Verizon against Palm Pre???

Why is it in our area the Verizon sales staff does everything they can to talk customers out of a Palm device. I was almost strong armed into a Droid. Then when I went to return it for a Pre I was told it would be a HUGE mistake and that I should consider anything put a Palm. Everything they said bad about the phone was false. I love the Pre and how it performs. It is so much easier to use and functions much better as a phone. Palm should quickly address this issue.

I had the same experience at the Sprint Store at 5528 South Sepulveda Boulevard, Culver City, CA - (310) 391-8610
They did everything they could to talk me out of buying the Pre.  In addition, it was the only phone in the store that was locked in a glass case.
I believe the reason why these sales people try to talk us (and everyone else) out of the Palm Pre is that they are on commission.  Palm Pre's are returned  (for Hardware issues) more often than other phones.  This takes money out of their pockets.  It also slows down their operations due to the constant maintenance issues and complaints.  Only the manager can make a decision to lock a phone is a case full time.  I swear I had to wait almost thirty minutes to get someone to open up the case even though almost all of the sales people were walking around with keys.  No one wanted to help me because they did not want have their commission recouped from their paycheck later.
Palm started this problem with their less than stellar hardware and now it has become a systemic problem throughout all of their sale conduits.
I still have my pre and its cute little oreo twist and I am not giving it up, but many others have not been as loyal.

  • Verizon neglects Palm Pre?

I would love to use the NFL Mobile app on a palm pre plus. Why does Verizon neglect the Pre and give everything to Droid? If the sales person would have told me that the Pre was the red headed step child I would have went Droid. What gives????

You could try Football Live from the Palm app catalog, it is $ .99 and should give you NFL info.

  • SERIOUS PROBLEM Synching Palm Pre Plus (Verizon) with Companion Link OS USB -- NEED HELP!!

I am having serious problems with Companion Link OS USB synching with Palm Desktop 4.2 via USB on my Verizon Palm Pre.
The Verizon phone is my second Palm Pre.  (The original Palm Pre which came from Germany worked perfectly with Companion Link).
The Verizon Palm Pre is a Palm Pre Plus.
As noted I utilize Palm Desktop software Version 4.2.0 on my computer.
I started out with Companion Link software Version 3.0 Build 3096  -- and have worked my way up to Version 4.0 Build 4008 over the last few months, and have spend hundreds of hours trying to solve the synchronization issue described in detail below.
The Companion Link software is configured to ONLY synch one way
FROM my Palm Desktop on my computer to the phone via USB
(I don’t want to put my contacts and calendar on the web, NOR do I like the way Google contacts works, even if I DID want to).
When I synch the Palm Desktop to the Palm Pre the following occurs:
    The Calendar synchs fine.
The contacts do NOT synch properly.
I have 1,500+ contacts in my Palm Desktop.
For some inexplicable reason, during the synch process the approximately 1,200+ of my contacts are compiled under ONE contact listing (John Davis). The icon by the contact shows that TWO contacts are linked under John Davis, however when I click on the icon to see who is linked under John Davis, NO contacts appear.  But I have the option to link additional contacts under John Davis if desired (AS IF!!).
So, 1,200 of my contacts do NOT appear in the contact list.  If I want to call my husband, and type in Bruce, NOTHING comes up.  BUT if I type in his phone number, the listing for John Davis comes up and shows me all the numbers that legitimately belong to my husband.  Ditto my friend Susan, etc for the other 1,200 contacts buried under the contact listing for John Davis on the phone.
SO, if any of these 1,200+ people, call me or text message me, my phone tells me I have a call or a text from John Davis.
I cannot look up my contacts to call them or text them because the contacts do not actually APPEAR under John Davis (If the phone were just linking them and SHOWED them, I could manually de-link them).
FURTHER, when I get a text message from anyone who is compiled under John Davis, the text message is truncated.  I can see the notification that I got a text message from John Davis, and I can see the first few words in the notification area, but if I open the text message, it appears to be blank (this only happens after synching Companion Link – before linking Companion Link all text messages are fine.  AND, if I get a text message from one of the 300 or so contacts that actually synch into my phone correctly, the text messages are perfectly fine and work normally.
I have worked with BOTH the Companion Link technical support people AND the Palm technical support people extensively in an effort to solve this problem.
I have done Full Secure Erases and started over trying to get the phone to synch more than 35 times at this point.
I have tried synching from different computers
I have had Palm replace the phone TWICE (so this is actually my third Verizon Palm Pre Plus).
I have run Web OS Doctor
    Nothing helps.
Every time the phone does exactly the same thing described above.
When I synch the phone it tells me:
Web OS:     Added             1543/1543    Contacts to the phone
                PC:              Updated          1232/1232     Contacts
(The 1232 contacts being updated are the 1232 that are compiled under the one contact listing of course).
Needless to say, Companion Link says it is the phone.
Palm says it is the Companion Link third party software.
Since it is the same 1,200+ contacts every time, I have had both Palm and Companion Link examine my contact database to see if they could identify anything amok about these 1,200+ contacts, but there doesn’t appear to be any difference between those contacts and the 300 or so that synch into the phone properly.
Companion Link has told me variously that:
    -  This is a very rare Synergy issue and that I must turn off the Synergy feature on the phone (would that this could be done per Palm it can NOT be done).
    -  Only TWO people have ever had this issue (me and someone else unnamed);
    -  That this is a common problem with the Palm Pre, but Companion Link works fine with every other phone
    -  I e-mailed them my contact list and they SWORE to me that they were unable to duplicate my problem on their computers.  (I don’t believe this)
    -  AND has most recently told me that there is nothing more they can do for me, that I will have to find a solution myself.
Palm has said that there is nothing they can do for me if third party software doesn’t work properly with the phone.
This does appear to be the Synergy feature run amok.  But how to correct it???????
I love the Palm Pre.  I love my Palm Desktop 4.2 software.
If I can’t get this fixed shortly, I guess I’m going to have to move back to a Treo 680.
Does anyone out there please, please, please have a solution or a suggestion that will help?

    Hello,
I am almost as frustrated as you.  Purchased my pre plus back in may and bought the companion link software immediately  ( I have synced via usb for years on other palms to lotus notes)  All the information from companion link states that it does the job.  I only need to sync my calendar, no contacts.   I have put in a ridiculous amount of time with palm, my IT department and Companion link,  IT HAS NEVER EVER EVER WORKED.   I deleted, re installed, upgraded, tried different steps in different orders, I have gotten a new phone, tried it on multiple computers.  NOTHING WORKS.   Probably been through all these steps listed 50 times by now.  Actually I think that companion link doesn't work for palm pre plus, they just are not willing to say so and advertise that is does work.
I am extremely disappointed in my pre because of this.  I did my research before making my purchase, it appeared possible.    I WAS a long term palm user.  Currently looking at new phones and never again a palm.  Companion link should be more careful about what they say they can do.  One of the service techs actually told me that if I wanted it to work I should ditch my palm.  That's service for ya.
Good luck,  the fight got the better of me.  I am done.

  • Palm Pre Plus (Verizon) won't connect to Exchange Server

I have been on the phone for 3 days (purchased the Pre from Verizon the day it came out) and have been unable to connect to my companys email server. I have had a Palm Treo 755 for yrs, and have always gotten my email to that. After days of speaking with Palm reps, I am being told that NO Verizon Pre is able to connect to a corp exchange server at this time. I am quite upset by this, since after listening to a Palm Reps advice, I had an IT person make sure our server was up to date, we had the correct certificates, etc. This of course took hours to complete, and the IT person's time is not cheap. So afte spending all that time and money dealing with this, I was told today by a supervisor at Palm that NOBODY on Verizons network is able to connect to their corp email server, and that it was an issue that is being looked into.
I searched the forums, and found lots of issues of this with Sprint service, but didn't find any with Verizon. Anybody else out there on Verizon and unable to connect? Or maybe the better question is, Does anybody out there have a Pre Plus with Verizon and IS able to connect to their Exchange (EAS) server?

    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

Correction to my last message. After doing a reset on my phone, and updating our server, I was able to connect to my email. Thank you for your comments to update to SP2. Overall, I am still very upset about the over the phone support Palm provided. Like I mentioned before, I brought up the SP1 vs SP2 option multiple times over the phone, and I was told each time that was not the issue. Even my IT guy fought me, a little, on doing that update since he had heard the same information as I did from the Palm reps on the phone. After creating an account on here, and PDAguy pointing me to the long thread about people with a similar problem, I showed this to our IT guy and he happily updated our server to SP2.
I am happy to get this issue resolved, but still feel Palm mislead me along the way, probably costing me over $400 in IT support,  my wasted time, and traveling to a Verizon store to exchange a perfectly good phone and having me trying different options that did not need to be done. I made 3 different calls to Palm (along with my IT guy who was paid by the hour) and each call lasted about 1 to 1-1/2 hrs. Most of the time being on hold while the rep "research" my question.  Even had a rep over the phone lie to me, and tell me he was able to connect to our server (using my info) with a Pre that he had with him. He then told me I had a faulty phone, and I was directed to go back to Verizon to switch the phone out. After I had switched the phone out, and it of course still did not work, I was then told by another Palm rep, and his supervisor that this was a know issue and that NOBODY with Verizon was able to connect to an Exchange server (with a Pre) due to a software issue on the phone. I had a rebate from Verizon to get this phone for $149, but with all my wasted time, the cost of my IT guy, and the lack of knowledge by the Palm reps, I think I probably own the most expensive Palm Pre Plus out there.

  • Palm Pre Plus: why have it Verizon if it`s no good for your customers?

I have a Verizon Palm Pre Phone and it is the absolute worst phone I ever owned and I have owned mobile phones back when you needed a operator to place the call., I have had this for for 3 months with 3 warranty replacements in 3 weeks the first two phones would not build a palm profile account phone 3 and 4 the verizon system does not recognize the  phone`.the s ESN I have spoke with both Palm and Verizon`s techs for hours with no help I have been blind transferred back and forth hung-up on by a verizon supervisor and the best help I can get is  suggested I buy a new phone. What about this phone Verizon phone  it`s 3 months old and still under warranty.  I have not had a working phone since 11/27/10 there customer service stinks for a guy who spends 500.00 a month. You are not the only game in town.

Unfortunate to hear your stories re: the palm pre plus.
On the flip side, I have had my phone since Jan 2010 and have had NONE of the problems you guys have mentioned.
To be honest, do not rely on verizon tech support re: palm webOS devices, as either they werent trained by palm when the devices were released, or they didnt pay mind to learn the ins and outs of webOS devices.  you'll get better tech support from palm, or even better from fan sites such as precentral or webOSroundup.  verizon is all into android these days, so if you have an android device, you will get much better tech support from verizon.
re: backup- the webOS devices are the easiest to wipe clean, or "doctor" your phone when you want to bring the device back to its factory default, and/or sell the device.  Its also the easiest to "hack" or "homebrew" which interestingly enough, is supported by hp and palm, unlike other platforms.  "homebrewing" is as easy as installing apps on your phone.  homebrewing should also NOT void your warranty.  "Overclocking" on the other hand, while a great tool for palm devices and also as simple as installing an app, WILL void your warranty because you are now affecting the hardware of the phone directly.  Do so at your own risk, though to be honest, it makes the phone SOOOOOOO much faster its hard to be without.  To  each their own.
Re: contact backup, I would recommend that you do NOT use the default palm profile to back up my calender, contact, and other entries, until HP or PALM one day allows you to access this info in the cloud or on desktop sync software.   I would recommend instead using one of the free syngergy services such as google or yahoo, or alternatively use third party software to sync with outlook or even palm desktop.  This way, all of your contacts, calender entries, and emails will ALWAYS have a backup stored somewhere else, and can easily be synced back to your webOS devices if you ever need to "doctor" or reboot your phone from scratch.
    Hope this helps.

  • Very slow through Verizon Palm Pre

When I connect my MacPro to my Palm Pre that uses mobile hotspot, I get about 1.5m down. When I connect my iPad, I only get about 160kbps. When I connect the iPad to my home wireless, I get the full speed of about 10megs down. I've tried connecting a few computers to the mobile hotspot and I always get pretty good speed but the iPad connected to the phone, is always slow. But again, no troubles when the iPad is connected to my home wireless.

this seems to be a known issue throughout 1.3.5...not sure of the fix time but this is being seen in huge numbers since the upgrade last week.  all of the slow response time seems to be a database issue and not a network connection issue.  i have direct wifi access points and good spring connection and it is virtuously impossible to check my email on the phone... ridiculous.

  • Glitchy palm pre, first it was the calendar now it is email

My palm pre is getting glitchier by the day.  First the calendar will not sync correctly, I keep deleting the gmail account and reloading it only to have the Palm completely ignore deleted events on the gmail calendar but insisting on having them on the Palm Pre, conversely, events that have been rescheduled on the Palm get removed the next time I check.  I can use my computer to keep track of my calendar events (making the Palm calendar completely useless) but now when I open my email account, at times when I tap on an email, it blinks open and then the palm deletes it before I can read it and decide if I want to delete the message.  Since the device is getting increasingly unreliable, I guess I wouldn't mind having it delete messages against my will, except it turns out that when they are deleted on my palm, I can't access them on my computer email account.
Is there a way to configure the palm so even when the email is deleted, it stays on the server of my email account?  It's really insulting to think that the device is now deleting my emails without my consent.

  • Can I transfer Tungsten E2 data to a new Palm Pre 2 smart phone?

I'm looking to upgrade from a Palm Tungsten E2 + an old cell phone to one device - a new smart phone.  I have Verizon, and they offer the Palm Pre 2.  The question is whether I will be able to transfer my address book and calendar (and a few other items) from my Tungsten E2 onto the new phone.  I also have a 3rd party cookbook and a shopping list application that I would love to transfer too.  Not holding out much hope for those though.
If anybody has any reviews of the Palm Pre 2 phone I'd love to hear those too!
    Thanks!

No, I don't use Outlook to synch. I've always synched with the Palm desktop s/w. I've considered synching to Outlook, but I wasn't sure if my E2 could synch the memos and to do apps as well. Thanks.  My Palm desktop s/w ver is 4.1.4.

  • Subsidized Palm Pre 2 and future web OS phones

I am currently a verizon cutomer using the motorola droid. My contract is almost up, and while the droid has held up well over the last 1.5 years I have been very interested in switching to a web OS device. The only reason I chose the droid over the palm pre was my perception that the original pre did not match up to competing hardware at the time. I am satisfied with the pre 2 specs but I'm unsure if a subsidized version will be introduced on various carriers. The website claims it will be coming to verizon but online news seems very sparse. I'd even be more hyped-up about new cutting-edge smartphone hardware running web os. I am not interested in any tablet computers and I get the feeling that hp is more interested in the tablet market than the smartphone market. I'm not interested in win phone 7 or iphone. Android is my main consideration. There is room for web OS in the smartphone market, just give the people what they've been wanting from day 1: state of the art hardware! Is it coming or not? I hope HP can be open about it's intentions so I will know whether or not to wait for web OS or continue on with android, because it is likely I will be locked under contract for another 2 yrs once the decision has been made.

That is just another small let down. It has potential but their trying to find the worth of some of the basic features of the phone its Almost a stripped down phone. Possibly scared to take their place in the good phone category.
The phone is starved like most elements of the economy right now. Literally small key features would boast hundreds of thousands of sales.  But each day I'm tormented at the fact that basic essential call protocol in the missed call and call logs truly doesn't operate correctly. Not as a preference or software but an actual defect in software development. Even not launching profiles from the user profiles is consistently disappointing. The phone literally looks like someone stripped all advanced features and standard essentials from the phone and wanted to see how well it sold on small niche additions.

  • Palm Pre USB overrides my keyboard

I've recently had a problem with using the USB cable on my Palm Pre with my desktops.  When I plug the USB cable into my PC, it t seems to override my keyboard, as in suddenly my keyboard stops working.  At first I thought it was because I have an older system at home, but it has happened at work as well.  Neither keyboard is USB connected. The only way to restore my keyboard is to reboot and remove my Palm.   Laptop has not proven to be an issue so far.
Any ideas?  I really like the convenience of being able to charge my phone at my desk without having to crawl uunder it to excavate the powerstrip.

  • Can't download music on palm pre plus

I can't transfer music from compute to my palm pre plus. Even with windows media or itunes. My palm doesn't reconize it as a mp3 file so it doesn't registerer on my phone as musi file. I did click and drag to my phone and also use windows media to sync media but my palm pre plus isn't regonizing it and it's not on my phone and I'm using my usb to connect to my computer. Any suggestions except to get new computer.
Post relates to: Pre Plus p101vzw (Verizon)

I suggest you check the file format your music is saved as.  Windows Media Player defaults to .wma files, not .mp3.  To change WMP, go to: Tools/Options/Rip Music tab.  Change the "Rip Settings" format to MP3.  The Pre will not accept Microsoft .wma files.
If this is true, you'll have to either re-rip the CD's, or use a free converter program to change the files to .mp3.
I've never tried to sync files via WMP, instead simply dragging and dropping each album folder on my computer to a folder on my Pre that a great program called "Wifi Media Sync" created (called Wifi Media Sync).

  • Palm Pre on AT&T

My wife has a plan through her work that I am under and it is with AT&T, in the near future I would like to upgrade to the Palm Pre.  When will the cool phone be available for AT&T?  Thanks
    Post relates to: Centro (AT&T)

It has been awhile since I last logged in.  I know that a company has to keep a secret for marketing purposes and for investing purposes.  I thought that having the Pre available for AT&T customers would be made public and if I did not know about it someone else would.  Anyway.  I am losing patience with my Centro.   My navigating button no longer allows me to move downward on the screen.  So I am forced to use the stylus.  I have upgrade options coming up soon for a change in phones on my wife's work AT&T contract.  I am torn because I have been a loyal customer to Palm.  I started off with the visor handspring pda.  After using that pda for awhile I moved up to the Tungsten T3.  All that time I was using a simple motorola v phone.  When I was able to upgrade my old phone (again under my wife's contract) with a real upgrade, I chose the centro while my wife got a Blackberry Curve.  I became frustrated with the way it handled email and the keyboard as well.  So I never used email on my phone again after the first week.  Then I heard of the Pre the carrot dangled in my face, all to find that it would be on Sprint.  I could wait, I was not able to upgrade my phone yet without a serious cost.  So in the meantime, I heard that after the new year when the exclusive rights run out AT&T will make a move to get the Pre.  Well here we are and Palm releases the Pre plus and it is on Verizon.  I feel shut out.  I imagine the Verizon customers in similar situations would feel the same way.  I know Palm needs to make money.  I don't fault them for that.  But to now have to wait two years.  This is too long.  I am really frustrated and about to consider Google, iphone, or something different to make things better for me.  Palm, please don't forget the AT&T customers.
