Variable Sequence Dimension

I'm contemplating upgrading to CS4. Is it still the case that all sequences in a project have to be the same dimension? That's one restriction I would love to see go away :)

CS4 allows you to create each seq with different frame sizes / sequence settings. Which in turn also allows new functionality of importing individual sequences from other projects, rather than entire projects.

I have created the new query with selection variables in BEX (BI 7). Now I want to change the sequence of the variable selection. But there are no variables at variable sequence in query property. Please any suggestions.

Dear Ravi,
while defining a variable,,
u have an option like READY FOR INPUT.
u should tick that check box..
unless and until u check that box,,..that variable will not pop up or visible in the query designer..

Variable Sequence issue

Dear All,
I have situation where I have 3 work books in a query. I have variable sequence A,B,C,D,E in the query properties set now when open the workbook I am getting the sequence as A C E B D. I am confused why would this happen as the sequence should be same as the order set in the query properties.
I have checked all 3 queries of these 3 work books have same sequence ABCDE in the query properties.
can any please advise why would this happen and how can I rectify this quickly

Hi Santhosh,
Try to log on to individual queries, delete and recreate one of the variables, arrange the variable sequence and check it by executing the queries individually. Finally if all the queries are showing the same sequence then try to execute your workbook.
It should work. Please provide any further details if it doesnt work.

WAD problem with query variable sequence

Hi Everyone,
I have created 3 Queries of which all of them have common but different number of selection variables
eg: query 1 : A, B,C,D,E
Query 2: D
Query 3: C
I need to display the variables in WAD as displayed in Query 1.But they are displaying randomly.
For this I arranged the variable sequence of Query 1 in the query designer using the menu path
Query -> Properties and in the right panel select the "Variable sequence" tab
But,it is still picking randomly.
Is there any other option either in Query or WAD Designer?

Assuming you want to change the sequence of Selection variables of the Query.
Goto Properties of the Query beside "Execute" button, in the right panel, you will find " Variable Sequence" tab, here you can arrange sequence of variables. Use the up and down arrow button to move up or down as you require.

Variable Sequence when using multiple queries

Hi Experts,
how can I adjust the variable sequence of a workbook that uses multiple queries (with variables of which each exists in at least two included queries)?
E.g.:
DP1 with variable sequence "A, B, D"
DP_2 with variable sequence "A, C, D"
DP_3 with variable sequence "B, C"
I want "A, B, C, D" as the sequence for the workbook but i did not figure out how to adjust this.
I already tried to insert a dummy DataProvider that holds all variables in the right sequence.. No success..
Any help very appreciated!

I wonder how the displayed sequence of the common variables is derived from the underlying queries. Perhaps one can change the sequence of the variables by inserting the DataProviders in another sequence?!

Variable Sequence in the report

Hello...I created some variable in the query designer and identify the sequence I wanted in the query designer like below:
1) calendar month
2) org unit
and when i view the report, the sequence of the variabe in the report is not the same, it shows as below
1) org unit
2) calendar month
any idea why the results is different from the one in the query designer? thanks alot

GO to Query Designer>select your query>goto properties-->select Variable sequence Tab. You can set the sequence according to your order.

the sequence can be determined in the query level.
but if multiple query user in workbook or web template, there is a logic defined in a note 1060735.
regarding workbook Note 1416277 is describing a error correction.

No, you can't. FCE is a fixed resolution editing application, DV or HDV.

Order of variables in a Planning sequence.

Hi,
We have a problem now where we are unable to control the sequence (the order) of which our variables are presented when executing a planning sequence in I.P.
An example (ok, it's a bit long...):
We have created a Planning function of type Distribution by Key. We are distributing Amount FROM Period '#' TO 12 months (period 1- 12).
For each of these 12 periods we have a Variable for each month where the user can enter a value to represent the % (or share) of the Amount of '#' to be distributed to that month.
In our Planning Function we have then put in the respective periods (1-12) in to "distribute to"-field, in the correct order (January, february, march, april, may...etc).
Finally, we have put this Function in a Planning sequence, and added it to a button in our Web template.
When pressing this button to execute the planning sequence, the variables come out in a different order to what we expect, and what we have said in the planning function.
First, three variables from our Filter (which is as expected, and Ok),
Then the 12 months, in an incorrect order (January, March, February...).
So for some reason, Feb and March exchange places.
So, the question: What is it that decides the order of how variables are presented when a planning function is executed?
We have tried creating new variables, changing the technical names etc, but we can not see any logic to how the variable sequence is presented.

Hi,
Instead of giving 12variables to enter % share, you can give input layout wherein user enter the share% for all the periods, store this in one keyfigure. Use this figure as reference for distribution function.
You can try this if this seems ok to you.

I have a WebTemplate with 2 dataproviders (queries). One query has following order of variables set in query properties (using query designer):
A
B
C
Second query does not have A variable, and has following order of variables:
B
C
What I am getting when run the webtemplate is:
B
C
A
when I am actually interested in
A
B
C
Can anybody help <b>to setup the variables sequence in the webtemplate</b>?
I am on BW 3.0B, WAD 3.0B Patch 6.

I think we can maintain the order of selection variable at the Bex Query Level in the properties Window of Querry ( Sequence of Entry Variables) and the same will appear in Web.

Recordeset per message with variable recordset sequence?

I'm uploading a text-file with three different recordset substructures in any number and in variable sequence. I.e. a file could look like below:
structure 1
structure 1
structure 3
structure 2
structure 1
structure 3
structure 1
Thus the File adapter settings are as follows:
Recordset Structure = structure 1,,structure 2,,structure 3.*
Recordset Sequence = Variable
This works fine, the problem is the file is huge and I would like to limit the number of records in each message by using the recordset per message parameter. But if you have a variable recordset sequence the whole message is regarded as one recordset. If I change to ascending sequence I get an unpredictable number of messages since a recordset change is only done every time the file "breaks the order" defined in the Recordset Structure. Basically I want each record to be regarded as a recordset so I can split the file up with a predictable number of record per message. Is there any work around possible?

if we say structure 1 as "A" structure 2 as "B" structure 3 as "C" and with sequence as variable then "regular expressions" reprsented as
(ABC).
any combination at file structure comes as a message or as you say single record at sender side.
if you really want to break the records and conquer where order is not important,
that is A record ,B record, C record are independent of each other at XI processing then go for 3 FILE ADAPTERS and 3 different message structures as A* 2)B* 3)C*.
this will definitely result in controlling message load at XI .
but can say for sure that there can be no replacement for (ABC) since it results in various combinations of A,B,C for example take computer language set it is (10)* and your is (ABC) there by its very diffciult to break this structure equivalent to some structure which meets your requirement.
and also no meaning of breaking it as (AB)* or any combination,
we will end no where if we look for replacement for (ABC),
what can we do is go for independent structures or limit Structure order at FILE mean
atleast (ABC)* or (ABC) .

Filter (variable) applied at analytical view is not reflected in Caculation view.

I am new to hana and would like to discuss one issue here.
Model is something like this:
Calculation view ---- > has one Analytical View ---> has one attribute view and a fact table.
Now, in analytical view I have applied a filter using a variable on dimension attribute ( column of attribute view). When I do data preview on analytical view I get a prompt (asking single value to put in - mandatory). However when I do a data preview for calculation view (which involves analytical view created earlier) ...I don't get a prompt this time.
Calculation view is a 2 level only [ semantic --> projection/aggregation(analytical view) ].
Please assist with it.

It seems like this approach is applicable for "Input Parameters" only and not for "Variable" ?
I created a variable & an Input parameter in Analytical view, and created same variable & input parameter in calculation view...and then clicked on "Input parameter managed mapping" button under section "Variables/Input parameters" of semantics. I could see only Input parameters listed on both sides not the variables.
1. I am curious now to understand ...when it is recommended that the data needs to be filtered out at the lowest level...however we still need to define parameters at calculation level ?
2. The prompt based filters applied at analytical view is getting reflected in calculation view when it(calculation view) is refreshed for data preview ?
3. Is it possible to expose analytical or attribute view directly into the business objects universe ?

How to change sequence settings without CC 7.1 update?

Well, i was hoping that Adobe will release 7.1 update on October 15th, as promised on some websites. I don't recall, maybe it was Creative COW or any other.
That's why i have created 720p PRORES proxies for 9x multi-camera live performance shoot which lasts for 2 hours for lag free, fast editing.
I have sucessfully edited it and promised my clients that on October 16th they will get the whole show in 1080p, high quality.
So, there is no update yet, and yes, i can relink files to original 1080p, but the multicam sequence is capped to 720p and i simply can't find a way to change it's size.
The old fashion copy/paste way from one sequence to another does not work, since 720p sequence is linked to multicam edits. In CS6 i could edit ".prproj" file in text editor to change any properties (including sequence properties), but right now in CC, .prproj file contains binary data only, so i can't do it that way either.
Maybe someone knows any other way to change sequence settings right now, or what is the exact day for 7.1 release?

You need to extract your .prproj using WinRAR to a text .prproj file, then use some text editor such as Notepad to search and replace sequence dimensions
For example find "1920" and replace it to "1280" if it looks like Īt belongs to a sequence definition.
I don't recall how it was called, maybe "VideoFrameRect" or something similar.
First create some very simple project to experiment with, and always make a backup copy in case something goes wrong

Substitution Variable in WA error

Hi there,
We have moved our server's IP beacuse we promoted developement (server07) to production (server08). Prior to that all reports worked fine. Now we're having some problems with the Substitution Variables, because everytime we select them, to include them in a report, it displays the following error:
*"Actual_Month is not a valid substitution variable for dimension Period"*
In fact I've tried to create a new variable with a new name and I get the same error. What intrigues me is that if we use the same variable for Dynamic Time Series let's say Y-T-D(Actual_Month) it works and displays a value.
Maybe is there something in the connection but still with no clue how to fix it. Any database or setting at the config file to set?

I don't know about PL/SQL developer but in sqlplus you need single quotes around the variable.
