Verifying disk came clean, but still unable to start up.
So, for the past few weeks I have had the problem of the endless spinning wheel while starting up my macbook pro. I have tried booting it up in safe mode, single-user mode, fsck, everything. So today I got the installation DVDs and I ran the disk utility verification and repair. It came up clean, and so did the Apple Hardware Test. I'm dumbfounded, what should I do?

Zap the PRAM and Reset the SMC; then, try again. If no go, reinstall the OS.

My guess is the 30-day trial period has expired but you didn't remove the trial before installing the full version. The files to delete are the iWork ’09 folder from the main HD > Applications; the iWork ’09 folder in HD > Library > Application Support & the individual iWork application plist files found in HD > Users > (your account) > Library > Preferences for each user.
Yvan Koenig has written an AppleScript that removes the files. You can find it on his iDisk in For_iWork > iWork '09 > uninstall iWork '09.zip. -
I have authorised the computer as the pin point message said, but still unable to transfer the 3 apps which were free. Now unable to play them on Ipod touch.

Phone is only a few months old and was working fine last night - it ran out of battery but on being charged up this morning it was effectively locked. I received an error message that I could not make or receive calls and I had to restore via itunes. I have done so and lost loads of apps etc (my fault for not backing up) but still unable to make or receive calls. Anyone had anything similar and can advise who I should contact or what I can do.

I get dialogue box with "0% extraction" then nothing also cannot get Opera to install. The installation stalls at the same point of extracting the download. The only browser to work is IE8. I can not update my installed apps from the App Store Update page. I can individually update from the App Store Purchased page. I tried a soft reset but still unable. Any suggestions?
You are doing all that you cn do right now other than to update the apps in iTunes on your computer and sync them to the iPad.
There has been a problem with the App Store updates tab for a few days now and we are all waiting for Apple to fix it.
Look at all of the discussions on the iPad forum that are talking about this right now. -

If you are making use of a "subscription" desktop application the subscription has to be "active" (paid up).
Once your updated info is processed you'll be able to use the subscription application.
As Bernd wrote - Adobe Reader is free (download, install, use).

Although it keeps actively finding problems with the disk, the progress bar hasn't changed for more than a half an hour, and it still says it's going to take an hour and 35 minutes. I'm starting to worry it will never be done! My laptop, a Macbook Pro, is pretty old - about five years, and I don't know if the fact that I've never run a verify disk permissions before has anything to do with it.
The only non-greyed out option is to currently 'stop permission verify'.Just let it run, it probably won't take that long. Also you may benefit from reading Disk Utility's Repair Disk Permissions messages that you can safely ignore.
