Variant for a query in Web

HI,
In my query I had a User entry Variable (Multiple Single Values) on 0DEPARTMENT.
I had give a list of 2000 departments in a excel file.
When I execute a query in WEB (7X Template) my requirement is to create a Variant so that if selected all the 2000 departments are included
How can I paste all the 2000 values in the variable screen and save it as a variant

Hi,
For this you will need to create variant for the query in RSRT transaction. Just goto RSRT transaction. Provide the query name and click on Query Variants button. You will get a n option to create variant for the query. paste all the 2000 values for that particular variable of the query and save it as variant.
Now when you will execute the query in the web you will get an option to select that variant from the query.

Variant for Control Query on Bex Broadcaster Filter

I am trying to create a Bex Broadcaster setting on a query via query designer (query -->Publish --> Bex Broadcaster). In the Filter Navigation Tab, I want include a filter using a control query with variants. My control query has a variable that is set to (single value, mandatory,manual input) and i created a variant for the control query on the web. I am able to create the Bex Broadcaster setting and enter my control query but when I go enter the variant it always gives me "No selections available".
Another issue that i am having is - when I try to create a filter on a characterisitc in the Bex Broadcaster and give mulitple values in the filter, it ends up generating seperate excel files (distribution type is e-mail) for each value in the filter. Is there any way i can consolidate all these results and get it to generate on single file?

1st : no wanswer by now.
2nd : don't filter in the Broadcastsetting, filter in the Broadcastquery to avoid a broadcast for every filter value.

Creating a bookmark for a query in web - which tables in this context ?

Hi Experts,
when I create a bookmark for a query processed in web , a record in tables RSZWVIEW and RSZWBOOKMARK as well is generated.
I'm searching for the link between this tables - i.e. where is the connection between BOOKMARKID of RSZWBOOKMARK
and VIEWID of RSZWVIEW ?

Hi Joe,
i don't think there is a link.
Judging by the timestamp for some of my bookmarks the entry in table RSZWVIEW gets created just before the entry in RSZWBOOKMARK.
However, I do not see a link between the entries other than that they get created during the same activitiy: Creating a bookmark.

Short Dump While selecting Variant for ABAP query

Hi,
ABAP query is going to short dump (CONNE_IMPORT_WRONG_COMP_LENG) while selecting a Variant. If i create and use variant then i am able to see Output of Variant.But not able to use Earlier created variants .
I think some mismatch between variant values and selection screen fields.Can anyone tell me how to rectify this ?
I am not able to debug the code as dump is coming in a System program(RSDBSPVD).Can anyone tell me which database table i can use to get values of the Variant.

Unable to create global variant for BEx query

Good Day BI Experts.
I would like to be able to provide some of my power users with the ability to create global variants to BEx queries executed using Analyzer. When they try to save a global variant now, they receive the message "You are not authorized to create variant name". Is there a generic role that can be assigned to the user for this? Or perhaps a PFCG setting to an existing role? I'm rather new at this, so details would be appreciated.

Hi.
Your users need to have create and change access for auth object S_RS_PARAM to create variants.
You can enforce a naming convention by maintaining the values of "tech name of variant" like Z*, according to your needs.

P.S:
If you have a general role for report users, add the auth object to that one in PFCG if it's not already there. In the latter case, you might have to change the values, to let your users maitain things...

You can use the table RSRVARIANTDIR to get the list of variants for each query and this tables has the created user id.

Delete the variants of a query from SAP GUI

Hi all,
We have migrated queries from 3.5 to 7.0, and now we are migrating their variants also.
But while migrating variants we got a situation where some variants got copied but not activated in 7.0.
so now we want to delete those variants and migrate it again as they are not being over written.
so, my question is how can we delete variants for a query in one shot from SAP GUI.
plzz....help asap.

But the variant cannot be migrated when a variant with same technical name already exists in 'new' variant storage
would it be possible that the variant that you are trying to migrate shares a tech name with one already on the system?
to check variant tables for tech names used twice....

variants that appear in rsrvariant (3x) will not migrate if the same
tech name appears already in rsrparametrizat (new storage area for bi7).

Variant for a Web Report

Hi Guys,
I was wondering if there was a way of creating a variant for a web report, the way we can create one for a BEx report. I would like to be able to store the variable values in a variant and then select one of the avaialable ones.

The save as view functionality does exist in BW 3.x. The only difference is that it is not available as a web item. There is a template named 0publishing_template. This has the save view option available. The other way is directly from the Web Application Designer. Go to Tools --> View Definition --> Select either based on a query or based on another query view. Once this is done you can either create another web template with the view as your dataprovider or you can create a hyperlink in the role menu and use a URL like this:
http://servername/sap/bw/BEx?sap-language=EN&bsplanguage=EN&CMD=LDOC&TEMPLATE_ID=0query_template&data_provider_id=technical name view.
One thing to note is that views will save the variable entries. You can add VARIABLE_SCREEN="X" to force the display of the variable screen. To change the values in the variable screen add VARIABLES_CLEAR="X".

Profile Parameter : Time out for executing query on the web

Hi gurus,
I am executing queries on the web directly. This can be done from query designer with the button that says "Execute query on web". The problem is that for queries that take more than 600 Secs to run, I get an Application timed out error. Queries that take less than this run smoothly.
Can anyone please tell me the profile parameter associated with this particular setting. It is not rdisp/max_wprun_time, I know for sure since the value for this profile parameter in my system is 9999. Please help.

Customer exits (0calday) for a query to populate dates dynamically

Hi,
Our user has this requirement for running a reporting in background for every previous week and month which has 34 variants.
Please tell if the way i choose is correct and also any suggestion for the below!...
1. wanted to use reporting agent for running the report in the background with reporting agent+ webtemplates.
2. and also wanted to get the dates populated dynamically in the report...so thought of using CUSTOMER EXITs.
please help me with the code to write in CMOD. for populating the dates for every previous week and month dynmically.

The report has 34 variants for which the date ( 0calday) RANGE has to be populated dynamically when I am running the report in the background using Reporting agent( using 'Precaculating of Web templates...as reporting agent setting).
My concern is ..
1. How can I dynamically populate the dates(0calday) for running the report weekly and monthly for all 34 varinats in the report in the backgrond?( since dont want to manually enter the date range for all 34 variants of the report)
2. Since I am using precalculating web templates as reporting agent setting should I have to create webtemplate on the query ( if so ..will it automatically run the 34 variants) or should I create web template for 34 variants using query views ( even then the dates has to be populated automatically/dynamically)?
For eg. If I am running the report on 1s t June....for Monthly the date range should be 5/1/2009 to 5/31/2009 and for weekly I run the report on sunday of every week..so if i run the report on 6/14/2009 then the date range should be 6/5/2009 to 6/13/2009.
The date range should be populated DYNAMICALLY , since I don't want to manulally give the date range for all 34 varinats every time I run the report.
Please suggest.

Variants in BEx Query.

I've created a variant on a Bex Query. When I run the query in the browser, I see a complete list of all variants created by everyone in our team for that query. I really want to restrict the variants created by user to be displayed for that user. How can I do this?

Hi,
first of all, u can save variants for web reports globally (for one report, visible for all users) and locally (user specific variant).
Global variant: At the selection screen u choose "Save as variant". Disable "save as user variant". There u can enter a discription and a technical name. The variant is visible for all users.
Local Variant: At the selection screen u choose "Save as variant". Enable "save as variant". Enter only the description without a technical name. The variant is only visible by the author of this variant.
The same feature is available for BEx Analyzer 7.0 on SP 16.

Error while running a Query on webi

Hi Folks
I just installed a BOBJ edge standard 3.1 and trying to configure and test it the very first time, I have following issues if you can advise the solution., I would really appreciate.
1. when i try to create a test query on Webi Rich Client and and run query, I get the follow messge:
A databse error occured. The database error text is : [Microsoft] [ODBC Microsoft access driver] could not use (unknown);
file already in use (WIS 10901)
2. The other issue I have is that when i create a test query on the webi (infoview side) and try to run the query I dont see any result like column, rown or fields, all I see is a solid yellow block which I believe is because of kmissing Java connector. can you guys pls let me know if this is the reason I dont see the report or Is there any other reason for that.
I would appreciate your help on this.

What type of database did you build your universe on? Access? SQL Server? or other? You would need to go into the universe you are trying to use for the report go into File, Parameters, and see what your connection is, and while you're there, click "test" to be sure it is working. If not, that is your problem. If it is, but the report still is not working, either way, you will need to go into Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Data Sources (ODBC) and set up a system DSN that links to the correct database. Again test it to be sure it works. Then make sure the universe has a connection that uses this same DSN. The report should run.

Hi Oscar ,
You need to create optional date prompt variable in BW which fills your requirement .
Ex : If you require report should always run for 1st of the month to last of month .Then create Optional date variable in BW with interval .write customer exit ,
if from date is left blank it should take 1st of the month and if todate is left blank it should take last of the month .
when creating webi schedules , leave prompts as blank.
