Vehicle maintenance & repair cost mapping

Hi all,
My client owns a lot of vehicles (truck) for transportation. They have to keep an eye at truck maintenance & repairs and they want to capture all the cost truck wise. We suggested them to take PM module but client want this scenario to be mapped in FI or CO module.
Can we use Internal Order to map this scenario in CO module. means we can treat one vehicle is equal to one internal order. but i don't know how settlement would be done and what will be the receiver object for this.

Yes you can use the functionality of internal order for the scenario in question , before that i have a question :
1. How is the expense booked ? is it throuhg service entry sheet ML81N or FB60 .
Why i am asking is then the user has to be very careful while entering the internal order number as you would be having a lot of internal orders .
In case if it is throuhg ML81N then user will have to select the correct internal order or else your solution would be in vain.
Secondly talking of the cost , as it being pertaining to repairs and maintainence cost hence it would be settled to a cost center .
Which cost center that the CO counter part would be in a better positon to address .
Else you can create an assesment cycle for distributing the cost at the month end if you are staying with 1 cost center .

What are the recommendations for a vehicle maintenance app?
I currently use Teal Auto on my Palm, which tracks fuel expense, per mileage cost for fuel, repair costs, reminds me when maintenance is do and has several reporting functions. Looking for something similar...and I would LOVE to import my current data into whatever the app I select is. I can export the TEAL data to a CSV format, but I would really be surprised if any app would be smart enough to be able to parse out this data.

Beginning Balance of Accumulated Repair Cost and Budget Control

Hi All,
My client has two requirements which I have problems working on in SAP.
1. How do we put the beginning balance of accumulated repair cost of each equipment? Example Equipment A had $ 40, 000 worth of repairs prior to the company's use of SAP, and this balance becomes the initial balance during repair cost reporting (thus if the first work order issued for that equipment in the SAP system costs $5,000, accumulated cost in cost analysis shatll be $45, 000 alread) .
2. How do we implement budget control in Plant Maintenance, such that a work order that is over budget cannot be released? or needs to be approved by another more superior user before release?

I suspect the only way to do this without Asset Accounting is to create a bespoke ABAP report. You would also need a customer table to hold the repair cost/equipment data. Alternatively, if you have a cost object per equipment (say cost centre) then you could add this value to the cost centre. Either way I would discuss the issue with you finance team first.
In terms of budgetting; this can be done 3 ways:
- Investment programs (IM)
- Projects and WBS (PS)
- Individual maintenance orders (PM)
You can set threshold parameters which determine if the order can be released..

We are end users like you and have no way of knowing costs in your area. The repair cost will probably be higher for a Retina MBP than for a non-Retina, but you've not told us which of the dozens of MacBook Pro variants you have.
Call an Apple Store and make an appointment. Estimates are usually free.

UDF for monitoring Repair cost of fixed assets

Hi All,
Can you guide me how to populate a UDF at Invoice level with information from Fixed Assets (Add-on) Master? I am trying to monitor repair costs for existing fixed assets. My client wants to see how much repair cost has been incurred against a particular fixed asset.
Any suggestions?

If you can query Fixed Assets Master directly, yon could create UDF just like other UDF under Marketing Documents Title. A FMS then can be used to get the data from the related table.

Hi Mohammed,
As per my understanding Cost mapping is a process of trying identify the different costs incurred and inturn each cost is linked to which cost element.
It is process of identifying the course of expense (cost) and where is it accounted (accumulated for accounting). All the costs are accumulated in teh G/L accounts and these are transported thr a cost element to the Cost Object (Cost Centre) / internal Order/ WBS etc.
This is part of CO-PA and talk to a CO Consultant, he would be able to explain in much better way.

How come the repair cost of a MacBook Pro cost more than a brand new unit?

My nephew bought her Mac Book Pro last June 2012. During the time that floods hit metro manila where she is studying, her Mac Book Pro (13in) happend to have been damped wet by water. Still running but it seems the batter got problem. So she brought her unit to SM North Edsa ( Annex) Mac Center for possible repair. The Mac Center told my nephew that the unit will be brought somewhere in Mandaluyong - Apple Service Center. After a few days she received a message from the Mac Center telling her that the repair cost will be a whooping P88,000.00 almost twice the cost of her unit when she bought it. My sister ( my nephew's mother) was fuming asking me how come the cost of repair is so great, it is better to buy a new one.
Is this really true? I wonder what others may have experienced bringing their unit for repair and finding out that the cost of repair is such... APPLE IS THIS HOW YOU TREAT YOUR CUSTOMERS... IS THIS THE KIND OF AFTER SALES SERVICE THAT WE EXPECT FROM YOU... PLEASE explain it to me.. thanks

And mind you dear APPLE believers, this also happens to my BOSS' Mac Book Air, which was brought also to an Apple Center for repair due to White Screen of Death... The repair center told my boss that the repair would cost him P68,000 pesos... the new Mac Book Air is only P47,990.00. Who in his right mind agree to such a repair cost which costs more than a brand new unit... If this is so... then APPLE is not a good brand after all... Anyone who had the same story?
BTW i tried to revive the unit by following some repair tips from the internet... and I was able to revive it without spending a dime.... I am not a technician... just wondering what kind of SKILLS those technicians at the Apple Repair Centers have in the Philippines...

My phone has been exposed to water. If I do not have any insurance then how much can repair cost or replace the phone?

I have dropped my phone into a sink full of water. Right away, I grabbed the phone and did my best to dry it off. Once dried, my speakers seem to have given up and only a faint noise would occur when a call or text would appear. Lastly, my phone had a hard time gaining any service. All it would say at the top was "Searching..." and will not change. I seem to have given up when a thought ran through my head about turning off the phone and placing it in a bag full of rice. This is where my phone will be sitting for the next 48 hours (as suggested by friends and the lovely Youtube).
If I have to replace my phone, how much would I be paying? If it needs repair and can survive, would the cost be?

They can replace very few parts in it, such as the battery or the sleep/wake button, but for water damage, several components are likely damaged.

Change in FG/SFG valuation system from STD cost MAP

As of now we use Std cost for valuation of FG/SFG and we would like to switchover to MAP for following reasons:
1.We donu2019t see any significant benefit from present costing system. Std costing updation, monthly CO closing, periodical revision of STD cost is not really justifying any benefits compared to the overall efforts put in for above activities.
2.KE 30 reports fail to give correct productwise contribution status as system loads all variance to quantity sold during the PERIOD( e.g If production is 1000 qty, sales 200 qty- , then system will load the variance of entire 1000 qty to sales qty of 200). This is misleading. It is not possible to sale all produced qty in same period in our case.
3.SFGs being produced in one plant trfd to another for FG production. To produce final product X, SFG A is needed, to produce A, SFG B required, to produce B, SFG C required. This is discrete mfg process and and SFG are produced in different plants under same co code. So, we are not able get contribution report of product X as component SFG A it self contains OH/activity cost.( We want to calculate contribution company as a whole i.e Selling price minus material cost( actually bought out materials and not SFG).
We donu2019t want to go for material ledger, considering the manufacturing complexity. Now, we want to change price control of all FG/SFGs fromu201DSu201D to u201CVu201D on cut-off date after making stock NIL
Kindly give us your expert advise on this approach. What are the challenges we will face by doing so.? Is there any company done this type of changes?

1. ML is the right and only solution for your expectations
2. Whether you adopt V or S - CO CLosing is what you cant avoid... You will still need to do the whole CO cycle whether you have V or S
3. Having price control V for In House Mfd materials will damage the inventory valuation forever... Refer Note 81682 - Pr.contr.V for semi-finished and finished, which explains this in detail
What you want is Actual Costing, which can only be delivered by ML
What you want to avoid is monthly CO Closing - Which you really cant avoid
If you still go with V - May be in future you would realise that S was better as suggested by SAP in the above note...
You can take up an enhancement with your ABAP team to develop the kind of reports you want... however, thats not going to be easy... Its gonna take very long to stabilize, even if achieved
