Varying levels in a clip

Hi there,
I am new to Final Cut Pro.
I shot a performane using a Panasonic AG-HVX200. It was a reading, and the two performers sat in front of a projection screen that ran a film clip.
The problem is that I forgot to disable the autmatic settings on the camera. Since the other performances were without the projection, they all recorded fine. But on this one, the camera changes the settings every time the background gets brighter or darker.
Is there a way to get FCP to look at the clip and equalize the brightness settings?
Thanks in advance for any help!

That would be done by an editor/colorist - not automatically by software. Although you could try one of the Broadcast Safe filters to keep whites legal.
Or you could cut the clip up into bright scenes and regular scenes. If the bright scenes were all pretty much the same, you could adjust one clip with the appropriate filter, then copy that clip. Next, select all other bight scenes, right-click on one and select Paste Attributes / Filters to adjust all the others with one action.

  • Different zoom levels for different clips in the same project?

    Hi
I am making a movie with videos from two different cameras. As a result some of the clips are cut down in size to a small portion of the screen. This can be solved if it is possible to use different zoom levels for different clips in the same project. I have not been able to do this. Is it possible?
    kind regards
    Soren

You can scale the small clips up to the same size of the larger one... but you will get a quality loss.
Using Motion or Scale to Frame Size commands
Better to scale the large ones down to a Sequence that matches the smaller clip dimensions.

  • Is there a way to level a video clip.

I'm using Adobe Premiere Elements 12.  Is there a way to level a video clip?  The video camera was slightly tilted so the horizon line is not straight. I'm not seeing an editing tool for this.
    Thanks.

If you select the clip on the timeline, click Applied Effects and open the Motion effects, you can adjust the rotation.

  • Adjusting audio levels in a clip

I've just stepped up to iMovie 08 and I cant seem to find a way of creating different audio levels for the one clip. It seems like there is just one audio level *per clip*. Unlike the old version where you could adjust the audio 'wave' up and down where ever you wanted.
    Is this correct.

It's a while since I used iMovie '08, but from memory I think the audio worked in a similar fashion to iMovie '09. In iMovie '09 you can right-click (Control-click) on a clip, then select Split Clip from the pop-up menu. First, click and drag across the clip to highlight with a yellow border the section where you wish to adjust the volume. Then right-click and choose Split Clip. The section you highlighted will now show as a separate clip.
Click on the small gear icon on the separated clip and choose Audio Adjustments from the pop-up menu. In the Inspector that opens you can adjust the volume of the clip. Also, if you have a separate music track or voiceover running under the clip, you can use the Ducking feature to reduce the volume of the other tracks. Tick the Ducking box and move the slider to the desired level. You can also fade the audio in and out on the main video track for the separated clip.
Sorry if this advice is not entirely applicable to iMovie '08 (I don't have access to that version at the moment). But this is how it works in iMovie '09, if that helps at all.

  • Audio level settings for clips

is there an easier way to change audio levels of a batch of clips in the timeline, other than going through them one by one ?
    cheers

yes... select all the clips on the timeline you want to change, then press commandoptionL (altappleL) which will bring up the Gain Control window... you can enter a value here, and all the selected clips will change accordingly.
In the options box of this window you have Relative and Absolute... Relative means that each clip will be adjusted by the value you enter relative to it's current setting... Absolute means that, no matter what the clips are set at, every clip will change to the value you enter...
    Good luck.

  • Levels adjusment : the clipping size

    Hi,
I started working on PSCC this week...
migrating from PSCS3, I notice a big change inside the levels adjustment window, as the visual
clipping thing is twice smaller than what I get in cs3.
I've found no way to re-size the clipping zone so far... so if anyone could bring me
confirmation on this mater of fact, I would be grateful.

Thank you for your gentleness....it's about adjustment layer,
here I've enlarged the properties area, to see if there is any incidence on the clipping zone size

  • Matching audio levels in disparate clips

Hi. I'm compiling a DVD that has clips from various sources. Some of them are old DVD projects that I've had to extract clips from, using MPEGStreamClip.
My problem is getting a uniform volume setting amongst all the clips: Some are low volume, and some are high (or optimal) volume.
Does DVDSP allow for the "regulation" of individual track volumes? This is vexing me to no end.
    Thanks

I had to go back and re-encode to get my levels to match. It was a PITA, but I got it done.
This is a feature that Apple needs to put into DVDSP: the ability to change individual track levels or normalize (set all to the same peak level) all tracks.
When doing a compilation of clips, demo reels, etc., one is likely to encounter all variations of audio levels and amounts of audio-hardware-type compression.
Having to convert an ac3 to QT, or some other format and then re-compress it back to ac3 is going to irrevocably degrade the audio quality.
It'd also nice to be able to do audio and video fades withing DVDSP.

  • Level out Audio clips to -6db without going into SoundBooth.

    Hi,
I'm trying to level out Audio in my Premiere Pro CS 5.5 timeline.
Here's what I've done so far, and it sounds OK.
I laid my 12 minute on a timeline. I then went into Soundbooth from Premiere Pro. I wemt to Process ------ Hard Limit.
It brought up the levels a lttle bit.
I saved it, wemt back in Premiere Pro and clicked on my AudioTrack, I went to Audio Effects and raised the volume to 6 DB. It was still a little low so I added another volume effect from the Audio Effects folder onto the Audio Clip in the timeline. I then raised that up to 6DB as well. Now it sounds good.
The first time I did this I put the clip on the timeline, went into SoundBooth and put a Process ------ "Equalize Volume" on the clip.
I went back into Premiere and when I played it back, the levels were perfect, but the audio would go up and down when someone was not speaking. It was annoying.
So that's why I did the "Hard Limit" I described above.
    Now my question:
Is there a way to level out all of my Audio to -6 without going into SoundBooth? I would like to do it only in Premiere if possible.
If not, How can I get the best possible sound that is level and does not go up and down when someone is not speaking?
    Thanks in advance.
    Premiere Pro CS 5.5
    Soundbooth 5

Apply an effect in the MIxer ton the tracack that you want to contyrol.
You have t olook a little for the Effects Twirl down Triangle thingy.  Adobe HIde this stuff a bit. ( Check the Manual).
Next . It s perfectly normal to "ride" the levels of any  audio.  ( Music,FX and Voice). Do it in the MIxer.THe MIxer in PPRO is morte powerful than many realise
.BTW - Sound Booth is a dog - compared to Audition or ProTools or even Premiere (for most people)

  • Photoshop CC video: Where is the audio flyout menu? I want to set the audio level of a clip but when I click the little triangle the flyout only offers Motion options, no audio.

I created a video clip by ripping from a (non-protected) DVD & brought it into Photoshop CC for editing. I want the audio to fade in & out but cannot find any audio controls!
The info I've found online says to click the little triangle at the right end of the clip & I should get the audio flyout menu, but all I get is a menu with "Motion" options.
Please help!! Where are the audio options I see on the tutorials?
    Thanks ...

The audio was indeed in there; I could hear it! But I found the fix:
Some Googling revealed that the timeline video sprites should appear *blue*, not purple as in my screenshot. I'm not sure how that happened, but I scrapped the project & restarted from scratch - and though I can't say what I did differently, this time the video sprite in the timeline was blue, and the audio flyout was there! So it's all good, thanks!

  • How can an ADF Tree be configured to work with varying levels of heirarchy?

We have a need for a Locations tree that represents the Locations heirarchy for any one of our clients. Depending on the client the number of levels in a location heirarchy could range from 1 to 9.
I have created 9 different tree bindings and I can change the tree binding in the jsp page - the example below is for a client with 4 location levels.
    <af:tree value="#{bindings.ScdLocs4View1.treeModel}" var="node"
    binding="#{backing_locations.tree2}" id="tree2">
For a client with 5 location levels, I'd like to programatically change the value to
#{bindings.ScdLocs5View1.treeModel.  How can I do this?
I was thinking I could use the setValue method on the tree control in my page's backing bean.  But I have been unable to get a reference to the tree binding.
I don't see an appropriate method for finding a Tree Binding.  There are methods for finding an Iterator Binding, an Executable Binding, or a Region Binding (whatever that is).  But how do I "find" a reference to a Tree Binding?
I have also given consideration to using a single Tree Binding with 9 levels (or rules in the Tree Binding Editor) and finding a way to  programatically "start" the rendering at a particular level (or rule) - in effect telling the ADF Tree control to ignore some number of rules and begin with the specified rule.  But I haven't been able to figure out how to do this either.
    Help would be greatly appreciated.

    Bill,
A tree binding is a particular kind of control binding, so you can find it as a control binding and then cast it to the more specific interface to work with it.

  • Joining 2 universes with varying levels of hierarchies

    Hello,
I have universe A which has dimensions whaich are at certail level say level 3, while I also have universe B which has dimensions at another level say level 5.  Now I want to join Universe A and B to form universe C.  Is it possible to join them together if both universes are at different levels?
I need to perform drill thru from Universe A to B or alternatively in the master universe C.
Any sugestions, pointers and work arounds are greatly appreciate.
    abhi

    Hello,
Thanks for the insite, I will try it out.  However I am not sure how one you use the hide capabilities in Xcelsius, and how it would be applied this this context.   Do you have any examples of drill down and filters or combo box selectors.
I need to select the data in the dashboard based on say 5 filter values. Eg) State (drop down), City(drop down), Year (drop down), Lin of Business (drop down) and Premium Type(drop down)
depending on the values selected.  I need to show 2 charts.  One chart on the top should show the Premuims Year To Date (YTD) of 2007 and 2008.  The chart below should drill down to Jan, Feb, Mar for year 2007 and 2008.    I also need to enter textual informaton (summary info) as well.
Do you have any examples which would be closer to what I am looking at, besides the one presented in the schema layer
    Thanks

  • Can't edit sound level through a clip?

Im waiting for my software here in Spain and I can't believe that

I can't believe it either. I've always bragged to people about how many features iMovie '06 has, and to think that now it's gone? (Well, iMovie '06 isn't gone, but . . . ) I get my copy of iLife tomorrow, so I'll be reporting back (as will many of us).
    Say it ain't so, Steve!

  • Trouble with snoowball usb mic  in GB3....low volume levels or bad clipping

I have rebooted the computer several times. This usb mic has no driver software and was working fine until I got a audio core driver message of some sort.
    Any pointers?

    dollarblower,
If it's not the Snowball, then I'm not sure.
You can give the following a try; I don't know if it will help you, but it won't hurt you, and it often solves weird issues in GB:
    Use Disk Utility to repair your system permissions (/Applications/Utilities);
Then, trash your GarageBand Preference files (don't worry, it will replace them; you can reset any prefs to what they were in the app)
    Search for the two files:
    com.apple.garageband.cs -and-
    com.apple.garageband.plist
    and discard them.
(Normally, they are in /Library/Preferences/ or in user/Library/Preferences/
but do a search to make sure you get all the copies.)

  • How can multiple speaker outputs be created with varying volume levels and retain keyboard master volume control? Multi-output and aggregate both cannot adjust sub-devices and lose keyboard volume control capabilities on my Mac. What's the solution?

Is it my Mac? Is there software I need? An app perhaps? This seems way too complicated to set up spkrs. I'm attempting to use 2 hdmi and 1 headphone outputs w/ control and varying levels (ie hdmi's quieter than desk spkrs) thanks for suggestions! -Tim

    Hi Tim,
Not sure since I'm deaf, but if possible I'd think...
Open Audio Midi Setup in Applications>Utilities, see the input & output options & KHz setting there.

  • Adjusting different audio clips levels?

Working in FCP and have a project with a lot of small individual clips of people speaking and each clip is at a different audio level. What's the best and easiest way to adjust the audio on each individual clip without over doing it labor wise?
    Thanks
    RD

Open each clip in Soundtrack Pro and normalize them to -6db. That will give you a reliable baseline for all the clips, and put the peak levels right where you want them.
Then, either in STP or back in FCP, adjust the level of each clip so the average dialog level is around -12db. Do this both by ear and watching the audio meter.
I suppose in FCP you could do the avg level adj. by keyframing the audio level, too. That would stay with the clip before you put it in a timeline. To use the faders you need to have the clip already placed in the sequence timeline.
If you find you need to raise the level of the normalized clip to get the avg. level to -12db, then you better put a limiter on the clip to keep the peak below -6db.
