VAT and the Channel Islands

My monthly subscription includes a VAT charge which is not applicable in the Channel Islands.  How can I get this removed?

Hi Paul
I understand that VAT is not applicable in the Channel Islands but we can only zero rate the charges if a valid VAT ID is provided.
We are not set up to handle sales in certain regions including the Channel Islands due to VAT restrictions: http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/policy-pricing/adobe-stores-online-order-payment-faq.ht ml

  • I am based in the Channel Islands and want VAT refunded

I'm based in Jersey, Channel Islands, which is 0 rated for VAT so would like the VAT on my monthly subscription refunded. How do I get that to happen as over the year it will total £60 of unnecessary expenditure.

Hi Thanks all and dear SK,
I sort of got an answer and no I havent got a refund yet.
Essentially, because we are not part of the EU in the Channel Islands, we're classed in a peculiar bracket of what I can only call "rogue" states and in theory, we shouldn't have the adobe suite as they wont sell it to us! in order to get a refund you'd have to buy the software from a licensed reseller in the UK and then get the refund of the VAT from them - BUT I havent worked out in practice how that would work and as I've already set up my account for the CC suite, I'm not entirely sure if that would mean I'd have to cancel it all and re-start.
Basically, I've been very busy with work recently and haven't pursued the matter any further - but do let me know you get any further.
    Kind regards,
    Matthew

  • Skype Number for the Channel Islands

I am new to Skype and am trying to get a Skype number but am unable to get one as I live in the Channel Islands, least it looks that way, is there anyway around this? I would like to use skype to contact my mum who lives in SA via Video maybe I do not need a number, sorry if all these statements seem rather random!

Hi, telephony in the Channel Islands is complex. The Channel Islands are part of the British Isles but not part of the UK (Isle of Man is same too).
These offshore islands still use the +44 UK internatinal prefix, but when phoning from the UK by either landline or mobile the calls are classified as international and a premium is applied. This charge is particularly hefty from mobile networks and can be as much as 70p/min (T-mobile). UK telecom providers no longer include calls to offshore islands in their UK inclusive call bundles, however Channel Island providers do include calls to the UK in their inclusive bundles.
The good thing about Skype is that it doesn't differentiate between offshore islands and the UK, you get charged for the same +44 rate which currently stands at 1.7p/min to landlines and 5.8p/min mobiles on PAYG. The rates are even better in bundles.
You have several choices, you can video chat with your mother in SA for free via Skype provided she's on Skype and is able to use a PC or mobile device. You could buy a UK Skype number for people to contact you on or you could buy a SA number on Skype so friends and family in SA could keep in touch with you at local call rates.
If you buy a Skype subscription (bundle of calls) first, you then get a 50% discount on a Skype number purchase which is well worthwhile.

  • Why doesn't Sky incluse the Channel Islands in their Talk package?

I am SO frustrated that Sky have chosen to exclude the Channel Islands  as part of their talk package, even thought the Channel Islands all start with an 01 number for landlines or 07 number for mobiles and are considered part of Great Britain. They're not even included in the International package!! Absolutely crazy and so infuriating...   Does anyone know the reason behind this? Or is there anyone from Sky who is contactable to explain or (hopefully) high enough up the food chain take the decision to add the Channel Islands in??

They are included, but you're right that they're priced separately. I don't know why, but would hazard a guess that the routing takes calls to the CI out of the Sky network and therefore incur additional cost to Sky - just a guess though.
You could give Sky a call to ask for an explanation, but I doubt they'll be willing to provide one or change their policy.

  • Channel Islands VAT (Guernsey)

    Hello,
I'm having exactly the same issue as in a previous thread. Beverley's response is incorrect on that thread (I'm sorry to say it so bluntly). In the Channel Islands, you most definitely do not need a VAT ID to have the VAT removed.
Unless I get a satisfactory response from the relevant department (currently awaiting one), I'm most definitely going to take this further as Adobe (and other companies) are not allowed to charge VAT to Channel Islands customers (including Jersey, Guernsey, Alderney, Herm, and Sark). If I have to write a formal letter to Adobe, I will do so. Yes, the VAT on this is only about £2.65 for Creative Cloud. However, my contract is for a year and therefore that is about £31.80 over a whole year. It's most definitely worth having.
Unless I can get this sorted out, I will be taking this further. I had to wait around 30 minutes on live chat, and 5+ minutes per response from the advisor who clearly didn't know what I was talking about. I am now in the queue on live chat again after looking at the other thread regarding the same issue and have been waiting about 15 minutes so far.
I am using the Creative Cloud for a course I am doing, and therefore it's vital that VAT is removed.
    Kind regards,
    Dominic

    Hi Dominic
I'm sorry that my response wasn't clear.
I didn't intend to imply that customers in the Channel Islands needed to provide a VAT ID.  However, we do not have the option to make orders VAT exempt for customers in the Channel Islands and other areas which is why we are unable to sell direct - http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/policy-pricing/adobe-stores-online-order-payment-faq.ht ml
"Where can I buy Adobe products?
Customers in the following locations cannot order from the Adobe Store: Canary Islands, Channel Islands, Faroe Islands, Helgoland, Liechtenstein, Madeira, Monaco, and the French Overseas Departments."
We appreciate that this is frustrating and will look into making this clearer to customers.  If you wish to cancel your subscription and order via a reseller, please let us know.
    Kind regards

  • Phone calls to Jersey Channel Islands

Most of my family live in Jersey Channel Islands.  I have Total Broadband Option 3 plus Broadband Talk.  Jersey is not on the International List.  If I use Broadband Talk will the charges be as expensive as BTs daytime calls to landlines and cell phones in Jersey.  Currently costing me about £100 a month and need to reduce cost.

  • ITunes Available in Channel Islands?

    Hi everyone,
I have recently bought my first iPod and use iTunes all of the time. It's great.
I've been telling a friend all about it and he wants to use iTunes and buy an iPod.
Here is my question. He lives in Channel Islands (Jersey), just off the French coast. It's not technically part of Great Britain or the UK, so will iTunes Store work and will he be able to purchase music the way I can in UK?
    Thanks very much.
    Carol

    Hi, Carol.
Back in September there was a question relating to the iTunes status of the self-governing Bailiwicks that comprise the Channel Islands.
You might want to have a look at it: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=5417672&#5417672

  • I tunes store will not recognise my channel islands (jersey) post-code

I cannot download anything now because itunes will not accept my Jersey post-code. There must be others in the channel islands who have had this problem. Apple say it's because itunes "isn't available in this country". It has worked in the past but not now.
    Any ideas? Thanks

The iTunes Store has never officially been available to the Channel Islands, since the content owners do not consider the Channel Islands to be part of the UK for the purposes of copyrights, royalty payments, etc. If it worked before it was by error. If it's not working now, Apple's apparently fixed the problem that allowed you entry previously, and there's nothing anyone here can do or suggest.
    Regards.

  • Does the channel used by Airport Supreme cause problems?

I have problems with my wireless system using the Airport Supreme on my Mac Pro.  Streaming movies and internet use on my iPad cut off and often I find that my internet service is down.  I need to contact the cable company which resets the modem. The Tech at the cable company tells me the problem is that my Airport Supreme is on a channel where there is interference and the channel needs to be changed.  Does this make sense.  If so, how does one change the channel, and how do you know what different channel to use?

I answered on your main thread.. where I already answered.
Changing channels is not relevant.. as soon as you reboot the main router or the AE it will auto select channels that are not going to interfere.. you are being kept in the dark and fed bulldust.. (this is called the mushroom syndrome)  but please answer the questions in the thread.
    Does this make sense.
    No
If so, how does one change the channel
Just so you know.. go to wireless options.. and change the channel from auto.. to a number.
how do you know what different channel to use?
    Trial and error.. test 2.4ghz on 11, 9, 6, 1
The reason even a wireless survey is useless is because every time a router tests wireless it can change channels.. every time it restarts it picks the channel least used. There is no such thing as a best channel.. for all time.. because all the routers in your area are playing musical channels. Everytime you check it can be different.

  • Interleaved data saving and the TDMS Viewer VI.

    Hello,
    I'm using LabVIEW 2009 Service Pack 1 ( ver 9.0.1 32-bit ).
I was trying to take a piece of data and save it in interleaved mode.
The save operation seems to be completed correctly, but when the TDMS Viewer VI is launched it crashes, and I'm unable to browse the data.
I'm attaching the example I used.
What I want to know is:
    1) am I using the write properly? What I'm trying to acomplish is to push down an array if I16 to a TDMS write block, recieve 30 channels of data this way.
    2) I managed to use this VI and it crashes, on two PC's, one is a win7 32bit, the second one was an XP. But let me know if this runs properly for you.

    InterleavedDataErr.zip ‏16 KB

I have a buffer that can accumulate up to 65536 I16 values.
In that buffer I get for example 6x 10000 values.
Every "chunk" of the 10000 values is my interleaved data. One point is one channel.
My data is shaped like in the opening post:
    http://forums.ni.com/t5/LabVIEW/TDMS-Streaming-in-interleaved-mode/m-p/1189201#M513943
Since I'm running a windows machine, sometimes I'll get 5x 10000 values, sometimes it will be 3x , sometimes 6x during one buffer swipe.
The data rate and the channel length is variable.
But let's talk about one case:
10k channels and 10 kHz rate of I16 vals.
That gives me roughly 200 MB/s of data that I need to get out of the buffer.
What I want to do on my PC is take that data, and save it interleaved to a TDMS file, while being able to safely stay above the 200 MB/s.
I would be intersted in aiming for 300 MB/s so that if we push our card further down the line, I'm not stuck with the streaming bandwitch.
I have noticed that unfortunately if you use an ammount of channles that is 10000 the writing performance drops dramatically.
What I figured out is that I'm not conducting 1 write on 10000 channels on a small ammount of data. But rather than that a large accumulated amount of data (like 8000 x 10000 of I16)
And I split the save of 10000 channels into 10x 1000 channels save.
First channs from 0-999 , than 1000-1999 etc.
All is done in interleaved mode.
This is Very Very fast indeed. I got rates of 360 MB/s. That's smoking fast!
Now the trick is... to handle the appropriate data shaping in the RAM, from my buffer, to the large shaped RAM chunk, that will be cut in to pieces for Streaming. LV is designed for data flow and copies data a lot, hence I get easlity in the out of memory problem, I'm going to have to use some ticks like storing the data structure via a VI Server call, or perhaps queues don't know yet. But I'm going to do some reading on that and it seems that this should be achieavable.
Thank you both for your input,
I will post if I get stuck.

  • I buy the apple ipod from Channel Island Jersey UK and is dont find in the list of country to register for apple store. What i can do?

i buy the apple ipod from Channel Island Jersey UK and is dont find in the list of country to register for apple store and i chose UK but my address biling for bank is in Jersey Uk. What i can do? wen i put the post code from jersey is tell that" Your post code does not mactch the country you selected for the Itunes store"

I also just bought macbook pro completely legally and officialy.
You can't officially buy an Apple product as far as Apple is concerned, in the Ukraine if Apple says that there are no Apple Authorized venders in the Ukraine.
Here (in Ukraine) are official Apple's service centers, as like as in Belarus and Russia.
According to Apple there are no Apple Authorized Serve Providers in the Ukraine.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1434
And why should I care about those kinda "support lists"?
Because those lists are the official Apple statement of the state of affairs in your country. If you country is not on the list then Apple has no legal or official obligation to you or any products that you have managed to buy in the Ukraine.
this is, for example, official distributor of Apple products in Ukraine.
Not as far as Apple's statement on the issue is concerned.
I bought legal macbook and have right for legal support, and that's all.
Yes, if you get the product to a country with officially and legally Apple Authorized Service providers. There are none in the Ukraine.

  • Can't receive text messages from Jersey in the U.K. Channel Islands

I switched from AT&T to Verizon earlier this year, and although the call quality and online service is better, I have noticed some deficiencies in the service that I would not have expected from the number 1 carrier.
In particular, I do a lot of business with Jersey, in the British Channel Islands.  This is not to be confused with the state of New Jersey.  Jersey is the largest offshore banking and fund administration center in the world, and is only less known than places like the Caymans because it runs a very clean and transparent operation.  After switching to Verizon I discovered that I could send text messages to my client's in Jersey but they could not send text messages back.  After numerous support calls I was eventually told that the problem with the Isle of Man was resolved. Duh!  The Isle of Man is another U.K. offshore island but its not Jersey.  On further discussion with the support group apparently the problem is a lack of partnership arrangement with Jersey Telecom (JT), the principal mobile supplier in Jersey.  Verizon has arrangements with Cable and Wireless, and Airtel Vodafone in Jersey, but not JT.  I don't know anybody in Jersey that uses C & W or Airtel, and I expect these services are not popular with the business community.  I did speak to JT who confirmed the lack of an agreement and mentioned that they had agreements with AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile.
Frankly I'm surprised that Verizon, does not have an arrangement with JT, and yet a minor player like T-Mobile does.  The support people didn't even seen to be bothered by this.  It was a "we don't have a sharing contract with them, and you can check on our web site to confirm this".  I would expect "I'm sorry for such an omission, we will be right on fixing it."
It has made me question whether Verizon is a serious business service or more of a consumer orientated service.
I surely can't be the only Verizon client that needs to receive texts from Jersey!
Please don't make me switch back to AT&T.

No I understood your problem, it is just that the only time I would text with partners it generally is when I actually there, everything while absent from the area I generally use Voice and E-mail for a bit more harder record keeping.
For VZW the best option for negotiating a contract that I would definitely back and support would be a JT client side pro rata surcharge if it would be necessary. The direct cost to VZW is not what I am concern with, but the cost JT might want to throw onto VZW for a contract.
Now to the more fun question at hand... I love teaching economics and I have mulled over those numbers dealing with the banking and trust industries in the recent past, and you are absolutely correct Hong Kong could never count. Hong Kong facilitates oversight of a great deal of activities, but no one [with any sense] would ever open shop there to actually do this work. I do think however with CIMA's reforms with the 2Gen Basel regs. Cayman Islands have most definitely cleaned a great deal of their dirty work up & their antics [not to say it does not exist everywhere including Jersey, but...] and they stand to be the largest in terms of pure monetary figures. However, that cannot be said without acknowledging that some of the backing servs. comes from the 'traditional' offshore islands. [and I would have not clue exactly what the size of the place is vs. others]

  • Unable to connect my I-phone 4S via wifi from the Air-port express even though the signal is good and all my other devices (macBook air and speakers) are working properly? Already tried to change the channels on the Airport but still nothing.

The sound wifi system works perfectly but reggarding the wifi on my 4S I've tried changing through different chanels on the Airport (I saw people were having the same problem and aparently by changing the channels on the Airport the internet on the phone worked properly, but I'm still stuck with a brand new I-phone unable to opem my pages) I've also tried changing the Radio modes and still nothing.

  • I don't have an aerial and got the channels throug...

So when I signed up for BT, I asked the sales person whether I would get TV channels without the aerial. They explained that we wouldn't get the majority of freeview channels but we would get the extra channels BT give you (Comedy Central, Discovery, MTV etc) and the 2 channels I was was particularly bothered about BT Sport 1 & BT Sport 2. Perfect! I wasn't bothered about the other freview channels and I was getting fast boradband too at a much lower cost that Virgin Media who I moved from.
So a few weeks in, having had no problems from when it was set up, BT sport stopped working. When flicking through the channels I realised that all the channels were suddenly down too. I tried unplugging the hub and youview box, plugging them in again. This was unsuccesful so I started following all the troubleshooting guides on the BT site... Still nothing.
Next I called BT. I spoke to a seemingly very pleasent BT representitive who, over the phone, took me through numerous steps to try and fix the problem. After not getting anywhere, he asked if I had an aerial. I explained we hadn't and then he told me this was the problem. I explained that we had been watching TV channels without an aerial for weeks without any problem but he continued to tell me it would only work with an aerial. I hate liars and I'm now particularly annoyed at BT. How could he offer me that explanation when it had been working all that time beforehand. I'm not bothered about the other channels we couldn't recieve and I don't want to get an aerial for them. If the salesperson advised me that my TV service would be shut off unless I get an aerial, I wouldn't have gone with BT and I would have either stuck with Virgin Media or possibly chosen Sky.
I don't really know what to do now. Has anybody else had this problem? Has anyone manage to get it working again?

I've been battling the same problem for a while, I've no terrestrial aerial only Freesat and BT iInfinity. I only got the BT Youview box to allow me to get BT Sport in HD (OK I did let the grandchildren talk me in to having BT Kids as well) but as I already had a Freesat box I'd no interest in getting a new terrestrial aerial installed.
Initially it all worked OK but then I started loosing access to BY Sport found that if I turned it off for an hour or so there was a good chance of getting it back but that wasn't always guaranteed and as time went by the solution became less and less successful.
At the time there was a statement on a BT web page that CLEARLY stated something to the effect that a terrestrial aerial was not a necessity if you were happy to forgo the usual channels. So I chased BT, the usual round of chats via there "Overseas" support got me nowhere but I was amazed to receive a call from a BT Engineer from the North East a few days later.
To cut to the chase the reasoning to why it stops working is Network Time Synchronisation (NTS). Apparently the first time you plug the Youview box in, it obtains the time over the broadband connection. However it does occasionally recheck and for some daft reason switches to the Freeview signal to get it. No Signal - No NTS - So No BT Sport, simple as that.
Sound plausible I tried an internal aerial but with no success so am about to cancel what I can but will probably end up paying for the box for the full year, what can only be regarded as a total con.
Will switch providers when my next renewal comes up.
Sorry for the bad news but hope that helps
