Velco strap on new 170W power adapter too short

I see that the W520 has a larger power supply (170W).  Unfortunately, someone in engineering forgot to lengthen the handy Velcro strap.  It is not long enough to reach around the power supply.  Please have someone look into that.   The strap is not expensive, and fixing the design won't cost much, but I tell you, the feature of having a wraping and straping device on the power adapter is sadly lacking in this new design and really missed.

Not a good idea. I bet its getting hot. The new router draws a lot more power. Use a short extension cord would be a better idea

  • Is light faulty on new 60w power adapter for my Macbook?

Had to order a new 60w power adapter for my Macbook a couple of weeks ago -- bought it from the Apple Store (the new design adapter). When it's plugged in it turns green, then immediately turns red to recharge -- all normal. Once fully recharged the adapter light turns/stays green. But after awhile the adapter light goes out altogether. The icon shows it's charging, but the red (and green) light is off. If I remove the adapter and plug it back in the lights will come on again.
    Is this normal?
    Thanks.

I think I'm experiencing the same problem. My computer charges but the light goes back and forth from being on or off, orange or green. I'm a little disappointed that the light could be burned out, but I guess a little light like that can't last forever. Oh well.
Is it worth pursuing a replacement from Apple since I still have AppleCare? Just wondered.
Anyway, this is really helpful information. Thanks for sharing.

  • New USB Power Adapter includes cable

I just got caught and hope this advice helps others...
The original USB iPod power adapter did NOT include a USB-to-dock cable. I just ordered the NEW USB power adapter and the extra cable. Guess what - it now includes the cable!

Did you find a solution Raf SR?
I have a similar problem. After initial (updating/restoring) issues with my ipod mini which I won't bore you with, I got it working and charging successfully through my PC via the USB cable. Then I bought a USB power adapter for when I am away from my PC. When I connected my ipod to the power adapter it did the brief "do not disconnect" thing then "OK to disconnect" with no attempt to charge. I left it overnight and the following morning it had the battery/triangle/exclamation mark symbol and I had to reset the ipod to get it to work (I did this while still connected to the power adapter).
I borrowed a friend's firewire power adapter and that worked fine. I went back to the store and swapped my usb power adapter for another (firewire power adapter wasn't available) and it did the same as the first one. The ipod still charges fine via the PC and usb cable.
I don't get it! Can anyone help? Thanks

  • TS1713 I need to purchase a new Portable Power Adapter which has a barrel type connection.  The one I have is not working.

I need to purchase a new portable power adapter which has a barrel connector. Can not locate a new power adapter on the web site. Went through the troubleshooting, it is definitely not charging. Any one have info on this?

You can buy from Apple. Or other vendors, such as Amazon.
Check the wattage - it is printed on the side of the charger. Do not buy a lower wattage.
Here's one. Note this is not an endorsement, only an example.

  • New 85W Power Adapter

My puppy recently chewed through my power adapter, and the Apple Store is currently out of stock. I'm assuming that the majority of the $80 cost is due to the brick part, not the wire. Is it possible to simply buy a new wire and attach it to the current adapter instead of buying a whole new one?

hey, check my other thread. Mine just bit the dust too and it appears that the old version is completely MIA until the new ones comes out later next month. I ordered one online but I have no idea if i'll actually get it. Clint, in my other thread, mentioned a place that had them online (LAElectronics or something like that, go check that thread out) and I ordered from J&R Music World (who may or may not actually have them in stock).
Still, pretty shifty of Apple to remove any ability of ordering the adapter from them until the new ones come out (a guy at the Apple Store even told me they had pulled them from the Apple Store shelves, not sure if that is actually true or not). These are essential to the operation of the MBP, it's not like i can run to Best Buy and get a third party adapter.

  • HT3964 BRAND NEW MAGSAFE POWER ADAPTER WON'T CHARGE THE MAC BOOK PRO

I'VE RESET MY MAC BOOK PRO BECAUSE THE POWER ADAPTER STOPPED LIGHTING UP & WORKING AND ITY'S STILL NOT CHARGING THIS IS A BRAND NEW MACBOOKPRO I JUST PURCHASED IN BEST BUY & I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO IT'S NOT CHARGING THE BOOK! DOES ANYONE KNOW WHAT I SHOULD DO?

    Do a SMC Reset,
    https://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3046
A new machine shouldn't need one, but it's it's not charging that's the solution.
All I can figure it sat on a shelf at Best Buy too long, they are closing 50 stores so I hear, so apparantly they haven't been busy like a Apple Store is and product flies off the shelves in pristine charged up like condiiton.

  • Mac Book Pro 17" 85W Power Adapter too Hot to handle while charging/using

    Hello All,
I bought a Mac Book Pro 17". What's up with my Power Adapter when I am using the computer at the same time charging it. The Power Adapter gets so hot that it is too hot to handle...very very hot! Is this normal ?
Any advise is most welcome on the matter.
Mac Book Pro 17"   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

Simple answer, no its not normal
The adapter should get warm, but not hot
The first thing i'd do is try it in a different power socket
If it still heats up like you say regardless of where you plug it in, then its a fault in the adapter
return it to apple or an apple reseller and get another one
i wouldn't use it any more as it could be dangerous to your computer and become a fire hazzard

  • Apple Mini DVI to DVI Adapter - Too short?

I want to connect my iMac 2.8 ghz, 24" screen to an external Philips 190B LCD monitor and use the Extended Desktop function.
The Philips Monitor model is the 190B6CG/00 and it is a single link monitor (Philips tell me it is DVI-D Receptacle Connector 24 pin = single link).
I'm looking at the Apple Mini DVI to DVI adapter here on the Apple Store. It looks like it should plug into my iMac one end then the other end into my Philips. However it looks like it is too short to reach my Philips Monitor. They are not a fantastic distance apart. In fact they are sat side by side - but I somehow can't see the Apple Adapter being long enough (unless it crosses a 3-sphere).
Presumably then, some sort of extension is required between the DVI end of the Apple adapter and the Philips Monitor's DVI input.
Does anyone know what this extension could be and where is may be purchased?
    Regards

Hello to everyone who has replied to my cry for help.
Thank you all. I will apply points to everyone who has responded (so quickly too).

I totally agree. I have been thinking along these lines too. However, searching on the internet whilst researching, I found it difficult to decide what I needed because of the 'photos' supplied. They were ok as such but most didn't show very well the pin outs. Further research into the matter (and one website in particular - i.e. Maplin) made me realise that GENDER was involved. Also, with DVI, females look like males in web photos until you find a photo from the right angle. Same goes for VGA I reckon.
I'm certain most people looking at DVI (and VGA) cable/connectors can't tell the difference when the devices are only viewed from 'above' . In my opinion they need to be viewed more or less end-on to show where they have pins or holes. I mean full end-on, not at an angle where (as I found above) detail as to pin or hole is lost in digital or compression noise. This is what I have experienced in all but one of the web sites I have visited. Another thing, most websites have an 'enlarged version' button which, if selected, shows the same photo exactly the same size. No help whatsoever. But then there's no doubt you must already be well aware of this.

You are correct. The Philips did come with a VGA cable. However I want to connect to my iMac digitally (if I can) using DVI (it looks like a 'female' connector on inspection of the back of the Monitor). I have found it almost impossible to tell the difference from most photos on the web even with my new huge screen iMac. One of the reasons I'm am a little nonplussed I think.
    mrtotes
Good point. If I take a photo of the back of my Philips and take the Apple connector down to Maplin perhaps I can compare and contrast with real specimens. Yo!!
I think I will give that a go.
You have all been very helpful indeed. Opened my eyes somewhat.
I wish a Merry Christmas to all my new Mac friends

  • No standby with new power supply (new MagSave Power Adapter)

    Hi,
i have a Macbook Pro Early 2008 and this was shipped with the "old" MagSave power adaptor, with the white connector on the macbook side. A few mont ago the power adaptor was defect so i bought a new one in the apple store. The new one with the grey connector worked perfect for charging. But if i have connected it, the macbook pro is not able to go into standby mode. If i use the battery it worked very well. If i attached the connector, while the macbook pro is in standby the macbook will wake up and never come to standby again.
Does someone have a solution for this problem. This is a pain, because wy wife will always use the standby mode and close the macbook. After a while the macbook will be very hot.
Thanks for your help and sorry for my bad english, it is not my native language.
    Cheers
    Alex

You could try resetting the SMC:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964?viewlocale=en_US
I've never done it, but the SMC is a piece of firmware that's responsible for (quoted from the article)
"Responding to display lid opening and closing on portable Macs"
    Good luck.
Edit: it's available in German, as well:

  • Where can I find a new Magsafe power adapter for my late 2008 Macbook Pro

my magsafe adapter has failed and it appears apple no longer makes one for my MacBook Pro. Any ideas on where to find one?

Apple Store online and off, any Apple reseller including AASPs.  Do a Google search.

  • Longer Mini DisplayPort to DVI Adapter too short

I just ordered a MacBook Pro 15" retina but the  Mini DisplayPort to DVI Adapter that Apple sells seems to be only like maximum 5" only.
Is there any other reputable brand that sells a longer one (at least 10")?

Not sure if ill get in trouble for this, and im not associated with this seller in any way apart from buying from them.
We bought 3 of these for our office and they work very well.
    ps. they are 6ft long

  • Iphone 5S lightning to 30 pin adapter - too short to keep on the case while using it! :(

I just realized the adapter I need to connect the media station on my car (Audi A8) can only be used by taking the phone off from the case (Iphone 5S case blue color) : why the pin cannot be done a little longer, so to avoid taking the case off every time I need to recharge or to listen to my music ?
    This make no sense...
The cable supplied by Apple is not suiting at its best when the cable from Belkin is pefectly working, I don't need to take the phone off from the case if I need to recharge!

Because that is the way Apple designed it

Try using the Apple lightning to 30 pin adapter (.2m )

  • Power cord too short

Does anyone have a solution for how short and clumsy the power cord is?

Short? Are you using just this part of the power cord:
If you are, you can expand it by removing the two prong part there (it slides out) and putting in the three-prong cable that came with the computer. This thread explains it all.

  • Question about MagSafe Power Adapter

I just got a new magsafe power adapter and wanted to know if leaving it connected to the electricity for too long damage it?
Last question, my battery is dead, should I take it off andrun on the adapter, or just leave the battery on?
A friend of mine told me tht "dead batteries" ruin power adapter?
    Thanks all

I'm afraid you should buy a new battery, Frank.
Running on the power adaptor alone will slow down your MBP. - see http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2332
Running with a seriously defective battery installed, though, may not only place a heavy load on your adaptor but may result in the battery deforming (causing other damage) or worse.
Leaving your adaptor plugged into the power when not being used probably won't hurt it, but it will use more electricity than a fluoro lightbulb.

  • Power Adapter 3000 c200

    Hi,
Grandson in a bit of a pickle (needs this for school) so he turned to me and I don't have an answer, hopefully one of you fine folks can help
He has a Lenovo 3000 c200 and the power adapter has broken and needs to be replaced.
Someone has offered to lend him their adapter from a Lenovo Thinkpad X60
I looked up the adapter on the Lenovo site and it appears to indicate that the adapter is the same for both models and therefore he can use the X60 one on the C200....
Can someone verify of that is correct?
    Many thanks in advance
    Al
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    both of them has same specifications such as 20v, 4,5a, 90 watt, input : 100-240v ~ 1.5a 50/60 hz.
so, he can use it. ( still to make sure, check specifications by yourself, too )
