Variables in CSS

Have come unstuck!
Working in VBscript and ASP I want to take a variable and
place it into a
css file to control with according to screen resolution.
I have the screen info, I have the CSS - just can't get them
to cooperate
with each other.
I'm sure this must easily be doable - can I get it to work
???? NOOOO!
Any pointers very gratefully recieved!

> control with according to screen resolution.
Bad idea. Screen resolution tells you nothing about how wide
the user's
browser viewport is.

  • Variable name calling css?

    What is the variable name initialising the CSS in the HTML index file when publishing out with the HTML5 option?
    Thanks,
    Oliver

    Not really sure what you are after, but the style sheet is loaded in the head when the html page loads. There are surely some inline styles being applied also. CSS as a whole is not put into a variable and CSS does not contain variables. You can use JavaScript to change styles though.

    I have the same problem. It prompts an error in some lines though the "show script" seems to be ok. I'm worry about that the script won't work in production and I can test it.

  • Changing CSS with Liquid

    I need to have an element not render if a WebApp text field is empty (no URL). This implementation is a bit tricky for me as the layout of the plugin gets rendered partially by JavaScript. I am using Fancybox as a lightbox type feature. It is set up to use a data-fancybox-title html property to render a caption and a link to a website.
    With Liquid I would like to check if the website url string is empty, then I will need to change the CSS for the element that contains the link & caption to display:none;. I am not sure how to accomplish this with Liquid? Or will this need to be done with something like jQuery. Thanks.
    Code: [HTML] Pastebin.com

    Great news! I used media queries inside of CSS and got my home page to work on a nice 1280x720 effortlessly However, i have a slideshow script that has the image running 1000x400 and I am wanting to know if there is a way to access the variable of this script:
    // JavaScript Document
    var mygallery=new fadeSlideShow({
        wrapperid: "slideshow", //ID of blank DIV on page to house Slideshow
        dimensions: [1000, 400], //width/height of gallery in pixels. Should reflect dimensions of largest image
        imagearray: [
        ["slideshow/XavierHeadSlide1.jpg"],
            ["slideshow/XavierHeadSlide2.jpg"], ["slideshow/XavierHeadSlide3.jpg"]
             //<--no trailing comma after very last image element!
        displaymode: {type:'auto', pause:1500, cycles:0, wraparound:false},
        persist: false, //remember last viewed slide and recall within same session?
        fadeduration: 2000, //transition duration (milliseconds)
        descreveal: "ondemand",
        togglerid: ""
    I want to access the "dimensions" variable in CSS so I can modify the size without having to create a second image that is slighty smaller... I tried setting the slideshow DIV as a CSS class, but it just simply cut off the image.
    thanks a bunch for all of your help on this matter.

  • Assigning present-state CSS colors within components

    Hi Folks,
    Got a ton of components on my site that I use for navigation. Nav Bars, Button bars, etc. Any given component might therefore link to 20 or 30 subpages.
    Simple question: How do I assign present-state colors to a given button within a component?
    For example: a Nav Bar component has buttons that will lead a visitor to any of a dozen pages. The Nav Bar therefore looks the exact same on every one of those twelve pages, but I'd like the button indicating the present (or current) page to be a different color. The button for page 9, for instance, should have a different color (or current state) when the visitor is actually on page 9.
    The challenge: how to pull this off when the button to be highlighted exists on a component, rather than on the individual page file itself?
    This might not be as hard as it sounds - I'm basically looking for the appropriate CSS tag.
    Many thanks -

    Okay, so after getting almost no views and getting zero replies here, I've found the answer. The answer is NO, this can't be done. Well, at least the part about being able to use variables within the css file. See details at:
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/2645929#2645929
    I found some discussion of people hoping that it will be possible in the future to have variables within css, but that would still not provide what I was looking for in Flash Builder. Perhaps a pre-processing program could be written that would inject colors into the mxml, skin, and css files, but I'm not sure how well that would play with the FB IDE. And even with such a thing, going back and forth with changes could be a problem.
    So I guess we're stuck doing it the hard way.

  • Calendar script needed

    I need a recommendation for a PHP calendar script. It should
    have both a
    large display for use on a single page as well as a small one
    for use in

    to handle
    links from within an event and must be easy for a user to
    update.
    And finally, it must integrate easily into an existing
    design.
    Any ideas?

  • "error in parsing value" "declaration dropped"

    A week ago I lost the ability to log in to my banking site (BBVA Compass). After submitting my username, it USED to then ask for my password on the subsequent screen. Now, it dies with a screen that shows "please wait", never gets beyond that. Looking in the error panel I see countless error messages for "error in parsing value" "declaration dropped", concerning a host of variables in CSS, such as radius, background, background image, etc.
    I CAN log in easily with MSIE. I have killed cookies and history, deleted and reinstalled FF, disabled the few add-ons I use, no joy.
    I have searched on these terms in "FF Help" and found some comments about these, but nothing that resolves the problem. This happens on several sites, I am including one.

    * Did you also clear the browser cache? This sometimes is needed when website have made update, to clear mismatched files.
    orange Firefox button ''or'' Tools menu > Options > Advanced
    On the Network mini-tab > Offline Storage : "Clear Now"
    <br>
    * Do you have Firefox enter the password for you? In that case, you may want to clear the passwords for affected sites here:
    orange Firefox button ''or'' Tools menu > Options > Security > "Saved Passwords" button
    <br>
    * Are there other sites with a problem that don't require a login? We could visit the URLs and see whether we see an issue.
    * Regarding the Error Console (Ctrl+Shift+j), if you filter the list by clicking the Errors button at the top, you can isolate the most critical ones. A lot of the style warnings have no effect on functionality, just appearance.

  • Need a calendar recommendation

    I've had my iphone for about a week and love it but I'm not a fan of the calendar that came on it. So I'm looking for app recommendations. I need the ability to set a custom repeat (ie every 3rd day, Tue/Thur, MWF). Syncing with a web-based calendar would be nice but not totally necessary since I have my phone with me at all times. If you have recommendations of calendar apps that will do this please share. Thanks in advance.

    You're welcome!

  • MX vs. version 8

    I have an opportunity to get Studio MX 2004 for a pretty

    are the major differences between the two?

    Yeah, I guess that's completely right. I create the stuff,

    Hi. I'.m a flash newbie with little coding experience. I have an animation that I created in flash that I exported to html5 with toolkit for createjs. It looks good, however I would like to have the animation be proportionally sized to the browser window, so that it can be viewed on a variey of devices. My iPhone seems to adjust the size, however when I view it on the desktop, the bottom gets cut off, and remains the same size when I resize the browser window. Is there any way to have the animaton resize according to the browser window?

  • Variable Entry Style Sheet (CSS)

    The Web template uses the style sheet from the MIME repository:
    <link href=/sap/bw/mime/BEx/StyleSheets/BWReports.css  type=text/css rel=stylesheet>
    But, when the variable entry screen is displayed when executing the query it is not formatted and uses this style sheet:
    <link rel="stylesheet" href="OWNER">
    What is missing or needs to be configured so that the variable entry page uses the same style sheet as the Web template?
    Thanks for the help in advance.

    i had ot type out in the file:css in order for it to be imported into DW i dont know why its doing that.
    Did you define a local site folder in DW before you begain your project?

  • PHP Code, Variables & CSS. Would this work?

    Hello,
    I am new to PHP, this is my first script I have made without any help, I am using xammp to test my site, but the basics of the code is this. I am adding an include code into the navigation menu and in the CSS I have defined certain rules for the nav. Now in the code when you click on one of the links, it will change the variable to a corresponding number. The Code is pretty much self explanatory.
    Menu.php:
    <?
    $active = 1;
    ?>
        <ul>
          <li><a href="#"  onclick="<? $active = 1; ?>" class="<? if ($active = 1){?>#navigation ul li a.active<? } ?>">Portfolio</a></li>
          <li><a href="#"  onclick="<? $active = 2; ?>" class="<? if ($active = 2){?>#navigation ul li a.active<? } ?>">Web Examples</a></li>
          <li><a href="#"  onclick="<? $active = 3; ?>" class="<? if ($active = 3){?>#navigation ul li a.active<? } ?>">Contact Me</a></li>
        </ul>
    Menu CSS:
    #navigation { text-align: right; font-weight: bold; text-transform: uppercase; font-size:14px; line-height:18px; height:70px;}
    #navigation ul{ list-style-type: none; }
    #navigation ul li{ display:inline; padding-left:15px; }
    #navigation ul li a{ text-decoration: none; color:#fff; }
    #navigation ul li a:hover,
    #navigation ul li a.active { color:#ffe6a5; }
    Now what I want to happen is when you click on one of the links, it will change to active, changing the color of the text to tell the visitor that, that link is active. Now normally I would do it though CSS, changing the texts rule to the active, but in order to be able to change buttons without having to do it though all the pages and also because I want to start using PHP more.
    The Include works, as you can see below, but the code above does not work, because the home button should be a light yellow color.

    I can't comment on your PHP, but you can achieve your desired result quite simply using this demo from Nancy.

  • Can one get the Java variables corresponding to the css properties

    Hi,
    I want to be able to get some css properties as Java variables so that I can animate their values.
    Through css there is no way to perform animations of properties, in a non discrete way.
    Cheers and thanks in advance,

    You may be interested in tracking progress on:
    http://javafx-jira.kenai.com/browse/RT-17293 "CSS Style Object Model in Java".
    In the meantime, maybe you make use of something like this which animates a value within a css style string.
    @Override public void start(final Stage stage) throws Exception {
      final Rectangle rectangle = new Rectangle(150, 100);
      DoubleProperty greenness = new SimpleDoubleProperty();
      greenness.addListener(new ChangeListener<Number>() {
        @Override public void changed(ObservableValue<? extends Number> number, Number oldValue, Number newValue) {
          rectangle.setStyle("-fx-fill: rgb(0, " + newValue + ", 0);");
      Timeline t = new Timeline(
         new KeyFrame(Duration.ZERO,       new KeyValue(greenness, 0)),
         new KeyFrame(Duration.seconds(5), new KeyValue(greenness, 255))
      t.setCycleCount(Animation.INDEFINITE);
      t.setAutoReverse(true);
      t.play();
      stage.setScene(new Scene(new Group(rectangle)));
      stage.show();
    }

    Include "C:/bea/alui/plumtreeconf/"
    # Based upon the NCSA server configuration files originally by Rob McCool.
    # This is the main Apache server configuration file.  It contains the
    # configuration directives that give the server its instructions.
    # See <URL:http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.0/> for detailed information about
    # the directives.
    # Do NOT simply read the instructions in here without understanding
    # what they do.  They're here only as hints or reminders.  If you are unsure
    # consult the online docs. You have been warned.
    # The configuration directives are grouped into three basic sections:
    #  1. Directives that control the operation of the Apache server process as a
    #     whole (the 'global environment').
    #  2. Directives that define the parameters of the 'main' or 'default' server,
    #     which responds to requests that aren't handled by a virtual host.
    #     These directives also provide default values for the settings
    #     of all virtual hosts.
    #  3. Settings for virtual hosts, which allow Web requests to be sent to
    #     different IP addresses or hostnames and have them handled by the
    #     same Apache server process.
    # Configuration and logfile names: If the filenames you specify for many
    # of the server's control files begin with "/" (or "drive:/" for Win32), the
    # server will use that explicit path.  If the filenames do *not* begin
    # with "/", the value of ServerRoot is prepended -- so "logs/foo.log"
    # with ServerRoot set to "C:/Program Files/Apache Group/Apache2" will be interpreted by the
    # server as "C:/Program Files/Apache Group/Apache2/logs/foo.log".
    # NOTE: Where filenames are specified, you must use forward slashes
    # instead of backslashes (e.g., "c:/apache" instead of "c:\apache").
    # If a drive letter is omitted, the drive on which Apache.exe is located
    # will be used by default.  It is recommended that you always supply
    # an explicit drive letter in absolute paths, however, to avoid
    # confusion.
    ### Section 1: Global Environment
    # The directives in this section affect the overall operation of Apache,
    # such as the number of concurrent requests it can handle or where it
    # can find its configuration files.
    # ServerRoot: The top of the directory tree under which the server's
    # configuration, error, and log files are kept.
    # NOTE!  If you intend to place this on an NFS (or otherwise network)
    # mounted filesystem then please read the LockFile documentation (available
    # at <URL:http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.0/mod/mpm_common.html#lockfile>);
    # you will save yourself a lot of trouble.
    # Do NOT add a slash at the end of the directory path.
    ServerRoot "C:/Program Files/Apache Group/Apache2"
    # ScoreBoardFile: File used to store internal server process information.
    # If unspecified (the default), the scoreboard will be stored in an
    # anonymous shared memory segment, and will be unavailable to third-party
    # applications.
    # If specified, ensure that no two invocations of Apache share the same
    # scoreboard file. The scoreboard file MUST BE STORED ON A LOCAL DISK.
    #ScoreBoardFile logs/apache_runtime_status
    # PidFile: The file in which the server should record its process
    # identification number when it starts.
    PidFile logs/httpd.pid
    # Timeout: The number of seconds before receives and sends time out.
    Timeout 300
    # KeepAlive: Whether or not to allow persistent connections (more than
    # one request per connection). Set to "Off" to deactivate.
    KeepAlive On
    # MaxKeepAliveRequests: The maximum number of requests to allow
    # during a persistent connection. Set to 0 to allow an unlimited amount.
    # We recommend you leave this number high, for maximum performance.
    MaxKeepAliveRequests 100
    # KeepAliveTimeout: Number of seconds to wait for the next request from the
    # same client on the same connection.
    KeepAliveTimeout 15

    # The directives in this section set up the values used by the 'main'
    # server, which responds to any requests that aren't handled by a
    # <VirtualHost> definition.  These values also provide defaults for
    # any <VirtualHost> containers you may define later in the file.
    # All of these directives may appear inside <VirtualHost> containers,
    # in which case these default settings will be overridden for the
    # virtual host being defined.
    # ServerAdmin: Your address, where problems with the server should be
    # e-mailed.  This address appears on some server-generated pages, such
    # as error documents.  e.g. [email protected]

    # ServerName gives the name and port that the server uses to identify itself.
    # This can often be determined automatically, but we recommend you specify
    # it explicitly to prevent problems during startup.
    # If this is not set to valid DNS name for your host, server-generated
    # redirections will not work.  See also the UseCanonicalName directive.

    I am not expert in these, but please check out the following things and see whether it would solve your issue. (All these changes can be easily rolled back in case I'm wrong :). So make note of what you do)
    As per your httpd.conf, you have chosen an automatic configuration of Apache by OWCI installer itself. What it does is create an imageserver.conf file in a separate directory and these settings will be included in your httpd.conf as you can see in the first line: Include "C:/bea/alui/plumtreeconf/".
    If you check the imageserver.conf in that location, you would find a line like: Alias /imageserver/ "C:/bea/alui/ptimages/imageserver/". This aliases the original path "C:/bea/alui/ptimages/imageserver/" to /imageserver"
    To confirm whether this is done right, check the following:
    1. Acces 'http://<server ip / server name / localhost >/' from your browser
    This should display the Apache home page (as per your httpd.conf, it uses the default port 80; so no port number required)
    2. Access 'http://<server ip>/imageserver/' from your browser
    This should display the directory structure (if its not disabled) inside your 'C:/bea/alui/ptimages/imageserver/' folder. Also confirm that all the subfolders are accessible.
    3. If all the above is right, it means that your imageserver settings are right. Please check your portalconfig.xml for the correct settings: For example, <setting name="HTTPPort"> should be 7001 in your case. If its something else, change it and restart Weblogic for the settings to take effect.
    Hope this helps.
