1. Does the backup also copy the option keys to restore???
2. What is the time period for cluster replication and can it be changed??? If Yes how???

Why don't you register your endpoints to the VCS and use it as the call control server that it's supposed to be? Calling in and out of your network would be much easier to manage, and having all of your endpoint calling direct. If you're not sure how to configure your VCS with a dial plan or search rules, you should take a look at this guide: VCS Basic Configuration (Single VCS Control) Deployment Guide. You don't mention if you have a VCS Expressway, but if you do, you would go by this guide: VCS Basic Configuration (Control with Expressway) Deployment Guide.
You don't mention what the endpoints are - model, software version, etc? Check that NAT is setup correct on the endpoints and the firewall, making sure that the H323 ports are not being blocked anywhere.
As Vernon suggested you should consider upgrading to X8.5, X1 is 8+ years old and outdated, plus there is no telling how many vulnerabilities it might have.

Call/video not working between Cisco jabber for Windows and VCS control C40s

Hello,
I've been struggling with no luck how to make a call using Cisco Jabber for Windows 9.6.0 registered to CM 8.6.2 with intercluster ICT to another CM 8.6.2 where we have a VCS Control 7.0.2 via GK H225, and all C40s are registered as H.323.
The VCS has interworking between H323 and SIP, however not sure if there is any problem with that. Assuming it is ok, not sure either if I'm facing any interoperability issue because in my remote site I have C40 (H323 registered at VCS and SIP listening mode) and cisco jabber for windows which is SIP based.
If is not possible, would I be able to change my C40 from H323 to SIP at VCS, or have both H323/SIP registered at VCS? If so, will I need to change as well instead of GK I'll have to establish a SIP Trunk between the CM and VCS?
Another thing I do not believe either I would be able to have one VCS connected with two clusters, right?
I'm just trying to find a solution in case my current topology is not compatible, but feel free if you have any better idea to make it work.
Anyway here is what is happening:
When I make a call from my cisco jabber windows to C40 using alias number. The call is being redirected just fine to the C40 and it rings, however when someoene or the auto answer picks it up, the call dropped right away.
However, if I enabled the MTP in my CSF device, the call gets longer before dropping. I was even able to see my jabber " start video" turns green, before was grayed out all the time and the call dropped faster. I hear a fast busy tone.
I'm able to provide SDI traces, logs, diagnostic sip/h323 calls from VCS in order to know for sure if this is an incompatible issue or something I can workaround.
Let me know if someone of you are interested in read these logs or could point me on the right direction.

I have looked at both logs. I have to mentinon though that you didnt
provide the log that shows the h323 setup between cucm and the VCS. This
is most likely because the call originated from a different cucm than
the ones you provided the logs from.
The call would have orginated from the first cucm in the cucm group of
this trunk: Name=RL_TRUNK_VIDEO
The cucm ip will be : 10.252.53.10.
This is the VCS log that confirms where the h323 request originated

Info required for VCS control and expressway upgradation

Hi Folks
We have a VCS control and VCS expressway in our enviornment.VCS control is in cluster with another VCS control and same is for VCS expressway.We are planning these to upgrade it on X8.1 version both control and expressway.Your experts view are required on the below points :-
1) The VCS control is configured in cluster how we need to proceed with upgradation first with master or with slave VCS.
2) Where we can take the backups of the VCS
3)Whre we can download the software for both expressway and control
4) Both VCS control and expressway are in communication with each other.Which one we need to upgrade first expressway or control.

Hi Tarun,
If you are thinking to go on x8.1 then obviously i assume that you must be running TMS-PE for provisioning.
Compared to legacy (opends) method, PE is more flexible and it is simple to upgrade.
i will suggest you to go through the below document for upgrading the cluster.

- i think you should first take the backup of VCS, atleast backup of master server. to do that go to maintenance and from there you would go to "backup and restore" and backup the VCS
- you can go ahead with upgrading your VCS slave first and then master, atleat i take that approach!! i never saw any issues with that may be some one else take a second approach.
- you would be able to download the software at the below page.

I assume you mean your apple ID security questions, correct?
First, did you have a recover/rescue email set up? If so, go to appleid.apple.com on a computer or mac and sign in and go to security and passwords... from there you can have your security questions reset... if you didn't have a rescue/recovery email set up then you'll need to contact apple support to have them reset. They will transfer you to account security where they will verify some info and help you... good luck!

Installation VCS Control and Expressway vmware applications on one BE6000

I want to buy one BE6000 and additional VCS Expressway vmware application. Then I'm going to deploy VCS Control vmware application and VCS Expressway vmware application on this BE6000. Also I plan to place this BE6000 in the DMZ.
Please help me, may I do that kind of deployment - VCS Control and Expressway vmware applications on ONE BE6000 ?

Design UCM - Expressway - VCS Control - interconnection?

I've been looking around to find the preferred design when deploying a UC environment with UCM, Expressway C&E and a VCS control for registration and call control of legacy VC endpoints.
Between UCM & Expressway-C: SIP trunk
For the VCS Control I prefer neighbouring with Expressway because it is easier with the zones and search rules to make a routing plan.
But for each cal going across the Expressway-C (UCM-> Exp-C -> VCS Control) a RMS license will be consumed.
So is it better to make a SIP trunk between VCS Control and UCM to avoid the use of RMS's? But how to route calls on the UCM when you can only the poor 'SIP Route Pattern' routing function of the UCM?
Any advice / thoughts on this?

You cannot register devices on a Exp-C. For this you need to use a VCS-C to register legacy vc endpoints such as MXP, Polycom, etc.

Fan control questions

I have a mid 2008 2.8Ghz iMac with the stock 320 Gb HD and 4 Gb ram. It runs fine but I am worried about how hot the case gets at times, in particular the top left corner. I have iStat widget installed too which shows what I think are reasonable temps most of the time, but sometimes even after just everyday use (browsing etc...) some of the temps seem high (power supply is presently at 75c). The fan speeds don't seem to increase much at all from the factory minimums. I know about smc fan control and iMac fan control, but I have a couple of questions before I decide to use them.
1. Do you think I need to be worried about this?
2. What damage could I cause by running the fans harder?
3. If I use these utilities to push the fans harder than Apple recommends, will I void my Apple Care?

An utility like smcFanControl only changes the minimum fan speed setting. You are still running the fans well below its maximum capability. So the change is to the low end of the speed range, not the high end. You CAN set it high enough so that the minimum fan speed sounds like a small vacuum cleaner, but I would not set it that way for any length of time. I just tried it once to see what it sounded like with the fans running at a high speed (never heard them before). There is a max possible setting, so you can't set it to a crazy high number.
I use smcFanControl and have the fans set about 25% higher than the default speed. I still can't even hear them at that setting, so I figured I wasn't doing any harm and it may help my iMac run cooler (not that noticed any issues with heat).
I can't see how it would void AppleCare. Unless you set it to sound like a vacuum cleaner all the time (which would be really annoying), you are running the fans well within their normal operating range.
Note: The adjusted minimum fan speed is only in effect while smcFanControl is running in the background. It does not change any system or hardware settings. To go back to the default settings, just quit smcFanControl.

I have a few trivial Labview Control questions

I'm trying to customize the look of a boolean switch control with the CTL Editor, but I cannot seem to "Import picture" with transparent color information. the original switch has transparent colors, but the clipboard either doesnt store the transparency, or Labview only recognizes one particular color as transparent. How do I do this? (actually trying to make a circuit-diagram-looking switch, if one exists, I wont need to do the above)

I have a "vertical pointer slide" with 7 pointers, and I'm using "fill to value below" with different colors between each slide. Whenever sliders are at the same value, the fill color of an incorrect slider shows, rather than the slider immediately following. How do I
fix this behavior?

Command-line type itunes control - questions

I'm writing a little tool with Applescript to control iTunes via command-line type interface. I have few general questions, thanks in advance for any answers. First I'll explain my idea, questions at the end. (If wrong forum, please tell me where to go)
The goal: to control music with as less hassle as possible. I listen music all day, have dozens of gigabites of it, and find mouse/iTunes interface too troublesome. Moodkiller whilst reading a book, for example.
Tool is pop-up dialog, with a single text field. Write something and hit enter -> search phrase or command interpreted and sent to iTunes as Applescript -> iTunes acts, and a new dialog pops up, ready for next command. (Enter with no text quits app)
Examples:
"oasis wonderwall"
Searches iTunes library and finds Wonderwall of Oasis. Displays a pop-up list of search matches, in this case just one song. Hit enter -> iTunes plays it. (If more results, I get to choose song from list.)
I find this quicker than to activate iTunes search box with mouse, enter search string, activate results pane with several TAB:s etc...
"trip-hop"
Searches an iTunes library, finding over two hundred "trip-hop" genre songs. This time just plays random song among results (thumb rule: if number of results > 100, behave that way, otherwise as above). Library continues playing from that point. Usually means you get to hear a lot of trip-hop. (could also make new trip-hop playlist)

Command: skip to next song. ">>>" skips 3 songs at once, ">>>>" four songs etc
"<"+" increases three notches, "++" four etc.
Decrease volume, again "---" three notches etc.
"play", "pause", "stop"
Basic player commands, you name it.

Searches song and adds it to end of current playlist (if more than one result, choose from list).
Other ideas too, but you propably got the point.
My questions:
1) Any applications currently doing this kind of job? With iTunes or other music players? (You can use Quicksilver for iTunes song searching, but I'm not certain if that's very handy or fast)
2) Would you use this kind of tool, if it were good? (just a theoretical question) If yes, how would you like to control it?
3) I have used Applescript's basic "display dialog" and "choose from list" commands, but would love more customized pop-ups (fancier song lists etc). Pointers to good scripting additions to accomplish this? Currently the entire tool is made with Applescript.
If this raises interest, I could post the tool somewhere. It's still very early draft, anyway.

Thank you for your comment, but I was able to find the problem (didn't solve it yet): In the FM command line interface, calling a HEX file located in a folder with brackets in its name, such as "C:\hello_World(V1)\LabVIEW.hex" will not be recognized by the FM.exe, whereas "C:\hello_World_V1\LabVIEW.hex" will work just fine. In the Flash Magic GUI and Command Line Manual section on hex files there is no mention of that, my solution at the moment is to remove the brackets from folder names.

Parent control question

On iMac, when enable parent control with selected web sites, and when using safari to open selected web site, parent control window continue to pop up asking for accessing additional web site such as google-analytics.com, doubleclick.com, etc, i need either select the web site(need admin privilege) or click OK whcih basically ignore the pop up window. This is very annoying. How can I keep this parent control window from popping up ? I want to ignore all the question silently.

We are developing an app whereby we need to expose some database queries to the
front end developers. For example, say there is a Product table. We want to create
general Product queries such "getProductByName", "getProductPrice", etc and provide
these queries to the front end. The approach I am taking is to expose all these
functions in a control (ProductControl). ProductControl at this point is talking
to ProductDAO which in turn is interacting with the db and making queries.
There is talk in the company of using LiquidData (LD) in the near future. Since
LiquidData comes with it's own LiquidData control which will expose similar methods
once the datasources are mapped using the control, I dont want the developers
using ProductControl to have to change their code, and so in my opinion, I should
be able to throw away ProductDAO and plugin the LiquidData control and everything
should be fine.
My questions are :
- Is this assumption correct ? Is this a sound architectural design or should
I be aware of some issues with LD ?
- Should my ProductControl be calling ProductDAO (plain java dao class) or should
I make ProductDAO a control as well ? Is there a benefit to be gained by making
the DAO a control ?

I'm not all that familiar with LD, but the design approach looks correct to me.
ProductControl should provide a consistent interface such that other tiers of
the application can be sheilded from changes to the data access mechanism. As
for ProductDAO, I would use a database control unless there is a reason not to.
It should provide the capabilities you need without having to write and maintain
the database interaction logic. It also provides automatic mapping of results to
domain objects, so you don't have to write all that code either.
