Variant Configuration - Order BOM problems
Good morning,
I am having problems regarding the Order BOM in variant configuration. I have maintained the configuration profile as follows:
CONFIG PARAMETERS
Ordem BOM
Result oriented
Multilevel
BOM application - SD01
ORDER BOM
Maint. in order allowed - checked
Automatic fixing - checked
I have also maintained a BOM, for usage '5 - sales and distriburion', with the selection conditions at the object dependencies.
When I test the results in CU50, assign all characteristics and push the button "Engineering" the icons for manual maintenance appear correctly in the screen...BUT when I raise the actual order, the icons are gone, therefore I cant add or delete items of the selected BOM.
Any ideias of how to fix that?
Thanks in advance.

Multilevel variant configuration without BOM explosion
Hi!
We have the following problem:
We use BOMs with variant configuration in SD and NO BOM explosion. Means, enter the BOM-head material in the SD line, go to the configuration screen and configure the multilevel BOM. There are classes and attributes on every level in the multilevel BOM structure.
After finishing the variant configuration, we save the SD order. If we enter the new SD order again with VA03 and go to the configuration of the SD line, the system forgot every attribute value on levels other than the BOM-head. We see the structure of the selected BOM materials, but no previously entered configuration value on other levels.
Do we make something wrong, or is this a SAP standard "feature" ?
Thanks,
RichardHi,
This is a standard feature. The values which you will select for the configurable material, you will not able to see when you got to VA03.
Reward points if helpful.

SD Variant configurator ( VC ) - inconsistency problem
Hi everybody,
It appears me some troubles with VC when I try to set value for particular feature again.
I have inconsistency fault when I try to change the value by calling FM 'CUOV_SET_FUNCTION_ARGUMENT' from configuration profile but it was set manually by user first (in standard VC window).
Both values of feature are correct (old and new).
Error looks like :
E: Inconsistent values inferred for characteristic (here is number of characteristic)
and next in details:
The following values are incompatible with each other:
(here is old value)
(here is new value)
I will be greatful if anybody has an idea how to solve it.
BR
TomasKen, thanks for your answer.
Let me know you, that this inconsistency problem exits in case when I try to overwrite feature value by FM I mentioned, and this value was set manually first only ( VC window)
If I try to owerwrite the feature manually (using the same value) - there is OK.
I suppose, I should in "any way " clear values which was set manually first, or change "something" in SAP Variant Configurator what let me change priority and allows overwrite value by FM which was set first manually ( in VC window) . But I have no idea how to do it...
Thanks and Regards

Order BOM process- material vairant for configurable assembly
Hi,
I am working on multi-level material variants with order BOM process. The configurable header material and assembly should be
replaced by material variants after configuration is done. I configured the multi-level BOM explosion at sales order. After I configured the assembly, I executed type matching and a material variant for assembly was found. But the system didn't replace
configurable assembly with material variant automatically and I couldn't find any functionality to carry out replacement. The header material was replaced by material variant in sales order entry. However, while I tried to carried out technical processing to
create order BOM (CU51), the error message shows that I couldn't create order BOM due to the header material has been replaced
with material variant. Does anyone have experience at multi-level material variants with order BOM process? Please kindly help.
Thanks.
B. Regards,
NancyHi ,
Could you pls explain the issue bit more clearly, As per my understanding you are using order BOM with variant configuration
Is it correct ?
Check the configuration profile settings ( CU41 ) , did you selected the order BOM radio button -

Variant Configuration (LO-VC)
Above steps are standard VC steps for ETO Variant configuration and to have a super BOM you only need to create a Material BOM(CS01) with all the Raw materials as components with item category K and proceed accordingly.

Production Order BOM with Variant Configurable Material
Hi,
I have a requirement to process the document items in the Production Order BOM for a variant configurable martial. I am not sure which Function Module will do this purpose. I checked the FM: CS_BOM_EXPL_MAT_V2 and does not seem to be working.
Can you please help me with a suitable Function Module or program that will process the Production Order BOM? Appreciate Your Help.
Thanks,
Kanan
Edited by: Kannan SA on Jul 6, 2011 8:59 PMWhat are you doing with the characteristics right now ?
If you want operations selected based on characteristic values, you need to have dependencies written just like you do (or in your case, will do) in your BOM components.
I understand the business-push to not do things 100% at the start and just "oh we'll add that part later" but I would really push back to get that part included initially. -
Copy Order Bom in Two-Step Variant Configuration
Dear Community,
In Multilevel VC Order Bom Scenario. Configuration is made for the first level by sales department, then further levels are configurated by Technical Department.
If the sales document is a quotation and then we want to create de sales order with reference to the quotation, only the configuration for the first level is getting copied. All the characteristics of the lower level configurable materials appear in blank, as well as selected class items in quotation as well as manually added components.
Is there a way to copy the whole order bom of the original document or the characteristics value for every level?
Thank you
Sebastián LiguerosHi Rahul,
Basically , an order bom doesnot explode therefore you cannot configure any of the components. Please review note 303446
By changing the default value of the variable GV_FORCE_BOM_EXPLOSION_ASL in Include LCUKOFBE, you can force the explosion of the order BOM in the sales order. As a result, subordinate items of the order BOM are configured provided that these items were not fixed.I
Therefore please set this variable GV_FORCE_BOM_EXPLOSION_ASL to X and retest,
Thanks

Sales order costing (MTO) Variant configuration.
Hi,
Basically there 3 different types of finished castings :
1. Special finished Casting u2013 which is a configurable material . this casting is saleable as well as can be used for manufacturing machined castings. This casting is been manufactured at plant : 8110 only. The planning strategy maintained is 25 (make to order with configurable material)
2. Machined Casting u2013 this is also an configurable finished material which can be sold as well as can be used as an BOM for manufacturing Assembly castings. This casting gets manufactured at plant : 8130 only. The planning strategy maintained is 25 (make to order with configurable material)
3. Assembly casting : this is also an configurable finished material which is always saleable. This casting gets manufactured at plant : 8130 only. The planning strategy maintained is 25 (make to order with configurable material)
Scenario which is as follows :
1. Customer gives the PO for assembly casting at 8110 plant code.
2. Therefore Plant : 8110 will generate the stock transfer order to 8130 for assembly castings
3. For manufacturing of assembly castings in 8130, the plant needs to manufacture Machined castings in 8130 plant and for manufacturing machined castings in plant 8130 , the plant requires special castings which is been manufactured at 8110 plant.
4. So, firstly Special castings will get manufactured at 8110 plant with the reference of assembly sales order .
5. After that stock transfer for special castings will be done from 8110 to 8130 plant .
6. Then customer would start manufacturing machined castings
7. And then finally manufacture assembly casting
8. Finally assembly castings will get transferred from 8130 to 8110 plant for sale
9. Sale of assembly castings from 8110 plant respectively.
Touch points of the scenario:
1. Cost of special casting and machined castings should get rolled up to the assembly castings
2. These needs to be executed in MTO scenario only because of variant configuration
3. While doing the stock transfer, the cost should include transfer pricing as well
Problem Statement :
1. We understand that for configurable material , you cannot run the standard cost estimate, therefore the material master price with price control u201CSu201D is always zero. So when do the stock transfer from of assembly cast or special cast for one plant to another then cost update happening at both the plants is zero.
Please suggest some better solution for incorporating this scenario inclusive of the touch points.
Thanks...Dear Srinivas,
You can post this query to SD forum also for better response.

Dear SAP Friends,
I have created VC including everything necessary. I have created the Sales Order also with the necessary Variant created. But I am not able to deliver as in the availability Check it has taken as per the below:
Avail Check = 01 and Checking Rule = AE
The MRP element is showing SimReq i.e. Simulated requirements.
I have not created any BOM. I have created Material with KMAT and Configurable Profile, Characteristics, Class etc.
How can I create the Super BOM with my Configurable Material (Number is 1479) as this Material Item category group is 0002 pricing at header level. But in the BOM (Tr. Code CS01), I have to give the item category group as ERLA.
My Class is ZHONDA, Characterics are ZCOL and ZCC.
I have created Variant as "RED100" for the Car and this Variant is not a Material. I am a bit confused. I did not find any suitable answer from the past thread.
Please help to solve this problem.

Problem while creating PO from SO for a Variant configurable material
Hi
i am facing a problem when i am creating a Purchse order from a Sales order.
the material is a variant configurable material and we are creating a Sales order in Future date say in june.
For one of the materials in the SO the configuration is different today and the configuration is different in June.
Today the BOM contains different materials and in june there is a different bom for the material.
and according to my understanding the BOM gets exploded on the basis on the delivery date in SO.
here on the basis of the config which is valid in june materials are getting picked and that is correct.
when i try to creat a PO out of that SO i could see that the BOM gets exploded and correct materials are picked but i get the error message that inforecord for one of the componentes is not there.
but that component is not getting selected in the config..and it is not there in BOM in june.
It is there in the BOM today but not in JUNE.
I dont understand why the system is refering to that componeent and throwing this error
please help
Thanks & Regards
sarikaYou may try creating two BOMs -- one speicfic to the date of order.

Regd : Error during saving the sales order for Variant configuration
Hi -
When the item( config material) is saved in the sales order , system scheduled the production order and getting an error as " Posting Rule for Assembly order for item 000010 could not be generated".
Any solutions regarding the error.Hi,
This is the process of Assembly to order with variant configuration. In material master, you can maintain gen item category 0002 (configurable material) in basic data view, sales 2 view item category grp 0002 and strategy group 82 in MRP 3 view. After creating of material master, BOM & Routing, You can create sales order in VA01 transaction.
In this VA01, When you create sales order, system will check material availability, capacity checking and system will show variants for each items. And also when you will save the sales order, system will create production order no immdiately.
So you can maintain the above settings compulsory.
please let me know any clarification.

Creation of sales order with Variant configuration info
Hi friends,
I am creating sales order along with Variant configuration data. We have 3 level BOM structure.
I am using BAPI_SALESORDER_CREATEFROMDAT2 and filling in ORDER_CFGS_REF, ORDER_CFGS_INST, ORDER_CFGS_PART_OF ORDER_CFGS_VALUE, ORDER_CFGS_REFINST
tables exactly the same way BAPISDORDER_GETDETAILEDLIST FM returns.
Sales order is being created with no variant configuration information.(Not in the header level atleast)
Can any one help me on this.
Thanks
SeshagiriUpdating Variant Configuration data for SO item became little tricky for us in an ongoing implementation. After spending some hours investigating the correct combination of data to pass, we were able to post the document correctly. As no detailed documentation is available online for this scenario, I hope this post will help community for similar requirements. J
For updating Variant configuration (VC) data for Sales order item, we need to populate below tables of standard FM or BAPI (e.g. SD_SALESDOCUMENT_CREATE).
Normally the standard FM or BAPI does not return any error messages in case configuration data is not updated successfully.
· SALES_SCHEDULES_IN: The required date field should be populated with appropriate value (REQ_DATE).
· SALES_ITEMS_IN: Field PO_ITM_NO should be populated with appropriate value.
· SALES_CFGS_REF Table:
1. This table should have 1 record per item.
2. Combination of CONFIG_ID and ROOT_ID should be unique across line items.
