Variables in a view

Hi
I had a query customer exit variables (Values will be derived based on user entry date)
I generated 4 views from the query to use them in Web Template (Dashboard Graphs reports)......
When i execute the report it is prompting me variable screen and query is working fine
But where as when i execute report it is not asking me for any variables and the values are not refreshed they are fixed to the time when we created it.
Do i need to make any kind of setting
(I executed the report in analyzer and save it as Global View)
Please update

Hi,
I've the same problem.
My variable is well defined with "Ready for Input" option but it don't works.
When I open my query (in hte BEX for example) the variable screen appears.
But when I make the same with my query view, it don't refresh on open. I juste have the last refresh.
So when I try to integrate my view in the WAD, my query view is never refreshed.
Have you find the solution ?
How can I specify that my query view has to refresh on open ?

  • Using a variable in a view?

    I know that it may not be possible to use a variable within a view, but I'm wondering if there isn't a work-around? If there is a single value---pulled from another table---you wish to reuse in a view that does not use dynamic SQL, how do you do so? I've been toying around with WITH statements, but that's getting me nowhere. I'm using 11r2.
    BTW, please do not ask me the standard litany of angry-dba questions (why are you doing this? your database is f*****, RTFM, etc.), this is just for my own curiosity. :)
    Thank you
    Example for demo purposes only (I know it's not syntactically correct):
    variable var_value varchar2(30)
    begin
    select this_is_just_one_value
    int :var_value
    from tableX where column1 = 'BOB';
    end;
    select
    numerous_columns
    from tableY
    where
    column5 = :var_value;

    SQL is not a procedural language - so you cannot create a view for example that has a parameter signature. E.g. this is possible in a procedural language:
    declare
            cursor c( deptID number ) is
                    select * from emp where deptno = deptID;
    begin
            open c( 1234 ); --// open SQL cursor using a parameter/variable
            --// etc..
            close c;
    end;This is not possible using a SQL object like a view. As a view is not a procedure. So the same approach as the above using SQL (silly example, but do demonstrates the basics):
    // define
    create or replace view emp_view as select * from emp;
    // use
    select * from emp_view where deptno = 1234;The CBO is clever - and it will likely push such a predicate into the emp_view SQL statement.
    To parameterise such a view, is ugly. And should only be considered when dealing with issues such as security and data restrictions. A context is created - this can contain a number of name-values. The view can then use a name-value from the context. Oracle's data dictionary views use this approach.

  • How can i call another view variables in another view

    how can i call another view variables in another view and pass that variables to the function
    my situation is i have a view FAC which i need to pass par_id_fac TO THE VIEW AGR.AFTER THAT i what to take start_dt in agr view and par_id_fac from Fac and pass this variables to the function i have check the documentation but does not do what i what,the doc simply talk about creating variables and pass then to function.i what to pass variables from the views and return value to my contractno Variables value
    something like if :agr.contract_no is null
    and :agr.agr_start_dt is not null then
         :agr.contract_no := sms_fapp.get_contract_no(:fac.par_id_fac,:agr.agr_start_dt);

  • How to pass parameter [bind variable or substitution variable] to a view?

    How can I pass a parameter [bind variable or substitution variable] to a view in Oracle?
    Some will tell me that this is not necessary, that I can only pass the parameter when I query the view, but I found some case where this cause performance issue. In long view where I use subquery factoring [WITH], it's necessary to pass the parameter many time through different subqueries and not only to the resulting view.
    In other database (SQL Server, Access), we can pass parameters through query. I can't find how to do that in Oracle. Can some one tell me what is the approach suggest by Oracle on that subject?
    Thank you in advance,
    MB
    What I can do:
    CREATE VIEW "HR"."EMP_NAME" ("FIRST_NAME", "LAST_NAME")
    AS
    SELECT FIRST_NAME, LAST_NAME FROM EMPLOYEES;
    What I want to do:
    CREATE VIEW "HR"."EMP_NAME" ("FIRST_NAME", "LAST_NAME")(prmEMP_ID)
    AS
    SELECT FIRST_NAME, LAST_NAME FROM EMPLOYEES WHERE EMPLOYEE_ID IN (:prmEMP_ID);

Views are a form of dynamic SQL and it is hard to predict how they will perform later.
    You can't pass parameters to a view. They are not functions. The mechanism to put the values in is what you mentioned, passing the parameter when you query the view.
    In other database (SQL Server, Access), we can pass parameters through query. I can't find how to do that in Oracle. Can some one tell me what is the approach suggest by Oracle on that subject? This functionality is not supported.
    What I can do:
    CREATE VIEW "HR"."EMP_NAME" ("FIRST_NAME", "LAST_NAME")
    AS
    SELECT FIRST_NAME, LAST_NAME FROM EMPLOYEES;
    What I want to do:
    CREATE VIEW "HR"."EMP_NAME" ("FIRST_NAME", "LAST_NAME")(prmEMP_ID)
    AS
    SELECT FIRST_NAME, LAST_NAME FROM EMPLOYEES WHERE EMPLOYEE_ID IN (:prmEMP_ID);Include the bind value when you use the view in a SELECT. The value will be applied to the view at run-time, somthing like
    CREATE  VIEW "HR"."EMP_NAME_VW" ("FIRST_NAME", "LAST_NAME","EMPLOYEE_ID")(prmEMP_ID)
    AS  SELECT FIRST_NAME, LAST_NAME FROM EMPLOYEES;
    select *
      from emp_name_vw
      WHERE EMPLOYEE_ID IN (:prmEMP_ID);To use EMPLOYEE_ID I added it to your list of columns in the view so it can be referenced in the WHERE clause. If you don't want to see that value don't select it from the view.

  • Help to use presentation variables in title view

    Hi,
    I am trying to use presentation variables in title view and the presntation variable that I have created is for current month date range (04/01/2012-04/30/2012)
    When I am using this variable in the title view in the report it is showing me as (04/01/2012,04/30/2012)
    IS there any way to get the date range as 04/01/2012-04/30/2012 instead of comma

Click on this link for the details on how to create the two prompts and use them in your report.

  • How to share a bind variable across multiple view objects?

    Hi, Can someone tell me if it's possible to share a bind variable among multiple view objects within an application module? My web page displays data from different VOs on different regions. But all data should be controlled by the same bind variable, which appears in all queries. How can I achieve this?
    Please help.

    Best to state your JDev version, and technology stack (eg. ADF BC) when posting.
    I can think of 2 approaches.
    1) Create a parent VO based on SELECT :bindVar FROM dual, then create links between your other VOs and the parent
    2) Create a AM client interface method that programatically sets the bind variable in each VO.
    Can you specify your use case? This one tends to come up when discussing effective from/to dated queries.

  • Passing Variables from one View to another

    First of all Hi this is my first post on the sap forums.
    Aplogies if I have come to the wrong place or if this question is very easy, but I am new to abap and web dynpro and have found myself struggling a little bit.  So I stumbled across this site and thought I would ask for help.
    My problem is this, I have 2 variables on my MAIN view, one called MONTH and the other called YEAR.  What I want to do is on a button click on the MAIN view pass the values of these variables to another view called SUMMARY_RPT and then use these variables in an SQL query I have on this view.
    Anybody out there that can help ?
    Many Thanks,
    George

    Hi George,
    Welcome to webdynpro abap community. To pass data from one view to another, you can should create two attributes (type string) in the attribute tab of of the component controller. Now these will act as global variable for you. Now you can access these attribute in your view in this way:
    wd_comp_controller->gv_val "gv_val is the name of the attribute
    Populate the value in it and use it anywhere you want.
    There is one more way to do the same.
    Create a node under context in component controller and create 2 attributes(type string) after that. Map this node to both the views. Now get the value of month , year and set these attribute with the same values with the help of code wizard in view 1. Now in the view2 simply read those attribute and you'll get the value of month and year which was entered in the first view. Read the attribute with the help of code wizard. Now you can use them accordingly.
    I would suggest you to use 1st method as it is better performance wise.
    I hope it helps.
    Regards
    Arjun

  • OLAP AWM 10.2 Variable names: Object view

    In the AWM we see a number of variables in object view e.g. below. Where can we find additional documentation or information about what these various objects represent eg.._PRT_TOPVAR represents cube. Please advise.
    <cubename>PRTTOPVAR
    <cubename>_COMPOSITE
    <cubename>PRTMEASDIM
    <cubename>PRTTOPFRML

    <cubename>PRTTOPVAR -> This is partition top variable which holds data.
    <cubename>_COMPOSITE
    <cubename>PRTMEASDIM -> This is a dimension object which hold the name of the measures you have in your cube. If you limit this to a particular measure and report on PRTTOPVAR then you will get value for only one measure instead of all.
    <cubename>PRTTOPFRML -> This is partition top formula which is used while reporting. If you want that the cube should use a custom aggmap then you have to change the PRTTOPFRM to point to the custom aggmap.

  • Session Variable in filter view error

    Hello,
    My prompt is defaulted to current 12Weeks. I used session variable in the prompt to capture 12 Weeks (Current Week and Current+12).
    so the default value is @{biServer.variables['NQ_SESSION.PERIOD_STDATE']} where PERIOD_STDATE is my session varible.
    I am using a filter view to display the filters being applied.
    When the user opens a tab, the filter view is throwing error
    ***The syntax of the expression to be evaluated is invalid.***
    ***Expression: @{biServer.variables['NQ_SESSION.PERIOD_STDATE']}***
    My report is running fine. I just have the date column as prompted in my report request.
    When the user hits go button on the prompt then the filter view comes up just fine.
    What is that I am doing wrong? Why does the filter view gives result after hitting GO button?
    Please help.
    thanks,
    deep

    Hi,
    1. Set the default using logical SQL. Select <presentation table>.<presentation column> from <subject area> where <presentation table>.<presentationation column> =valueof(NQ_SESSION.<session variable>)
    2. You dont have to write the exact syntax for entering the session variable in the default values. You just need to use the session variable name after selecting the session variable type in the drop down.
    Hope this helped/ answered.

  • Dynamically assign value to bind variable in a view object before pageload

    I found that it is extreamely hard to find an example to assign the bind variable in View object at runtime using a data attribute defined in Human task activity. Most of the available samples use a Literal value to do the assignment. In my case, I want to dynamically display the content by assigning the data attribute in Human task to the bind variable in view object before a pageload.
    I do not want to bind the view object to some command component to click a button or link in order to make it work (Unnecessary components in my page).
    The issue is how to access the data attribute in Human task in the java code of client interface in AppModule? or is there a way that I can access the data attribute in Groovy script expression of the bind variable? or if I can access the process data object defined in my BPM process to do the assignment at runtime?
    Really need help on the issue, and I cannot believe that it is so hard to accomplish.

  • Global Variable in Single View

    Hello All,
    Can anyone help me out .
    How to decalre a variable which can be available in all methods in a same view,without using context attribute .As I have a view and I have to pass value between methods of a single view.
    Thanks in Advance
    Regards,
    Kiran

    Hi ,
    Instead of context attribute , you can declare the variable in the the ' Attributes ' tab
    suppose
    a variable LV_CLASSIFICATION1  and you can give the type associated with it .
    You can acess the variable in methods of view like this
       lv_classification = wd_this->lv_classification1.
    where lv_classification is a variable used in the method .
    Hope this would sort your problem.

    i am using JDeveloper 11g, i have to create LOV in the JSF. To show the LOV, it has to populate data using View object and its query parameter need to be sent from the Managed Bean.
    For the View object i want to set the bind variable parameter from the managed bean value. bename is stored in a managed bean (session scope)
    #{beantest.bename}
    But it gives the following exception.
    JBO-29000: Unexpected exception caught:
    org.codehaus.groovy.control.MultipleCompilationErrorsException,msg=startup failed, Script1.groovy: 1: expecting '!',found '{'@ line1, column 2.
    I have followed the link http://kr.forums.oracle.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=615474 like Frank wrote on 8.2.2008:
    But steps are not clear.
    How to input the VO bind parameter with Managed bean variable?
    Any Help
    Regards
    Raj

    Hi,
    a bind variable in a VO needs to be exposed as an executeWithParams operation in the pageDef file. Just add a new action binding to the pageDef file (context menu) and select the executeWithParams operation on teh VO. Then in the argument field, reference the managed bean property for the value

    Hi,
    For session variables:
    @{biServer.variables['NQ_SESSION.variablename' ]}
    For repository variables:
    @{biServer.variables['variablename']}
    Try this syntax in the title view it should work.

  • Variables in HANA Views

    BOE Server, Explorer and Client version 2.8
    HANA DB Rlease 21
    I created a HANA view with variable. When I tried doing data preview in the studio, I get prompted to select the values. Where as when I tried using in the Exlorer or IDT, the variable is being ignored.
    Do I need certain version of BOE software to make use of it?
    The latest release from BOE is fix pack 2.8.
    thanks for your help

    Babu,
    Variables has two aspects: development of variables in SAP HANA and second recognition of these variables in BOBJ tools.
    Currently HANA view cannot recogonized by BOBJ reporting tools. As per my understanding based on SAP discussion, there is future released planned however not sure on time-line.
    If you are using Analysis for Office, you may be able to use macros combine with AO functions to achieve it.
    Hope it helps.
    Thanks
