Various errors, incorrect version of track (from iCloud restore) from an iTunes album

Sorry for being a bit vague describing the problems but they are too complicated to summarize in 1 sentence.
I bought a number of albums from iTunes last December, including LeAnn Rimes "I Need You".  I have a car that allows me to play iTunes music copied onto its HD from a USB drive.  I copied the iTunes music from my MacBook Pro onto the USB drive and then transferred the music to the HD in my car.
I subsequently discovered that some of the music was skipping when played in my car and the dealer thought the HD in the stereo only supports MP3.  It was strange because track 4 in "I Need You" sounded very odd, like it was not the original track from the album but a re-mixed version.  I thought it was corrupted due to the MP4 format not being supported.  At any rate I decided to convert the iTunes tracks to MP3 on my MacBook Pro using iTunes 11.0.4
I selected all the iTunes albums and instructed iTunes to make MP3 copies.
When iTunes got to the 4th track in "I Need You", it reported an error trying to copy the track and stopped.  When I tried to manually copy the track, iTunes said my computer was not authorized to play the track and asked me to log in.  When I logged in, iTunes said the computer was already authorized and that I had 1 computer authorized and could authorize 5.  When I tried to play the track, I got the same iTunes error about not being authorized again.
When I did a "Get info" on the track I noticed it was purchased on the same occasion as all the other tracks in that album but unlike the other tracks it was missing the name of the person who bought it - me.
I deleted the track and enabled iCloud to download another copy.  That worked but the track that was downloaded sounds very strange, not like the original track of the album but like a re-mixed version. like the one that played in my car.  Track #4 "You Are" from the "I Need You" LeAnn Rimes album is from 2001, an old album.  But the re-downloaded version sounds like a recent re-mix.  I know this because I have 2 iPads which also contain copies of this iTunes album.
The newer iPad Mini syncs with my Mac frequently and has weird problems with this same album (phantom duplicate tracks that don't play anything) and when I try to play track 4 it plays track 5 instead.  On the other hand my iPad 2 is still running iOS 5 and it plays the original track #4 correctly and has no strange issues with anything.  The iPad 2 does not get synced very often because it stays at home whereas the iPad Mini travels with me.
I suspect my iTunes library got corrupted by iCloud.  The version of track 4 for "I Need You" is not the track I bought.  There was a recent occasion when I noticed iCloud was enabled on my MacBook Pro out of the blue without my permission and all my music were showing duplicates.  I turned off iCloud and thought it was some sort of fluke occurrence.  But now, I think it may have a connection to my problem today.  iCloud may have downloaded a new version of the track to my iTunes library on my MacBook.
What is going on with this iTunes album???  How can I restore my libraries with the correct album tracks?  Can someone in iTunes please contact me - I can play both copies of the track and you can judge for yourself.  This is really bizarre.
Thanks.

I agree the track was somehow corrupted but it was likely not during the original download as it played just fine for over 4 months.  Another USB drive copy of the same track also plays fine on my other vehicle's stereo.  My concern is primarily regarding how it got "munged" on my MacBook.  Maybe it's getting old.  I notice my battery is on its last legs.
Fair enough, although the age of the file really has nothing to do with it. Digital files do not degrage over time like, say, a printed piece of paper.
I suppose what could have happened is the track could have become damaged by copying it around on storage media that might have damaged blocks. But that is just speculation on my part. I don't know how accurate it might be. At any rate a simple re-download from your purchase history, or restoration from your backups should solve the problem.

OK well, I think all that stuff about licensing is not true, unless explicitly stated
Just working off a gut feeling (or perhaps just wishing it weren't true)?  I suggest actually checking:

Typically any mention of ripping DVDs may get a topic removed from the ASC forums since it is discussion of an "illegal activity" and subject to Terms of Use.
The key thing here is if you upload a file to your library, then try to replace that same file with the same file name, iTunes will ignore it and NOT overwrite the file that's already there. You have to delete the file off first and THEN add to library again.
Correct, iTunes works on a file basis not a track label basis.  That's why I said delete the old file.  You could have 20 identical files with the same name (in different folders) and iTunes will add them all right next to each other.  Nothing new in iTunes behavior there.  In fact if you had gone to the location where the media file was stored and copied a new one over the old one with the same name I believe iTunes would still know it wasn't the original.  You can, however, edit a file using a third party tool and save it in place and iTunes will accept the changes without having to re-add the file.

  • HT201272 one track from a downloaded album (dire straits-brothers in arms) ends after 55 seconds and is unavailable to download again. any suggestions?

downloaded this album and track 2 (brothers in arms) shows on device and in library as being 7.03 minutes long, however after .55 seconds it ends. i've looked to download again but that is not an option. please can anyone help?
i've also re synced without any success.

Try deleting the problematic tune (electing to remove original file if/when prompted) and then re-downloading the file from the iTunes store.
You can re-download content purchased from the iTunes store (availability varies depending on location) using the purchased option from the Quick Links section in the top right corner of the iTunes homepage in your iTunes application on your computer.
You can re-download content purchased from the iTunes store (availability varies depending on location) using the purchased option at the bottom of the screen of the iTunes app on your iOS device.
If the problem re-occurs, select the content which is causing a problem and use the 'Report a problem' button in Your Purchase History using your computer.

  • Missing track from new Bassnectar album

Track 2- No Way is missing from the new Bassnectar album. What gives?

If the track doesn't appear automatically once the album download is complete, look under the Store menu in iTunes for the "Check for available downloads" command and run that. You may find the track there to be downloaded.
If not, contact the iTunes Store Customer Service department through the form you'll find by selecting the most applicable section of their Support page (that is how you get support from the iTunes Store) and explain the problem to them.

  • Copying certain tracks from old iTunes to new library

I have iTunes on the Mac OS 9 partition of a G3 iMac and want to copy certain tracks from that into the iTunes library of my iTunes on my Mac Mini OS X.4.8 I have in the past copied entire libraries between computers using firewire, but this time I just want to add to my present computer a few tracks that are in the old one.
I remember about a year ago reading about a utility whereby you set up the two libraries side by side onscreen and moved whatever track you wanted across in either direction. I can't locate that or remember the name.
    Any help appreciated.

    Hi there,
I copied the whole entire iTunes folder into my music directory on my new mac (as I had my own account on his mac), and then once that was done I dragged and dropped this folder onto my iTunes icon.
It's imported playlists, but not star ratings.
Is there something I should have done before exporting my music onto my hardrive in the first place? I've read somewhere about exporting ratings or exporting playlists or something....
    Cheers,
    Hannah

  • Hi, iTunes 11.1 don't tell me the duration of two or more tracks from the same album, which iTunes 10. did. How come? It is possible that the new version lacks such a possibility? Thanks

Hi, thanks to whoever will be able to respond - which the Apple assistance on line in Italy could not do, after minutes of conversation!
The point is that I cannot see anymore the total duration of two or more audio tracks selected from the same CD, but only the duration of the whole CD.
With the previous version of iTunes this was very easy, as I simply clicked on the tracks the interested me and I suddenly had the total time.
It makes no sense that Apple provides a new version which lacks one of the endless options of the program, therefore I hope it's only my faul in not being able to understand what to do. Otherwise, please tell me how can I downgrade and go back to iTunes 10....

  • HT204266 If I have a play list of various artists and on this list I have two tracks from the same album how can I combine those two tracks to play as one if I am using the shuffle feature?

An example would be Jackson Browne's "The Load Out" &" Stay".They should play one after the other but in a play
list on shuffle setting they don't. How do I combine two songs so they play as one in a shuffled playlist

When I import my music files to iTunes will I be creating new files for every file I import? If the answer is YES; where are those files going to be stored and how much space will they use?
To begin with you can't manage FLAC in iTunes. The use of iTunes is at this moment limited to WAV, AIFF, Apple Lossless, AAC and MP3. But that's not a problem because if I understand you correctly you want to organize the MP3-files in iTunes.
When you import music files you can let iTunes copy all files and put it in an iTunes-media-Folder. You can make the choice in preferences-->tab advanced.
If you deselect the second blue checkbox (sorry, in Dutch) iTunes won't copy files as you import the files in your library. It will use the files from the place they are on the disk now. So you have a choice. But if you want iTunes to copy them, they will be placed in a folder called iTunesMedia. This is how it placed on your disk.
All files will be put in one music folder well ordered by artist and albums. If you want to make a backup of all your music you just have to copy the iTunes folder to another disk. You can backup all music at once. How much space they will use depends on the bitrate of the MP3 and whether you add more tagging to it. You can have iTunes add album artwork. That means adding gif or jpg files to your library. Are you using bitrate 320 for your MP3?
If you tell me I can give you estimates on the disk-space you will need.

  • A track from a downloaded album failed

I purchased an album from Itunes, all track download except on which failed. How do I get this track to try and download again??

Doublechecking. Do you get an error message when you try to download that one track? If so, what does it say? (Precise text, please. Include error message numbers if you're getting any.)

  • I am trying to make a mix on Garage Band by dropping songs in the tracks from an ITunes playlist.  I have done this many many times and suddenly I am unable to drop the tracks into Garage band.  They swoosh right back into the iTunes playlist

Suddenly I am unable to transfer songs from iTunes to Garage Band.  When I try to bring the songs over to Garage Band they will not drop into the track.  They immediately go back into iTunes.  I have made many mixes using GB and cannot figure out what has happened.  Ive looked through system prefences, help window, etc. and cannot understand what has happened.  Any advice?

either use the Media Browser in GB, or drop the actual song file into the timeline (cmnd-shift-r will reveal the file from iTunes):

  • How to combine tracks from downloaded unknown album

I'm downloading cd's into itunes...it comes up unknown album then just gives me track 1, track2, etc.   I would like to put all these tracks back into a album then manually name the album.

When you insert a CD and it displays the list of tracks...
Press Cmd+A to select all tracks
Pres Cmd+I to get info for all tracks
Add the Artist, Album Artist, Album name, Year, Genre, Total track count, Disc number and whatever else you want for the imported tracks as an album, and click OK.
For the individual tracks, click the first track and press Cmd+I again, and add the Title and track number, then click Next to go to the second track and so on until you've named and numbered all tracks.
    Or
In your iTunes preferences, under the General tab,  there's a check box to "Automatically retrieve CD track names from the Internet".
Check that and almost ANY commercially produced CD will cause iTunes to accedd the Gracenote CDDB database and add the info automatically.

  • Ipod reorders tracks from what itunes shows

I put the NKJV Bible on my Ipod. The tracks are named 01Gen001,01Gen002,01Gen003, etc. It shows them in the correct order when I look at the files in itunes on my ipod. But when I unplug the ipod the tracks are arranged in a random order. Is there a simple fix for this problem other than renaming the 1152 tracks?

I have this exact same problem.. exactly.. and it breaks my balls.  I am not OCD about songs, but it's nice to be able to put all the songs of one artist on, without whole albums being repeated with other albums missing songs like you said.  I hope someone cleans this act up for us. Peace
UPDATE: I might have figured it out... randomly some songs in an album are marked as "part of compilation".  It turns out this is messing everything up! when you untick it and add them back into your ipod.. ORDER IS RESTORED!! YES!!! i was losing sleep with this ****. x
