to display mode or use the pushbuttons Ctrl + K to enter values.
    Kind regards
    Dennis

  • Analyzer variable screen location

    Hi everybody,
Our BEx Analyzer users have been complaining about the location of the variable screen when opening certain workbook. The query used by the workbook has 18 variables and as a result, the lower part of the variable screen is located outside users display. Therefore users have to drag the variable screen up before they can click the "Check", "Cancel" and "OK" buttons. I know, it's a hindrance barely worth mentioning, but our users are really picky.
So, is there a way to change the position of the variable screen? I tried to find a workbook macro that would create the variable screen but apparently it is not generated with macros. Nore did I find anything from the workbook settings. Any ideas?
    Regards,
    Ran-Dom

    Hi Paul,
I am also facing exactly the same problem as you were facing. Could you please tell, whether your problem got solved? If yes, then would you please provide the solution for the same?
    Thanks in advance,

  • BEx  Analyzer 3.x after 2004S Upgrade - Variable Screen

The variable screen has changed when using BEx Analyzer 3.x after upgrading to 2004S.  Is there an option to go back to the original version?  We are doing a "technical upgrade only" this weekend to our production system and did not want to impact our users in any way at this time.  There was a thread that started out asking about this issue but then switched to discussions about the Query Designer and the variable screen question was never answered.
    Thank you for your help.

Yes, I can access RRMX.  However our users cannot.  They log on through Citrix directly to BEx Analyzer 3.x.  When I use transaction RRMX, it takes me to BEx Analyzer 2004S.
Is there any way for our users to access the old variable screen using BEx Analyzer 3.x?  And if not, is there any documentation anywhere on the new variable screen that is being used for 3.x after technically upgrading to 2004S?
    Thank you -

  • BEx Analyzer Query Selection Variable Screen Issue

We are in the process of applying support packs to our system--BI7.01 and we are going from SP04 to SP10.  After the application of support packs, when we execute a query (or a workbook with attached query), the query variable screen that normally appears does not, the query just executes without being able to filter/enter selection criteria.
We are using BEx Analyzer 3.5--long story about not upgrading to BEx 7.x.  In our systems without support packs, the queries/workbook execute as expected.  I've tried making a variable mandatory in one of the queries as a test and the selection screen then appears; however, we have hundreds of queries.
I've searched SDN and OSS and have found some similar issues, but not a solution.  Any help is greatly appreciated.  Thanks.
    Norris

    Hello Michael,
Thanks for the informationit's funny as I think I was stumbling upon this notegoing support pack by support pack--when you posted it.
We applied to our development system and we are now getting the selection screens, so it does appear to resolve the situation.  Thanks again for the information.

  • BEx Analyzer variable screen not showing for user

    Hello,
I have a BEx query that shows the variable screen to enter the query parameters when I run the query but when the user runs it, he is not given the variable screen and therefore cannot enter the variables.  Both the user and myself are running the query in BEx Analyzer (Excel).
The user is new to BEx.  Is there perhaps some security or role setting that needs to be changed?  Something else?
Thanks in advance for your help!

  • NW 2004s Bex Analyzer Variable screen Vs 3.X Bex Analyzer

    Hi,
In 3.X, if you select refresh for a workbook having multiple queries, then the function refreshes all queries and the system displays the variable screen for each query in the workbook.
In NW 2004s, if i have the same workbook and refreshing the workbook will display only one variable screen having all the variables all the queries are using.
This is good. <b>Except</b> <i>for refreshing workbook which is already having different "material number" in different queries.</i>
In this scenario how do we refresh the workbook and keep the material number different for the queries the workbook is using. The variable screen in NW 2004s will show only one variable "material number" and assigning a material number will change the workbook
<i>(Implies both the queries will be using same material number after refresh-hence unable to keep the workbook same)</i>
    We are on <b>SPS 8/FEP 801.</b>
We applied the note <b>953402</b> (variables are displayed when you  refresh all queries)
After applying the note we added ANALYZER-VARIABLE_REFRESH_3X=X in the RSADMIN table.
Still in NW 2004s, only one VARIABLE SCREEN is displayed will all the variables the query is using.
Please let me know if any information is available.
    Thankyou,
    -Sini

    Hi,
We applied to OSS NOTE # 953402 inorder to prompt the varaible like 3.X. This note did not do anything. Please advice if any other note is available or not.
Having a common or (one) variable screen is difficult to maintain. I had lot of problem trying to keep a workbook same as in 3.X. Diificult to perform workbook conversion.
    Example:
I am performing workbook conversion. This workbook which I am trying to convert has multi queries.
In one query it shows material number starting with say for eg: BA, CB and no restriction is given for cal year/month and this query has plan version as mandatory variable. (NOTE: no hierarchy)
Other query has hierarchy for material number and the hierarchy shows material starting with BA01* and cal/year restricted to 01/2006 and 02/2006.
When I convert the workbook from 3.X to 2004s
1.) hierarchy drilldown icon disappears when I open the workbook in NW 2004s Analyzer
2.) Inorder to get the drilldown icon back I clicked on "refresh" which doesn't not work consistenly.
So I always click on "variable" icon and entered the values for the mandatory variable (plan version) and assigned hierarchy (XYZ).
3.) After executing it, both of my query shows hierarchy.
4.) I turned off hierarchy in one of query, set filter value for material number to  BA, CB.....( NOTE: Inorder to turn off the hierarchy I have to first deactivate it and then refresh it to make it work.
NOTE: later I was unable to turn it ON.
5.) The other query has hierarchy orginally(before conversion) it has 3 level drilldown and after converting it just has only one level drilldown. ( I was not able to get the original one back. I was able to filter it my material number say BA01* and cal year.
RESULT: Unable to make the workbook indentical to 3.X. Conversion was not that succesfull.
    NOTE:
    1. The hierarchy activation/deactivation does not work properly.
    2. For eg: Select filter value for material number, the text/key shows the expected value. But If I search for those values I do not get the result. The search on material with hierarchy does not seems to work properly.
Please let me know if you need any further details and also let me know if there any OSS Note available.
    Thankyou,
    -Sini

  • Issue with Data Provider name in variable screen for BEx Analyzer

    Hello all,
We got an issue with Data Provider name in Variable screen in BEx Analayzer.
We want to change the DataProvider name there to Description of the report instead of its Technical name.
    Any inputs are appreciated.
    Thanks
    Kumar

You have to create a workbook to do this.
Refresh your query/report. In Bex analyser, there is one toolbar named BEx design toolbox, If you are not able to see it in analyser, right click on the toolbar space of BEx analyser and click on BEx design toolbox. Here, goto to design mode, by clicking on a sysbol like 'A'. after that place the curser where you want to see the Query description. and click on insert text (T) in BEx toolbox. click on it and check "Query description" in constant tab. in the general tab you need to assign a dataprovider, for that assign your query name in workbook settings (in Bex design toolbox). also check the "display caption" in general tab.

  • BeX Analyzer Variable screen takes long time

    Hello,
    Recently migrated 3.5 workbooks/queries to 7x.
When clicking on 'Change Variable values' button, the variable pop up screen takes about 10 seconds to appear for some users.
It takes somewhere between 30-40 seconds for some users...
All users are in same patch level. In 3x all users were experiencing same time delays.
But from 7x it has got worse. Now we are on 730 release, Patch 7.
Searched forums and SAP Notes. Didnt get any good solutions.
Some said clearing %tmp% files helps. It works for 1 or 2 users only. Its not the solution.
    Any other solutions please?
    Thanks

The problem is not associated with the selection/results.
Problem is the time it takes to bring up the variable screen itself.
    Thanks

  • NW 2004s Bex Analyzer Variable screen problem

Our BW system was upgraded from 3.1 to NW 2004s (SPS 8/FEP 9).
When we refresh the query in the workbook that has multiple queries, then the variable screen displays the variables from all queries.
For example: Query 1 has Posting Period single value variable, Query 2 - Posting Periods interval variable. When Query 1 is refreshed, the Variable input screen will display both variables - Posting Period single value variable and Posting Periods interval variable.
Please let me know if you need any further details and if there are any OSS notes available.
    Thank you,
    Elena.

    Hello Prakash
In BW 3.5 we had, if we have a Workbook with more than one Query, while refresh, if our cursor used to be outside the Query area, then it used to ask "Do you want to refresh all Queries on Workbook", if we say, it used to refresh all the Queries,  by Promting Variable Screen multiple times.
"Melt" kind of function in this case should help.
But do we have method to refresh one query of the sheet only and not rest of them. I am afraid you may say no. But thought to recheck at least once more.
