  • Can you blur vector shapes in Photoshop without rasterizing?

Is there a way to blur vector shapes in Photoshop, similar to the way Illustrator does, without having to rasterizing the layer? I am working with a very large file that has been scaled from 300dpi to 50 in order to manage it while working. I will sclae back to 300 dpi before sending to printer. Rasterized images will soften as you know which i guess is ok when it comes to a blurred shape, now that i think about it. But for future reference?
    Thanks,
    DM

In the layer of interest make sure the vector mask is selected. Then in the Masks panel adjust the feather slider to an amount that looks right.

  • Recommended tutorials for using paths/vector art in Photoshop?

    Hi all!
Can you recommend any good tutorials for using paths/vector art in Photoshop?
Honestly, I've had a good look for even one - without much success.
I Have lots of experience with paths/vector art in Illustrator, Fireworks and InDesign but I believe you really can do great things with them in Photoshop now for illustration work.
i'm just baffled by it. I can fill and stroke and edit a vector shape in PS - but if I custom DRAW a vector path or shape, things get confusing!
Hoping someone can point me in a helpful direction
    John

    John,
I wouldn't claim to know everything there is to know, but I'm reasonably certain it hasn't changed.
Are the 'shapes' just vector masks with a raster element inside?
Yes. That's an accurate enough description.
And if you apply a colour to a path that you've drawn - does it rasterise?
It doesn't have to rasterize. If you see color, it's pixels.
I was definitely of the impression that a lot more could be done in PS these days that might formerly have been done in ILLUSTRATOR.
The shape/path tools in Photoshop have been enhanced and improved in recent years, but the product of their use still differs from Illustrator's true vector output.

recently it takes ages just to start a new photoshop document (file>new)

  • Vector image in Photoshop?

    Hi Guys
I trying to wrap a text around a circle in this Q1 logo here:
    http://www.ollepersson.com/Q1SurfersParadise/index.html
The major problem is that the “bitmap” type image
distorts and become unreadable. I’ve tried vector images both
in Flash and Illustrator, but there I can’t find a text
    wrapping function.
I’ve also transferred illustrator images to Photoshop,
but they convert automatically to bitmap.
    So:
How can I create and work with vector images in Photoshop?
    Or:
Where in the CS3 programs can I work with text manipulations
    in a vector format?
    Second issue:
It seems like Photoshop only wraps the text 180 degrees? If I
have a longer text the ends of the string will be straight down
    from the 180-degree point?
    THANKS GUYS!!!

As Snake says, Illustrator is an option. Just draw a circle
    around your
logo, click on the 'text to path' tool click on the
    circumference line
of the circle and start typing. To rotate the type to the
    correct
position select the 'empty arrow' tool, click on the center
    of the
circle, chosse the 'rotate' tool in the tool box and spin the
    circle
around until its in the desired location.
Having said that....the text around that logo looks a bit too
    small to
be read anyway as a gif or jpg file. You need to consider if
    it really
adds anything or just looks a mess. Below a certain size gifs
    and jpg
    text becomes practically unreadable.

  • Introduce a "Smooth Vectors" Tool to Photoshop

    Hi,
Designers find the "Smooth Tool" extremely useful in Illustrator, which is very powerful and helps a lot with the designs.
It would be very helpful if Adobe implemented that tool as well to the vectors' abilities in Photoshop.
Currently the only viable solutions in Photoshop are very lacking (like using blur filters to smooth images made by vectors and then recreating the vectors).
    Thanks!
    * (The Photoshop feature request forum is locked for some reason...)

I am just a humble student of Illustrator, but loving the learning process, and constantly bowled over by tools I never dreamt it had.  The ability to simplify a path made over complex by using Image Trace on a busy outline, is super cool.  Trace is just one of those things that surprised the bejazus out of me!
So with that in mind, what could you do with Photoshop?  I guess you could fill the path, rasterise it, select and Smooth the selection, and make the smoothed selection back into a Workpath.  But that sounds — not so much clunky — more lacking finesse, and likely to way over simplify the path.  You’d lose all sharp corners for a start off.
So I just tend to work my way round with the pen tool, and remove superfluous points.  Making a type layer into a shape is a good case in point.  I think a lot of fonts must be hand drawn before making into shapes and then fonts, because you find the most unlikely of line directions, tapers, flattened curves etc.
What I have not learned yet regards Illustrator, is how to swap objects between it and Photoshop.  I’m assuming it can’t be hard?  Heck, it is super easy moving between Premiere Pro, and the other video apps.

  • How do I save a JPEG that includes text as a Vector image in photoshop?

I have a design that includes some text. I need it to be saved as a vector image , photoshop pdf to send off to print. They keep telling me there is an embedded jpeg in the file. how do I fix this?
note: Im using photoshop CC, I do not have access to illustrator, indesign etc...

A pdf can contain both vector and raster data. Any images in your design would be raster. The settings for the pdf determine how to handle the raster data. One way it can compress the images is to store the images as jpg.
If the service is expecting a vector file, then there can not be any raster data in that file.
The only true way to make sure the entire file is vector is to use illustrator.
Just an fyi, even if you import an illustrator file into Photoshop, that data will be raster, because Photoshop rasterizes the data when importing it.

  • How do I get non anti-aliased vector rectangles in Photoshop CS5 using a Wacom Intuos 4?

    Hello,
When using Photoshop CS5 to draw a vector rectangle using the Wacom Intuos 4, the rectangle comes out anti-aliased, but when I draw a rectangle using a mouse on the same machine, there is no anti-aliasing.
What can I do to get sharp, non anti-aliased vector rectangles?
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thank you

c.pfaffenbichler, here is a screenshot of my problem:
The red square was created using a mouse and the blue square was created using my Wacom pen, which you can see the anti-aliasing on.

  • How do you make Vector Text in Photoshop to import to Flash 8?

I'm trying to make some nice text for a logo in photoshop,
but how do i export it as a vector into Flash so it will not
    distort?

Check your settings in Flash before copy / paste from
Illustrator (Edit > Preferences or Ctrl U). Select 32 bits for
Color Depth. Set the size limit to a higher value. Select Best for
    the Gradient quality.
And if copy / paste would not work fine, you could still
export from Illustrator as a SWF.

  • Newbie Importing Vector work from photoshop

A friend of mine asked me to make a design that will be cut out by a laser cutter.
I work faster in Photoshop than Illustrator, so I made the design in photoshop using all vector elements (text and pen tool). From photoshop, I did "save as" and selected .eps and preserve vector data. The eps files look ok when I open them in Illustrator, but the laser cutter store says they are not vector data and they can't use them to cut.
Is there any way to get a usable eps or ai file from my psd files? I would love some help

Just to update the topic. Beth sent me a file.
    You were there Beth
You had it, but just weren't sure what to look for. After releasing the clipping masks there were 3 or 4 of them right around the edge of the artboard. Often when opening a Photoshop-generated PDF these full page masks exist. Because they overlapped each other, after releasing them you only saw the black rectangle. If you had deleted all of those you would have only seen vector paths in Outline Mode and that black rectangle would have been gone.
After that, it was merely a matter of selecting all, fill with black. Then go through the circles you had and make those compound paths by selecting the inner and outer circle, choose Object > Compound Path > Make and finally changing their color.
That's all there was to it.

  • Vector importing into Photoshop

I have a Acrobat file exported from a vectory map.  But when I open it in Photoshop it rasterizes it.  I have Acrobat Pro also.  Is there any file format Photoshop can inport and keep it as a vector?   Is there any way Acrobat  pro can export to such a format?
    Thanks,
    Chas

If you create a new blank Photoshop file and place your Acrobat file into it (File > Place...) It will place as a smart object and can be non-destructively scaled up and down.

  • Converting Vector shapes from Photoshop to Indesign

I am trying to convert a Photoshop document to an Indesign document. I have vector shapes that I want to transfer to the new INDD document. However, I cannot seem to find a workaround that maintains the ability to edit the vector shapes once placed in the INDD document.
Is there a way to transfer the vector graphics from PSD to INDD so they will maintain their editing capabilities? So far, my work around has been to recreate the vector shapes in Illustrator and copy and paste them into the INDD document. However, this is very tedious. Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

    Jambo,
You could try to save the file as pdf if you want to take the whole content as one from AI and open the same in Photoshop.
Or save the file as Photoshop and while making the files make sure you put the content in different layers while creating in Ai and then save as PSD (Photoshop Document)
While save make sure you have write layers option selected when you save as PSD in advance options

  • Tracing a .gif file to convert to a Vector graphic in Photoshop CS5 Extended

I have been on Photoshop CS3 for a couple of years, and now at work they upgraded to CS5 Extended. I am having some small problem finding some things I used to do a lot. I really need to take a bitmap, JPEG, or .gif file and "trace" it and make it into a scalable vector graphic. This used to be easy with Live Trace in CS3. But now on CS5, Live Trace seems to be nowhere to be found.
    What gives?

I think Live trace is in Illustrator, not Photoshop.
    (I still use Freehand.  )
    Edit: Snap!

  • Saving vector data from Photoshop?

    Hi,
I was wondering if anyone could help me out here: I've created a Photoshop document with some stylized text (gradient overlays), and I need for this to be transparent. If I save it as a PSD file it retains the transparency when I add it to InDesign. However, I'd like to keep the text as vector if possible (I have not rasterized it). I know I'd have to use a Photoshop PDF for that, but I can't figure out how to make a PDF transparent. Should I be trying to go through Illustrator somehow? Or stick with the rasterized type? Hope that makes sense.
    Any advice would be appreciated.
    Thanks, Phyllis

I checked that (and set it to transparent), but it still makes it white. I guess it flattens the Photoshop document which makes it no longer transparent? My original document was just on a transparent background in Photoshop. I tried a clipping path just now, but there's no option to save that into the PDF (as far as I can tell). I'm guessing I need to switch to Illustrator if I need transparency on a vector?
    Thanks, Phyllis
