Verifying ipod

Hi
I am running iTunes 10.6 on a PC with a Windows 7 OS.
Until this weekend my iPod Classic (160G) contianing about 22,000 songs worked perfectly. Having added just two album's worth of songs to iTunes my iPod will no longer sync, with the message "Verifying iPod" continually displayed. This remains for around an hour at which point I get the message "iTunes has stopped working".
I have tried a repair of iTunes, a re-install of iTunes a reset of the iPod all to no avail... and at the same time my daughters' iPhone continues to sync perfectly...
I have seen a number of discussions elsewhere, but not seen a definitive reply....
Any help?
Much appreciated.... thanks!

I eventually resorted to a full restore before removing iTunes and reinstalling version 6 (I think). This worked, although you need to reimport your Library as earlier versions of iTunes cannot read later libraries. It worked but took best part of a weekend. The problem is people posting on here make it sound simple... and it wasnt! If you do then all your playlists will be gone.
Like you my tunes are on an external drive.
However, my daughter then updated to the latest version of iTunes and it is still working.
I have however noticed some things. I have two iPods... if I fill the older one up it gets stuck on verifying... if I only copy selected playlists I have no problem whatsover. My newer iPod will stick on verifying after undertaking sync of the old one (and always displays the "scan and fix message", to which I press "continue without scanning". However it does sync... eventually. Having read up on this, it seems it is an issue which starts to occur as the iPod gets older.
There appears to be no generic fix for this and Apple are being very quiet.

  • Ipod Classic Stuck In 'Verifying Ipod' Mode When Connecting To iTunes

I currently own an iPod Classic 160GB and an iPod 5th Gen 30GB. Both of them were working perfectly and synchronizing with iTunes up until i upgraded my OS system to Windows 7 from XP. I am also running iTunes 9.2
Now when i try and synch them, both say 'Verifying iPod' and then iTunes freezes after 5 minutes and i have to disconnect them and start all over again. I have not been able to update either of them with music for over 2 months.
Some blogs say to try and move you .xml file out of your library, some say change the .itl file to .itl.old and some say try changing back to a previous version of iTunes. However none of these have worked for me.
I have over 110GB of music on my computer and i'm trying to avoid wiping iTunes off my computer altogether and having to reload it all back on. I've had to do this once before and it took about 3 months as i had to double click on every single track befor itunes would load it - and thats a lot of songs to click ! Unless of course somebody out there knows a quick way of wiping iTunes off my hard drive altogether and starting all over again.......................??
Has anybody had the same problem or anyone got any solutions ??

My iPod Classic is also sticking in verify then iTunes freezes. This only happened after iTunes was updated to 9.2. According to CCleaner's registry check, two problems appear - both are missing TypeLib References; the IUserHelper and the IiPodManagerUI. I can only assume that the latest iTunes is causing the trouble because of these missing files. This led to me completely reinstalling iTunes yesterday, but all that achieved was to empty my iPod and leave me library-less. The only way around it I can see is to wait for a new iTunes update. A real pain.

  • Ipod stuck "Verifying iPod" when syncing to iTunes

I have recently purchased an iPod touch 64gb. After a few days of using it and successfully syncing it more than 6 times it froze on "Verifying Ipod" I have search everywhere and found several different forums about this issue and most of them offer the same solution, update the iTunes and iPod software, or did not posted the ultimate fix that got them going. I am now running the latest versions on both which resolved the issue. After doing that and successfully syncing a couple of times I am having the same issue again. Below are some factors that may help in identifying the issue.
**iTunes is authorized with the same ID as the iPod
**All applications that are currently on the iPod were downloaded directly to the ipod. None of them are sync'din itunes yet
**the applications are either free or free from the http://www.freeappaday.com/ site
    **the iPod is NOT jailbroken
**all software and firmware is up-to-date
**the only difference to the iPod since the last successful sync was all the applications that I installed
Hope this is enough to work from. While I could "restore" the ipod I would lose all my apps that are not sync'd. Additionally the games that I download from http://www.freeappaday.com/ are only offered free for a particular day so I would have to pay for them now. Since this has happened to me twice in 3 weeks I am thinking I am either doing something wrong or there is something wrong.
Again there a several different threads out there about this issue, but none of them have a solution aside from update and/or restore.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Not sure what changed, but I have not had the issue for the last 5 syncs. I did perform some unusual steps to get to where I am. Again I am not sure what made the difference, but below are the steps that I performed for anyone else's reference.
    1. Connected iPod, it again froze on Verifying Ipod and Syncing Ipod.
+Note: These messages were displayed on the information display on iTunes. You would have to click the 'Play' icon on the left side of the message to toggle to each message.+
    2. I toggled to the Sync message and click on the 'X' icon on the right side of the message. This stopped all syncing/verifying.
    3. I clicked the 'Sync' button on the bottom right of the iPod screen in iTunes. This manually launches sync. From some reason I do not get the Verifying iPod message. Not sure this is because it is not performing this function. I am going to guess that is correct as I can successfully sync the iPod at this point.
    4. I had to perform this work around three more times during my testing. Since then I have downloaded more free apps and I have not had an issue since.
If I were to take a guess as to what might have caused the issue, maybe downloading several apps (10+) on the iPod and then trying to sync it. Unsure. If I have additional information I will definately update this post.

  • Stuck Verifying Ipod, won't sync

When I connect my 3rd generation Ipod touch to my macbook pro, 9 times out of 10 it gets stuck on "verifying ipod" and does not progress to sync the ipod. about half the time this happens, Itunes stops responding and crashes out. I know this is an unanswered thread on the "syncing your ipod touch to a PC" forum, but I didn't see it here. I find it kind of ridiculous that my various apple products can't interact correctly with each other.

I actually finally got mine to work again and the secret was getting to a point where I could do a restore. My music library is fairly large, so I ended up using our laptop which had less music. I deleted all the music, so it wouldn't have to verify the library, etc. Plugged in the iPod and let it sit until it finally was recognized; took about half an hour. Did a restore and haven't had a problem since [yesterday]. But this seemed to work.

  • Stuck on verifying iPod

When I connext my iPod touch 64GB to my pc, it takes forever to get past the verifying iPod screen, then syncs two songs and freezes my entire computer and I have to shut it down by removing the battery for the laptop. This isn't the first time this has happened, I remember going through the file folders on my pc until I got to a certain one, then I deleted it and my iPod worked perfectly. Only problem is, I don't remember the fourm or URL address of the post. And yes, the post was on apples discussion page. Any help would be great. Thanks

Leave it for 10 more minutes or so then
    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iPod fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • After update, iTunes hangs on "Verifying iPod"

Updated iTunes tonight, but whenever I plug my iPod in, it gives me the message "Verifying iPod" for several minutes, then freezes and is unresponsive. Have tried leaving it for ages, closing it and trying again, but not helping. Has this happened anyone else?

    theycallmechristophe:
I would like to get a dump from the iTunes process while this hang is occurring:
    1. Disconnect your iPod from the computer.
    2. Launch iTunes.
    3. Download and unzip ProcDump to your desktop:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/dd996900.aspx
    4. Click the Windows icon in the lower left and type cmd in the Search field.
    5. Right-click on the cmd Program and choose Run as Administrator.
This opens a command line window
    7. Type this into the window:
    +C:\Users\<your account user name>\Desktop\procdump.exe-h iTunes.exe iTuneshang.dmp+
where <your account user name> is the name of your user on Windows.
    8. Press Enter.
Some text should appear that looks something like this:
    +ProcDump v1.8 - Writes process dump files+
    +Copyright (C) 2009-2010 Mark Russinovich+
    +Sysinternals - www.sysinternals.com+
    +Process: iTunes.exe (2800)+
    +CPU threshold: n/a+
    +Commit threshold: n/a+
    +Threshold seconds: 10+
    +Number of dumps: 1+
    +Hung window check: Enabled+
    +Exception monitor: Disabled+
    +Terminate monitor: Disabled+
    +Dump file:+ <some location on your computer>
    9. Connect your iPod.
When iTunes hangs, ProcDump should create a .dmp file in the location listed by Dump File above.
    10. Email me that file: <[email protected]> and please include a link to this Discussions thread and your Discussions username.
    Thanks,
    Roy

  • Itunes freezes when verifying ipod when ipod is connected

So yer my itunes has frozen as soon as i connect my ipod. Constantly telling me it is 'verifying' .. problem is the 'verifying' never ends.. does anyone have a solution for this?
ive tried redownloading itunes but no luck..
this only started occuring when i downloaded the new version of itunes

It may help to just wait 10 minutes or so after iTunes has "frozen". This same thing happened to me, it was verifying and crashed. I tried reinstalling, restarting the ipod, etc, etc. It happened about 10 times with me quitting the program through task manager each time it froze. Finally I just decided to let it sit for a while after freezing instead of exiting, and lo and behold, the sync started after about 5 minutes. Try this for now and hopefully Apple will fix this bug eventually.

  • ITunes 11 not responds when it tries to verify iPod Classic

I have just installed iTunes 11 (11.0.3.42 i think) on my laptop but as soon as I connect my iPod Classic iTunes tries to verify the iPod and just hangs. If I disconnect my iPod iTunes will start working again.
I can't click on anything within iTunes while my iPod is connected and have to close it by task manager.
Ipod is detected by Windows and iPod has the 'connected' whirl icon.
    Windows 7 x64 Home
    Any ideas?

    Hi Kipperpig,
I would start troubleshooting the device first.  Here is the troubleshooting assistant for iPod classic:

If that does not resolve the issue, you might also try this article to troubleshoot the iTunes side of things:

  • Itunes Not verifying IPod Classic

I am trying to sync my Ipod, and for some reason Itunes isn't verifying my Ipod, thus making it impossible to sync the content of my computer. This is the first time it has ever done this. In the top box, it is saying, and has been saying for a while, "Verifying 'Derek Pelletier's iPod'". Is there a way that i can manually verify my IPod?

I'm having the same problem, with 180 GB iPod Classic. I have the latest iTunes and the current iPod update. I've Google searched for several hours and tried a few tips that other suggested, but it has not solved the problem. I hate to go to the more drastic level of doing a device restore. Surely Apple should have some responsibility here to provide a fix.

  • Can't  verify ipod

I have gone through all of the steps to verify my ipod touch. I cannot get an email confirmation. It has been over 24 hours. Any suggestions?

Nothing is helping! I did all that and nothing happened. I even tried to check my email using iCloud and it says it's already registered but I can't check emails at all. This is getting incredibly frustrating.

  • Ipod touch restore freezing at "verifying ipod restore"

it wont go past that. and yes, ive tried 3 different computers, put it in dfu, put it in recovery, and uninstalled itunes multiple times. how do i get it to stop freezing?

ive done a hard reset, but theres nothing installed on the ipod to reset. and ive done everything on that site. ive even gone through and removed everything that has to do with apple, ipod, or itunes on my system registry, and it continues to freeze during restore. and im on Win XP trying to restore to 2.21 firmware on my ipod. and no, my ipod has never been jailbroken. is there any solutions to this issue that dont involve removing itunes, or drivers? because ive done everything that has to do with that. it freezes regardless

  • Newest iTunes update will not stop freezing up, also freezes on "Verifying iPod"... I reset my iPod touch and everything and it still will freeze.

just like the title says, it's not working out.
i'll put more info if need be.

Re: Error message when trying to install iTunes

  • After trying to restore iPod several times, it is incapable of verifying the restore.  Any ideas how to fix it?  I've restarted both the iPod and my computer several times, and have redownloaded the lastest version of iTunes.  Help?

My iPod had an error and I attempted to restore the iPod to factory defaults.  It was able to empty the iPod of the software on it, but it has yet to be able to successfully restore the iPod.  It goes through all the steps successfully until it gets to the "Verifying iPod Restore."  After the progress bar has completed, it then gives me an error message.  Every time, it's the same message: Error 6.  However, none of the suggestions on the apple technical site have worked.  I even completely turned off ALL of my anti-virus /firewall programs and it still would not go through.  Any suggestions how to fix it?

    Joe,
Try removing the com.apple.iCal.plist file from your Macintosh HD/Users/yourusername/Library/Preferences Folder. To find that folder, use Finder>Go Menu>Depress the "Option" key>Library. Drag the .plist file to your desktop, and log out/in or restart and check iCal for functionality.

Each time I attempt to hook my iPod up to iTunes it gets stuck on "Verifying ______________'s iPod" (after a lenghthy issue listed below). I followed instructions I read in a form to uninstall all Apple related programs (ITunes, Quicktime, Bonjour etc), restarted my computer deleted iTunes folder, iPod folder etc etc et al (all of my iTunes files and music are on an external hard drive). Reinstalled iTunes, added all of my songs and files back to iTunes from the external hard drive and the same **** crap "do you want to san and fix..." "Windows can't check the drive while it is in use.." "Schedule disk check" and it sits stuck on "Verifying _________ 's iPod" until I finally get ****** off and unplug it, it then  cycles through without adding anything new.  I've left it on "Verifying____" over night and came back the next morning and it was still "verifying".  Help!

I am getting this too.  When I plug in my iPod C, iTunes freezes on "verifying iPod."  It does this even if i remove the internet connection.
It was working as of two days ago the last time I got new music.  Help...??
