Verify Disc on OSX Mavericks

It's simple. Disc Utility just doesn't work. Verify Disc, Repair Disc, Verify Permissions & Repair Permissions not work on Mavericks. I've upgrade from Lion to Mavericks, and i think is a tremendous upgrade, a great OSX, but this little things make me feel strange about it. Without Disc Utility, i can't know if my Hard Disc is working fine. There's another bugs going on, but i think Apple will take care of it, right? (Some app are left behind the menu bar, and it is impossible to get them out of there, unless I close them and reopen).

I have run into the same problem with Disk Utility in Mavericks running on 2 machines (MacBook Air, and Mac Pro).
Disk Utility works fine from the Recovery Partition... but if you run Disk Utility on the internal drive to "Verify Disk", the process will stop before completion, and the button will change from "Stop Verify" back to "Verify Disk" again.
I have made sure that both drives were problem-free using Disk Utility from the Recovery Partition, but each time I run Disk Utiltiy on the internal drive to verify, it never completes.

  • My Keynote does not work on my MacBook Pro with OsX Mavericks. It opens though, but then is stuck, menu does not react. What to do?

I have Keynote 6.1 and run it on a MacBookPro with OsX Mavericks. I can start Keynote, but I cant access the menu, it is stuck. What to do?

Try this repair for Keynote 6.2,  ensure you complete all the tasks and in the order shown:
1  delete all the iWork applications if you have them, not just Keynote, using Appcleaner from Mac Update, its a freeware application
2  restart the Mac;   Apple menu > restart
3  immediately after the start chime,  press the shift key until you see the Apple symbol.
let it fully boot up,  it will take longer as the OS is repairing the drive
4  when fully booted, go to Applications > Utilities > Disc Utility; click on the boot drive  then First Aid tab and      click  repair disc permissions
5  when complete, restart the Mac normally
6  install Keynote from the Mac App Store, it will be updated to the latest verion which is 6.2
let us know if this helped.

After upgrade to OSX Mavericks my 2009 MBP keeps crashing due to kernel panic (happens every 20 minutes or so). Please help me with this, it's getting very frustrating. Have tried disk utility, there were errors (file system was corrupted), the disk utility managed to repair the disk but the crashes continue.

Hi, thanks for the reply. I deleted some of the old stuff that showed up on the report (have removed virtual box long ago but some residual files were apparently left). It didn't help though. Will remove forticlient too as a test.

  • Osx mavericks shutdowns by itself

Running latest OSX Mavericks 10.9.1 on MBP Retina, 15-inch, Late 2013.
Few days ago computer started to complete shutdown itself when I close lid for few hours. When I close it for some minutes, it works just fine (like it was before). When I keep it closed overnight or for 5+ hours, computer shutdowns. I see blank login and all programs are closed. And windows of opened programs are not opened (as when I press Reboot), only Finder.

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you boot, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • MacMini saying HDD is damaged during OSX Mavericks install

Ok I finally started up my MacMini and downloaded the OSX Mavericks upgrade. Problem is now that it's restarting to upgrade and it's saying my HDD is damaged and can't be repaired. Says to resart, delete everything and retry. Except now it's stuck in a restart cycle and keeps trying to install Mavericks but of course it has the same error.
Now since it's a MacMini I don't have a wired keyboard, just bluetooth keyboard and mouse.
I can't figure out now what to do short of buying a keyboard which being in SE Asia it's not cheap. I may be able to pick up a generic wired kayboard but not sure how it would work with a Mac.
I searched and seems this is a problem. Not sure if it's because of Mavericks or my HDD is really damaged.

I'm not sure a wireless keyboard will work in the Recovery Volume.
Boot to the Recovery Volume (command - R on a restart or hold down the option key during a restart and select Recovery Volume). Run Disk Utility Verify/Repair and Repair Permissions. Then reinstall the OS which should be Mountain Lion if Mavericks hasn't installed.

  • HT6114 I cannot log in to my AOL after installing OSX Mavericks

Why can I cannot log into to my AOL account after installing OSX Mavericks?

Try these in order testing your system after each to see if it's back to normal:
    1. a. Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM
        b. Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
    2. Restart the computer in Safe Mode, then restart again, normally. If this doesn't help, then:
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the
COMMAND and R keys until the Utilities menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the
computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager
screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    3. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
Reinstall the 10.9.2 update: OS X Mavericks 10.9.2 Update (Combo).
    4. Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks: Reboot from the Recovery HD. Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks from the Utilities menu, and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
Reinstall the 10.9.2 update: OS X Mavericks 10.9.2 Update (Combo).

  • After downloading OSX Mavericks, my AOL mailbox has disappeared and all the AOL messages get dumped into the inbox along with the gmail messages. How can I get the AOL mailbox back?

After downloading OSX Mavericks, my AOL mailbox has disappeared and all AOL messages have been lumped in the inbox along with my gmail messages. What do I have to do to get my AOL mailbox back?

Linking AOL and gmail?  I don't know what that means.  But if it means what I think it does - that you have the AOL and gmail servers chatting directly with each other through some configuration, I'd definitely disable that.
In general, the messages either aren't deleted, or aren't correctly deleted, or there's a protocol or network error, or some sort of a mail server error.
First diagnostic is a mailbox repair.  Mail.app > Mailbox > Rebuild
Then verify that the credentials are correct and the connection is reliable:
    Mail.app > Window > Connection Doctor
And yes, if you have gmail and AOL chatting directly with each other, undo that.

  • Login issues from sleep mode after OSX maverick update

After upgrading to OSX Maverick on my 13" MacBook Pro, I am having issues with logging in after it being in sleep mode. Everytime I close the screen to go somewhere and open it back up to continue what I was working on I type my password in (I am the only user, no other user accounts) it acts like the password is wrong and the only way to get logged in is to hold the power button down to shut the computer off then power it back up, then I can login.

  • Verify Disk stops in Mavericks

I installed Mavericks on my 15" MBP, and it seemed to go fine (too soon to tell, really).  In Disk Utility, I ran Verify Disk for the whole disk and it checked out OK.  But when I tried it on my single partition (as I usually do), it stopped spontaneously.  Repair Permissions worked, but Verify stopped three times:  twice after "Checking Volume Information" and once after "Checking Extended Attributes File".  No error message; it just stopped.
Should I be concerned about this?

Same here with 10.9.4. Sometimes I see the green OK on the 3rd or 4th attempt, or and after relaunching Disk Utility and or my MacBook Pro.
    I tried this:
Battle ArenaApr 10, 2014 10:04 PM Re: Verify Disk stops in Mavericks
Re: Verify Disk stops in Mavericksin response to BobFromIN
    Hello.
    I'm using Mavricks 10.9.2
    Try this:
    Open "Disk Utility"
Click the "Log" button (top right hand of window)
    Click back to "DIsk Utility"
Select start up partition eg. "Macintosh HD"
    Click "Verify"
I got the green text confirmation,
Also, the log should mention confirmation as well.
Looks like this is a simple bug.
and it seemed to work. But I agree with this:
Still not fixed in 10.9.4. Kind of annoying.
Hey, seeing the Green OK is an Extra Piece of Mind. Not seeing Red Errors is nice, but seeing Green OK is even nicer:)!
Let's hope that 10.9.5 or whatever other OS Update will fix this, assuming that Apple already know about this!
Here is a Suggestion I have for Apple:
If there is an Error with Macintosh HD Internal Startup Disk, it'd be great if there was a Button in Disk Utility that we could click on and it would do the Following:
    Restart Mac into Recovery Partition
    Open Disk Utility
Select that Macintosh HD Internal Startup Disk
    Offer to Repair it
Why do I think of that Button? Because sometimes, particularly when it's not a very experienced user, who becomes nervous when they see Error(s) in Red, they might forget about
Just hold down Command-R during startup and OS X
as described here https://www.apple.com/osx/recovery/ and, if there is no Internet Access at that time, it might be harder for them to look this topic up.
But then, maybe such Suggestion is too hard to do? Just a thought on my part!
Either way, let's hope that this issue "Verify Disk stops in Mavericks" is fixed soon!  Thanks in advance for your help, Apple!

  • Downloading osx Mavericks

When I try to download osx mavericks it gives me an error message. It says "We cannot complete your purchase, The product distribution file could not be verified. It may be damaged or was not signed." Could anyone tell me how to fix this?

For those like me who can't see the progress of the download happening on that little bar that comes with launchpad, or on the icon that opens up in the dock, here is your solution:
Open activity monitor, go to the network section, and you can see under Data recieve/sec, how fast you're downloading Mavericks. For me the speeds were 500kb/s on average and reached peaks of 1MB/s. It took about 5hrs for me (last week).
I'm downloading it for another computer this week the download is going by much faster. It's a function of your internet connection as well as the number of people trying to download the software.

  • I can't see my Raid (Drobo) on my desktop with OSX Mavericks

    Hello,
I just updated to OSX Mavericks. I now have a problem with my RAID array. It doesn't mount on the desktop. I tried updating software, contacting Drobo(out of warranty) verifying  and repairing the disk, physically "mounting the disk" in Disk First Aid. I get nothing. In Drobo's program, the disk is functional and healthy. It just won't mount. I didn't have this problem before I installed Mavericks. Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance,
    Al Harding

    found this
With the help of Drobo's technical support who pointed me to this MacRumors thread, I've resolved the issue. It turned out that somehow my drive got set to "invisible", which is a filesystem attribute. I don't think this setting is settable via the Finder, so I'm not sure how it got set like that.
To confirm the issue, I had to install Xcode and then install the command line tools, then run this Terminal command:
    GetFileInfo /Volumes/Drobo/
where /Volumes/Drobo/ is the path to the volume in question. This command returns all the attributes set for that volume. If the list of attributes includes a V (capital V), it means that the volume is invisible.
    To fix it:
    SetFile -a v /Volumes/Drobo/
with a lowercase v, to remove the invisible attribute.
After a reboot, everything was back to normal.
Note: depending on the drive and your permissions, it's possible you will need to run these commands with sudo, although I didn't.

Since I downloaded OSX mavericks, my Mac Mini doesn't wake from sleep. I can see notifications top right of screen and the mouse pointer, so the screen is on and working. Only way to get it going is to hold down the power button to power off and then resatrt. Not very convenient!

  • Will idvd work w/ osx mavericks?

will idvd work w/ osx mavericks?

iDVD 7 works very well with iMovie 6 HD.  You can get iDVD 7 from an iLife 09 disk (both include iDVD 7) and then updating it to the 7.1.2 from the Apple - Support - Downloads website.
You can get a copy of the iLife 09 disk from a 3rd party retailer like Amazon.com or eBay.com.  When you go to install be sure to do a custom install and install only iDVD and it's resources.
iLife 09 includes all of the themes from previous iDVD versions, 1 thru 7.  the iLIfe 11 disk does not. It only include themes from iDVD 5 thru 7.
Here's my full directions for obtaining iDVD 7:
If iDVD was not preinstalled on your Mac you'll have to obtain it by purchasing a copy of the iLife 09 disk from a 3rd party retailier like Amazon.com: ilife 09: Software or eBay.com.  Why, because iDVD (and iWeb) was discontinued by Apple over a year ago.
Why iLife 09 instead of 11?
If you have to purchase an iLife disc in order to obtain the iDVD application remember that the iLife 11 disc only provides  themes from iDVD 5-7.  The Software Update no longer installs the earlier themes when starting from the iLIfe 11 disk nor do any of the iDVD 7 updaters available from the Apple Downloads website contain them.
Currently the only sure fire way to get all themes is to start with the iLife 09 disc:
This shows the iDVD contents in the iLife 09 disc via Pacifist:
You then can upgrade from iDVD 7.0.3 to iDVD 7.1.2 via the updaters at the Apple Downloads webpage.
Export the slideshow out of iPhoto as a QT movie file via the Export button in the lower toolbar.  Select Size = Medium or Large.
Open iDVD, select a theme and drag the exported QT movie file into the open iDVD window being careful to avoid any drop zones.
Follow this workflow to help assure the best qualty video DVD:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image  menu option. This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image, launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding is good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.
