Vcard from iBook to iMac - more

One addition to your instructions. After I used my flash drive I did need to drag and drop the Vcard file onto the iMac hard drive.
The Vcard I transfered was the ALL group. I have 14 other groups. Do I transfer each one, one at a time, or is there another way to do it? Or do I need to rebuild each of the 14 groups separately on the iMac?

I'm sorry you forgot about me, but, the best was to transfer a complete address book to my iMac is to draag and drop the Address Data backup found in UserDocuments, (Address Book - X/XX/XX) onto a flash drive and transfer it that way to the other computer

  • Transfer iPhoto, iTunes from iBook to iMac

    Hello-
Just wondering how to transfer my pictures and music from iBook to iMac?
I'm not sure if my firewire port is functioning on the iBook so that way
    may not work. Thanks

cjohnson24, Welcome to the discussion area!
The fastest way is to boot your iBook in Firewire target disk mode. The iBook will then appear as an external FireWire drive on your iMac.
FYI, from your system information you have an Intel-based iMac. This discussion area is for the older iMac G4 . You should post future questions in the Intel-based iMac discussion area.

  • HT5772 how can i delete books from ibooks on iMac

how can i delete books from ibooks on imac?

That doesn't work. It only allows you to delete your local copy but keeps the book in your library. The instructions on Apple's site are also incorrect. They suggest going to iTunes and selecting Books from the Library menu, but there is no Books option under that menu in the current version.
    Anyone at Apple listening?

  • Suggestion on transfering data from iBook to iMac the old fashioned way

I was unable to transfer files, data, apps directly from my iBook to my new iMac. I'm wondering if someone can tell me how I can do this by using an external hard drive?
For traditional files I'm OK but I'm curious about moving things like my stored Entourage mail and my iTunes song lists, purchase history, etc.
Anyone have insight on this? Thanks!

    Hi,
Thanks so much for your help. Do you mind explaining this a little more (I'm dense). To help further clarify I have the following items that I want to transfer...
    * iTunes history (purchased, playlists, etc.)
    * Safari and Explorer bookmarks
    * Entourage -- everything, stored mail, address book, calendar, etc.
I tried moving these individual files (primariy MS Office) but it wouldn't allow me to. I'm thinking one of the issues is MSFT preventing me fro transfering Office from one machine to another so I will do a separate install of that suite directly onto the iMac - however I would be very bummed if I had to loose all my history on my previous Mac since the Setup Assistant isn't working.
Appreciate your further insight on this.

  • Migration from iBook to iMac -- printer, etc.

In setting up my new iMac (17", 1GB RAM, Intel Core), I didn't initially use the Migration Assistant. I set up the accounts for me and my family, which was pretty easy, and decided to see if I could import the various other things over through the Airport Extreme connection. After a day or so and realizing that this would be a pain, I went and got a Firewire cable.
So I ran the Migration Assistant. I didn't tell it to migrate the accounts because those were already set up. I was more interested in network settings, printer, etc. So my questions are:
    1. The printer (Epson Stylus Color 740) appears in my printer list on the iMac, but when I go to print, the icon appears in the Dock, but nothing happens. I tried to delete the printer and add it again, but that still didn't work. I don't understand the things that appear in the dropdown lists on Printer Setup and which ones to pick. I see my printer in the dropdown list, but I don't think the settings I entered before that point are correct. Any suggestions?
    2. The Airport icon in the Menu bar on the iMac seems fainter than on the iBook. Does this make sense?
    3. No documents or Mail items (Inbox contents, Address Book) were migrated. I told the Migration Assistant (I think) to move folders and libraries. Did I leave something out? (Also, I had set up everyone's Mail accounts before running Migration Asst.).
    4. Can I run the Migration Assistant again, like a do-over?
    5. On the iBook, to get the Firewire sign off the screen and get that computer working again, I ended up shutting down with the power button and then powering up again. Is there a different thing to do?
Well, I hope that's not too many questions and that I'm in in the right forum. Thanks in advance for your patience and help.
iMac   Mac OS X (10.4.7)   iBook, Mac OSX (10.4)

OK, now I'm really confused. I re-ran the Migration Assistant and when it came to transferring the accounts, I was asked to change the names. Besides the choice of not transferring the account, there was a grayed-out choice the name of which escapes me now (also something with the names). Anyway, now I have multiple accounts with both the old and new names on the new iMac and the old names bring up the old Dock (smaller, fewer applications) and the things like Address Book only show up under the re-named old name account. Should I delete the accounts and start over?
Also, the printer shows up again but still doesn't print. As I said in my original message, I think I have to delete it and add it again but I don't understand the drop-down lists. They're not the same as when I had to it on the iBook once or twice.

  • Move iWeb site from iBook to iMac

I've created an iWeb site on my iBook and would like to transfer it to iWeb on my iMac...How do iDo this?

    TreySaskia,
Your site on your iBook lives in a file called 'Domain', found in your Home folder Library:
    Library/Application Support/iWeb/Domain
Duplicate this Domain file (Command+D) and transfer it to your iMac; placing it on a usb flash drive is a popular method as you can just double-click on the file after mounting the drive and iWeb, in either machine, will open it and you can access, edit, and publish changes to your site. You could use an external hard drive also. Remember to rename the file 'Domain' from 'Domain copy' after duplicating it.
    Hope this helps out.

  • Best way to transfer old files from iBook to iMac?

About two years ago, my key lime iBook died. Since it was pretty well used, I bought a G5 iMac and didn't worry much about the old laptop. I now want to get files from my iBook to my G5. I replaced the power input board and got the machine to start without incident.
I purchased a firewire to use Target Disk mode to get the files I want, but I'm having trouble making the two machines talk. The iMac can see the iBook and can tell me how much memory is left, but I can not pull up any specific files. The cursor spins and the finder is useless until I give up and disconnect the iBook.
My iBook is still using 9.0.4 while my iMac has 10.4.8. I think this gap could be the problem, but I'm not sure what to do about it.
Is there something I'm missing about TDM? Thanks for the help!

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
Your iBook does not support Target Disk Mode:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=58583
Probably you have to take apart your iBook (quite easy):
    http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/50.0.0.html
Then you can put the HD in a external enclosure and back-up your stuff.
The HD will fit in any USB or FireWire 2.5 inch IDE (or ATA) enclosure.
All this seems difficult, but it is easy!
Hopefully this is helpfull or solved your problem.

  • Using 10.4 from iBook on iMac?

I have a G4 iBook that came w/OS 10.4. The disks specifically say iBook on them. I also have a G3 iMac that came w/OS 10.3.9 and I am finding many of the things I want to do now require 10.4. Can I use the iBook disks to "upgrade" my iMac to 10.4?
    Thanks!
    Mary

Can I use the iBook disks to "upgrade" my iMac to 10.4?
No; they're only compatible with and licensed for the computer they came with. You need a retail package.

i have all the correct settings on both devices but recent PDF's do not appear on my ipad.

drag the iPhoto library from the old system to the pictures folder of the new one and launch iPhoto on the new one
By default the iPhoto library is in your pictures folder
And note that you must drag the iPhoto library -- not iPhoto

You need to get rid of MacKeeper (Zeobit).  Do not use their uninstaller, follow the instructions here ...
    http://applehelpwriter.com/2011/09/21/how-to-uninstall-mackeeper-malware/
When that is done there does not appear to be a lot wrong if you correct the red ink entries.
The 4Gb is sufficient for Yosemite though 6 or 8 Gb would be better.  You may find the download slow so be prepared.

  • VNC to iMac from iBook & windows

I'm looking to set up my iMac at my house so that I can VNC into it from my iBook while on the road, and also my windows box @ my work. I've already enabled screen sharing, remote login, and remote management on the iMac, and port forwarded 5900 on my home router to my iMacs internal IP, but still cant seem to connect.
The iMac has a staic internal IP, and I know my external IP address at home. I'm trying to use tightVNC @ work, and connect to server (apple + k) in finder and typing in: vnc://70.xxx.xxx.xxx:5900 from my iBook to initiate the screen sharing session, but neither of them work. iBook & iMac are running 10.5.8. I was wondering if there is something I should do differently.

I know that outgoing ports are not blocked as I can successfully Remote Desktop to my Windows 2008 Server I have at home from work, and our company's tech support uses nothing but TightVNC. As for the iBook to iMac VNC, i'm trying to use the Mac OS 10.5.8 built in VNC features without having to use any 3rd party software.

  • Any use for RAM pulled from stock 24" iMac?

    Greetings!
I am about to configure and order an iMac that my employer, a big university, is buying me as a workstation. They spring for a bottom-of-the-line 20" iMac. I'm going to use my own funds to upgrade to a 24" iMac. I want 4 GB of RAM in it. I can buy first-rate 3rd party RAM for about $50-60 less than Apple's upgrade cost at my university's special ordering and configuration page. This isn't a lot, and reckon using Apple's RAM might help if something goes wrong (I've heard that some problems are blamed on 3rd-party RAM). But upgrading aside from Apple might be more attractive if I could figure out anything to do with the 2x1 GB sticks I would be pulling from the machine. Can anybody suggest a likely use for them? I have a G5 DP 2GB machine from 2005, but I assume this RAM can't be added to that.
Any suggestions for how to use that RAM would be very much appreciated. I am also posting a separate question about upgrading the stock video card to the GEForce model.
    Thanks in advance!
    George Fowler

I haven't really answered my initial question: what use can I put the 800 DDR2 SDRAM pulled from the iMac to? If I can find something to do with it, then that changes the price equation further in favor of 3rd party RAM. As it is, for non-generic RAM the savings is about $50. One hears that Apple often blames technical problems on 3rd party RAM. $50 might not be worth it to run that risk. But if the 1 GB chips could go into, say, an old iBook G4 (well, I'm sure that won't work) or some other technology I have around me, then I'd have a reason to have those chips in addition to the ones running the new iMac.
You quite piquantly pointed out that they ought to have some use, but that you have experienced the same dilemma. I'm hoping somebody else might have a bright idea here.

  • I have hidden unwanted books from the purchased area of the iBooks store, but they're are still appearing on the front page of iOS as cloud downloads, is there a way to remove these from iBooks without using the hide iCloud books button?

I have hidden unwanted books from the purchased area of the iBooks store, but they're are still appearing on the front page of iOS as cloud downloads, is there a way to remove these from iBooks without using the hide iCloud books button?
Let me explain a little more. I had downloaded a lot of free books in the past as a trial when iBooks was first released and since then I have decided I no longer want them, because of this I hid them from the purchased section of the iBooks store. The 5 books left are ones I decided to keep as seen in the following picture.
This is how it appears in iBooks on my mac. There are 4 books downloaded and 1 book that I have decided not to download at this time. I would still like to keep this book available in the cloud incase I want to download it again in the future. You’ll notice that hide iCloud books is not selected, if I wanted to hide the book that I have chosen to keep in the cloud, but have not downloaded yet I could.
This is exactly how I think this feature should work. If you have hidden a book from your purchases it should not show up in the mac Ibooks app. (I am aware you can never actually delete a purchase, just hide them and that hidden purchases can be restored to your account from within the account management section of the iBooks store).
The iOS app is working differently for me. Here is a picture of the purchased tab on the iBooks store in iOS Ibooks. Again notice that pictures of Lilly is still yet to be downloaded. This is how I expected it to look.
If we visit the front page of iOS iBooks the view is very different from what I expected. Here we can see the 4 books I wanted to keep on my device and have downloaded. We can also see the 1 book I wanted to keep, but did not want to store locally on the device and left in iCloud (Pictures of Lilly). However we can also see all the books I had hidden from the purchased section of my iTunes account and which I believe should no-longer be visible, Dracula, frankenstein etc…
I am aware of the hide iCloud books button within the iOS app, but I did not need to use this to hide the books I had removed from the my purchased section of the iBooks store on the mac, why are they still appearing in iOS?
I’m still not sure if this is a software glitch or not. This article suggests to me that books can be hidden, but I had already completed these steps.
    https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201322
A browse of google also suggests people may have been able to hide past purchases from the front page of iBooks on iOS in the past.
In case there was an issue with syncing I tried logging in and out of my iTunes account via settings in iOS. Force closing the app, disabling automatic downloads and removing my device from iTunes in the cloud. Syncing with iTunes on the mac did not correct the issue either.
Interestingly I have the same issue on my iPhone 6 running iOS 8.3 as I do on my iPad mini suggesting that this might be an issue either with my account or with iOS iBooks software in general.
If there is a way to remove the already hidden iBooks in your account from the front page of iBooks on iOS without using the hide iCloud downloads button? Please help community!

My apologies for the lack of photos, here is my post again with photos.

  • Any way to move a non-DRM pdf from iBooks on iPad to Mac?

I downloaded a large number of pdfs from the web to my iPad and "saved" them in iBooks. Scare quotes fully justified. There are numerous posts describing situations in which people have lost such files, particularly when they have tried to use something seemingly safe like backing up the iPad and then using restore.
Is there anyway to backup these files:
    - Export from iBooks?
    - Backup of iPad via iTunes or iCloud?
    - Sync via iTues?
There is an option in iBooks that lets the user email a single file, but this would be extremely tedious to do for every single file.
Is anyone aware of any comparable instance in which a vendor makes it so difficult to move content out of an application, impossible to backup, and so easy to lose?

And what useful purpose does it serve to poll users for this type of information in a user to user support forum? If you want to rant or complain, your using the wrong venue. Like deggie, I have never lost anything when updating or restoring from a backup.
Try another PDF app as there are probably hundreds of them in the App Store. The Adobe Reader app that allows you to highlight, annotate, sign, read and fill out form fields, create folders, and so much more that you can do in iBooks. It works with file sharing and iTunes and it is free.
