Verizon DSL/Router

Hi! I'd really appreciate it very much if anyone out there could help me with the procedure/mechanics on setting up or creating a password to my Verizon dsl/router so that my neighbors would not be able to access the net using my dsl connection. I've tried airport administration utility but the verizon/dsl router didn't show up in said utility. Thanks a lot.

The AirPort Admin Utility is only for Apple's base stations.
You will need to look at the instructions for the Verizon DSL/router to learn how to access it's configuration page. Typically all you need to do is access a web page.

  • Problem connecting to wifi from Verizon DSL router

    I recently had "upgraded" to the newer Verizon Westell router (7500, I think).  Well, I have setup the wireless to be able to connect a smart phone.  Unfortunately, that smart phone is on AT&T (Samsung Infuse 4G).  I was hoping to be cheap and use my DSL from Verizon to connect via wifi.  It worked at first, prior to securing the wifi.  I can connect through the wifi, but I am immediately transferred to a secure Verizon website trying to get me to "activate" my account.  It will not let me go anyway, but to that site.  Am I missing something?  I am locked out of my wifi since I have a competitors cellular account?  Any help would be great.

    Simply applying security to your router will not cause the "walled garden" message your getting about activating account. Has your Verizon account ever been suspended before? If so, you will need to clear temp browsing data on your phone. Also make sure you are connecting to your network and that it didn't hop on a neighbbors unlocked network. Phones can be configured to automatically connect to an unsecured network and that customers service might be suspended. If you run into further problems please send a private message.

  • Just got Verizon DSL - Should I turn on Firewall?

    I have a 2008 Mac Pro with Leopard and it's hooked up to Verizon DSL router/modem via ethernet. How important is Firewall? I have read some info about it, but I'm still not too clear.

    Harden your router or switch. If you don't have a switch, get one. Then filter and block ports and services. Most recent routers have good firewall capability and can help prevent-block and alert you via email to intrusion attempts, remote login attempts, denial of service.
    I never connect modem directly to computer. It also has ethernet go through 2nd surge protection (the modem has its own too).
    And, I use Intego NetBarrier, which works alongside Leopard firewall to provide cookie, web filtering, and personal information and protection.

  • Silly question, maybe. I want to change from Verizon DSL to cable, but cable company doesn't supply router.  can I use my Airport Extreme as wireless router?

    We currently have the following wireless home-network configuration, powered by Verizon DSL. 
    2 macbook pro’s
    1 emachine
    HP PhotoSmart 6122 all-in-one printer
    Apple TV
    Apple Airport Extreme Base Port A 1408
    Westell 7500 router
    Thinking I’d get wider wireless coverage throughout my 2 bedroom home, I purchased the Airport Extreme. It is connected to the router via its sole usb port.  The result was only a tiny increase in speed, and no increase in coverage, so I don’t know why I have it.
    We now want to change from DSL to cable, thus ditching Verizon.  Our new cable provider supplies the cable box, but no router for wireless networking. 
    Here are my questions.
    Can I use the Airport Extreme (AE) as a wireless router? 
    If so, how should I hook it up?  Should the usb cable go from the AE to the cable box, and all the other devices connect wirelessly?
    If not, how should I be using the AE to some advantage?  What can I get out of the investment?

    What I wrote has nothing to do with what the cable company charges for their installation. And, usually they will help with the router setup even if you supply your own router. I don't know what they will charge for the modem.
    Note that you need to get just a modem. You don't want a modem/router combination. That will make using an AEBS effectively nearly impossible. You will need to ask specifically for just a standalone modem, and that you will supply your own router.

  • EPrint does not work after new wifi router on Verizon DSL

    I have been using ePrint on my iPod, iPad, and iPhone for a few months without a problem, but recently had to switch to a new wifi router on my Verizon DSL, as my wifi kept turning off and Verizon's solution was an updated wifi router. Since the switch, I cannot ePrint from my mobile devices. I can, after reconfiguration, print from my laptops. The ePrint app still finds the Deskjet 3050a, says "sending to printer", but will not print. The ePrint is turned on. I tried to delete the app and reinstall in hopes that I can start fresh, but it still does not work. I tried to add a new printer, with the email supplied on the ePrint screen on the printer, but nothing.
    Any ideas?

    Is your printer connected to the new router as it sounds like it is still looking for the old one ?  Maybe  just disconnect it and reconnect it again to your new router and then the ePrint APP should pick it up.

  • WRT54G Wireless Router Installation With Verizon DSL in Windows 2000

    Okay, here's a question that I've got. I am trying to hook up a Linksys WRT54G router to a Verizon DSL connection that uses a Westell 6100 modem on a desktop running Windows 2000.
    Can someone please give me step-by-step instructions for changing configuration settings on the Westell 6100 modem and the Linksys WRT54G modem so I can get the router working?
    And don't suggest going to Linksys Technical Support, I've been on the phone with them for over 2 hours and neither one of the people I talked to was even listening to a word I was saying.

    You can follow these steps:
    Make sure you are online directly from modem
    Connect router, that is, connect modem to internet port on router, and one of the computer to one of the local ports on linksys router
    Login to router's setup by typing http://192.168.1.1 in browser’s address bar, and typing password as "admin" and no user name
    Change local ip address from 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.2.1
    Turn off modem and router
    After 1 or 2 minutes turn on modem, and another 1 or 2 minutes turn on router
    Now try to access internet, it will work

  • Verizon DSL-2750B modem bridged with a ASUS RT-N66U Router

    I'm trying to get my Verizon DSL-2750B modem bridged with a ASUS RT-N66U Router.  I have DSL/PPPoE service.   IS this what I want the Verizon modem set at?  Do I need to do anything else set on the Verizon 2750 Modem? 
    Also what port do I use on the ASUS router?  Does the ethernet cable plug into the WAN port or one of the 4 LAN ports?  I will post a picture of my ASUS router setup page in a few minutes.

    Since I do not have that router I do not know for sure what else you have to do, but I can tell you this..
    #1 Connect the WAN port of your ASUS to the Modem.
    #2 And with most modem combos:
    a) Must disable wireless (if not a wireless modem combo, N/A).
    b) Must disable the DHCP Server in it.

  • Connecting Timemachine to Verizon DSL modem/wirelss router

    How can I successfully connect my Timemachine to a Verizon GT704WG DSL modem/wireless router? Set-up I tried: The DSL line (reg. phone wire) is connected to the Verizon device. I connected the Timemachine to the router via ethernet. On my Verizon Network (loggin in via the browser) I can see the device connected. But the Timemachine keeps blinking Orange (error I assume). I cannot see the device via my MacBook pro in AirPort Utility (when trying to open TimeMachine). I also cannot click on manual set-up (option not available - grayed out).
    Question: Is it possible to connect Apple's Timemachine to another DSL wireless router via ethernet. Are there setting I must use to make the timemachine available, since the DSL router recognizes the device. How does one set this networking configureation up - or are there other devices I need as an intermitted relay - and will thise hamper troughput?
    PS: My DSL router does not have a firewall set-up for the connection to the Timemachine. I allowed all rules for the device. DHCP is dynamic.
    Any advice is much appreciated.

    Thank you Neturonboy for asking this question and thank you Tesserax for answering it. It's amazing that Verion's site has nothing about this; they do mention the Time Capsule, but nothing about this typical configuration. I have the GT784WNV model DSL modem/router, which is probably similar to yours. As soon as I turned Connection Sharring Off (Bridge Bode) and updated changes it worked.
    However, I couldn't find where to do this at first using Mac OS X Lion. Luckily, I had an older laptop, which had the more familiar looking AirPort Utility version 5.4.2 you're talking about. After I had switched to Bridge Mode, I went back to Lion's version and could easily see where this setting is located. In Lion's (10.7.4) AirPort Utility, click on the image of your Time Capsule (there is no "Manual Setup" button in Lion), then select Network (not Internet), then change Router Mode (not Connection Sharing): to Off (Bridge Mode).
    About Guest Networks:
    Note, if you have a Guest Network, then once you go to Bridge Mode, this feature is turned off; the whole Guest Network tab disappears from the choices under Airport (using the older AirPort Utility). Since these Verizon modem/routers are also wireless, your guests can access the network directly from  Verizon's router instead of going through your Time Capsule. Perhaps having a wireless router feature for your DSL modem makes the Time Capsule's Guest Network option redundant. You can get the network name, and other security information from the label on Verizon's router, but there is also a WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup) feature that looks like it might be useful for sharing your network. There's a physical button on the modem and there's a settings page on the routers' web browser accessible settings at 192.168.1.1.. I'm still looking into this.

  • Using an Airport Express to extend a Verizon wireless DSL router? (Westell)

    We recently switched our internet service over to Verizon DSL. The router they gave us is a wireless router. We have the Verizon network setup for both our computers to access it, but I wanted to use our Airport Express to connect our printer wirelessly and to extend the network. However, I can not get the Airport Express to join the Verizon network. Can anyone help with this? All I am getting is the blinking amber light on the Airport Express. I know the Verizon Westell router has its own WEP settings, which I have tried to give to the airport express, but it does not seem to be working. Very confused!!

    Unfortunately, most non-AirPort routers are not compatible with Apple's implementation of Wireless Distribution System (WDS)...so it very unlikely that your Westell router can be extended wirelessly with the AirPort Express Base Station (AX).
    The few non-AirPort brands that are known to work are:
    o Linksys WRT54G or WRT54GS (not v5)
    o Belkin F5D7230-4 and F5D7231
    o BT Voyager 2091
    o Netgear WGR614 v6
    o Buffalo WGR-G54

  • Settings to get wireless router to work with verizon DSL modem?

    I have a friend who lives in NYC who's roommate has verizon DSL service, and they're trying to get their Linksys BEFW11S4 wireless router working with it so my friend can use wireless with her laptop. They're clueless with networking things, and I'm only familiar with setting routers up for Fios and cable service. I know DSL settings are different and I was hoping somebody could tell me the important ones to use on the router for Verizon DSL in NYC. Right now the roommate is just using a little 3"x3" black modem connected to her computer with an ethernet wire, but they don't know what model or anything the modem is. Can anybody tell me what settings I should use when I login to the router and configure it? Thanks

  • Help setting up wireless network with Verizon DSL

    I bought a MacBook Pro and an Air Port Extreme yesterday. I have an iMAC G5 from October 2004. I have Verizon DSL service and a Westell Series 6100 modem.
    Bottom line --> I can't get the wireless connection to work.
    I have successfully used a wired dsl connection with my iMAC G5. But, I tried to just disconnect the ethernet cable from my computer and put it into the Airport Extreme and that didn't work. I used the utility to set up the base station and the network, but I'm not sure if I did it properly.
    I know a PPPoE is involved but I'm not sure of how to configure the system properly. I'm also not sure if the problem is with the configuration of the AirPort extreme or with my Verizon modem.
    All I know is that I want to see a green light on that thing and not a flashing orange one.
    Does any one have some instructions for setting up your AirPort Extreme using Verizon DSL? Has anyone else had similar problems? Thanks in advance!

    Just finished solving this problem. I am not a strong tech guy, but I know that since it works for others it is just a question of poking and pushing. Anyway it was nine hours in the making...
    My snow airport working with an airport express had been bullet proof with verizon dsl for a couple of years. I wanted to upgrade since I am now Intel mac and hit the blinking amber light.
    I am only going to be able to give the big picture... The AEBS found and worked with all my computers from the beginning, so the problem became that the default IP Address and Subnet Mask were wrong and never automatically adjusted by the assistants.
    Take your working plug-in ethernet connections or the working snow connections from the Airport Utility Internet Connect page. I used the manual configure process to access the info screens.
    I copied all the numbers down, but I believe you only have to insert the IP Address, Subnet Mask, Router Address and DNS servers. I put "dsl.verizon.net" in the domain search box.
    Go up to the IPv4 pull down menu and select manual and put in the numbers you copied. Then click Update. When the software returns control, the AEBS will still be orange.
    Toggle the IPv4 to "using DHCP" Click Update.
    This should bring the green light.
    I think I then updated the Network Preference Pane, probably had to manually put in my wireless password again. Browser and mail program worked.
    I think that was all. I may have had to repeat the toggle to make it stick, but I am operational for the last several hours, including the airport express, a G4 laptop and a Sony PC.

  • Problems setting up Verizon DSL (DHCP) and AirPort Extreme

    I have Verizon DSL with DHCP and old router (Linksys WRT54G). I've bought iMac and new router (AirPort Extreme) to connect to iMac wirelessly. I have a Windows computer connected to the Linksys WRT54G. Now here is the story. I can connect verizon DSL modem (it's in bridge mode) to PC directly and connect to the Internet. When I plug AirPort between the DSL modem and PC, auto-configuration doesn't work, AirPort utility says there is problem with internet connection. Router simply can't obtain IP address from verizon's DHCP server. I've tried to copy DNS server addressed from the IP configuration in Windows, the AirPort light went green and Windows indicated connection as successful, however I still cound't browse the Internet because gateway is not set. Any ideas how to make AirPort connect to the internet using DHCP instead of manual settings? I can try to do it from the mac if needed, I don't think it would make any difference though.

    Sorry, I can't quite track exactly what you are trying to do.
    What would the network that you are trying to set up look like?
    Modem>AirPort Extreme>Computers? Are you saying that you won't be using the Linksys in the new setup?
    Sounds like you need to set the Airport Extreme up to supply PPPoE service (which the Linksys is doing now-if the modem is in bridge mode), but I will wait for your response before offering specific info.
    If you've been fiddling with settings, we may need to do a hard-reset on the AX to start over. You should not be fiddling with DNS, etc. Almost always, these settings are done automatically when you have the device set up correctly.

    I recently purchased a Netgear ADSL2+ modem and a Netgear AC1600 router to replace the Verizon Actiontech combo router-modem that came with my Verizon DSL service. I am posting this problem and solution for anyone else who is or may experience the same problem.
    The Issue: the new Netgear modem would not connect to the internet. After several attempts using the setup wizard, trying different manual configurations, copying the Actiontech modem information, etc. the new modem simply would not detect or connect to the internet. The Netgear setup was getting stuck on indentifying a static IP address although the Verizon system uses a dynamic IP.
    The Short Story: the solution I found was to disconnect all devices from the DSL for several hours (overnight or possibly shorter). I believe this allowed the Verizon system enough time to reset/erase the previous device MAC address, thus allowing the new device to establish it's own MAC address as well as establish a new dynamic IP address within the Verizon system.
    The Long Story: this is an issue I was able to find on other forum posts throughout the internet. However, neither the Netgear tech support nor the Verizon tech support were able to identify the issue or solve it. The Netgear support was definitely the more helpful but ultimately they couldn't help me because the issue was within the Verizon system. The Verizon tech support was only able to go through their prescriptive check list before kicking the issue to the Advanced Tech Support. I was disappointed to find that this is just a ploy for getting customers to purchase a monthly subscription to tech support. What makes the situation more frustrating was that I was that the Verizon support technician kept telling me that they know the issue and could manually reset the MAC address on their end but first I would have to subscribe to the Advanced Support. The Advanced Support person turned out to be nothing more than a salesman with limited technical knowledge. The Advanced Tech Support salesman then refused to reconnect me to the standard tech support or connect me to a manager. In the end, I gave up and went to bed frustrated only to find that the device worked instantly the following morning. Hopefully somone with more tech savy can explain why...

  • Problems trying to install Verizon DSL to laptop..

    Hi, Im trying to install verizon dsl software from the setup cd but im having problems.
    At first, it opened the cd but i accidently closed it while it was running and now my laptop cannot read it.
    I already have a verizon account this one, and im using a wifi connection thats free around my area .
    I just wanted to use the model 7500 as my wireless router but I cant hook up to the internet from the ethernet cable for some reason. Please help, I've been trying to fix this for days while my desktop is running fine, my laptop is having problems.
    I want to know if there's an alternate way to download verizon software not from the cd because the cd's not working for me.

    it might be your browser.  I had that problem when I tried to activate using firefox.
    I had to use internet explorer to activate succesfully.  
    If you are using the CD and it gives you that problem, then try to use internet explorer, and go to http://activate.verizon.net
