VBoxSVC eating my CPU

Today I tried to do some work on my VMs, but after loading drivers:
sudo modprobe vboxdrv
sudo modprobe vboxnetflt
sudo modprobe vboxnetadp
sudo modprobe vboxpci
and starting VirtualBox then VBoxSVC starts eating my CPU. So I can't do my work.
Has any one fix for this? I saw the more users have faced this problem but without any solution...

this has got ridiculous now i cant access itunes tore,my ipod says there is no music on it even though i watched it sync nearly 5000 tunes and the program apple mobile device exe eats my cpu at 97% it slows my computer to a crawl should have had the courage of my convictions and stuck to itunes version9 at least that worked.tried resetting netsh winsock, flushing my dns all not worked.this has to be sorted out...and quick

Hi,
I have tried and confimed that you can download the previous version from some web-site about the version 10.5.1.42.
Remove/un-install 10.5.2.11 and restart your computer.
Install the old version 10.5.1.42
and then you can find the "Devices" on the left column and showing synchronizing when you connect the cable.
Good luck

• ITunes eats up CPU

My iTunes eats up CPU (95%-142%) while converting from MP3 to AAC!?
18 tracks (134 MB) is not to much I assume!
Fans on my MacBook Pro 17" are working non-stop (at 5800-6000 min.Speed) during this "operation"!
Is there a particular reason or there is something wrong with my laptop?

Yeah same problem here. The only thing I've been able to do to deal with the problem is to close out of mozilla firefox (or any other larger program), and it usually improves... kind of a pain.

• MassStorage process eats my cpu

Hi,
since i installed 10.4.8, my system has been behaving in a strange way. Iphoto now recognizes my firewire mass storage (160 gb hard disk on an enclosure) unit as a camera... and i notice that the MassStorage process (as i see it in activity monitor) get to use 30% or 50% of Cpu (intel imac 17 inch), until it gets stuck "not responding" and it goes up to 80%. After i kill the process, everything goes back to normal. The thing is, i use the storage devide very much, and even when the system starts i see it eating my cpu.
how can i resolve this? is there any known workaround? i dont think it is a normal behaviour, its been happening since yesterday.
Thanks in advance.
Alberto Rojas

Ok, so spotlight indexed my hard drive again, and i let massstorage to finish its work. I know the process is directly related to the indexing process, but i cant make it stop. The indexing setting is set to off (through terminal) but it keeps working everytime i restart, even in the admin account in my mac, and even after the process is finished. There has to be a workaround, im still looking around for answers.
thank you very much for your help.
Alberto.

• Disconnected users eating 25% CPU time

Hi,
Some times my wife stay logged in on our common computer (she wants keep open her files). When I log in her account is disconnected. If I do not so any think on the computer the CPU load is about 25%. I checked the task manager, my wife's disconnected account
eating this CPU time. I checked the process, it is "Windows Logon User Interface Host".
I have 4 core CPU. It seems there is thread in the "Windows Logon User Interface Host" which is in an infinite loop. I am using Windows 8.1 with the latest updates.
It would be nice, if a Windows service does not eat CPU time just for nothing.
Best Regards.

Hi,
Do you use remote desktop connection? sometime, a incompatible 3 party remote desktop application can cause a high logonui.exe cpu usage.
And software like A-Tuning can also cause this issue, if you have this softwware installed, I suggest you uninstall them, then test again.

• LibreOffice: oosplash.bin eating 100% CPU

Is anyone having this problem? I open some file in LibreOffice and after some minutes oosplash.bin begin eating 100% CPU. Killing the process solve the issue.

mcrae wrote:I just noticed this problem - quick search and here is the answer - It's why I always end up back with Arch
Not to get too OT, but I was just thinking the same thing. I recently started having this problem and decided to search around for solutions. It is causing my little netbook some serious trouble, and, since I bought the netbook for schoolwork, I can't just quit using LibreOffice on it.
It is always nice seeing other users with the same problems posting solutions. I love the Arch community just as much as I love Arch Linux, itself.
Back OT: the one in /usr was already set to 0, for me as well. Changing the one in /etc doesn't seem to change anything, though.
I tried running
lowriter --nologo
and I get two processes: 'oosplash.bin --writer --nologo' and 'soffice.bin --writer --nologo'. Sending SIGTERM to oosplash.bin doesn't close Writer. Not sure what the point of '--nologo' really was. Not sure if I still get the same 100% CPU usage, though.

• CoreCenter eating 99%CPU

Hi,
I have an MSI K8T Neo2 FIR motherboard. It was recently replaced by a new one because the old one had a problem that the CoreCenter application was eating 99% CPU when started and would not display its GUI. Originally I used the old board with a relatively weak PSU, and then it sometimes rebooted, but after replacing the PSU with a stronger one, it became perfectly stable and has been so for 6 months. The fault causing 99% CPU usage with CoreCenter occured with the weaker PSU after booting it 2-3 times, so I suspected that the fault was due to the weak PSU.
I got the motherboard replaced recently. CoreCenter worked well for a while (a few hours), but then, after a reboot, the old symptoms appeared again. I don't think the PSU is the problem this time, so I started some investigation with SoftICE to see where it runs when it is using all CPU time. It turned out that it repeatedly calls the HalGetBusData system call querying the PCI configuration space. The PCI bus number is always incremented between the calls. So it looks as if the program is looking for some device, but doesn't find it.
What could be the problem? Could it really be that some device (e.g. the CoreCell chip) got faulty and no longer shows up on the PCI bus (though AFAIK the CoreCell chip is not on the PCI bus)? How can I further check what the problem and most importantly its root cause might be?
Thanks,
István

I tried both the one that came with my motherboard (something like 1.7) and the latest one. However, I doubt it has to do with the version, since it worked for a while. And then something happened and it ceased to work. I suspect that something happened to my motherboard, since I had the older one with the same problem, and after replacing the motherboard (and only the motherboard), the program worked for a while and then stopped working.
I would like to figure out what could have caused the problem.

• DirectoryService still eats 190% CPU, HELP!

Hi all
A few months ago many users reported problems with directoryservice eating 190% CPU and for most upgrading to 10.5.2 seems to have done the trick: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1211429
But not for me, I have tried everything I can think of. This tip didnt work:
http://julianschrader.de/20071224-recover-from-directory-service-database-index- corruption/
And neither did copying the program file /sbin/DirectoryService from a friends computer nor running all maintanence tasts in Onyx.
If I start in "safe boot" mode, everything works fine.
The link below shows an Instrument snapshot of DirectoryService in action.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks for your replay and it is also good to learn I'm not alone.
I have menumeters installed so I continously monitor the CPU load. The DirectoryService bug is always present with increased CPU load every 10 seconds however only some of the time it reaches very high CPU load. ATM the peakes at about 20% for less than a second but it can consume almost all CPU power for 8-9 seconds every 10 seconds when it is really bad.
Rebooting does not help though, booting in "safe" mode does.

• Use  LogRotationType="date" for WebServer in config.xml eats 99% CPU

FYI. By accident I found out to set LogRotationType="date" for WebServer in config.xml eats 99%

• Firefox/plug-in container eats all cpu and ram only flash plug-in installed no theme new profile new windows install still can't fix

I've been through hundreds of posts in the last year. back then all of a bloody sudden firefox starts eating my computer. 500+mb of use ram during normal browsing.
Decent cpu use at around 25% but if i turn on youtube it hits 80% for about 6 mins then it's 97% to 100% and it's always in constant motion between those 4 values.
playing any game which uses flash or java quickly become unplayable and I've seen it hit 1gb+ ram use.
turning off flash protected fixed youtube but it's unsafe so need a different fix. and I'm out of ideas for everything else. I.E same problem, chrome is even worse than FF, and opera won't even run. so what do i do now

1. it's wrong I have the current version 12. something.
2. just firefox not even counting the plug-in container.
3. the laptop is old almost 4 years, 1.93 GB of ram, only antivirus begins at start up, linux is something I'd rather not mess with a couple stupid people use my computer, and i have an intel celeron 900 2.20 GHz single core.
you sounded condescending careful it's far more telling than you realize.

• WindowServer eating up CPU; kernel_task eating RAM

Ok well I got two problems firstly one more annoying poblem is that my WindowServer tas is totally eating my processor eventho I just restarted my computer is will quickly start driving the CPU to aorund 60% pretty penently. If I am just trying to trype a message for example on a website with flash it takesthe text ages to appear lag behawfully and even in this forum the text is lagging behind slightly while typing this message. Sometimes it is normal usually when I just restarted but in the case right now not even that seems to have helped.
Then the other problem is that kernel_task seems to be sing a lot of RAM after restart it was str8 on 160MB and then after started firefox and running for about 5 mins it is already using up 323 before I restarted it was using around 600MB is this normal? seems a little much especially when I heard it was only using aroudn 60MB for other people
Hope you guys have some tips for me!
MacBook Pro 15" 2010, Mac OS X (10.6.7), i7 2.66MHz

thanks that may well have been the problem, but after defragmenting (iDefrag) this weekend, the problem seems to have gone, i think.
The problem started after clearing all the caches including system caches and i wonder if it was just trying to rebuild some, but the constant "clicking/whirring" sound has stopped and I am abled to run smoothly with several apps/intensive apps going without lag and beachball.
I am not totally sure if the problem has gone so may reset SMC next weekend anyway. It may have also had something to do with Safari but again I'm of course not sure as I am no Apple technician. I thought I would write as much as I could as this is probably a problem that will come up with other users and I could not find much on it.

• Large Crystal Reports eating up CPU on server

We have a server with several sql server databases. Clients log into the software on the server connecting to their own databases. Each database contains that company's Crystal Reports so that they can report on their own data in the database.
Unfortunately, some of the databases have a lot of information in them and when these companies run the report(s), it eats up the CPU of the server pretty much acting as a DoS for other users on the server.
Is it possible to somehow load in a report from a stream of data without needing to save the file to the hard-drive first?
Does the file on the hard-drive serve as a temporary storage location for the data being retrieved or is that held in memory until the ExportToStream method is called? If yes, that would explain why there is no Load method, that I can see, that allows a stream.
Is there a way to detect how big a report is getting as it's being built (a callback method or setting a property) and, if it exceeds a certain limit, to cancel the report?

There is a lot of info missing here, but I'll get to that later.
While your questions are very good, the short of it is; no. Essentially you are running into the OS limit rather than anything to do with Crystal Reports. Large reports may need that memory and a 32 bit OS will let us use up to 2 GIGs (a bit less actually, but close enough). If another report is needed that requires memory, you will run into issues such as crashes, out of memory exceptions, etc., etc. So, you have four options;
1) Limit the amount of data
2) Use 64 bit version of CR (more below)
3) Use one of the Enterprise products and schedule the reports for later viewing
4) Web farms, using sticky sessions
The only versions of CR that are 64 bit are 10.2 and 10.5 which bundle with .NET 2005 and .NET 2008 respectively. 64 bit app on 64 bit OS essentially does not have memory limitations.
Now, my questions;
1) What version of CR are you using?
2) How large is the data that is being processed?
3) How big is the report (pages, size) once it is done?
4) Are you using he latest runtime available for your version of CR?
5) Is your version of CR using the latest Service pack?
6) Is this a web or a windows app?
7) What typically is the OS?
8) What type of database connection are you using?

• Finder eating 50%+ CPU on Quad-Core MacBook Pro?!

Ever since I installed Lion on my new MacBook Pro, I've occasionally found Finder eating 50% or more of my CPU time in Activity Monitor,
When this happens Finder is usually in thumbnail view arranged by date modified or created.
Anyone know a fix for this?

I had it too, that AppleFileServer Process killed ths server with high CPU load!!
in my case was the problem in the SCSI chain ore the combination of ATTO UL5D PCIe SCSI + MacPro +RAID
the hardware it was involved:
MacPro 2 x 2.8GHz Quad-core Intel Xeon with 8GB RAM installed. all the Share are stored on a RAID Level 6 connected over an ATTO UL5D PCIe SCSI card.
since I'm build the shares on a internal 3TB striped volume, I haven't any crashes

• I have been having issues with Firefox lately. A thread is in wait state for minutes eating up CPU. More info available.

When Firefox seems to hang, I usually cannot do anything else but wait until the process has completed whatever it is doing. I am reasonably sure it is a firefox process as it is reported by the wait state analysis.

It would help to know more about your iMac.
What year, screen size, CPU speed and amount of RAM installed?
How full is your Mac's hard drive?
How many applications do you run simultaneously in the background while working in another application?
Do you run any antivirus software on your Mac? Antivirus software can slow down the normal operation of OS X.
Do you run any "crapware" like Mackeeper or any other type of so called hard drive "cleaning" apps?
Have you downloaded and installed anything recently that might have caused the erratic behaviour of your iMac?

Ever since I updated to the 3.2.0-2 gnome-shell, my cpu sits at around 60% idle.  This slows down a lot of things including overlay mode.  Is anyone else experiencing this?
