VBScript error number conversion?

Hi,
I have a script returning an error as a large negative number and need to know how to convert it down to the nice small positive number that MSDN shows as the return values.
Thanks!

**Decoding Errors**
-2147220978 style numbers are 32 bit signed integers, convert to hex with calculator.
Windows errors (smallish numbers) and  COM HResults (typically, but with exceptions, start with an 8 as in 0x80040154) are defined in WinError.h, except 8007nnnn where you look up the Window error number that it contains.
As a general rule Windows errors are less than 65,535 (0xFFFF). Errors starting 0x80000001 are Component Object Model (COM) HResults. Errors starting 0xC0000001 are NTStatus results. Errors starting 0xD0000001 are also NTStatus
values returned in a HResult.
 - **WinError** - Returned from Windows API Calls
 - **HResult** - Returned from COM calls
 - **NTStatus** - Returned from kernel and some API calls also return when
   encountering a kernel error.
NTStatus errors (typically but not always start with an C as in 0xC0000022) are defined in NTStatus.h.
.h files are the best source because it includes the symbolic name of the error which can give clues such as the source of the error. FormatMessage doesn't give the symbolic name only the description.
You get these files by downloading the Platform SDK (it's gigabytes)
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx%3Fid%3D8279&sa=U&ei=w2IrULDDLsHFmAWbmIHoBg&ved=0CBwQFjAA&usg=AFQjCNHZn9-4f2NnuN9o3UWUsOF3wL7HBQ
If you just want the two files I have them on my skydrive so I can reference them anywhere I go.
https://skydrive.live.com/redir?resid=E2F0CE17A268A4FA!121
Note internet errors (12,000 - 12,999) are windows errors but are specified in wininet.h also available above.
There are errors defined in other .h files. But 99% are in the three above.
**Structure of HResults and NTStatus Codes**
The most significant bit in HResults, and the two most significant bits in NTStatus are set on error. Hence Hresults start 8 on error and NTStatus starts C on Error. The next 14 or 15 bits are reserved and some specify the
facility - what area the error is in. This is the third and fourth number when reading hex. EG 0xnn07nnnn - An HResult facility code 7 is a normal Windows' error (returned from a COM program - hence it's returned as a HResult). Facility codes are defined in
Winerror.h for HResults and NTStatus.h for NTStatus codes. They are different.
**To Decode 0x8003nnnn Errors**
HResults with facility code 3 means the HResult contains OLE Structured Storage errors (0x0 to 0xff). These are the same as Dos error codes. These don't seem to be in Windows' header files and the list of codes is at the end of this post.
**To Decode 0x8004nnnn Errors**
HResults with facility code 4 means the HResult contains OLE errors (0x0 to 0x1ff) while the rest of the range (0x200 onwards) is component specific errors so 20e from one component will have a different meaning to 20e from another component.
This is why the source of the error is extra important for errors above 0x80040200.
**To Decode 0x8007nnnn Errors**
HResults with facility code 7 means the HResult contains a Windows' error code. You have to look up the Windows' error code not the HResult.
To decode 0x80070002. The 0x means it's a hexadecimal number, the 8 means error, the first 7 means it a windows error, and the rest of the number, 2, is the actual Windows error.
To look up the error we need it in decimal format. Start Calculator (Start - All Programs - Accessories - Calculator) and choose View menu - Scientific, then View menu - Hex. Enter 2. Then View menu -  Decimal. It will say 2.
Start a Command Prompt (Start - All Programs - Accessories - Command Prompt) and type
    net helpmsg 2
and it will say
    The system cannot find the file specified.
or look it up in winerror.h
    // MessageId: ERROR_FILE_NOT_FOUND
    // MessageText:
    // The system cannot find the file specified.
    #define ERROR_FILE_NOT_FOUND             2L
**To Decode 0x8019nnnn Errors**
HResults with facility 0x19 are HTTP errors. Codes under 16,384 (0x4000) are the same as HTTP errors, eg HTTP status 404: The requested URL does not exist on the server is 0x80190194 (0x194 = 404). Codes 16,384 and higher are BITS specific.
**To Decode 0xDnnnnnnn Errors**
HResults starting 0xD are an HResult with a NTStatus value in it. Just cange the lead D to a C and treat as an NTStatus (Hresult = NTStatus OR 10000000).
**Dos Error Codes (for 0x8003nnnn errors)**

  • Error ORA-06502, numeric or value error character to number conversion

    I have been trying to create an email including data from a table as part of the body. Whenever I try to send it, I get an error ORA-06502, numeric or value error, character to number conversion. If I take out the part referencing the table, the email will go without error, but if I put it back in I get the error.

    This is important to my company to be able to put this data into an email. If anyone can help me, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you in advance.

    Lets isolate the erroring line by running the code in debug mode and adding some debug lines at various stages in the code
    Apex has a builtin function named wwv_flow.debug which can print messages to the debug stack and would be visible when the page is run in debug mode.

  • Numeric or value error: character to number conversion error

    I'm having problems inserting a value from a date picker field (DD-MON-YYYY HH MI )
    i'm submitting this value to a packaged procedure that accepts this field as VARCHAR2 .
    on the insert, i do a to_date( P_DATE, 'DD-MON-YYYY HH:MI PM' )
    and i get the numeric conversion error.
    If I change the to_date on the procedure side, I get the :could not read the end of the format mask - which I've found threads about on this site.
    I've tried using HH24 and different formats, but I get one of the two above errors on the insert.
    If I don't fill in the datepicker field at all, it works fine.
    help is appreciated !
    Bill

    Can someone please please tell me why I'm getting this error and what I'm doing wrong? It looks like a simple error, "numeric or value error: character to number conversion error".

    Are the parameters in your procedure in the same order as they are created in this code? Oracle command works by position unless you change it to be BindByName.
    Failing that you seem to have defined a parameter (P_NAME) to have a length of 6, and are then setting it's value to a string with a length of 9.
    Also the in/output parameter is defined as type decimal. Is this correct? It is defined as InputOutput but you don't assign it any value.
    If these suggestions don't help then perhaps if you post the stored procedure you might get some more ideas.

    ORA-06512: at "UDR_LOG", line 345
    ORA-04088: error during execution of trigger 'UDR_LOG'but line 345 is:
    END IF;
    so its kind of strange
    the code looks like
    343 IF nvl(to_char(:old.PKD_ID),'''') <> nvl(to_char(:new.PKD_ID),'''') THEN
    344     v_zmn := v_zmn || 'PKD_ID''' || to_char(:old.PKD_ID) || '''' || to_char(:new.PKD_ID) || '''';
    345    END IF;
    so its concatenation not to_number usage .error is triggered by update statement on any column .
    I'm sorry I cant provide You with whole trigger code .
    So if You could only recommend any investigation method that would be great .
    Regards
    Greg

    Hi, Greg,
    When there's an error in a trigger, the line numbers in the error messages are relative to the first DECLARE or BEGIN statement; often, that's a few lines after CREATE OR REPLACE TRIGGER. Post a few lines after what you already posted.
    If you can't find the error, then create another table for testing this, and create a smaller trigger on that table, which does only enough to cause the error. Then you'll be able to post the complete trigger, and the code needed to re-create the problem.

  • Error Number 13 Type Mismatch VBScript runtime error

    I am getting the following error when administering web forms in HFM v 11.1.2.1.600.07
    Error Number:13
    Error Description:Type mismatch
    Error Source:Microsoft VBScript runtime error
    Page On which Error Occurred:/hfm/data/WebFormBuilder.asp
    Google searches led me to suggestions that this might be a problem with errors in my Member Lists, but I have checked and re-checked this.  The Member list loads without errors and does not resolve the issue.
    Fortunately the problem is only present in my DEV environment.  The error specifically occurs when you click the Rows or Columns tab in the web form editor.  All other tabs work fine.
    At the same time all web forms are also returning the following error on submit:
    An unknown error has occurred in the HsvWebFormGeneratorACM object.
    Error Reference Number: {FE2DBEB4-89E2-4177-A585-474BDAF18CB7};User Name: vincent@Native Directory

    My normal support options have been voided because I recently installed Microsoft Web Platform 5.0 on the server not knowing it might affect HFM and I am unable to verify whether this issue arose before or after this installation as I hadn't used the DEV environment in a while.
    Uninstalling MS Web Platform and rolling back the IIS settings has failed to resolve the  problem.
    I have the option to restore the environment, but the SQL box hosts 2 DBs used in our PROD environment so I am trying to avoid this.
    Can anyone suggest anything, be it an HFM-oriented or related to undoing changes caused by the installation of the Web Platform?
    Thanks!

    The root cause of the above error is a faulty Data form/Data Grid design which anyone try to run with particular POV. This issue can come up when you have row with Scalc or with NoSuppress option and you have also selected in the data form design the option to Suppress the row with Nodata/Invalid/Zero. This can be conflicting/ambiguous when user selects a POV for which the data form comes up with Nodata/Zero/Invalid rows and hence throws the above error.

  • ORA-06502: PL/SQL: numeric or value error: character to number conversion

    Hello,
    I am new to Oracle Apex so I decided to read and do the tutorials that are on the apex.oracle.com site.
    Now I am at the tutorial 6: How to Work with Check Boxes of the Advanced Tutorials.
    At a certain point you have to add a new radio button.
    At the Item Source Value you have to add SELECT 'Y' FROM DUAL WHERE :P2_LIST_PRICE*0.75=:P2_MIN_PRICE.
    But when I try to create the item, I keep getting the following error:
    ORA-06502: PL/SQL: numeric or value error: character to number conversion error
    Error creating item.
    Does anybody know what could be the problem.
    Thanks in advance.

    CREATE OR REPLACE PROCEDURE xxbb_query (

    v_deposits XXBOB_HRMS_APPRAISALS_DATA.deposits%TYPE :=0;
    v_branch_code XXBOB_HRMS_APPRAISALS_DATA.branch_code%TYPE:=0;

    FOR p_query_string USING p_branch_code,v_p_PERIOD_NAME,v_p_PERIOD_NAME,v_p_PERIOD_NAME;
    -- DBMS_OUTPUT.PUT_LINE('----- -------');
    Here I m passing a string variable to pass the select statement for the ref cursor.
    There seems some problem in the substr conversion in the statement.
    ORA-06502: PL/SQL: numeric or value error: character to number conversion error
    But when i run as a independent staement passing real values in the place of placeholders
    i get the result right.
    The *:PERIOD_NAME* format is *'Jan-2009-10'* .
    And I need to pass the *:PERIOD_NAME* to the query as *'Jan-09-10'*
    Pls suggest.

  • Importing data error: SIGNEDDATA conversion error

    The complete description is:
    The number of failing rows exceeds the maximum specified. (Microsoft Data Transformation Services (DTS) Data Pump (8004202c): TransformCopy 'DTSTransformation__13' conversion error:  General conversion failure on column pair 1 (source column 'SIGNEDDATA' (DBTYPE_STR), destination column 'SIGNEDDATA' (DBTYPE_NUMERIC)).)
    We are trying to convert a value that come with miles separators, use the character "." (point) as separator and "," (comma) as decimal separator, we use a vb function (replace) to change the points for null string, but it doesn't work.  Do you have any suggestion to solve this?
    We are using BPC 7.0 MS SP3.
    Thanks in advance,
    Mariana Rodriguez.
    Edited by: Mariana Rodriguez on Mar 23, 2011 4:15 PM

    Hi Mariana,
    I've had the same kind of problem, which gave me the
    General conversion failure on column pair 1 (source column 'SIGNEDDATA' (DBTYPE_STR), destination column 'SIGNEDDATA' (DBTYPE_NUMERIC)).)
    errror message
    My issue was resolved by changing the CREDITNEGATIVE=NO option to CREDITNEGATIVE=YES, because BPC probably converted negative values as 'string' values in stead of 'numeric' when importing SAP FI data with the minus sign '-' at the end (100-) instead of SQL signeddata (-100)
    But I have to be carefull, my Account Dimension setup is as follows:
    Balance Sheet Asset => AccType=AST
    Balance Sheet Liabilities => AccType=LEQ
    Profit and Loss Revenues => AccType =INC
    Profit and Loss Expenses => AccType=INC
    My flat file seperator is a comma (,) and decimalpoint is a point (.)
    We are using BPC 7.5 MS SP07 Patch 02 and I'm not using any VBA to convert the amount.
    Maybe it can help?

        Error in ABAP application program.
        The current ABAP program "SAPLSHL2" had to be terminated because on

        This is probably due to an error in the ABAP program.
    Error analysis
        There is probably an error in the program
        "SAPLSHL2".
        The program was probably called in a conversion exit

        Conversion exits are triggered during screen field transports or
        WRITE statements, field exits during field transports from the
        screen to the ABAP/4 program.
        In this connection, the following ABAP/4 statements are not allowed:

    Thanks
    Padmanaha

    Hi,
    Select the column in excel
    Right Click and choose format cells.
    In the pop up window, the first tab is for formatting. A list will be available, there you have to choose "Date" format.
    Within the date format, you will find number of options to set the formatting according to your specifications.
    If that does not work out, just use "Custom" format as "mmyyyy" for all the cells in that particular column.
    With Regards

  • We are getting faxes with 812 error - "Document conversion failed" in SOST

    Hi
    We are getting faxes with an 812 error - "Document conversion failed" in transaction SOST. The user is sometimes able to fax the number successfully, but other times fails - it is not consistent.
    The conversion rules seem to be set up correctly, indeed, on a resubmit this often (but not always) works, so I don't think this is down to the conversion rules.
    Is it a problem at the SAP side or the receiving system?
    We enabled a trace but on analysis the only step that appears to be different in the failing ones is:
    Status "Fehler" am Sendeauftrag gesetzt
    Which I believe roughly translates that it failed to send - but why, and where can I find more detail?
    Thanks
    Ross

    I also noticed in the trace that the faxes that work have the following lines:
    Determined device type: POST2. OTF Device Type POST2
    Format conversion from OTF to PS With Device Type POST2
    Converting OTF to PS
    Whereas the ones that have failed say:
    Determined device type: PDF1. OTF Device Type PDF1
    Format conversion from OTF to PDF
    Conversion rules for this country PL (Poland) and 'blanks' in order of prioroty are:
    PDF                   S  POST2
    PDF  PL  Polish  S  ID2PDF
    PS                          POST2
    PS  PL  Polish   S  I2SPOST
    Is that correct?
