Vector art from Illustrator showing up pixelated in Photoshop

I am trying to copy art in Illustrator and paste it into Photoshop but  no matter what I do it's showing up pixelated or low resolution.
I have the Document Raster Effects setting in Illustrator set to 300 ppi.
When I copy the art and go to Photoshop and start a new document the clipboard preset says 72 ppi instead of 300.
I changed it to 300 but my art was still coming in low res.
Just found out that if I switch the units to inches from pixels in the new document window and then change the resolution to 300 it seems to work how I want it to.
Is there a setting that will copy the artwork in illustrator at 300 ppi so that when I start a new document in photoshop it will recognize the clipboard data as 300?
Thank you

Vector art in AI has no set resolution. It is set only on output.

  • My vector drawings in illustrator cs3 look pixelated plz see screenshot

    **** Notice the side of the girls hair its very serrated and somewhat blurry as well look down at her arm at the very bottom
    I am using a mac os x version 10.5.8 and have been using Illustrator cs3 that I purchased for about 2 years and its never had this problem till now. I've just recently noticed a few days back that my vector drawings created in illustrator are looking serrated on the edges of my drawing, and this jagged serrated line goes all along the sides of the vector image and doesn't seem to go away when I zoom in or out......
    And from what I know vector drawings created in illustrator can be resized and never pixelate but i don't know why its doing this.
    I've searched online for all the possible remedies but nothing seems to get rid of that serrated line which makes my images look fuzzy on the sides.
    I've made sure that I'm in preview and not pixel preview but that didn't work.
    I went to my illustrator preferences to make sure that anti-aliasing is checked but that didn't seem to fix it either.
    I went under the effects menu and clicked on Document Raster Effect Settings and changed that to 300ppi but that didn't do it either.
    And also when I take my vector drawing from illustrator into photoshop, the serrated lines become more evident. I don't know what to do. The strange thing is that when i print the images out from my printer, the serrated edges don't show up.
    But here's the thing: when I open up my past work that I created in illustrator when I wasn't having this problem, for some reason they are also now showing up with that serrated line on the edges, its really weird!!!!!
    I've tried everything except for reinstalling the software, but just wanted to know if someone could help me before I tried this step or knew of something that might have gone wrong.
    I also downloaded illustrator trial version cs5 today, and its doing the same thing as my illustrator cs3!!!!
    Plz help!!!

    I was experiencing the exact same thing in Illustrator CS5. There was a pixelated edge on a vector drawing that was showing up. At first I assumed it was an anti aliasing setting or pixel preview or document raster settings as you did. Then because all else failed I was about to assume it was a screen artifact or bug of some kind.
    However, the upon further analysis I found the solution-and it was right under my nose. I had applied an effect to the vector object (an outer glow) and–because I was going to scale it down drastically from the size I had originally drawn it at –I had gone to the object menu and expanded the appearance of the object which caused my outer glow effect to become a rasterized shape underneath my original object.
    To remedy this: I simply zoomed in on the pixlelated object, selected it, ungrouped it, selected the top vector object path, nudged it to the right–REVEALING THE RASTERIZED SHAPE BENEATH!
    So I would reccomend you try two things:
    First select the view menu and choose "Outline" (command or control Y), then look to see if you have any solid "blocks" -this could indicate a rasterizing of some sort has taken place underneath your vector objects. To get back to regular display just choose "overprint from the view menu.
    Secondly, you could select the vector object that appears pixelated and then check in the "Appearance Panel" to see if an effect (such as a drop shadow or outer glow) has been applied ,possibly inadvertently. Because just the applying of an effect will cause a "pixelated, jaggy edge" when viewed at high zoom percentages, or indeed any resolution for that matter.
    Hope this helps-

    Bought a new Canon MG7540 printer to replace the old HP A618. When printing vector objects from Illustrator, they look like graphics from dandy (8 bits) ... no smooth, all cubes ... if do raster than print perfectly.  Who knows how to treat it? No well to rasterize vector before each printing. OS - MacOs 10.10.

    Have you read the User's Guide for that printer?  Odds are you will get reasonable prints.  However, it is a photographic printer.  That said, it should print excellent quality photographic files.  To get smooth lines in Illustrator, try Preferences > Use Anti-Aliased Artwork.  That will smoothen the output.  If, for some reason, that does not work, try Print > Save As PDF > open PDF in Reader and print from there.  Check the User's Guide for media sizes available for your particular printer.  Setup your artboard to the size page you want the image to print on.  Use View > Show Page Tiling ( to see where the page's printable area lies.  Align the page with the artboard using the Page tool.

  • Jagged vector graphics from Illustrator in Indesign

    Using CS3, Leopard, have all updates.
    I'm having problems with vector graphics created in Illustrator getting jagged when dragged from Illustrator to Indesign (or copied and pasted or placed as Illustrator file). They look jagged (stair stepped) in InDesign, also in Acrobat after exporting a pdf, and after printing. The vector image in question is a rectangle with rounded corners with an "Envelope Distort - make with warp" applied to it. Is the problem that I'm trying to drag an envelope distorted graphic into InDesign? Are there settings to make this work?

    "They look jagged (stair stepped) in InDesign, also in Acrobat after exporting a pdf, and after printing."
    Doesn't sound like a screen preview issue to me.
    If a placed AI file has jagged edges on print and in PDF, but looks good in Illy, then something is amiss. Your transparency settings could be set to rasterize the line art. Make sure you're using one of the canned flattener presets (high, med, low) if there is any transparency in your page (little checkered icon by the page icon in the page palette).

  • Bringing vector graphics from illustrator photoshop final cut express.

    I'm having a heck of a time getting my logo from illustrator to photoshop to final cut express. It is squishing it. It looks jagged in photoshop. I am cutting and pasting from an eps file to a photoshop doc that is for film and video. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong.
    Thanks to anyone who has answers.

    If you have a problem with working with Photoshop you probably want to go to the Adobe forums.
    If you're placing the vector graphic in a Photoshop file make it whatever size you need it to be. You're video image is the square pixel equivalent of 720x540. If you need the logo to fill the frame from edge to edge then make it that size. If you need it smaller, make the PSD smaller.

  • How do I copy and paste vector art from one layer to another, keeping all of its attributes?

    When I copy a vector shape from one layer to another, the shape picks up the color attributes of an existing shape in the second layer (or sometimes only the outline of the shape appears). What to I do to avoid this from happening (I just just want to paste the shape in its original form and color)?

    OK - I guess this is a little more difficult than I imagined...
    Merge Layers rasterizes all the vector shapes - I want all the shapes to stay as vectors in the second (pasted) layer.
    Merge Shapes changes the color of the copied vector shape - I don't want to change the color
    Shape Layer via Copy [Ctrl] +[J] copies the layer containing the vector shape, but doesn't paste it into the second layer
    Any other ideas? Or, is it possible that PhotoShop doesn't support varied colored vector shapes on the same layer? I am coming from an InDesign background, and there was no issue having many different (colored) vector objects on the same layer.

  • How do you transfer line art from Illustrator to Photoshop?

    I created a set of icons in illustrator and would like to move them to photoshop as shape layers. The icons are created from the strokes of shapes, and when I paste them into photoshop, the shape fills in and I lose the stroke. I could add a stroke in photoshop, but it misses any internal strokes that I have drawn. I could plate them as smart objects, but I would prefer them to be shape layers. How can I get these icons into photoshop?

    Dear vbach: If by "Line art" you mean Line art in the original sense, i.e., black lines on a white background, I've been doing it for twenty-odd years, copying from AI to PS. It's gotten better lately with the shaped lines now available in AI. I don't have to outline anything. Select lines in Illustrator, copy, switch to PS, and paste into a new or existing file. See attached half-size jpeg. Is this what you mean?

  • Cover art from TV Shows won't sync to iPhone 6, movies do

    My iPhone 6 will accept my movies from iTunes, but not TV Shows.  All of this content syncs perfectly with my iPhone 5, but not my iPhone 6.  I have no idea why.  The cover art doesn't make it over for TV shows, yet there seems to be a gray place holder in the Videos app.  What has changed?  Some TV shows seem to be there but with no cover art, and they won't play. Others have no cover art either, but they play.

    How did a bug solve the problem?
    I experience the same problem with covers - the problem is ages old and nothing gets done to fix or at least explain it - :-(
    iOS8.1 does not fix this awful awful bug :-(

  • Sort Vector Art from Bitmaps

    Hi,
    I have a folder containing over 2000 eps files and need to separate these into raster images and those containing vectors.
    The script I am using opens each file in turn and uses the first layer name to determine if the file has been rasterised or not. If not then I update some meta data and close and save the file. If the layer name is "layer 1" I assume the file has vector artwork and has been rasterised, I then close the file without saving changes.
    ____________ the script__________
    var samplesFolder = Folder("J:/Extracted_Standing_Artwork/Non_Customer")
    var fileList = samplesFolder.getFiles("*.eps");
    for (var i = 0; i < fileList.length; i++) {
    if (fileList[i] instanceof File) {
    var fileRef = new File(fileList[i]);
    app.open( fileRef, );
    var layer = app.activeDocument.activeLayer.name;
    var filePath = decodeURI(app.activeDocument.path);
    var fileName = decodeURI(app.activeDocument.name);
    if (layer=="Layer 1"){
    app.activeDocument.close(SaveOptions.DONOTSAVECHANGES);
    else{
    app.activeDocument.info.author = "Bitmap"
    epsSaveOptions = new EPSSaveOptions()
    app.activeDocument.close(SaveOptions.SAVECHANGES)
    __________ end ____________
    The result is raster files in the folder with a very recent modified date and untouched vector files.
    Can anyone please suggest a better way of doing this.
    It is possible to test for the "Rasterize Generic EPS Format" dialog box?
    Can a javascript then "move" the vector files into a new folder to leave just the rasters in the orginal folder.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Simon Kemp

    Line 1 defines the function.
    line 2 sets the file object from the argument to the var test. This line is not really needed, I could have just used the file argument. It's likely a hold over from a previous edit.
    Line 3 opens the file in read mode.
    Line 4 reads the entire file and assigns it to str.
    Line 5 closes the file for good housekeeping.
    Line 6 search the string in str for 'Adobe Photoshop' and assigns the result to res. res will either be -1 if not found or the start position in the str if it was found.
    Line 7 tests the contents of res and either returns true or false. This line could be rewritten as an if statement
    if( res == -1){
    res = true;
    }else{
    res = false;
    return res;
    Line 8 closes off the function block.
    Hope that helps

  • After Effects is warping my imported vector graphics from Illustrator

    I was given an Illustrator vector to import into After Effects. But whenever I import the graphic into a composition it quite literally squishes the image and changes the colours of the graphic slightly.
    I have a feeling that it is not after effects that is creating the problem, but with the illustrator file itself.
    Does anyone know any options in Illustrator that would alter the file to cause this problem? Or why it is behaving like this?
    I also asked the same question in an After Effects forum to see if it is a different problem.
    Thanks for your time.

  • Old clip art from Illustrator 88

    I'm looking for a file "American view globe.eps" that I believe was included in Illustrator 88. Unfortunately I no longer have those disks. Does anyone have a copy of this file or could tell me where to find it. It doesn't turn up on a google search. Thanks, Jon

    Opened Inkscape on my Mac using their mickey mouse emulator X11.
    When I tried to import the CMX I got this error notice:
    Inkscape has received additional data from the script executed.  The script did not return an error, but this may indicate the results will not be as expected.
    You need to install the UniConvertor software.
    For GNU/Linux: install the package python-uniconvertor.
    For Windows: download it from http://sk1project.org/modules.php?name=Products&product=uniconvertor and install into your Inkscape's Python location.
    Don't know what to do with that.

  • Pasting from illustrator to the center of Photoshop CS5.5

    Hi, I have an illustrator file (various circles and half circles) built with various layers, I would like to copy and past these layers into photoshop and change them to a shape layer, but when copying each layer and pasting the vector falls in slightly different place to the illustrator file, how can I keep the postion the same as the illustrator?
    thanks

    Scripting might have provided a solution – but writing the Script might have taken more time than doing it like this.
    So unless the task is a very frequent one for you it’s probably not worth the trouble.

  • Motion 3 w/ Vector Art

    Hello all.
    I would like to find out what the easiest step by step process is for using 'Vector Art' from Illustrator to Motion 3 is?
    Basically, I'm looking to create a 5-10 second kaliedascope effect of a bunch of vector 'layer's from an eps file and create some 'replicator/kali effects.
    See www.shiny.tv (lollapalooza) for a sample of the goal.
    Can someone explain the best way to export individual layers from EPS and bring them into M3?
    Also, if you have any recommendations on the style of the aformentioned piece, that would be great too.
    Much thanks,
    b

    Illustrator files can be imported directly into Motion with no issues, and can be scaled up infinitely without loss of quality.
    Well IMHO this is not true. Motion does not import individual layers of Illustrator files, only the composited image. To animate individual elements, you have to manually save them as separate files, which, for me, is an time consuming "issue".
    And to be precise, Motion imports vector PDF files, and Illustrator files saved with PDF compatibility.
    For more control, I suggest you check out this free script to enable Illustrator paths to be imported and converted to Motion's in-built shapes, meaning adjusting control points etc is possible.
    http://www.motionsmarts.com/downloads/IL2MotionShape.zip
    Right now this script doesn't work in Motion 3. The script exports only basic shapes, it does not export more complex shapes with clipping masks.
    I think the most flexible script to work with vector graphics can be found at Adobe Exchange:
    http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/exchange/
    Go there and search for a "Layers to PDF" script. It saves all your Illustrator layers into separate PDF's that can be imported into Motion.

  • Vector Artwork Dragged from Illustrator Looks lo-res

    Hi everyone,
    I have dragged a piece of vector artwork from Illustrator into a Photoshop file like I have done a thousand times before.  It looks and behaves just like a smart object/vector just fine in the Photoshop file, when when I save the file out as a PDF, the smart object looks exremely lo-res like  a lor-res raster file.  I have never seen this before.  Smart Objects usually lose no resolution when saved out in a PDF, even if you save the PDF as "Smallest File Size"
    What have I missed? Can anyone help?
    Thanks in advance!
    Kit

    Even Vector Smart Objects are pixel in output, so just to make sure:
    Does the SO look bad in the psd-file or only in the pdf?
    Because in latter case your pdf-settings would be the likely culprit.

  • FAQ: Why are my vector graphics (e.g., from Illustrator) jagged or soft?

    (For a video version of this frequently asked question and answer, click this link.)
    After Effects must convert imported vector graphics to bitmap (raster) graphics. By default, this conversion (called "rasterization") happens once for a layer, and it happens before transformations, like scaling. This means that scaling such a layer up is really scaling a bitmap image, and that can expose jagged pixelation.
    You can tell After Effects to rasterize after transformations like scaling, and to do so once per frame, to ensure that each frame is as crisp as possible. Just click the Continuously Rasterize switch for the layer.
    This is only an issue for imported vector graphics (from Illustrator, SWF, EPS, and PDF files). Vector graphics created in After Effects, like text and shape layers, are always continuously rasterized.
    For more information, see"Continuously rasterize a layer containing vector graphics".

    I'm going to answer my own question and then ask another.... Why?
    When I open just one PDF document it look great. but when i open two, the second
    document always has this fuzziness to the edges. Doesnt matter which documents I open
    This is a close up of two documents opened and the windows placed over each other. As hopefully you can see
    in this screen capture, the one on the right has a furry edge and looks quite rough. Its the document opened second.
    Any ideas?
