VBScript to turn off Backup schedule

We have a third party application that backs up our user data, but the last guy who created our images forgot to turn off the scheduled backup. We have hundreds of machines that need to have the "turn off schedule" selected. I can't find a vbscript
that will do that. I need to be able to run the script via psexec on all of the machines. I need some help on where the "turn off schedule" writes to the registry. Anyone know?
Thanks

Hi,
I'm not very clear on exactly what you're asking, but you can use this tool if you're trying to figure out what registry changes you need to make:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/regshot/
Group Policy can then be used to enforce registry changes on the clients.

  • Turn off backups while restoring!

I had a 500 GB disk that just went bad, but since all the data was backed up on another drive by Time Machine, I decided to restore to a new drive. This probably would have worked just fine, but I neglected to turn off backups, and this created a problem.
I was restoring about 335 GB of data onto the new drive (which I had given the same name as the old drive) and Time Machine seemed to be working just fine, giving an estimate of about 5 hours for the copy to complete.
However, when I checked the system this morning, the copy had aborted, with the reason being that the files no longer existed on the TM drive.
What I think happened was this. TM kept on backing up files from the new drive, which resulted in its running out of space on the TM drive. So it automatically deleted old backups, including the one that I was restoring from.
I wish that TM had been smart enough to avoid this problem, although I can see how I could have avoided it myself by turning off the backup function while doing the restore, or by having it warn me before deleting backups. Lesson learned.
Happily, the files all seem to be intact and I'm restoring them now from the only backup that still exists, the one that TM made yesterday!

Sorry, not realy that familiar with Windows :-(
I am starting to get a bit confused myself.
Could you be a bit more specific, what option you choose "Automatic Backup" during installation. What backup are you refering to?
Did you make a screenshot of the installation proces, so that you can include this?

    Hey ktillis88,
Thanks for the question. Based on the information you have provided, the following resource may be helpful:
    iCloud: Understanding Backup alert messages
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4576
"Backups for appname cannot be turned off at this time."
This message occurs if disabling Backup for an app on your iOS device does not complete successfully. Wait a few minutes and then attempt to disable Backup for the app again. If you continue to receive this alert, contact iCloud Support for assistance.

  • Can't turn off Backup on Palm Pre !

I really don't want this Backup function on my phone ! When I disable it, I just get a spinning circle ... that's it ... nothing is happening !
    any tips ?

    Hello and welcome to the forums;
Have you tried restarting your device after turning off backup? How about closing the Backup card and re-opening to see if it did turn off? In some lower coverage areas, the change won't reflect until after a card cycle.
Upon looking at your device information, it looks like your backup is currently disabled.
    Hope this helps,

  • Turning off Backup drive--Time Machine

What happens if i turn off my backup drive (it is a bit noisy) without touching Time Machine?  Will, eg, all new files created while it was off be added to the backup when I turn the drive back on?
    Thanks

All that will happen is you will get a dialogue box that comes up saying TM couldn't find the drive. If your EHD is noisy and that bothers you get a better drive. The ones I tend to recommend I'll list below. Once the drive is reconnected it will backup the new and/or changed files since the last backup.
    OWC Mercury Elite Pro series
    LaCie d2 Quadra series
    G-Tech G-DRIVE series
All are similar in build quality and feature sets. Personally I have 4 of the LaCie's and have been using them for 4 years, all have performed without any issues. However I'd be happy to also have the OWC or G-Tech's on my desk too.

  • Turn off backup encryption in iTunes without password???

    Hi:
Lots of posts on this, with many different answers, some contradictory, and lots of issues about weird password automatic generation.
Does anyone know with up-to-date software (iTunes 12.01.26, the last edition of Mavericks, and iOS 8.0.2) if it is possible to turn off encryption for backing up an iPhone (or iPad etc) to iTunes onto a computer if one has lost the password?
One can delete the encrypted backup, but if the encryption box in iTunes is checked it won't let one redo and start with a new unencrypted nor encrypted backup.
Is there a workaround, or has Apple not addressed this since enabling this capability would be a security problem and hence their lack of response to the zillion posts???
    Thank you!!!

I have talked to them after looking through the threads and they tried the password but it didnt work. I have read that it could have been the first password used for itunes but I tried that when I made an account for my iPad but that also didn't work. Is it the first one ever used? If so then there is basically no way I can unlock it because I used an iPod years ago (about 4-6 years)

  • Does turning off backup erase existing backups?

I was surprised to find all my iphone and ipad backups on iCloud had disappeared! It seems as if disabling (switching off) auto backups in the device settings ERASES all existing backups WITHOUT warning! Since the autoback runs whenever the device is 1) connected to power and 2) connected to WiFi, this is very disturbing. There are times when I want to recharge my batteries and connect to mail (for example), but do not want to use up WIFI bandwidth (possibly at great expense) doing a backup. Has anyone else experienced this? Is there a work around? ICloud chat help did not seem to think it was a problem, but I now have lost all my backups! What is particularly disturbing is that there was NO WARNING that this would happen.

I've not seen anything official but it is true in my limited experience that turning the iPod touch off does seem to clear that crash info. In my first two crashes I was offered to send info to Apple the iPod touch was connected to my iMac. In my latest two crahes I've turned the iPod off before connecting to iTunes and was not offered the chance to send info to Apple this time. Will continue to monitor.

I was going through my phone trying to get more storage because i only had 90 megabytes left. So i saw that i had 4.7 gigs of photos on my phone. I backed up all of my photos onto my PC, and then deleted them off of my phone. But it still said that i had 4.7 gigs of photos. So i went to icloud storage and turned photos off for it, but it still said that i was using 4.7 gigs of photos. could someone please help and tell me why this is happening and what i can do to fix this? thank you. I am using an iphone 5s with ios 8

    General File Recovery
If you stop using the drive it's possible to recover deleted files that have not been overwritten by using recovery software such as MAC Data Recovery, Data Rescue II, File Salvage or TechTool Pro.  Each of the preceding come on bootable CDs to enable usage without risk of writing more data to the hard drive.  Two free alternatives are Disk Drill and TestDisk.  Look for them and demos at MacUpdate or CNET Downloads. Recovery software usually provide trial versions that enable you to determine if the software would help before actually paying for it. Beyond this or if the drive has completely failed, then you would need to send the drive to a recovery service which is very expensive.
The longer the hard drive remains in use and data are written to it, the greater the risk your deleted files will be overwritten.
Also visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on Data Recovery.
If you have not yet Emptied the Trash:
    Recover Files in The Trash
If you simply put files in the Trash you can restore them by opening the Trash (left-click on the Trash icon) and drag the files from the Trash to your Desktop or other desired location.  OS X also provides a short-cut to undo the last item moved to the Trash -press COMMAND-Z.
If you empty the Trash the files are gone. If a program does an immediate delete rather than moving files to the Trash, then the files are gone.  Recovery is possible but you must not allow any additional writes to the hard drive - shut it down. When files are deleted only the directory entries, not the files themselves, is modified. The space occupied by the files has been returned to the system as available for storage, but the files are still on the drive. Writing to the drive will then eventually overwrite the space once occupied by the deleted files in which case the files are lost permanently. Also if you save a file over an existing file of the same name, then the old file is overwritten and cannot be recovered.

  • How to turn off backups? They're adding 5-15 minutes to each sync.

In desperation, I just restored my phone from scratch. It only has 1 ringtone (Audio: 1.4MB) and some applications (Other: 391.1 Megabytes) on it, the rest is empty (Free: 14.26 GB). Yet every sync still takes around 10 minutes. Even if I just take it out of the dock for 10 seconds and put it back in, without doing anything to the phone, it takes 10 minutes to perform the sync.
How can I turn this off???

Resolved by a second restore of the phone.

  • How to turn off backup disk temprorily

    Subject: Time Machine
I want to retrieve some sensitive material off the internet but I do not want it backed up. Do I simply open the Time Machine icon and select the on/off switch to "off"? After I retrieve the material, do I reverse the switch to "on"? Does this action alter existing or future files on the backup disk?

    That'll work fine.
You could also, when you download it, go to TM preferences>Options, and exclude it.
Just remove it right before you delete it.
    Good luck!

  • Turn off backup save iworks10

After we updated to the new iworks at work, all documents in iworks pages and numbers create tons and tons of backup files in the folder where the document is stored. It seams like it was previously possible to change this in >preferances for each program ("create back up file when saving new version") - but now there is no tab in preferances to change saving options. First we wondered if it was related to the fact that the document was originally created in the previous iworks version, but seeing that there used to be an easy way of changing this makes us think that was not the problem. Any ideas? There must be an easy fix for this one, no?

    Try this:
    Press Menu
    Select Settings
    Touch Application manager
Towards the top of the screen you will see "DOWNLOADED", scroll to the left until you get to "ALL"
Scroll through the list of apps until you get to "Backup+ Media"
Touch this and then touch "Force stop", (answer YES if you get the popup).
Then touch "Clear data",  (answer YES if you get the popup).
Get out of this and go back to Settings and located "Backup Assistant Plus" and try to uncheck all the selections
If this doesn't work you may have to do a hard reset (which will wipe all the apps that you have downloaded and personal settings, it puts the phone back into the "right out of the box condition")

  • HT5463 I have an iPhone5,iPad 3 & my daughter an iPod Touch 4th generation. We use Do Not Disturb. It turns by itself at 9:30pm & off at 7:00am. This morning, none of them turned off automatically. I manually backed them up to iTunes yesterday. Any though

I have an iPhone5, and an iPad3 and my daughter has an iPod touch 4th generation and her and I have separate accounts. I backed them up to my PC to iTunes last evening as I do every few weeks. We both use the Do Not Disturb option. Quiet hours are from 9:30pm to 7:00am. The 3 devices always turned the Do Not Disturb on and off according to the schedule on their own. As of this morning, the Do Not Disturb did not turn off on any of the devices. I sync them with iCloud either manually or when charging them. The moon icon stayed on all day today and did not follow the schedule. I had to shut it off manually on my phone. Any thoughts. My daughter initially had used her iPod Touch under an Apple account I made with my information. When I got my iPad and then iPhone5 I created a different account for her. Some items of mine went on her iPod Touch yesterday when I backed them up on iTunes on my PC. Any help is greatly appreciated! Thank you!

It seems to be a glitch or bug. Its been officially acknowledged and addressed by Apple. There is no resolution other than waiting for a few days.   The Kb article by Apple states it will fix itself on January 7.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4510
    Symptoms
After January 1st, 2013, Do Not Disturb mode stays on past its scheduled end time.
    Resolution
Do Not Disturb scheduling feature will resume normal functionality after January 7, 2013. Before this date, you should manually turn the Do Not Disturb feature on or off.
To turn off the scheduling feature, tap Settings > Notifications > Do Not Disturb and switch Scheduled to Off.

  • How do I turn off the notification in Backup Assistant Plus Media?

If you turn on "schedule backup", there is nowhere to select the time of the backup. Setting the time of "Recurring Sync" in Backup Assistant + Contacts has no affect on the time of the backup in Backup Assistant Plus Media. Invariably it runs it a 3 am and then sounds the default notification sound. I can't find any way to stop it except to set the default notification sound to "silent". There are some notifications that I want to hear, so this is not a good solution. Does anyone know how to turn off the notification sound?

        timsak,
Great question! We don't want these notfications keeping anybody up late at night and I personally know how what feels; we'll get to the bottom of it. You can access your Backup assistant plus profile on our website and ajust settings there http://vz.to/1mOFxfz and from your phone, adjust the Sound Settings and Backup Assistant Plus Settings by launching your System Settings. If problems persist, please reset the application from your phone http://vz.to/18HfhrM .
