Vector to png - image won't save as correct size

Working in CS5
I have a vector image that I need to resize and save as a .png.
I first create an artboard to the correct size I need (55x20 pixels), shrink my vector image to fit and then export to .png using the artboard as my boundaries (so that I get the correct size).
Problem is, the resulting file is not 55x20, it is 229x83 (when I open in Photoshop).  I can't figure out why the file is not saving to the correct size.
I have also tried opening the file in photoshop and resizing down, but that doesn't work either.  My image becomes very distorted.
I don't generally work in pixels or pngs...what would be the best program and process to do this.  It doesn't seem like it should be so difficult, but for some reason it is!
Thanks!

That woudl be the result if you had chosen 300 dpi. Make sure you choose 72 ppi
If you still haev trouble you can use save for web rather than export.

  • Image won't save in my e-mail signature

Hoping someone can help me, I have tried adding an image to my e-mail signature by going into mail preferences and then dragging and dropping and image into an existing mail signature that I have created previously.
The thing is, every time I close mail and open it back up again the image never is saved to my e-mail signature.
The account I have set-up is link hosted by GoDaddy with my own domain name.
I have 5 accounts set-up and each account has it's own assigned mail signature.
I don't know why the image won't save in my e-mail signature????

I am having this same issue.  I am not using a pic or html.  Its just Text.   This is on my .ME Email Account.

  • N96 Photo Editor - Edited image won't save

When I open a photo, and select 'Edit' from options, I rotate my photos to the correct composition (as they were taken upside down!) and then from options I select 'Save'. The progress bar appears to indicate the device is processing the change.
However on returning back to the image menu, the photo simply reverts back to how it was before. Which is annoying as with the auto rotate switched on its impossible to look at photos when are upside down!
Am I missing something out or is there a bug in the image editor?
    Hope you can help, thanks
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi,
I've just tested this and you are right - it does revert back to displaying the original photo after saving. If you then just click "Back" to return to the menu, you may no see the image depending on which option you selected when you went into "Photos".
The new image won't appear in "Captured items" because it is not an image actually taken with the phone's camera. If you go back to the Photos menu and select "All", your edited image should appear in there.

  • Boot Camp Assistant Can't Move Files? Image won't save ('resource busy')

I've been trying to set up boot camp and every time I go to partition the drive I get this message:
Back up the disk and use Disk Utility to format it as a single Mac OS Extended (Journaled) volume. Restore your information to the disk and try using Boot Camp Assistant again.Back up the disk and use Disk Utility to format it as a single Mac OS Extended (Journaled) volume. Restore your information to the disk and try using Boot Camp Assistant again.
My drive is already set up as an OS Extended (Journaled) volume. I went to try to save a disk image and it won't save b/c it always says resource is busy. Well obviously I need to use the computer to back up it's own hard drive so of course it's busy.
Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Are you sure you had enough free space on the drive for the Windows partition you tried to create? Have you tried repairing the drive?
Repairing the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger and Leopard.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now restart normally.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior (4.0 for Tiger, and 4.1 for Leopard) and/or TechTool Pro (4.6.1 for Leopard) to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.

  • My images won't save as jpeg unless I go to Save As... what is happening to my images?

My images look great when edited in photoshop and when I got to close and save it won't give me the option to save as a jpeg so I have to go to File Save As and then save to jpeg. But when I go to order them in Roes they look drab and awful but the thumbnail looks great. Am I saving it wrong somehow?

Go to Image --> Mode and set image to 8 or 16 bit. If the image has 32 bit, it won't export through the save for web dialog.
Let me know if this fixes the issue.

  • Lightroom 4 won't save color correction to .R3D file

Really didn't have problems until export. I'm amazed with how fast Lightroom plays playback on .r3d files. Anways after all the color correctrion is done I try to export the file to its original format (r3d) but upon playing the file in Red Cine-X, non of the color corrections I made are saved. It's as if I didn't edit the file at all. However if I choose to save the file as a H264 and play the file, all my corrections are saved. So it only doesn't work if I choose to export my file as the original R3d format. Anyone know whats wrong or how to solve this?

    Hi mikey,
LR never writes to original files, and it does not do sidecars for videos.
So in order to view your LR adjustments outside LR you need to use a format which LR can write to, like H264.

  • Picture won't save to smaller size?

Hi.  I'm very new to photoshop, but could not find an answer in any help menu or manual or otherwise so I'm out of options!  I keep trying to shrink the image size of a certain picture (it's much too large) and layer it on top of another picture, but the size never changes.  I've gone through the proper steps to change the height and width in the "Image Size" option, and I thought I was doing it correctly, but apparently not.  I'm sorry if I sound like a peon, but I'm learning as I go here!  Is there any help out there?  Thank you!

You'd have to change the pixel dimensions of your image.  In the Resize dialog box check Resample and then make your changes.  Easier yet, you can activate the Move tool and pull in on one of the corner boxes until you have the right size.  Depending on your version of PSE, you may or may not have to hold the Shift key while doing so to avoid distortion.

  • Using .png images in a website?

Being new'ish to Fireworks and the .png format I am really amazed at the quality of png's in a webpage and how the hold their quality. In web design I tend to like placing text over images and this can often have quality issues as text tends not to work to well with a jpeg unless you increase the resolution before hand.
I have found that while I edit an image in FW and place text over an image if I then save as a jpeg the image may not be as clear as I would like, if I keep it as a .png the quality is perfect.
I know why this is but on doing some research have found that .png's are still not universally used across may web browsers and as a result it is advised not to use them.
Some forums say they are fine while others say the opposite in using 'png's in web design, does anyone have any thoughts on this?
I want to use .png's in my web design instead of jpegs but am undecided from what I read on the Internet so would appreciate any thoughts you may have regarding this.
    Many thanks, Pete.

    On PNG images:
When you "save" from Fireworks, the file contains extra information in the file header which is proprietary to FW. The file will be viewable in a browser, as browsers just ignore the extra information, but the file is larger than is needed for a Web page. To create a .png file for a browser, you want to "export." (I like using the Image Preview function, myself.) There is no difference in the file extension between a fully-editable FW document .png and a flattened exported .png. In a thread some time ago, a poster commented that he gave his Fireworks documents a .fw.png extension, and exported to the plain .png. I've tried to adopt that approach and I find it helps me keep better track of what's what in my folders. It's up to me to remember to do it, though.
Exported PNG images can be 32-bit, 24-bit or 8-bit. Here's the difference:
A 32-bit PNG will represent your FW document with transparency. All the objects will be flattened, of course, but transparent and partially transparent areas will be preserved. The file is 32-bit as you have 8-bits each for red, green, blue, and transparency. Eight bits of data gives you 256 values. (Note: Photoshop calls this a version of the format a 24-bit PNG with transparency.)
A 24-bit PNG does not have transparency. The 24 bits of data are 8-bits (256 values) for red, green, and blue. In this sense, it is similar to a JPEG, although you do not have the data loss or the color shifts.
An 8-bit PNG has 256 colors in a list. In a way, this is similar to a GIF image. The interesting thing about PNG8, however, is that colors in PNG8 in Fireworks can be semi-transparent. In a GIF, you have the option of selecting only one color to be fully transparent.
Using PNG images on the Web
You will want to export to PNG32, PNG24, or PNG8, as appropriate for your needs. Do not overwrite your Fireworks document! If you use Image Preview when exporting slices, and select a .png format, then that setting will be set for that slice. You can't select .png from the Property Inspector.
If you need to support Internet Explorer 6, you can use PNG24 with no problem. IE6 will render any semi-transparent areas of PNG32 or PNG8 images as fully transparent. To support PNG32 in your Web pages on IE6, you need to add special code. Even then, however, your visitors' browsers can lock up under circumstances that are not fully understood (http://blogs.cozi.com/tech/2008/03/transparent-pngs-can-deadlock-ie6.html). If you know your visitors won't be using IE6, or the content in the transparent PNGs is purely decorative, then maybe that's not an issue for you.
Here's a roundup of techniques for using transparent PNGs at Smashing Magazine:
    http://www.smashingmagazine.com/2008/04/16/getting-creative-with-transparency-in-web-desig n/
    File Size
Choose the best file type for the image you have. No one file type is always better. If you need to support IE6 still, and you can think of how to do your site without transparent PNGs, then the coding will be easier and the cross-browser compatibility will be better. If you use Image Preview (under the File menu item), you can change the quality level for JPEGs. The default level is 80%, which may not be a high enough quality level for a particular image. Higher quality means larger image size, but for photographic elements, a JPEG may still be smaller than a PNG for a given visual quality. It depends on the image content; each image is different.
    Gradients and Banding
Fireworks creates strict numerical interpolations between the two colors you use for your gradients. If the colors are close together, you may not have enough intermediate colors to span the distance you want to cover and you will get bands. Photoshop produces what appear to be smoother gradients, because that application adds subtle noise into the gradient to prevent banding.
    Indexed Palettes
If your image contains more than 256 colors and you select an image format with an indexed palette (GIF or PNG8), you may find that Fireworks produces a palette with fewer than 256 colors. This is a known "feature" of the program and there's no known workaround. If you decide to produce transparent PNG8 images, you need to be aware that this can happen.
And...that's all I can think of that touches on your issues.

  • Loading PNG image file from Applet?

    Hi All,
My applet running on IE6 and it will often loads 100 PNG image files from a webserver.
Size of PNG file is about 60Kb so 100*60=6000 Kb ~ 6M.
In theory, the applet will took 6M of memory to store all 100 files. In practical, it tooks about
6M* 25 = 150M of memory, that make my applet run in out of memory sometimes.
I know the reason, may be the brower/applet convert the PNG file format to BMP file format before showing on the screen.
So the main point here is the applet should not loads all 100 files into the memory,
it should loads only 10 files at the same time, another 90 files should be cached in memory as PNG file format, not BMP image file format to save the memory usage.
Is this solution possible in applet field?
If it is possible how can I implement it?
And please show me better solution if anys.
    Many Thanks.

I know the reason, may be the brower/applet convert the PNG file format to
BMP file format before showing on the screen. This sounds VERY unlikely! Why should the browser do that? And the applet does what you have coded I hope!
Your problem is probably somewhere else. And it has nothing to do with applets I presume. Use a heap analyzer tool to find out what hogs the memory. A thorough code review can't hurt either. If you still thinks it is the images though, then just don't load them all at once then.

  • I have used Image Capture to scan images/documents and then saved them as either PDFs or PNG files.  For some reason, just this past week Image Capture will no longer save the file.  It scans, and the Scan Results window pops up, but it won't save file.

I have used Image Capture to scan images/documents and then saved them as either PDFs or PNG files.  For some reason, just this past week, Image Capture will no longer save the file.  It scans, and the Scan Results window pops up, but it won't save file.
The file name has no special character in it, just letters and no spaces.
I have done this in the past and it has worked, but now it will not.
I have not upgraded any software, that I am aware of.
After scanning, the Image Capture pops up the Scan Results with the file name in the window, but neither the Scan Results nor the Image Capture window responds to inputs.  The Image Capture window is frozen, with only the "Overview" and "Cancel" buttons active (but non-responsive).
Is this a software issue or a scanner hardware issue?  I am using a HP Photosmart C6200 series printer/scanner on a network using a Time Capsule airport.
    Thanks.

    I had the same problem.
Got a 90% fix.  Apparently the Mavericks preferences won't work with Yosemite, so I just deleted the Image Capture preferences.
Unfortunately, the "Scan to" folder seems to be permanently set to the Pictures folder.
    1.  Quit Image Capture
    2.  Go to Finder > Go > Home, which opens up your home folder (named after your user name)
    3.  Open Library > Preferences > com.apple.ImageCapture.plist - Drag this file to the Trash
    4.  Start "Image Capture", click "Details" and change all your settings as you prefer
    5.  Quit and restart "Image Capture".   Notice it remembers all your settings except "Scan to" folder.  It insists on saving to "Pictures".
That's as far as I was successful.  I tried changing the "Scan to" folder to "Desktop", but on launch, Image Capture always sets it back to "Pictures".
    This is what I tried:
    6.  Download and install "Pref Setter" from http://www.nightproductions.net/prefsetter.html
    7.  Quit "Image Capture".  Right-click on "com.apple.ImageCapture.plist" and open with Pref Setter.
    8.  Search for "Pictures", which finds "~/Pictures" (the tilde character at the start means your home directory).
    9.  Double-click on "~/Pictures" and change it to the folder you prefer.  I like "~/Desktop"
    10. Choose File > Save then Quit from Pref Setter.  Note that re-opening the plist file still shows "~/Desktop"
    11. Start up "Image Capture" -- on startup, "Image Capture" sets "Scan to" folder to "Pictures"
    I consider this a bug.

  • Safari 6.0.5 Mac won't "SAVE IMAGE AS" jpegs from web pages

Hi. Trying to figure out what has changed here.
In the past, when I've located a specific graphic on a web page — say, a .png or .jpg file through a Google image search in Safari — I could right click and choose "SAVE IMAGE AS" and download the image to my desktop.
    No more.
Now Safari insists on appending ".webarchive" to the end of the file (for example, "image.jpg.webarchive" or "image.png.webarchive"), but won't let me download it. I tried to "SAVE IMAGE AS" a file called 27.png from a web page, for example, and got this error message:
If I try to remove the ".webarchive" extension, I get this error message:
I used to be able to simply right click an image, select "SAVE IMAGE AS" and save .jpg and .png files to my desktop. It still works that way in Firefox.
I am not looking for workarounds or other ways to do this, as I have spent many years doing it this way and it has become habit; I am trying to find out how I can get the old Safari behavior back. Any ideas on why this behavior changed in Safari and how I can revert?

    @andyBall_uk
Inexplicably, it is now working as it should. I don't get it, but I am not going to question it. I tried to figure it out for an hour, then read your reply, did the duck search you linked to and had no trouble "SAVING PICTURE AS" in .jpg form. It now works on the original images I was trying to download as well. I did not close or open Safari, nor did I restart my computer.
I'm just going to go ahead and say that you fixed whatever was wrong. Nice work!
