Verification of steps to convert Single Node to RAC

Hi Forum
I have a single node Oracle E-Biz 12.1.3 Installation.
We plan to convert this to a dual node RAC install and I wanted to run by the steps to perform this AND clone over the current production system to the new RAC system
(note this will not be using ASM - but will be based on NetApp NFS)
1. Install GRID 11.2.0.3
- installed acorss two nodes, Binaries can be shared
- voting disks / cluster rigistry MUST be shared
2. Install Database Software for RAC
- Binaries cannot be shared and must be installed on each node independently
3. Configure the GRID for database (database / listeners)
4. Clone over the stand alone system (clone database as RAC)
I will be using SCAN - and therefore would expect all the web services / concurrent manager nodes to point to the SCAN hostname as opposed to individual host names,
Are there any decent technical notes out there that will help please?
Is there any HUGE miss I have made here
Thanks in anticipation

Hi,
I belive googling "single node to RAC" should give you a lot of articles and you can select any article based on your source database version and new version (11.2).
Since it is EBS database, probabl posting question on EBS forums will give you answer faster because you will find a lot of apps DBAs who would already have done this.

  • Convert single instance in Rac

Hello experts, I have already configured a cluster database between two nodes with a RAC database named Cars. Also I have a single instance database named Persons in the first of the nodes. Now I need convert this single instance(Persons) in a Rac database, that is I want to have two RAC database(Cars and the new Persons).
Thank you very much in advance.

Oracle provides following methods to convert a single instance database to RAC:
    Grid Control
    DBCA
    Manual
    RCONFIG(from 10gR2)
    refer this link:
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/pub/articles/chan_sing2rac_install.html(manual method)

for converting your filesystem to asm use RMAN:
refer: for converting the non-asm files to asm files using the steps as shown in the link

  • Migration from Single Node to RAC Node

    Hi,
We are planning to migrate the Database from Single-Node to RAC Node. Are there any checklist list to be considered regarding Performance, System and Database ( or any other topic), before migrating to RAC.
    Thanks

If it is already the same version, you will need to focus any "single-threadedness" of the application like sequences that are mandatory sequential, "semaphore-style" locking etc...
My experience is that going RAC and in particular to ASM can give a performance boost. If it is the same version (11gR2 for example) then any statistics-related performance issues will still be there.

  • Convert Single İnstance To RAC

    Hii All
    I making some test in order to convert single instance to RAC.In the scenario;
    1.Crs Installed on machine.Asm disks created (Node1)
2.Oracle database software installed with rac option on Node1 .but only with binaries no database has been created.
3.An auixilary instance created in Node1.
4.On Standalone machine Database copied via Rman Clone Active database feature to node1 in asm
5.Cloned database is working correctly on node1 as Standalone
6.Run dbca on Node1 and select single instance, select create template from running database and template saved
7.Run dbca again on Node1.Select create rac enabled database, template selected as saved before.
Database created successfuly in crs environment but dbca creates fresh database no data has been preserved
This convert way is possible ? Where am I wrong ?Why dbca erase all data and create new database ?
Which do you advise to me to perfom convert scenario ?
Crs and Oracle 11gR2 on Centos.
    Best Regards

    1) I have created single node standard database called mydb in /u01/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/db_1 home (hostname linux1)
    2) installed crs and asm on linux1 and linux2 and shared storag on ASM(which external HD running ieee1294 cards and ports) . no database is created on linux1 or linux2
    3) I want to convert mydb to RAC DATABASE called mydb1 instance on linux1 and mydb2 on linux2 machine respectively.
    4) copied and modifed xml as you see above called ConvertTomydb.xml to $ORACLE_HOME/bin directory
    5) when I run
    $rconfig ConvertTomydb.xml from $ORACLE_HOME/bin directory , i get the following error

  • Convert 11.1.0.7 EBS 12.1.3 single node to RAC with ASM on 11.2.0.3 cluster

    Hi
I am trying to convert a single node 11.1.0.7 database with EBS 12.1.3 version from single to 2-node RAC ASM on Oracle clusterware 11.2.0.3 on AIX 6.1 - 64 bit
I am following Oracle metalink document note id 466649.1 . My 11.2.0.3 clusterware is already setup correctly and working fine as per document E24614-03.
However I am currently stuck in section 3.3:Configure TNS listener (Doc id : 466649.1) . The netca is unable to start the listener and failing with error as below.
However when I start the same locally from lsnrctl command listener starts.

  • Convert single node Multi Node

We have one requirement, our single node is running on sun server ( 11.5.10.2 with 9.2.0.7)
we want to convert the single node to 2 node, like this
    Node 1 = DB + CM + ADMIN
    Node 2 = FORMS, WEB
I want to follow the following procedure
    (a) Copy the Total Application Tier File system from single node to Node 2
    (b) Run the config clone on Node 1 and specify to run the services CM and ADMIN only on this node
    (c) Run the config clone on Node 2 and specify to run Forms, web services only on this node 2
    is the above procedure correct?

  • Moving RAC/ASM to single-node non-rac SET NEWNAME not working

    Good morning,
I'm trying to restore a rac/asm database to a non-rac environment to simulate disaster recovery under worst-case circumstances.
Here is as faras I have been able to get
    1) Restored pfile
    2) modified pfile to remove references to RAC settings (note, did not set db_file_create_dest, db_file_name_convert, etc)
    3) Restored controlfile successfully
    4) Mounted database
At this time I run the following rman script which covers all temp and datafiles (there's some skipped numbers where datafiles have been removed previously)
    run {
    set until time "to_date('2009/11/29 03:00:00','YYYY/MM/DD HH24:MI:SS')";
    set newname for tempfile 1 to '/mnt/data/oradata/pmi/temp_1.dbf';

I noticed that it's trying to create the datafile. Shouldn't it be giving me a "Restoring datafiles from backup piece" clause? Also it appears to be trying to recreate the datafiles in their old location. Any thoughts on how to get around this.
Using the db_file_name_convert does allow me to restore files to the filesystem, but they use names such as "omf_*" and I'm not sure if it's converting the files properly from ASM format.
    Thanks!

    Hi,
I assume your problem is either in your pfile ( but you indicate you have removed all RAC settings), or in your control file.
I would recommend to remove the control files and create them later as soon as the datafiles have been restored, using the commands:
    STARTUP NOMOUNT
CREATE CONTROLFILE REUSE DATABASE "OMST01" NORESETLOGS FORCE LOGGING NOARCHIVELOG
-- SET STANDBY TO MAXIMIZE PERFORMANCE
    MAXLOGFILES 100
    MAXLOGMEMBERS 2
    MAXDATAFILES 1024
    MAXINSTANCES 8
    MAXLOGHISTORY 10210
    LOGFILE
    < your logfiles >
    DATAFILE
    < your datafiles >
CHARACTER SET <your character set>;So the steps are
    Startup nomount with the pfile
    Restore the datafiles using rman
    Shutdown the database
Use above script to create the control files
It is possible you need to use the RESETLOGS option instead of the NORESETLOGS

  • Single node to RAC migration

    Hello friends ,
I am using RAC 11g(11.1.0.7)I having below configurations
    NODE1
    Clusterware oracle home /u01/Oracle_home1
    ASM oracle home /u02/Oracle_home2
    RAC oracle home /u03/Oracle_home3
    NODE2
    Clusterware oracle home /u01/Oracle_home1
    ASM oracle home /u02/Oracle_home2
    RAC oracle home /u03/Oracle_home3
Now I have one another database(NON RACed & NON ASM) with SID TEST which on local disk with flat file system on NODE1 only i.e /p01/Oracle_home4
My question is using RMAN can I restore rman backup piece or active database duplication of this local database to RAC system defined above.
    Regards
    Saransh Soni

Clone the single instance database from FileSystem to ASM using RMAN. At this point it is still single instance.
Unfortunately, the documentation convers FileSystem to ASM on the same server.
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B28359_01/backup.111/b28270/rcmasmmi.htm#CHDCDCFJ
So, see the DUPLICATION Example "Example 23-6 Duplicating from a File System to ASM (Active)"
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B28359_01/backup.111/b28270/rcmdupdb.htm#BGBEHADD
    Then convert to RAC

    Hello,s
First of all, check the status of all resources by using crs_stat -t
Check if your VIP resource is indeed up and running on the node where you want to start the listener. As listener is depending upon this VIP address, it is needed to be up on the node where listener is configured. If this is the case then relocate the vip back to the system by using either of the following commands
    1. crs_relocate <vip_resource_name>
    OR
    2. srvctl start nodeapps -n <hostname>
listener should be automatically up once crs relocates back the vip to the system.
If vip is already running fine on the system then check for your listener configuration as you check in normal systems.

  • Concurrent program required on a single node with RAC connfiguration

    Hai all,
RAC with 11.5.10.2 on Linux . 2 DB server with 2 app server with concurrent managers
    running on only one node..
We have requirement to run a concurrent program and its child process to run on only one
node of the RAC DB. Since this is not possible in this version and possible with 12.1 as per the note
Method Of Always Running A Specific Concurrent Program On One Particular Node [ID 1070621.1] .
We created a concurrent manager and under Specialization rules, we added all the program that
we required. now in the concurrent manager -define form - under the primary and secondary node
    - do I have to set the node as one of the database server (or) one of the apps server.

Please advise. You only need to set the name of the node where the CM is running (under "Primary Node").
If you have PCP implemented, then you can type the name of each node where CM is running (CM node1 and CM node2).
