I received an e-mail this morning, supposedly from BT, asking me to verify my personal details including my password and date of birth. If this was not done it threatened to close my account.
As it was in my spam inbox I was suspicious and phoned BT to ask if this was genuine. Unfortunately the man I spoke to didn't seem able to confirm this but told me to answer it anyway and if it caused any problems they would be able to change my account details. I felt uneasy about doing this, so ignored it and kept my fingers crossed!
Then I looked on here (wish I had done that first before phoning BT) and saw that you had also had this, so just wanted to add my experience and to warn anyone else about this. Also I am not very happy about the response from BT - I wish they'd been more sensible in their answer to my query instead of telling me it would be OK to answer this.
Hi. Welcome to the forums.
Indeed it sounds like you received very poor information. Quite the opposite response should actually be used.
By responding to phishers with email address, password Dob and other items - these can be used for ID fraud and attempt to get into various accounts.
Chances are the link within the received email to enter the details is almost certainly on a hacked website nothing to do with BT.
BT and all proper companies will never ask for userID/password and other personal details by email - for any that do, take the business elsewhere.

  • How can I delete my iCloud account when it is sending a verification email to an address which is no longer accessible?

I recently changed my old iTunes User id from an old, defunct, and inaccessible email address to a new and active one.  To do this I went to iTunes 'Manage your Account'.  At the same time, I changed my password, and this has been working fine.
However, I now need to change my iCloud account, so I read up on it and saw that I needed to delete my old iCloud account and set up a new one with the new iTunes user id.  When I tried to delete the iCloud account, it sent a verification email to the old, defunct email address, and will not allow me to go any further until I confirm the verification.
The problem is of course that I can't access the old email address to confirm the verification that iCloud has sent to it.
    Solutions already tried:
Go into iTunes and 'Manage my account' - this doesn't work as there is no option to manage the iCloud account here, only the iTunes account
Reset the iTunes account to the old email address - this doesn't work, as it still sends a verification to the old email address, and I can't access it to confirm
Contacting Apple by email - tried this but they didn't seem to have a clue what I was talking about!
Does anyone out there have any bright ideas?  All welcome!

Use "Manage your Account" to change the primary email address.

  • HT5622 My new iTunes account keeps telling me that my account is not yet verified.  But when I click on a verification email in the verification email I receive, it says that my new apple id _has_ already been verified.  I'm so confused.

My new iTunes account that I created for work keeps telling me that my email address is not yet verified.  So I send a verification email to my main (another) email address, and then when I get a verification email to that address, it says that my email address is already verified.

You can resend the verification email by going to https://appleid.apple.com, click Manage your Apple ID, sign in, click on Name, ID and Email addresses on the left, then to the right click Resend under your Primary Email Address.

  • I have not got a verification email for my password for the apple id that i created over two weeks ago.  i have tried resetting my password and resending the email but nothing comes though and i can not buy anything on itunes.

i have an apple account, but i created a new one because none of the passwords i use worked on it (i hadnt been on in a while)
so i set up another account with the same email and a new password on January 27.  i have chevcked my emails every day since then and my junk email folder and there is nothing there to help me!
i cant log on to or use my itunes at all because it tells me that i havent verified my password and every time i click resend verification email and nothing comes to my email.
i dont know what to do now,  i have just tried to reset my password online and it said that it worked, but when i go on itunes there is still nothing working...
    any help would be appreciated!

  • Security question verification email is set to a different email than my apple ID

Oddly enough, the Itunes store will not let me purchase new msuic without verifying my account now, even though I made a purchase on this computer about a week ago. It wants me to verify via my billing information and security questions. However, I can only remember one of my secert questions, and when I attempt to reset my security questions via email, it appears that the verification email is sent to the wrong address - not to my apple ID email. The email is sent to a .au email instead of my .com one. Just to be clear, I do not own or have access to the .au email address.
Can someone point me in the right direction to have this problem resolved?
    Thank you for your time.
    Justin.

The reset link will show the rescue email address that you have on your iTunes account - it can't be the same as your primary email address (not alternate email addresses), so it will be different.
You won't be able to change the address until you can answer your questions, you will need to contact Support in your country to get the questions reset.
Contacting Apple about account security : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5699
When they've been reset you can then use the steps on this page to change your rescue email address for potential future use : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5620
Or, if it's available in your country, you could change to 2-step verification : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5570

  • I updated to iOS 8 on iPhone 5s and now iMessage will not verify my email. It has said "Verifyng" since yesterday, but has not sent a verification email. I checked my iCloud settings for that email address and it shows "pending".

I updated to iOS 8 on iPhone 5s and now iMessage will not verify my email address to use to send/ receive messages. It has said "Verifyng" beside it in settings since yesterday, but has not sent a verification email. I have also tried Adding it as a new email address several times, but get the same outcome.  I can still send/ receive texts from my phone number, just not from the email address.
In my iCloud settings under Contact Information for that email address and it shows "pending".  When I select "Resend Verification Email" I get "Cannot Connect to iCloud".

  • How can i change my verification email address

i used a foney email address but i didn't know it would have me verify it so how can i change the verification email address to send to a active email address. And i tried making a yahoo account for the foney email i used but yahoo says that email is not valid so any other ideas. please reply back really need help

You should be able to log into the account via the 'manage your apple id' button on http://appleid.apple.com and put a proper primary email address on the account ; or you can do it by logging into the account via the Store > View Account menu option on your computer's iTunes.

  • I cannot verify my icloud account because I have no verification email. Any ideas Apple customers - as Apple can't be bothered to assist?

I have an Apple 2 with IOS 6.
Because I have this I have Apple icloud.  I have an Apple ID, I have an Apple password.  They work.  But I can't verify my Apple icloud account because the software has not sent me a verification email!  I only have one email account and one Apple ID.  There is NOT (contrary to Apple trouble shooting pages) any way to get this email sent again!
So I can't get the icloud verified.
It seems incredible that I can get no help from the manufacturer or retailer here and instead have to resort to asking members of the same neglected bunch of Apple 'customers' for help but if any of you can I'd appreciate it. In the meantime, note to self 'NEVER buy Apple again. They treat their customers with disdane.

i just went thru this hassle in the past hour..luckily that's all it took me to get it set eventually. i read some of the comments here to get ideas (i even considered creating a new account, as "comcast" had suggested). honestly, i'm not even sure what i did exactly to make it work. i logged in to my itunes account and i was notified that i had to re-confirm my apple ID. it was then showing in the "email" field and i had to re-typed it in the "apple ID" field. then i put this info in my iphone (setting -> emails), i clicked again "resend verification" and this time it showed "verification was sent to '[email protected]'" (on my previous attempts, it showed "verification was sent to [.]" or something. not sure if u came accross it). so it's thru itunes. try to sign out and in, then go to your account setting there and make sure the email/apple ID are updated. by the way, i never really got the actual verification email. as soon as it showed the message - the app was automatically enabled on my iphone.
    hope this helps!

I've tried looking at my own itunes account but I cannot seem to find the allowance account, it says I currently have zero allowance accounts.
All I want to do is change the assigned email address.

Who is the email provider? Not all accounts can be set up as POP3

The idea to jumpstart by change was not the smartest one, but gives you an opportunity to use that "temporary" account as permanent. You do not have a choice cause obviously despite you thinking that old account is no more -it does exist on Apple servers. And if you are unwilling to share your [email protected] with friend, just create one extra [email protected] for your friend. One suggestion - do not use gmail.

  • I am trying to reset my password, but Apple is not sending me the Verification email... what can I do?

I reset my password for my Apple ID, but now it says I need to confirm the change. It said it sent me a verification email, and I need to follow the link to do so. However, I am not getting the verification email at all. I have resent it multiple times, but to no avail. What can I do to fix this?

It's not in the Junk Folder... Thank you though.

  • HT1349 My apple ID was keyed incorrectly on start up of new iPad. So the email address is wrong and I cannot verify as I do not get the verification emails? Help anyone?

Apple Id was set incorrectly, so the verification emails do not come through. Now my new iPad is locked in to an apple id that I cannot verify and so I cannot use download any apps that I need. Does anyone have solutions?

Apple Id was set incorrectly, ...
Do you know the Apple ID and password you used to purchase the apps you need? It should be a simple matter of going to Settings > Store, tap the Apple ID that appears then Sign Out.
Sign in with the correct Apple ID and you should be all set.
