Varying speedtest results

I am trying to figure out why out of my three PC's on my home network, the one running XP, also the oldest, gets the fastest and most consistant speedtest results., usually around 25-27mb.  the other two run Vista 32bit and one gets around 9-15mb consistantly whilst the other one (the newest PC) gets completely unstable speedtests.  By unstable I mean the needle hovers on say 5 or 6mb and then shoots up to a ridiculous speed like 169mb and settles on a result of 20 something.  I am also having big trouble streaming video on this machine, constant buffering and thats with standard resolution.
They all run Kaspersky 2012, Firefox lastest version with no script.

Don't worry about the Home Network 100Mbps... That is the Ethernet Port speed you've connected to when wired.
See my wired 100Mbps pic below..... You could see if it changes if you move to the Gig ethernet port.
I've never tried that port.
If your ethernet ports are playing up... say dropping down to 10Mbps causing streaming issues, investigation is underway see the many pages here.-
 http://community.bt.com/t5/BB-Speed-Connection-Issues/HomeHub-3-LAN-speeds-only-10Mb/m-p/390205#M116...
However a simple factory reset might cure http://community.bt.com/t5/BT-Infinity/Finally-a-fault-Hub3/m-p/359635#M21296
I use AVG for my antivirus protection... Free version of course  And have never had any streaming or test result probs.
I don't know if it would be possible to pause the Kapersky and use AVG then try some streaming just to completely eliminate the possibility Kapersky is interfering with your streaming.
Perhaps someone else might suggest another way ...... Nige maybe?

  • LG G2 speedtest results in Richmond, VA

Got this LG G2 on Black Friday. While the overall performance of the phone is excellent, I am a bit worried with the speedtest results (ookla). I see an average of 2 / <1 Mbps. Also the signal bars are rarely at full strength. Anyone else experiencing this issue?

  • BT Speedtester results - no assured rate

Download speedachieved during the test was - 7705 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speedsis 1000-7150 Kbps.
     Additional Information:
     Your DSL Connection Rate :9356 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 1048 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 8000 Kbps
The throughput of Best Efforts (BE) classes achieved during the test is - 12.71:22.12:65.18 (SBE:NBEBE)
These figures represent the ratio while sententiously passing Sub BE, Normal BE and Priority BE marked traffic.
The results of this test will vary depending on the way your ISP has decided to use these traffic classes.
So these are the results of my speedtest.  There's no 'assured rate' result so I'm assuming there's no QoS running on my line.  Is this normal, should I be worried, what are the likely affects on my BTVision?
    Thanks in advance

  • Confusing Speedtest result

ok, to cut a long story short our broadband has been fixed this week by a friendly engineer (that was not meant in a sarcastic way he WAS a very nice and helpful lad) he said our broadband should be capable of doing up to 18Mb according to what the instruments said. we thought whoopee cool!
anyway he mentioned it'll take a few days to settle in, which was not a problem for us. that was this week on Monday.
the DL speed was approx 14Mb until Tuesday night then it suddenly dropped down to 3.5Mb and stayed that way. the upstream was 0.5Mb around that time.
i kept checking the speed with speedtester.net which works faster and is actually quite precise. ok you don't get the extra info but i wasn't bothered by it.
the daily check told me that the downstream stayed low on 3.5Mb but the upstream suddenly increased and is now around 0.9Mb.
so i thought it was time to give the bt speedtest another whirl today and the result is somehow mindboggling odd.
i have to add the router is now running without any interruption since tuesday.

so my question is why aren't i getting the speed the DSL Connection Rate claims i should have and the engineer said was easily possible.
it's like someone left the handbreak on for the downstream, whereas we never had such a cracking good upstream.
can someone give our downstream a gently nudge to wake it up please!
do i have to wait longer or should i ring up on Monday??

looking at btspeedtester results your profile is only 3500 which is why your download speed is so low for your 18mb connection.  Did you notice before the drop in download speed if your router reset a few times in quick succession as that could be enough with 21CN aggressive nature on noise to drop your profile.
what is your connection time from the router?  is it staying connected now 24/7?
it may help if you posted the adsl stats from your router and someone may be able to offer help/suggestions to get your profile back to normal

  • Iphone 4s speedtest results not the same as imac's

i ran a speedtest on both products (same wifi network of course) and the download speed of my iphone is way too low compared to my imac's. just .5 mbps vs 3mbps on the imac. i already did the network reset on my iphone but still the same results. do i need to do something or do i just have to have my iphone replaced? thanks.
btw, when i ran a test using my network's 3G, it showed higher results compared to the wifi.

They should be comparable, but they will never be the same.  The computer has a faster processor so it should be able to download and process the data faster.
    Are the speeds dramatically different?

  • Can someone decipher Speedtest results for me?

I downloaded the speed test x HD app just to see if I'm having the same kind of spotty slow wifi other complain about on the iPad. But to be honest i have no idea about what the results mean. Could some kind helpful tech savvy person give me a crash course in what my results mean? Here they are. Thanks ahead of time for the help
    Download speed: 5800.47 Kbps (5.66 Mbps / 725.06 KB/s)
    Total test time: 14.123 Seconds

It means your Download speed is 5800.47 Kilobits per sec = 5.66 Megabit per sec. (1 Mega = 1024 kilo, that is why the 2 numbers are not exactly the same.)
Your Upload speed is 725.06 kilo bits per sec.
Both speeds are very good for most purposes. That is very typical for most DSL or FiOS connection. Cable connections are usually much slower due to sharing the bandwidth with your neighbors.
The reason why the download speed is faster than the upload speed is because most DSL is actually aDSL, which means it is asymmetrical for upload/download. That is because most people download info from websites more so than uploading info back to the world, so the network carrier optimizes the performance by allocating more bandwidth to downloads than uploads. Otherwise, if the speeds are symmetrical, your download speed will be cut in half, even though your upload speed will go up, but if you are not using it, it is wasting it.
Total test time is 14.123 Seconds means it takes 14 sec to complete the round-trip testing between upload and downloads.
Speedtest X HD does not test for latency. Latency is the delay time between the time the signal is sent from the website to where you are. The latency usually increases with physical distance between 2 points, but other factors also affect the latency, such as the intermediate points that the signal has to hop through before it gets to your iPad, and the processing time it takes for those network equipment to relay the signal. That includes your own wireless router's processing time, and any other routers in transit, and also the software processing speed too.

  • Wiered speedtester results. Is this to hard for yo...

Hi,  At 13:30 today my HH v2 reset itself twice in the space of five minutes.  I have been facing HH resets of up to ten times a day.  Have tried more than one HH and still get the same resets happening, no matter which HH is plugged in.  The HH is plugged into the test point on the master socket, with filter aqnd is the only socket in the property.  No electrical items within fifteen feet.  Following is the latest speedtest and adsl status results.

One other thing is, that prior to the resets at 13:30 today the Line Attenuation had always been 60.0dB ever since being migrated to ADSL2.  I noticed that this went up to 62.0dB after the multi reset.  These resets were not manual and happened just as I was walking past the HH.  So in this case, the right place at the right time or I might of not noticed that a double reset had happened.
What do you make of it?  Thanks in advance.  By the way, BT/W say that they have no record of there ever being a disconnection, even whenan engineer has been to my property or to the exchange.

The Profile has reset to 1500, sometime during the night.  The trouble is that no matter which HH I have connected,l it keeps resetting up to ten times a day.  All I get from India is, that it must be my computer or laptop that has a fault or that BT/W dose not see any disconnection at their end and if they don't see any disconnect's then it can't be happening.  So therefore I the customer must be giveing false information.  As I said before, BT/W has their set minimum for a line and as long as the speed that you are getting is above that  and they don't see a fault on the line when they run their test's then they ain't going to do anything to help.  I was told last night by India, that BT/W after doing test's found no fault and they rejected the request for investigation.  I was even told by India that the minimum DSL I should be getting is 2272Kbps.  India answer to the HH keep resetting, even though I have tried differant HH's is to send out another HH.  I will try it, but hold very little hope that it will cure the problem.  There is talk that it could be the card in the exchange that is overheating and needs to be replaced.

  • BT Speedtester results - recent problem

I run BT Speedtester every day (don't ask!) and have noticed a problem which first appeared on 8th July 2011.  About half of the tests now show a measured download speed in excess of the IP Profile, today being the worst example at 1597kbps against a Profile of 1000.  Looking back over many months of tests the line speed has consistently been 90-95% of the IP Profile, until this recent change.
Are there any legit reasons for this happening, or is this a known problem with the software?
    Thanks.

The DSL Connection rate shown by Speedtester has always been 1300-1800kbps, with a lower figure for the IP Profile.  If only the IP Profile and consequently download speed would sit consistently in that range I'd be very happy.
The frustrating thing is that for 6 months to March this year the download speed was steady day in, day out at about 1200kbps.  We're 5km from the exchange in rural Suffolk so anything over 1Mbps is good!  Since March it's oscillated widely, with a record low of 135kbps and a few maxima around 2Mbps, immediately following complaints to BT Broadband but then slowly declining again.
Recent line tests followed by pair swaps MAY have got to the root cause of the problem.  Currently we've had a straight week at just under 1Mbps on the Thinkbroadband speed tester, but now these odd glitches in the BT tester results have appeared.  With BT refusing to look at any speed data other than that produced by their own tester you can sense how unhappy I am with a possible bug in their system!

  • Inconsistent Speedtest Results

I recently noticed slow speeds so I tried two speedtests right after eachother.  The first was on speedtest.net and had this result: http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/4464458407  The second was on speedtest.comcast.net and had this result: http://results.speedtest.comcast.net/result/944128404.png Why the huge difference?  My internet speeds on all websites I've checked are consistent with the first, slower test.

This may now be fixed for you. If you check my thread "How do I report slow download speeds from out-of-area servers?" you'll see that it was spontaneously resolved around midnight mountain time. The problem seems to have been in Denver Comcast's network connection to the outside world. The Comcast network in Colorado, New Mexico and Arizona seems to be a common "local" network, and connecting from your home to that network always showed a good speed. That's why http://speedtest.comcast.com gave a good result: because it was local. However, if the data you were trying to download needed to come from outside those three states, it balked. That happened when either you used http://speedtest.comcast.com and pointed it to any server outside those three states (instead of just using the local default), or you used http://speedtest.net instead. I can't tell you whether it was deliberately fixed or whether it just happened because some machine got a scheduled reset at midnight. But it's OK now. Till the next time.

  • BT Speedtest result - should I be concerned?

Hi all, bit of a doofus whith all this im afraid so a simple question for you.. Im learning tho honest! Have had intermittent and complete loss of internet connection problems for some months now. Original problem was with excessive noise on the line which was resolved with an engineer visit. Very helpful and on time too he was i should add. This was back in July, have had 2 similar issues since and having had my speed reach the giddy heights of 7/8mb Ive just run a speedcheck and its down to 4.0 again. The engineer did say that if the speed didnt stabilise then the problem may be the hub. Internet has NOT been a problem with this speed but given its dropped back to 4 and has been there for some days should i be concerned it will dip again and I'll have the same issues as before. Also have BT Vision and this sometimes has a little interference and Im wondering if this would be down to the current speed again? Its getting a bit tiresome now, dont want to give it the commentators curse but if it should become an issue again this would be the 4th time in 2 months. Is 4.0 perfectly acceptable or should I be concerned. Sorry if this is simple stuff but im not sure if this is deemed an ok rate or not given it was up to 7/8 and the engineer did say if it drops too far I'll have issues again. Just wondering if it would be the hub itself or not as the guy suggested, Ive got one of the 'old' white ones. Apologies again for not being very technical!

Hi imjolly, thanks for that. Ran the adsl Ip test.. i think.. wasnt sure how to 'navigate to adsl' after entering in browser but if ive done right downstream was 4541 and all the subsections had a green tick next to them? Ran the speedtester and this showed a download speed of 4065 and stating 1000-4000 acceptable rate of speed for my connection so I assume this is then all ok. How do you 'navigate to adsl' after entering the Ip in browser tho, not sure i did that, how do you get all the reults of noise on line etc? Cheers

  • Bt SpeedTester Results

    Hello,
    Can anyone help?
My Internet speeds have dropped and i think its related to the software update.
I get this on BT SpeedTester
    Any help is greatly welcome
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Hi the reason your speed has dropped is that due to a number of disconnections of the hub it has caused the exchange equipment to seen your line as unstable and therefore now needs 5 days of constant connection 24/7 with NO manual restarts and you ip profile will rise automatically please remember not to restart the hub for any reason including the instruction in the speed test as thoist will start the time feriod all over again

  • Slow Speedtest results with Airport Extreme Card

    Hi,
We just upgraded our internet to a 5G network with TWC.  All the devices in our home are now speedtesting at 100 mb/s wonderfully.
    Except one.
My Mac Pro 8 Core 2009 4,1.  Running OSX 10.8.5
The mac pro is speedtesting at only 30 mb/s while everything else (MBP, MBA, iphone 5) all speddtesting at 100 mb/s.  Alla re connected to the new network.
Is the problem the older airport extreme card?  Or is there something I can do in settings or firmware upgrade to sort this?
Here are the specs of the Airport extreme card on the MP:
Card Type:    AirPort Extreme  (0x14E4, 0x8E)

  • BT speedtester results.....what does this mean ple...

I get a download reading of 2.2meg but there is a note which says 'IP profile for your line is 2500kbps'
Is that set by my IP provider? Demon are telling me I should get 5meg at least or are they restricting
    my speed?
The DSL connection rate is 5280.  What do these figures mean?
    Thanks!
