Error in execute planning sequence variant in process chain

Hi ,
While creating an Execute planning sequence variant in process chain in Quality system , i am getting an error" variable variant not selected ' though i created a variable variant and selected it in execute planning seq variant.
Transporting it from development system didnt work therefore i am trying to create it directly in Quality .
Any idea what could be the issue.

Variable variant can be saved for planning sequence in modeler and then cab be used in process chains.
In process chain you can choose "Execute planning sequence"( separate process type) and add planning sequence with variant.

Program Variant in Process Chain

Hi All,
I have to execute a program in a Process Chain. I have included a process variant to execute the program. Now, this program bring us to a screen, where we need to click on the execute button to run that program. I need to add a program variant for this i guess. Can any one give me the procedure how to do this?

The program that you have written should run in background.
We use Variants for ABAP programs to be run in the Process Chain
- Create an ABAP variant
- Choose call mode "Synchronous", Called from "Local". Thats mostly the default we use. choose according to your requirement.
- Choose "Program". Choose the program name & the variant n ame. Its better if you create the variant while testing the program in sa38. Later you can use the same variant in the Process Chain ABAp variant OR can create a new one. Set appropriate values.
Please note that if in SA38, your program ran successfully with the variant, it should run here as well.
That should do.

To create the program variant, first enter a name of your choice in the program variant field. Click Edit.
- Choose Create New
- Choose "Values". Click Change. In teh next screen, enter all the required parameters. Choose if its a SAP standard prog, or modified program.
- Check the attributes as well. It will usually choose selection screen 1000 as default. Let it be.

To accomplish this task, i have to create process variant. please tell me the step by step process how to create process variant and successfully add the compression to the process chain. The process variant is the name of the process Within the process chain context, it displays the configuration of a process of a particular type set at the time of definition. A variant is only consistently defined together with the process type. A process can have various variants. With the load process for example, the name of the InfoPackage is the name of the process variant.
The user defines the process variant at the time when the process is scheduled. With some process types, the variants are determined internally and are stored as GUIDs.

You can create process chains directly in Production. Most of the times system allows(depends on system settings). But this is not a proper way of working. Create in Development and transport it to Production.

Re-using variants in process chains

Hi experts,
Need some clarification on variants used in process chains. I have variants created as they are needed when adding steps like activating an ods. However, I need to re-use this step (activating the ods) in another chain, however I cannot seem to reuse the existing variant as it is a 1-1 relationship (e.g. 1 variant to 1 chain). Is this a limitation to process chains or is there a way to reuse a variant since the step is exactly the same?

U can reuse the Varian no problem ..
just search the varian and select it . and then u just need to insert it and while inserting it will ask u "whud i need to display the corresponding PCs attached to this variant " if u dont want u just click on "No" so u can get the Process variant on the maintainnance screen ..
It not like one Process varian to one PC

Delete psa variant in process chain

Hi all,
I am trying to create deletion of request from PSA and when I go to create the variant and new screen comes up where I have to specify a object type and then object name. also at the bottom there are 4 options older than __ days page before __date
only successfully booked/updated request
only those request with errors, that are not booked in data target.
Can someone tell how to deal with all these fields, in that object field and name do we have to specify an infooject? or can we just say anything older that 20 days and create a generic variant to use for all the process?

Well, I can try to explain in short:
No real best practice for number of process chains, but the way they are structured in our system is by applications: COPA, SD, Purchasing, CRM applications, Inventory, and some other custom applications. These are the process chains (can be several in each area) that take care of the transactional data load...and also other data load processes: compression, roll up, activate ODS data etc.
Master data load chains are divided as Daily, Weekly and Monthly. Of course several master data loads are also included in the transactional chains if we are doing a look up in the update rules, or may be some master data comes from the transactional datasource.
Other than that there is the PSA delete chain that was discussed above.

PSA Deletion variant in Process chain

When I add more than one PSA tables in one process step of Process chain would the deletion happen sequentially or parallelly?
In other words, if I have some 20 PSA tables to be deleted, can I put all of them in one step or should I put them in different steps - some 4 or 5 steps - to reduce load on system? (I need to keep only 2 days data in each table).

Hi,
it will happen sequentially. You can put them in one process step.
However, I recommend to include the PSA deletion systematically in each corresponding chain since you can control it and monitor it better.

Hi,
Every process step is associated with a variant (process step actually <b>is</b> a variant). To exchange the variant would mean removing the existing one and replacing it with another.
After exchanging it click "check". The interface is somewhat buggy...

Info Spoke - Process Chain - OS Command usage help

I am new to BW. My requirement is to extract the master data off of BW data targets on a weekly basis and ftp the files onto a different server.
To meet this requirement, I am planning to create InfoSpoke(s), put it in a Process chain and using the OS Command ftp the files to different server.
Is this the right way to do it or are there any better ways? If it is, I need help on where to give the target server name, user_id and PSW in the OS Command variant of Process Chain.
Also, is it possible to schedule a Infospoke directly from the scheduler (Auotsys...) and still execute weekly/monthly?

That's correct. You'll define the command under the general services tab in the process chain transaction (It's labeled OS Command and is a silver circle thing with a blue dot in it).
When you drag it into the process chain it will ask for a varient. In the System Command field for this varient is where you'll define the actual command. (little pencil button next to it). At this point you can call a script that does the copy or call an actual command that does the copy.
Might be easier to control with a script that does the work but if you want to call rcp/scp, the os command will be rcp and parameters will be the filename, etc. If it's a script then you'll just enter the name of the script in the os command field.

EXOR in transport requests process chains

Hi gurus,
Can anyone tell me if it is possible to save EXOR process variants of process chains in transport requests? If so, how can it be done?
I am able to save AND process type in workbench requests but it doesn't work for EXOR. I have checked in Transport Connection tab in rsa1 and there seems to be no option available to collect the EXOR variant.
Please help.

Please try collecting again iin transport, If not then please try collecting the variants manually:
Follow the below steps:
1) Open you chain in RSPC1.
2) Click on Transport symbol present at the top.
3) You will be routed to the RSA1 screen. Click on Package and check if the EXOR variant is selected or not. In case not select it & then click on transport objects.

Set time for process chain

Hi,
I have requirement to set maximum time to run the process chain.
For example:
Process chain is starting daily at 10 PM and taking time 1hr 30 min to complete process. Some times it is taking 2-3 hours to complete process.
So I need to set max. time 2 hours to complete process chain. If not completed with in 2 hours (before 12PM), then the process chain should be cancelled.
Please help me in this regard.

Process chain is not triggering through event after BW Upgrade

Many of our process chains are event based.
After BW upgrade 7.0 to BW 7.31 we tried to trigger the event through SM64 Tcode. But the process chains are not getting triggered.
Could anyone please guide me what might be the issue.
