VCR/Camcorder Viewing & Recording on Qosmio G20

Hooked up my video camcorder via S Video In. Tried reading the instructions on how to view and record from the VCR/Camcorder info. Windows Media Center is being used.
Is there some configuration I need to follow or is this not a way to do this?

Hi Greg
I have made some experience with camcorder because I have one. If you want to send movie to HDD your camcorder must be recognized like a new external device and like source for video signal. Usually for this will be used fire wire port and not S-VHS port. If you use S-VHS port external device will not be recognized and there is no way to send video signal to any software that you use for video recording.
The best way to check this is to use Windows movie maker. I use at home Pinnacle software for video recording.

OK, I normally buy Verbatim and have never had a problem. Took the chance on a cheap tub of DATASAFE 16x speed DVD-R and can only write at 1x speed. The manufacturer ID: CMC MAG. AM3.
The drive is a Mat****a DVD-RAM UJ-846S, Firmware F101 , serial number BD027ED1. The firmware date is 21-09-05 so nearly a year old. Obviously I don't expect to write at 16x speed but 8x speed would be fantastic. Hardware Qosmio G20.

Sir...,If you already know the answer, why you have sent the question to this forum?
The Mat****a UJ-846-S is not slower, but since it also writes the RAM discs,it's more critic when it has to write rubbish discs.
However, if you lose 5 minutes to read the manual, as I have already said, you will have all the information that serve you.

  • Qosmio G20 Vista drivers? Not needed to install Windows Vista

    Hello,
I am new at this forum. My name is Francisco and I live in Brazil. I own a Toshiba Qosmio g20_105 and it is running Windows Vista Ultimate EN RTM 6000 without problems.
To do this, you must perform a fresh install of Windows Vista. The drivers for network (Intel PRO100),for audio (Soundmax), for TV (Toshiba PCI Tuner), modem (toshiba modem), Alps pointing device are installed directly from microsoft. You must install Toshiba nvidia display driver, Toshiba Bluetooth (monitor and stack), Toshiba texas flash media driver, toshiba RAID (driver and utilities), toshiba remote control manager and ConfigFree for Windows Vista.
You must have the Toshiba RAID drivers to install from the windows Vista DVD. Otherway, Windows does not recognize Toshiba RAID 0 and RAID 1.
Below some pictures of my G20 Desktop screen:
    http://www.rabayjr.com/vista/myqosmiog20screen1.jpg
    http://www.rabayjr.com/vista/myqosmiog20screen2.jpg
    http://www.rabayjr.com/vista/myqosmiog20screen3.jpg
And here is an example of using deskscapes animated backgrounds with Windows Vista, called dreamscene.
    It is in paused mode
    http://www.rabayjr.com/vista/myqosmiog20screen4.jpg
To perform a fresh install of windows Vista:
Please, download the Toshiba RAID drivers from here:
    http://www.rabayjr.com/vista/drivers/raid.rar
    1. Copy the contents of this archive onto a floppy disk, CD, DVD, or USB flash drive.
    2. Insert your Microsoft Windows Vista Edition Bootable DVD.
    3. Power on your computer and press F12 to display the boot menu.
    4. Choose the option to boot from the CD/DVD drive.
    5. On the first setup screen, choose your language options then press "Next".
    6. Press "Install Now".
    7. Type in your Product Key then press "Next".
    8. Accept the license terms by checking the box then press "Next".
    9. When asked "What type of installation do you want", press "Custom (advanced)".
    10. When asked "Where do you want to install Windows", make sure your media containing the Toshiba RAID drivers is connected to the computer, then click on "Load Driver".
    11. Browse to the location you have copied the RAID drivers to then press "OK".
    12. Setup will return to the previous screen, but it will show that you have selected the TOSHIBA RAID driver.
    13. Make sure the TOSHIBA RAID driver is selected then press "Next".
    14. Continue the installation of Windows Vista as normal.
Now you will need the Toshiba drivers for your Qosmio G20:
    See the Device manager info:
    http://www.rabayjr.com/vista/qosmiodrivers1.jpg
    Drivers:
    1. SD memory controller
    http://www.rabayjr.com/vista/drivers/SD_memory.rar
    2. Bluetooth monitor and stack
    http://www.rabayjr.com/vista/drivers/bluetooth_mon.rar

    http://www.rabayjr.com/vista/drivers/nvidia97.52.rar
    4. Texas FlashMedia controller

    And finally the Toshiba utilities:
    Toshiba Configfree
    Toshiba Assist
    RAID utilities
    Remote control manager
    Toshiba SD Memory utilities
    That's it...
So I must tell to you that Toshiba Qosmio G20 is Windows Vista Ultimate capable, indeed.
Hope this helps people who need and want to install Windows Vista Aero on their Qosmio G20 machines.

  • Qosmio G20: Can't read Roco brand DVD+RW disc

I have Roco brand 8x DVR+R and the Q G20 wont recognize the disc. I think it may be due to the Brand Roco since the Sony DVD+RW works fine except I cant save the video from the Sony to my HD.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks in advance.

I have solved this problem using Sonic Record Now!
I was able to copy my DVD using the Sonic Record Now that came with my Qosmio G20 to a Roco Brand DVD +RW. Once I made a copy of the orignal DVD, it did not work until I closed the Record Now and opened my media player. I could open using Real, Windows Media Player and WinDVD. None of these programs could read the DVD prior to recording and they could not format the disc.
    Thanks

  • Qosmio G20 : D-video pinout ?

Hi Qosmio users, I've been trying to output D1, D2, D3, D4 resolutions on a HD-ready LCD TV with no success. I can output standard PAL through the D-out plug at the back of the Qosmio, using the provided D-to-Scart cable, but when I output 480p, 720p, 1080i,... the LCD TV is out of sync.
I know the TV is able to receive 1080i signals, I have tested it with a HD camera video recorder (using component outputs).
So, I have checked the D-to-Scart cable and found that it only carries a composite video signal (plus the left and right audio signals).
Some people have suggested to buy a D-to-component cable in Japan, but I can't understand how it could work because it seems the D-out plug on the Qosmio is not the standard D4 connector as described on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/D4_video_connector
(there's no audio signals on these D4 connectors).
So, I'm looking for the pinout of the Qosmio D-connector...
Also, I am wondering if the Japanese D1, D2, D3, D4 analog HD standards are supported by european HD-ready TVs ?
    Thanks for any answer,
    Fabrice

First of all, what cable did you use for this test?
The D-video to scart cable provided with euro Qosmios is absolutely unable to do this, so it's no big surprise it didn't work. the Component signal is just not transmitted via Scart input on european TVs.
    But that's not all..
    > So, I have checked the D-to-Scart cable and found that
    > it only carries a composite video signal (plus the
    > left and right audio signals)
Yeah that's right, unfortunately, read below...
    > Some people have suggested to buy a D-to-component

    > (there's no audio signals on these D4 connectors).
You're absolutely right. It seems Toshiba Europe decided that we, european users, would have no use for the Component output so they made the D-Connector just a plug to output rotten composite through the "D-video to scart cable".
If you bought your Qosmio G20 in the US or in Japan, it would be able to output Component. (cables supplied with US&JP qosmios are the "D-connector to component" type.)
Even if the nVidia driver gives us the option for D1 -D4, the plug on our european units apparently just won't allow it.
Talk about misleading advertising, or worse, the marketing guys have strictly no idea what they're talking about.
I do have a Euro Qosmio, the E10, with D-connector plug and I have bought the "D-connector to Component" cable in Japan. I have no TV or HD screen to test it yet, but I strongly assume it will not work for the reason stated above.
It seems the D-connector plug output has been "adapted" for european needs (read: its original purpose has been totally destroyed).
What IS THE POINT of using this output plug for conveying a composite signal is beyond me. Especially since we already have S-VHS output which is fantastic compared to composite. No, i think Toshiba did this so that mr n00b-i-don't-care-about-quality makes it work easily on his TV by just having to plug the scart for both video + audio.
    Very, extremely sad.
Our only hope would be that the 4 signals (1 ground and 1 composite for video + audio left, audio right and ground for audio (prolly shared with ground for video)) leave some of the pins free for the component signal output.
I have yet to test on HDTV but i would be extremely surprised if it worked.
I would *love* anyone to prove me wrong on that one.

  • Can't get a picture from a plugged-in VHS player on Qosmio G20

Hi! Would be pleased if somebody could help me on the following:
    Got notebook Toshiba-Qosmio G20
I can't get a picture from a plugged-in VHS player. I've installed the VHS player in accordance with the PC manual through the Monitor-in socket and the enclosed cable. There's also an interesting remark in the manual: "before installing any device through the Monitor-in port, you should tune the Terminal Shape parameter (socket shape)". But there's nothing said on how or where this tuning should be done.
HELP! PLEASE! My stupidity is embarrassing!
    Many thanks in advance!

In fact I didnt find that Terminal Shape switch. Ive simply recorded the video from VHS player onto the notebook hard drive with WinDVD Creator 2 programme. And right after that I have encountered another problem the picture from the plugged-in VHS player was shifted downwards (the upper part of the frame was below, while the lower part was seen in the top of the screen). Ive tried plugging through S-Video and RCA, but it also didnt help. I would be very pleased if somebody could help me.

  • MPEG2 HW encoder on Qosmio G20?

    Hi all,
I have the "feeling" that into the Qosmio G20 there is a buildin MPEG2 HW encoder which permit (for example) to convert VHS tape to DVD directly (with the bundled Intervideo WinDVD Recorder 2!!)
Anybody has any details about it?!
    thank you

    HI,
there is no MPEG2 hardware decoder built in. I read a lot of Qosmio series in different online PC magazines and I read there is all software decoded!
You can check this by yourself and look at the Device Manager, you won't find a MPEG2 hardware decoding device!
perhaps tis site will help you with the VHS to DVD problem

    Hello Pattayamad,
    About your question:
Hi...I'm so confused!!!!....please can someone advise me......Been reading all the posts on this.....What is the best way to Connect G20-139 running Vista Home to a HD Plasma?????........
Right now you will not be able to connect your Qosmio g20 to a high definition TV. Not because the Qosmio, but because you are running Windows Vista on it. The actual nvidia drivers are not working properly to enable the Scan progressive output to your Plasma TV. You can use only the Svideo output, which is not so good. Lets wait for the new graphic drivers for the geforce go6600.
Can i buy a D-video to HDMI cable (searched the net but not sure on what i'm looking for in a cable...LOL).....any help please....i'm no expert!!!!
No, there is not a D-video to HDMI available. You can use the D-video to component cable (red, green and blue RCAs) or you can buy the SCART adapter to component, and use the cable supplied with your notebook (D-video to SCART) with this adapter.
but , if you want to output Scan progressive resolutions with the video component cable, you must use the windows media Center 2005 OS. Not working with Vista.

  • Qosmio G20-102: RAID problem when installing windows xp media center

First I didn't find the raid driver for my qosmio. I tried another Qosmio G20's RAID driver but when it reachs the stage when I ask windows to format the C driver it shows me an error. It says that it finds an error in the file KR10N and it ends there.
please help me and thank you.

    Hi
It seems that the Qosmio G20-102 belongs to the PQG20E series.
Searching on the Toshiba European driver page I found the RAID driver v1.03.0008 for Windows XP MCE (can be used also with XP Pro).
You will need an external USB FDD to include this driver into the OS.
But note; after the RAID driver installation you shouldnt format the HDD or create a new partition because this will delete the RAID driver from the HDD and the OS installation fails!
I hope I could help you would also appreciate a feedback ;)

Some cables have a wrong PIN assignment and therefore the TV connection not functions
In my opinion the cable should be checked
The other reason for the missing PAL scart option in the BIOS could be a wrong DMI setting. But this can be checked only by a ASP.
So try to contact the technician guys and talk to them about the problem of missing PAL scart option in BIOS.
    bye

  • Qosmio G20: How to get higher screen resolution on external 22" monitor

I have a Qosmio G20 and today I bought a Samsung 226BW external screen. The Samsung has a max/optimal resolution of 1680x1050px. The Toshiba manual sais the laptop supports an external screen resolution up to 2048x1536 ...
I have now tried all kinds of settings, but the highest resolution I get on the external monitor is 1440x900 (- same as the laptop).
1440x900 on the 22" screen is not enough for serious picture editing; it simply looks unsharp.
What am I doing wrong? I deeply appreciate any answers/feedback; because if 1440x900 is all I can get, I have to take the xternal monitor back to the store ...
if anyone is so kind !?
    Espen.

    Hi
The available screen resolution depends on the graphic driver. You cannot choose the favorite resolution of 1680x1050 because the graphic card driver doesnt support it.
Maybe a graphic driver update could helps.
By the way; a inf file should be supplied by the monitor manufacture. You can install such file making right click and choosing install.
