Variant Configuration, Procedure for BOM Quantity Calculation

Hi, everybody,
I need to solve this problem and can't have any idea if this is possilbe.
Imagine a company that manufactures for customer specific requirement "plastic rectangles" (Length A, Width B).
Finished Product has a ZFG variant class with class 300.
Class ZFG has two characteristics, LENGTH and WIDTH
BOM for the finished product has one item class "Plastic" which can be replaced with any Plastic assigned to this class. Base unit of measure of Plastics is KG. If any plastic code has its own specific weight per area how can I calculate how much weight (Kg) I need  for specific sales order?
The formula is Lenght x Width x Specifi Weight per area of chosen Plastic.
The two first values area characteristics values in configuration, the third one is a value dependent of material (could be a characteristic in plastic class too if this helps.....)
Do you know a way to achieve this? Is it possible to do it using a procedure?.
Thanks and best regards,
Sebastián Ligueros

1. Since youare using class item you will hvae one more characteristics called Plastic type in the Class
2. You can maintian one variant table, in which you can maintain Plastic Type and specific Gravity
3. Now using this you can try to infer the value and using a procedure you should be able to calculate the weight for the BOM item.
Kindly let me know for feedback

    Hi,
I want to do the setting for BOM cost calculation like when we execute the CK11  system shows all the componenet of that BOM along with the total price  in present devlopment system for one compnay code when i execute CK11 for a materialwhich is having BOM it is not displaying the BOM component, also not showing any price so what setting required for this, that after costing RUN  system should calculate the MAP of finish material as per total value of BOM component  and that value should be update as the MAP of Finish material.

  • Variant Configuration / Need for a separate forum

    Dear Moderators,
I have been contributing, accessing and extracting information from this forum for my projects and trainings. Recently we have added lot of new forums especially in SD, a separate forum for billing, sales etc.
On the same path, I feel that it will add immense value if a new forum for Variant Configuration is created. As this is an area which touches various modules, and various applications like configurable materials in SD, Release procedures in MM, etc, people can share all the information regarding variant configuration in a common forum like this.
May I please request you to consider this and take it forward if this makes some sense.
Any feedback on this is welcome, especially from people like Rajesh Banka, Laxmipathy etc who have been here for quite sometime in SD

    I'm going to respectfully disagree.
I saw something similar at elementsvillage.com when they created a "Mac-Specific" forum. People who had questions that really had nothing to do with their Mac, for example "Can't open RAW from D7000", still put the question in the Mac-Specific forum, because they were using a Mac. As a result, the community was fragmented in ways that had nothing to do with the question. People who might have benefited from this question but didn't have a Mac and so didn't look in the Mac-Specific forum, and didn't get the answer as quickly. People who asked questions in this forum that had nothing to do with Macs wound up relying on a smaller community of experts to help solve the problem. I know I certainly never read that forum, so I didn't provide answers, nor did I learn from the information in that forum. I consider that decision to create a "Mac-Specific" forum to be a failure.

    Hi Gurus,
I followed your instructions but the error is as it is only.
Actually when I am converting Plnd order to Production Order in stock requirement list of Configurable material, its not converting.
the error i am getting is " You cannot make an assignment to make to order stock"
and also i am getting the following information - the component cannot be allocated to an individual stock because make to order production and engineer to order production cannot be executed with this order
a possible cause is that you are trying to create an order with reference to a sales order / project where an account assignment to a sales order / project is not allowed in the settlement profile that is assigned to the chosen order type this is inconsistent

Please guide what i have to do for solving the problem.

If you knwo configuration for book depriciation it will also almost same. For this purpose you need to have:
    1.One dep area for incomtax dep - T.code - OAP1
    2. Define deprication key with multilevel method ( where u specify the %).
    3. Assign that dep key asset master in the IT Dep area.

  • ECM - Variant Configuration - Disable for specific Object?

Once we use change number for a material and Configuration profile, the change number will be mandatory field.  This also occurs for CU02 - Object Dependencies, CL02 - Classification, CU60 Variant Tables and CT04 Characteristics.
We know this is a crazy question to some that have strict controls, but we would like to remove the requirement for some materials & configuration that no longer require engineering change management.   Has someone experience something similar or implemented a configuration change that would fulfill our requirements?
Reading through the process documents, I believe it is not possible.   But I thought I would check with the global experts on this matter.
Best Regards and Thank you for your feedback,

    Hi,
I would suggest you better go with the authorization control for the same. Beacuse by that way you will be alble to meet your requirement up to some extend but by this way as you are asking, there is crezy in true mean as you wrightly said.

  • Steps for Variant Configuration

    Hi Gurus,
Can any body tell me step by step procedure for variant configuration.
    My e-mail id. <REMOVED>
    Regds.......
    Sumit

    Hi Sumit,
Variant configuration is for manufacturing complex products. The manufacturer always has to offer new variants of its products. Often, new variants are created by modifying existing product designs as you process the order. The important thing is to react quickly to customers' requirements.
The customer determines the features of the product. A customer buying a car, for example, can choose the features of the car and combine these features as required.
The product configurator improves information exchange between sales, engineering, and production. Variant configuration helps the customer or salesperson to put together specifications for the product and ensure that the product can be produced from these specifications. It also ensures that production costs do not overstep the mark.
    Procedure -
Create a Material - KMAT type with Item category (002)
Create Characteristics in CT04 - Zbike, where in values mention the Color of the bile like Red, Blue etc
Create another characteristics in CT04 - ZPrice, where directly go the additional data tab and maintain the table SDCOM and field VKOND (ABAP Dictionary it will ask for)
Assign these two characteristics to a Class in CL01 - ZBikeclass (Type 300) in characteristics tab page.
Then go to CU41 Configuration profile select the material and enter the description click on the class assignment i.e. assign Zbikclass.
Now go back to CT04 - enter Zbike -go to values- select Red- go to extras - Other Dependencies - Select Procedure enter in front 10 write - $self.ZPrice='Red' and save
Now go back go to extras - Other Dependencies - assignments and assign relationship ( by default it will come just save)
Now select Blue- go to extras - Other Dependencies - Editor - Select Procedure enter in front of 10 write - $self.ZPrice='Blue' and save
Now go back go to extras - Other Dependencies - assignments and assign relationship ( by default it will come just save)
Now go to VK11 - Enter VA00 (Condition) (For Std RVA001 Pricing Procedure) - enter variant Red and Blue give the rates accordingly and create the sales order.

from these specifications. It also ensures that production costs do not overstep the
    mark.
    Integration
Variant configuration is integrated in the following applications:
    a.. CA Classification
    b.. LO Material Master
    c.. PP Bill of Material
    d.. PP Routings
    e.. PP-PI Master Recipes
    f.. SD Sales
    g.. SD Conditions
    h.. MM Purchasing
    i.. CO Costing
j.. PP Material Requirements Planning (MRP)
    k.. PP Production Orders
You can configure the following objects:
    a.. Materials
b.. Standard networks in the Project System.
c.. PM General maintenance task lists
    d.. Model service specifications
    Features
You do not need to create a separate material for each variant of a product in your
company. You can use one configurable material to cover all variants. You create a
super BOM and a super routing for this material, containing all the components and
operations for producing all variants of the product.
To define the features of a configurable material, you use characteristics. To
enable you to use characteristics to configure a material, you assign the material
to a class of class type 300. Possible characteristics of a car, for example, are
model, country, color, and engine. The customer can choose from among different
    options for each characteristic (values).
The only limitations are combinations of features that are not possible for either
technical or marketing reasons. You cannot combine all types of car engine with all
types of transmission, for example, or certain types of upholstery are only
available for more expensive models. In Variant Configuration, you use dependencies
to control this. This prevents combinations of options that are not allowed.
Dependencies also select exactly the right BOM components and operations to produce
    a variant.
Each configurable object must have a configuration profile. The configuration
profile for a material controls the configuration process in the sales order.
You can make the price of a variant dependent on the characteristic values assigned
(Pricing). You can use variant conditions to define surcharges and discounts for a
    variant.
For variants that are required frequently, you can create material variants, which
can be produced without a sales order and kept in stock. When you receive a sales
order, you can check whether the variant required is in stock, so that you can
    deliver immediately.

  • Variant configuration u2013 availability check for Configurable material

    Hi Guys,
We are doing the variant configuration scenario for one of our client. We are using planning strategy as 25 (sales order with variant configuration).
When we configure the Configurable material at sales order level, we wanted to check the availability check of Configurable for the combination of selected characteristics.
How we can configure it in the system.
    Regards,
    Shailendra

    Hi,
availability check will work as per the checking group you had defined in system.
additionaly you need to put tick in configuration profile for availability check.
checking for material varient is optional, if your bussiness has materail varients you can activate type matching and while configuring the sales order if the values of charactersticks matches system will suggest you the the appropiate varient and you can replace your configurable material in sales order with it.
    hope it will help you.
If you need some more information please explain what exactly your are expecting from system during availability check.

  • Variant configuration - Configuration Simulation for Planned Order

    Hi,
I am using the configuration simulation to check the configuration results for BOM and Routing. However, I am unable to get the simulation of the Planned Order. What are the requirements to get simulation of the Planned Order in configuration simulation? I have set the configuration parameters - Process to Plnd/Prod Order and BOM explosion to multi-level. The BOM for my KMAT material also have semifinish goods which requires MRP. I am confused how come no components was selected during the simulation of Planned Order.
I would really appreciate if anyone has any input on why this happened.
    Thank you very much.
    Cheers,
    Sue

    Dear,
    Please check the following
    Material type =Kmat
Super BOm and depedency is maintained for BOM item selection
Super routing with dependency is maintained
you have maintained - conf profile with following setting
    process- pl/prod order
    bom exlposion - multi level
    BOm explosion - PP01
explosion level - <b></b>NO<b></b> check box tick for only conf meterial
    Profile is released.
now try in cu50, confi result=BOM radio box

  • BOM quantity change (STPO-MENGE) resulting quantity less than 1

    Hi,
Anyone have done a BOM quantity change (STPO-MENGE) where the resulting quantity is less than 1.  Please help.
      Thanks,
         Hazel

Do you mean base quantity by saying header quantity?  I'm running variant configuration.  The base quantity is restricted to 1.  Moreover, changing the unit of measure is not an option.  Each is the official base unit of measure.
    Sample Scenario/Requirement:
An order for a qty of 1000 requires a total 84 plates.  Each plate can yield a qty of 12.
    SAP uses the equation -->
    Current Component Qty =
(required qty/base qty) * saved component qty
    Calculations:
Step 1) Derive Current Component Qty
Let required qty = order qty (VBAP-KWMENG),
base qty = max yield per plate (given)
    Current Component Qty =
                 ceiling (VBAP-KWMENG/max yield per plate)
              = ceiling (1000/12)
              = ceiling (83.333333)
              = 84
The Current Component Qty (84) is the qty used production orders and is equal to the Requirements Qty of the component (RESBD-MENGE)
Step 2) Derive save component qty.  In Variant Configuration, save component qty is equal to STPO-MENGE.  Base quantity of 1 is assigned to the KMAT (configurable material).
    Since Current Component Qty =
(required qty/base qty) * saved component qty
    by substitution -->
        84 = (1000/1) * saved component qty
    saved component qty = (84/1000)
    saved component qty = .084
    Issue/Problem:
I have the above calculations correct in Variant Configuration.  To run a check, I do a production order simulation (CO01S) for a Total order qty of 1000 with today's Finish date.  When I click for components overview, it gives me a Requirements qty of the component of 83 and NOT 84.
I'm not sure how SAP does the calculation in the background, but I was thinking; maybe, by increasing the number of decimals from 3 (.083) to 6 (.083333) would give me the 84 that I needed.

Updating Variant Configuration data for SO item became little tricky for us in an ongoing implementation. After spending some hours investigating the correct combination of data to pass, we were able to post the document correctly. As no detailed documentation is available online for this scenario, I hope this post will help community for similar requirements. J
For updating Variant configuration (VC) data for Sales order item, we need to populate below tables of standard FM or BAPI (e.g. SD_SALESDOCUMENT_CREATE).
Normally the standard FM or BAPI does not return any error messages in case configuration data is not updated successfully.
    ·         SALES_SCHEDULES_IN: The required date field should be populated with appropriate value (REQ_DATE).
