VCR - iMovie (with A - DV convertor) not importing

Relevant hardware/software: iMacG5, OS10.4.2, iMovie HD version 5.0.2, Hollywood DV-Bridge (made by Dazzle) to convert from analog -> DV.
Issue: Used to be able to import from VCR into iMovie with no problem. Used to work great! "Used to." Then lost power. I reconnected everything as before, but receiving "No Camera Attached" message in iMovie when trying to import.
What I've done: I've reconnected every cable. Turned on and off VCR, DV-Bridge. Used various channels (including L1 and L2) in VCR. Tried modes "Pass Through" and "A to D" in DV-Bridge. Rebooted iMac. Reinstalled iMovie. Still get "No Camera Attached" message in iMovie when I try to import.
What's happening now: The VCR and the DV-Bridge (A->DV convertor) seem to be working fine. I get green light on the DV-Bridge when playing VCR (as I'm supposed to), but still get "No Camera Attached" message in iMovie.
What am I missing? Is it something in iMovie (some setting perhaps)?
Please help! Thanks!

Anyone have a clue how I can open or convert the Adobe Connect FLV file?

I'm searching for an answer to almost the same exact problem, using almost the same exact hardware and software. Has an answer been found?
The files that I'm trying to burn come from eMusic, and they are formatted mp3. Recently, (after the iTunes update to 9.2.3?,) they would not drag and drop from iTunes into Toast. From several different discussions I've tried working around this by dragging to the desktop first then dragging and dropping to Toast, going to Toast from a programmer's homemade help window, " iToons," and today, after talking with Apple support, going directly to Toast from my eMusic folder. Alas, all recordings do not perform like they use to. Sometimes they play and sometimes not. There is one I managed, that is listenable, but sometimes I have to put it in my car stereo over and over again as it gets ejected with an error code, sometimes, finally it takes it... Some of the recordings on other disks I've burned are not clean - they have white-noise sounds creeping in... I use to have none of these problems. One time as I was listening to a CD that managed to play, and it just stopped playing... Is there an answer out there to get back to how it use to be? Thanks for you help.

  • IMovie 13 not importing audio

I have .avi files that I imported from a Sony digital tape camcorder. In the previous IMovie importing the .avi files worked great but in IMovie 13 the audi does not import. Other movies captured from the same camcorder work fine. I can't figure out a direct solution. Only thing that works is to a video convertor I found on the app store (WonTube Free Video Converter) to convert all 50 .avi's to .mp4 and then IMovie 13 imports the audio.
    What a pain.

Exactly, regarding the preview...my imovie session crashed...that's where the support person said that it points away from imovie and towards my camera. I was also able to record video within imovie and that did record the audio too, so I was feeling less confident that it had something to do with the imovie update, but now that I've read that others are sharing in my delight, it has to be something related to the update.
I still have a trouble ticket open with Apple Support and I'm waiting for them to returm my message stating that the hard drive format on the camera did not do the trick. (and that I've found others enjoying the same time killing troubleshooting excersises...:P
I will share what they tell me. (If I forget, reply to this post and that will send me a reminder email)

  • Imovie can not import error -4960

    Aloha Everyone,
Need some help again...I just imported some clips from my hard drive into Imovie. Then as I began to import the next few clips, imovie says that it can not import this file and gives me error 4960. I've tried to download the manuals etc to see what this error is, but to no avail. Could someone please tell me if you know what this error is...or where I can find that information.

  • Files not importing

I am getting a number of files that won't import into my iPhoto 09. I can't see anything odd about them. For example the last one that wouldn't go in was 8 bit, rbg, jpg. The error message simply says "The following files can not be imported." What are the reason file won't import?
    Thanks.

    Thanks for the quick response.
Long story short - my computer crashed when i was upgrading to leopard and ilife'09. So now that both are installed on a fresh computer, i launched iphoto '09 which didn't have anything in it. It automatically directed me to import pictures from the iphoto library on my backup/external hard drive. When I clicked okay, it then imported all those pictures and created an iphoto '09 library. But like i said, all the pics ending with _2.jpg would not import.
I haven't tried the open and save with preview trick yet but will try that. I worry that that is the only solution because I have about 3300 pictures affected by this problem.
    Thanks for your help TD.

  • ITunes(Mac) will not import video files

I just bought a new ipod and I was anxious to add some videos I created in iMovie. Unfortunately iTunes will not "import" or "Add to Library" nor can I drag and drop the videos to iTunes. I've tried iPod mp4, QT.dv and QT.mov formats. There is no error message, when dragging and dropping there is a green "+" circle like it is going to work but nothing is added to the movie library. My audio seems to be working properly but movies simply will not import. I have the latest iTunes (7.0.2) Can anyone help? If it makes a difference I am using my iMac G4, not the dual G5 listed on my profile.

The open-source, freeware HandBrake program processes your video or DVD, enabling you to bypass iTunes for this function. After processing, just drag and drop the video file to your computer-connected iPod.

  • Only CERTAIN videos will not import in BOTH versions of iMovie

Heya, I'm dying here, hoping someone can help:
I've been filming video with my camera, but for some reason, one out of every 6 or 7 times a file will absolutely not import into iMovie.
They play absolutely fine with audio and everything in Quicktime, but when I try to import to iMovie '08, they simply do not show up as thumbnails even though it goes through the whole "creating thumbnails" process.
When I try importing them into iMovie HD 6, I get a "file cannot be imported: unknown error" message.
Everything else I film with my camera and import into either version of iMovie works just fine! It's only certain ones... but it always happens to be the most important clips!
There's GOT to be some way to fix this, right?

Everything was filmed with the exact same settings.
Your argument here is "inductive" and does not confirm that all stored files are in fact in the same compression format and settings. You need to apply a "deductive" approach. As I implied and QT Kirk specifically stated, you need to actually examine the files to determine their internal specifications -- comparing the working with non-working files to look for differences.
I've tried Streamclip, but when I try to save it as an avi, mpeg, dv, or even a renamed mov file, it says "Error: Could not prepare clip"
If your are trying to use the "Save As..." option here, you are not, in fact, performing a "conversion" but rather merely attempting to place the same content in a different file container. MPEG Streamclip does not, for instance, have the ability to export non-MPEG2 content to MPEG (MPEG-2 'muxed" or elementary streams) which would be incompatible with iMovie '08 in any event. As to AVI, you mush have one of the required AVI QT components installed and the compression formats you are trying to place in the AVI container must be compatible with the AVI container which is itself compatible with iMovie '08 as long as its contents are already edit compatible. As to DV, this one one usually difficult to mess up unless you were trying to turn it into a transport stream.
today I tried taking the original quicktime MOV file from the camera (the one that plays just fine in quicktime AND streamclip, just won't convert or import)
This statement seems to imply that something is wrong with your attempted work flow. If the file opens and plays in the QT Player and MPEG Streamclip, then it should be convertible. Once again, the primary problem is determining how to best perform this conversion which is why Karsten, QT Kirk, and I need specific information regarding the actual compression format, whether or not the compression settings were compatible with the QT structure, and whether or not an extraneous track (e.g., a "Tweener") might be causing difficulties. Posting a screen capture of the "Inspector" and/or "Properties" window or a sample file should provide the needed information.

  • Importing Hi8 video into iMovie with ADVC 300 converter

Anyone know optimal settings for picture quality with this device? Am importing PAL analogue video with this device.
Secondly, when importing into iMovie, the event video window matches the aspect of the viewing window on the old Hi8 camera. In other words, the picture size is the same. However, when moving chosen clips to the project window the picture is effectively zoomed in, and does not match the event video size or the camera size.
How do I get the size in the project to have the same appearance as the event and camera?

    Hi Jon,
It appears that you have Stabilization turned on. This causes a slight zoomed in effect. Double-click on a clip to open the Clip Inspector. If checked, uncheck the box labelled "Smooth clip motion". This should fix the problem. See the following screenshot:
Also, to avoid this issue in future, click on the iMovie menu item "iMovie Preferences" and select the Browser tab. If checked, uncheck the boxes labelled "Automatically stabilize clips that have been analyzed" and "Apply rolling shutter correction for clips that have been analyzed". See the following screenshot:

  • HT3290 Video will not import after updating my iMovie from '09 to '11

I updated my imovie '09 to '11 and now my video files from my camcorder JVC (model GZ_MG330HU) will not import.  The video files show up in my iMovie library but when I try to create a project or movie and then share what I have created the files are listed as still on my camera and it says that I need to reimport.  It says to go the File Menu and click "Reimport from camera archive" but there is no such option.
I used to import my files with my old iMovie version and create mini home videos but now even those video files are not listed.  I would like to reload the old version.  How can I do that?  Will iMovie '11 get fixed?
    Help!

If there are problems with importing the IE Favorites in Firefox then export the favorites in IE to an HTML file and import that file in the Firefox Bookmarks Manager.
If you do not have the menu bar in IE then right-click the toolbar at the top to enable the Menu Bar.
*Export the favorites in IE to an HTML file (bookmarks.html):<br>File > Import and Export
*Import the HTML file in Firefox:<br>Bookmarks > Show All Bookmarks > Import & Backup > Import Bookmarks from HTML

  • Why do some AVI files not import into iMovie?

Some of my AVI video does not import into iMovie. When I try, it gives me a non-specific error message. Is there a way I can import it? Other AVI files import with no problem.

AVI is a container, not a format; the audio and video in an AVI may use any codec, and some codecs can't be used in Mac OS X. Installing Perian may help.

  • URGENT iMovie not importing video

    Hi there,
I have a really urgent iMovie project I need to have completed by Monday, however I am having extreme difficulty importing my last video file for some reason. I am uploading footage from a SONY HD HANDYCAM (it says HDR-SR11) and I am using iMovie '09. Very confused as have always been able to upload footage from the camcorder - in fact did it yesterday with no troubles - but when I go to import this one clip (12mins), it goes through the process of 'importing', however no actual footage/ thumbnails is uploaded on the iMovie screen. I have selected to view 'All Clips' so that is not a problem. I have also deleted all events/projects and tried again but that one video still will not import.
When I go into Finder I can see the clips there except they cannot be opened although they are from the exact same camera as the rest. I have also tried on another Mac computer but with the same result. I cannot import to iPhoto, nor does it let me export using the free version of MPEG-2 converter.
I am using the camera to computer USB cable by the way.
I really, really appreciate any help or advice in advance, and apologise if this is a trivial problem but can't seem to find any answers in the hours I have spent on it, nor online.
    Cheers,
    Norrista

    Hi Bengt W,
Thank you so much for your imput. I have tried the option you said about creating a new account, however that did not change anything.
In regards to your question about space - I assume I can just click Inspector on my iMac image - it says there are 7.94 GB free. And when I was 'importing' this video file into iMovie it said there was 2 hours 57 mins available which I thought would be fine as the clip is only 12 mins.
I really appreciate any further advice you can give me because I'm coming to the deadline now and it isn't something I can just go out and shoot again unfortunately.
And as a side note, I have tried selecting the Camera Archive option, but iMovie does not then allow me to import the files afterwards.
    Many thanks again,
    Norrista

  • Missing Audio / Sound in imovie with .AVI files when imported from iphoto

fortunately i don't need this answered, eventually figured it out my self, just thought it would be helpful to share the solution to this problem as I'm sure others have experienced it. The problem makes more sense when explained chronologically.
My wife has a Casio digital camera, and had recorded many Movies on it, they all sat in iPhoto all worked fine until i upgraded to Quicktime 7.5, then the audio disappeared. i tried in vain to fix (reinstalled QT 7.5, removed plugins, reinstalled etc.), but to no avail, so i left it - this was all under Tiger, i decided I'd upgrade to Leopard and see if the problem went away.
Before upgrading to Leopard i got iLife 08, when i first launched iMovie08 it pulled in all the movies from iPhoto, but they too had no sound.
Then i upgraded to Leopard, now the quicktime missing audio issue got fixed, so i could hear the audio again when launching quicktime via iPhoto (turns out the issue was with how quicktime was handling adaptive PCM audio stream) - i expected all would be fine in iMovie... but it wasnt.
after much experimentation i realised that i had to force iMovie to re-import all the video from iPhoto, this fixed the issue, but with no obvious way to do this, this is what i did:
    - opened finder, navigated to iphoto library, right click and chose 'show package contents'
    - navigated to the data folder and did a search on this folder only for all movie files (when imovie had originally converted iPhoto movie files into thumbnails it dropped all the thumb size movie files in this folder)
    - deleted all the movie files from the Data folder, making sure not to delete the movie files in any other folders & emptied trash
    - launched imovie, now all the iphoto movies were missing.
    - re-launch iPhoto, whilst holding down shift, option + command keys
    - checked 'rebuild the iphoto library database' only, once done, closed iphoto
    - re-launched imovie, this forced it to re-import all the movies from iphoto
... and then the sound was back.
    FYI
    this worked when using...
    OS 10.5.4
    QT 7.5
    iMovie 7.1.4
    iPhoto 7.1.4

    Hi MGW,
I do not no how things are handled when using HDV and technical documentation is hard to find on this topic of how photo are handled using HDV but in iMovie and most non HDV video editing software the picture is always 72ppi regardless of what is was/is on the outside and the images that appear the worst are the ones with less.
On a side note I don't use iPhoto because of all the superfluous files and thumbnails it creates and it disorganises my photos according to criteria that is completely irrelevant to me. I have had these thumbnails pop up in the browser in the past primarily with any photos that existed in the library prior to any updates. With what I have been working on as of late can understand how and why this could happen.
If you scroll through the media browser dose it appear that the library you are working with duplicates itself somewhere along the line or do you see double images side by side?
What are you machine specs and please include you screen/display size and graphics card information as this is the most relevant information at this point with what you are doing.

  • Some of my clips from my camera are not importing into iMovie`

I just got a new video camera and I started using iMovie for my first time with it. It's a Panasonic DVD video camera. The first time I loaded my DVD into my computer with it, it imported all of my clips just fine. But now it seems, random clips will not import. When I get my import screen, where I can check and uncheck movies from my DVD to import into iMovie, some clips have thumbnails and import correctly. Other clips have no thumbnail, but instead just have the little "filmstrip" graphic on them. iMovie still knows how many seconds those "mystery" clips are, and it still acts as if it is importing them when I check them. However, they don't show up in iMovie when I go to edit them. They are not blank clips, they simply just don't show up. However, on my camera, ALL of the clips play fine.
Why is iMovie not gathering thumbnails/importing certain clips but it gathers thumbnails/imports the others? I know the disc and the camera is fine because the camera will play them, sound and video. What is up with my iMovie/computer?

I'd like to add that after I import these clips without thumbnails, iMovie does give me an error and say that they could not be imported. No explanation as to why, though. Again, they play fine on my camera.
