Verizon Edge Plan A Scam

I purchased a Galaxy S4 almost a year ago, and have paid over 50% of the cost, in fact I only have 3 more payments to go. I wanted to Edge up to a Iphone 5s. I tried to go to a Verizon Store, and they could not help me stating that even though my account showed I was on the Edge plan it would not let them process the upgrade. I then tried to go through the website, which would let me get to the point of purchase then no option to use the Edge at checkout. As a last ditch effort I tried calling customer service. After 30 minutes of getting put on hold, then bounced to sales they told me they had never seen this issue before. I was told there was some code they could use to override the issue, however the representatives supervisor had to do the research and would call me back in an hour. The call never came. I am at the end of my rope on this one, and definitely have no choice but to finish out the payments on this phone without Verizon honoring their supposed Edge plan. I have been a subscriber since 1999, but at this point I think I am just going to have to jump ship to another carrier that will honor their service agreements. I have never had this issue with Verizon before, obviously they just do not care to keep your business anymore.

A year ago? The edge plan went live in August 25, 2013 maybe that is why you cannot edge up.
Also now instead of six months to get a new device you can do it every thirty days.
Go to a Verizon wireless corporate store not a reseller

  • Can I use the same sim card when I switch to the verizon edge plan?

I will be receiving my new Samsung Galaxy s5 that will be on the Verizon Edge plan. It will be arriving with a sim card. Can I just take my current sim card on my current phone and just use it with the s5? or will I have to use the sim card it comes with because I switched to the Edge plan?

You should be able to use the same SIM card; if they are different sizes, you can get an adapter or go ahead and use the SIM card that comes with the phone.

  • I do not qualify for the Verizon edge plan, even though I have been customer ever since they bought Alltel. Has anyone else had this problem.

Today I went to the Verizon store to upgrade my girlfriends phone which is on my account b/c I wanted to use the edge plan to buy the iPhone 5c. I had read in several different places that I could upgrade using edge and not loose my unlimited data, turns out I was misinformed, which the guy at the store told me after he had my information pulled up using my cell number. I told the guy I was not willing to give up my unlimited plan AND pay full price for the phone, I thanked him for his time and we left. When we left the store I called the Verizon number that is given on the website and told them I was interested in the edge plan for the 5c and asked for more information, ( I thought the guy at the store was wrong and I was checking). The woman I talked.......long story short, I talked to 8 people including 2 managers and none of them could tell me why I did not qualify for the edge financing (even if switching the plan), SO I was hoping someone on here might could help. I have been a customer since Verizon bought out Alltel, I have automatic payments set up with no late payments for as long as I can remember, and was eligible for an upgrade on 01/03/2013. Any experience or advice in this area would be appreciated.
    Thank You!

Here is my advice, at least. Not sure if anyone will agree, but it is my take on the problem.
With the Edge program, there is a "possibility" that someone will pay full price for a phone. This is not always the case, though. IF you do not complete ALL of the 24 months of payments, then you WILL NOT have paid full price for the phone, but simply a portion of the full price. THAT is why it does not make the plan "eligible" to keep your unlimited data. With the Edge plan, technically you only have to pay 50% of the full price before you can trade it in for another phone on the Edge plan. The way the plan is designed, the majority of people WILL NOT ever pay full price for the phone, but only a portion of the full price before they exchange their phone for a new device. That is what Verizon is hoping for, at least.
As Ann154 has pointed out, you can use the Device Payment Plan and keep your unlimited data. At no time during your contract can you trade THAT phone in to get another phone. You would have to continue making the payments on THAT phone along with any other phone you upgraded to. THAT is the difference between the 2 plans. You WILL end up paying full price for the phone on the Device Payment Plan, where you can STOP making payments on a phone with the Edge Plan if you turn it in for another device.
    Good luck.

  • Questions About Verizon EDGE Plan???

So, me and my guy went into what we thought was a regular Verizon Store to ask about combining our accounts to save some money (we are engaged).  My guy was having major issues with his Pantech Maruader and the sales person convinced him to get on the EDGE plan and get a Samsung Stratosphere II (he wanted a keyboard smartphone).  I asked about when we could combine our accounts and he said any time.  He suggested we do it on the 1st of next month though so the bill won't be huge.  Well, I called up Verizon today to try to get a quote again since I had forgotten.  They told me and also told me I didn't have to wait to get my guy on my plan.  So I proceeded on the website to try to "add a line" and it wouldn't let me.  We called customer service and they said an EDGE plan couldn't get under a non-EDGE plan and there was this"assumption of liability" phrase getting thrown around.  I said I accept the assumption of liability and they said they still couldn't do it.  If I wanted to connect to HIS plan I could but not vice-versa.
So I have heard all these different things and stories.  And I wonder if he can just pay the balance off the phone and quit this EDGE plan and go back to the normal plan he had before, I believe the MORE EVERYTHING plan?  Another guy at the "Verizon" store said we can't combine the accounts and that the EDGE plan just came available two days before he got the new phone and the plan.  This was March 12, 2014.  He also stated that they were very uninformed about the EDGE plan as employees and that the "Assumption of Liability" bit was told to them last week.
But from what I'm reading up here is that EDGE rolled out August last year????  So did I just get blantantly lied to so I wouldn't go off on the guy?  I didn't act angry towards him or anything just went in there asking what were th options so we can combine our accounts.  I want him under my account cause my job discount is bigger than his.  He also stated that we could just pay off the phone and there would be no early termination fee and he could go back to his regular plan...then transfer to myaccount, is this true??
Please someone shed some light on these questions!!

We tried to go into the Verizon store on N. Main St. in Suffolk, VA. yesterday to pay off the phone balance and get out of the EDGE plan, do the AOL and get him under my plan.  The Rep said we couldn't do that until it's been 30 days since he signed up for the plan.  That will be on Saturday, but she said wait until Sunday just to make sure.  So AGAIN I am getting a run-around.  I am tired of this situation.  Does Verizon not want $335 out of my pocket immediately??  I will be printing out this conversation and bringing it to the store again today.  Also, I hope you are a real representive and not a robot, since the other store told me the other responses from a chat I had on this site was from a robot and basically blew off any of it's answers...
The original store btw is on Portsmouth Blvd. in Chesapeake, VA.  They "state" they are an authorized Verizon dealer but they are NOT an official store.  The REAL name of the store is WeRWireless and the address is 4300 Portsmouth, Blvd. #196, Chesapeake, VA. 23321
The store I will be going to tomorrow will be Verizon Wireless, 1202 N. Main St. #200, Suffolk, VA. 23434.

  • So I went into the store to start a Verizon edge plan was denied but was approved for a 2 year contract why?

    Please help!

Edge approval is dependent on credit worthiness? Any late payments in the last 6 months? Trust me Verizon would actually prefer people be on the Edge plan.

  • Verizon Edge Plan - Is this really a good deal?

The actual service plan costs do not change at all.  $40 for a Smartphone access, and $50 for 2gb, $60 for 4gb data, etc.
Typically you put down $199 for a 16gb iPhone (+the new $30 upgrade fee), that leaves $450 left you owe on the phone that is rolled into your 2 year contract.
Now with Edge you can get the same phone for only $27.15 down.  Sounds great, right?  However typical contract monthly bill just went up $27.15 to pay for that new phone, as you are paying for your new phone separately in full,  from your service plan.
(That $27.15 payment works out to be $328.80 a year)
That $450 ($225 per year) that previously got rolled into your service contract is still there.......yes, you are still paying for 2/3 of a smartphone in your service plan.....I mean month-to-month service.
And if you trade your phone in when it gets 50% paid off, you better hope that phone is in good condition - Verizon needs to have that phone in good condition so they can resell it back to other customers as "refurbished".
"To be eligible for the Edge Up option, the Edge phone being returned must be in good working condition and have no significant damage, as determined by Verizon Wireless."
And once you are in the plan, you can't get out until you have a phone paid off completely, so unless you are able to make extra payments toward your device, that's 2 years.

I recently (in the last week) had a conversation with a Verizon rep and she made the Edge program sound very inviting. After a year, I am always itching to get a new phone so I am seriously considering the jump. I do agree with your points, however, with the current promotion to lower your monthly access by $20 a month for plans 10Gb or larger, I believe the deal has got better. I was also told they would waive the $30 activation fee. Granted, through my employer, activation are waived but this seems very doable. So instead of
$40 a month for my current plan
I get a Note 3 for $29 a month and the $40 is reduced to $20, making my new access fee $49 (really $50).
If you think about a lesser phone, say an S4 mini, your monthly access would be $37 ($20 access + $17 phone).
Disclaimer - you only get a $10 discount for data plans under 10Gb. This isn't a problem for me since I have 5 devices.
Does this make the Edge look better?
Not to be super critical but your access fee is $20( $40-$20 discount ) you then have the Edge payment $29 and the "data"( data, minutes, texting ) portion $100( for 10 GB )

  • Why is it that the only family plan Verizon has seems to be the Edge plan?

I have a family of 3 any to have 3phones and 6GBs of data cost me over $200.  But the Verizon edge plan with 4 phones and 10GBs is $160.  I think this is idiotic.  All other carriers have a family plan I can customize to my families needs and they are cheaper.  I even tried to switch over to the edge plan and I was not able to. I have been with Verizon for over 10 years but think it may be time to switch.  Tired of feeling like I am getting ripped off.

Edge is PAYMENT plan for people who pay full price for their phones but do not have the money to pay the full amount. At&t's plans are exactly the same. If you're not buying a new phone you don't get to be on Edge. That would be like asking a car dealer if you can make car payments but are not interested in buying a car. Why would you do that? The 4 lines for $160 is not taking into account the phone payments which average around $25 per month so for 4 lines that would be an additional $100 thus making it $260.
Anyway if your current lines are off contract you can get 10 GB for 3 lines for $145. In fact starting today you can get 15 GB for 3 lines or $155 or 30 GB for $175

  • Verizon Edge and BYOD

Hopefully, a Verizon Wireless Customer Support rep can answer this question.  I am currently on a family share plan, 2 smartphones (unlimited data) 2 feature phones.  I would like to change to the More Everything/Verizon Edge plan with 10GB of data.  I have 4 verizon smartphones, 2 from original contract, and 2 others.  With just More Everything, it would be $160 for phones..$40/line.  With Edge and 10 GB of data, it would be $60 for phone, $15/line after the $25/line discount.  Same price at AT&T.  So my questions are these;  Can I bring my own devices to the Edge program, and get the per line data discount?  Or, If I buy one Edge phone, can all the other phones on my plan enjoy the per line discount?  and finally, Does the Edge discount continue after the phones have been paid off.  Thank you for any assistance.

First, let's clear up a misunderatanding - EDGE is a payment plan for phones.  If you are bringing all 4 phones then none of them will be on EDGE - that's only for a new device purchased with the EDGE payment plan.
MORE Everything will have a $40/line access for each of the smartphones.  If they currently are out of contract (as they would be if you BYOD), and you have a 10GB or larger data bucket ($100) then you would receive a $25 line discount, effectively erasing the $100 data buck cost.  Total for 4 smartphones and 10 GB shared data, $160.
With EDGE, the cost would be the same, but you would also have to factor in the cost of the phone (the payment plan that is EDGE).  Bringing your own phone without a contract results in the same cost for now, the Month2Month discount, but that is available NOW and may not be in the future.
If I buy one Edge phone, can all the other phones on my plan enjoy the per line discount? Yes, as long as they are out of contract.  And finally, Does the Edge discount continue after the phones have been paid off. It's available now as the month2month discount; whether that will still be available once they EDGE agreement is paid off, who knows?

  • Can i have more information about verizon edge program

What is the deal with Verizon edge program?  Does anyone know that if you have 4 lines on your account if just one person on your account wants to participate in the Verizon edge program, is this possible? or does everyone on your account have to participate.  Also, I have a few more questions, Let pretend I sign up for Verizon edge and do not want to edge up after 30 days with paying at least 60 percent of the phone that I just got off (which I think is kind of pointless)  So I continue paying on my phone for 20 months, then the Verizon edge program is over in 24 months correct?  Then after that, then could I go back to new every two program if I wanted to, after Verizon edge contract ends?  Then I can keep the phone that I paid for correct?  This is all really strange to me.  If I pay full retail price for a phone, I do not want to give it back to Verizon for them to resell.  It sounds like a leasing program to me.  Why would you want the continued payments on a phone, like a never ending credit card bill.  Anyway, all I want the Verizon edge for is get an early upgrade and a payment plan for a phone, then pay off the phone and keep it for the remainder of the Verizon edge plan, then end it.
Also, I do not have very good luck with phones working the entire time, that is what concerns me the most.  I have a s3 currently and it is completely messed up for the past couple of months.  The phone is acting nuts, drops calls, no reception,  cuts out, powers down at 46 percent.  So how is this going to happen if im the Verizon edge program and something happens to my phone, then  I cant put a back up phone on my account for a replacement.?  If the phone is defective and one of the stipulations of the plan is to return your phone in good working condition, then how would one do this is this situation happened?

The Verizon Edge payment option is basically a "leasing" program. The New Every Two program was retired in 2011.

  • Can i change to the verizon edge

Hi there... I have been on the All Set plan for a year now and was wondering if I could switch to the Verizon Edge plan to purchase a new device and make payments towards it rather than all up front?

To be eligible for Verizon Edge, your device must be eligible for an upgrade and:
Existing customers of 7+ months must have a good payment history with us during the prior six months.
New and existing customers of 6 months or less must pass a credit check.
You must have a postpaid service agreement with Verizon Wireless.

  • Verizon edge

I signed a contract May 2014 at this time I didn't know about the verizon edge plan or offered it I found out about it the other day when a family member came over and mentioned it to me  and told me all about it and how less expensive it is I'm wanting to know even tho I signed a 2 year contract with no deposit and nothing was mentioned to me about verizon edge plan can I go to that plan being it wasn't offered to me

JerryG0458 wrote:With the edge from what my family member told me about I can choose what ever phone I want just have to put a percentage down then have a earlier upgrade and he gets more data and has two lines for less than what I  pay now with the 2 year I can choose other phones but have to pay more and have to wait 2 years for upgrade
I think you're confused about the plan. With the Edge plan you pay full price for the phone over 20 payments. When you get a phone on contract you typically get a huge discount. Hence the contract. For example a Galaxy S 5 would be $199 with a 2 year contract. On Edge it's $600. You're 3 months into a new contract so yes you'll need to finish that contract to pay off the $400 discount you got. Also with Edge you get either a $10 or $25 discount per month depending on your data plan.
So say you're on a 2 GB data plan. With a discounted 2 year upgrade for a Galaxy S5 you're monthly cost would be $40 line fee, $50 data fee so $90 plus taxes/fees. With Edge you cost would be $30 line fee( $40-$10 discount ), $50 data fee, $30 Edge payment. For a total of $110  plus taxes and fees. For a 10 GB data plan it would be $40 line fee + $100 data $140 total for 2 year contract. One the Edge plan it would be $15 line fee( $40-$25 ), $100 data, $30 Edge payment. for a total of $145 per month. After 1 year or when 60% of the cost of the phone is paid off you can upgrade to a newer phone on the Edge plan as long as you trade in your current phone and it's in good working condition.

  • Verizon Edge-- Note 4 $200 promotion Question!!!

    Dear Customer Service Rep,
I preordered the Note 4 for Verizon Friday Sept 26th.  Now with an accepted phone trade in can I use that 200 credit towards the phone if I am going through the Edge program.  If not, would I have to purchase it out right using the 200 and the money I have to pay for it then get the edge plan?  If yes, is the price for the phone outright 699.99 like it is at verizon or is it more....If it is more how can I cancel my preorder and I will just go to a vzw store and preorder it there and just wait 4-8 wks for the 200 credit.
    Thanks,
    WRCupZ86

    Hi WRCupZ86,
Thanks for your interest in purchasing your Samsung Galaxy Note 4 with us! It looks to be one impressive phone, so I can imagine how anxious you must feel to receive yours.
Regrettably, Best Buy gift cards cannot be used as payment towards Verizon Edge, Sprint Easy Pay, or AT&T Next plans. If you'd like to apply the trade-in gift card towards your Note 4, then you'll need to purchase the phone as a traditional upgrade (incurring any applicable activation fees). • $200 Trade In Gift Card Offer with Verizon Edge

I was informed by two Best Buy associates that I could trade in any working smartphone for a $200 gift card that could be applied toward a purchase of a Galaxy S5 or a Note 4.  Both associates told me that the gift card could be used for a two year contract renewal or the Verizon Edge program.  If I chose to go with Verizon Edge then the gift card and any cash that I wanted to put toward the retail cost of the phone would be applied before the net difference was spread over a 24 month period and would reduce the monthly amount payable to Verizon for the phone cost.  .
I bought a black Note 4 last week and renewed for two years at that time but the Edge program was offered at that time and I was told it would be reduced with the $200 gift card from the trade in.   I went back to my local Best Buy store to return it because they now had a white phone in stock which they did not have last week.  Also, since last week Verizon has also reduced their data plans and I now have a 10GB plan so wold qualify for the $25 discount per phone line instead of $15 with the 6GB plan.   When I went to return the phone I told the representative what I wanted to accomplish and they said it would be no problem to apply the gift card, cash and change to the Edge plan.
When it got to the point to apply the gift card from the return and the cash I had previously paid they told me they could not do that and I would have to either pay the full retail price for the phone or spread the $749.99 cost across 24 months. They showed me on their screen that they did not have the capability to apply the payment.
Why was I told by two other associates that this was possible and was the representative tonight correct in saying it is not possible to apply the reduction.  She did say that if I had bad credit and Verizon required a down payment  that she could then accept a payment to reduce the cost of the phone but becuase I had good credit she could not do so. She then offered to put the price of the phone on a credit card which I would then have to pay monthly.
    Please advise.

    Greetings djcarree,
I realize this may not be the answer you were hoping for, but avm5689 is correct: Best Buy gift cards cannot be applied as payment towards devices on Verizon Edge, AT&T Next, or Sprint Easy Pay plans. To apply any gift card to the purchase of a mobile phone, customers must purchase the device as a traditional upgrade (incurring any applicable activation fees) or as a replacement device at its full retail price. That said, it's disappointing to read you may have received misinformation regarding available payment options during your initial visit. We rely on our in-store reps to provide accurate and detailed information on our partner's services and our own policies, so it's disconcerting to learn of situations where that expectation may not have been met.
If you're still in need of assistance and have not already done so, I'd encourage you to return to your local store when the have the chance. As I mentioned above, you'll need to re-purchase your Note 4 as either a replacement device or traditional upgrade in order to apply your trade-in gift cards towards the sale. Please also note that mobile phones can only be returned or exchanged within 14 days of the purchase date, and that additional carrier restrictions may apply.

I received my new Verizon Edge bill in the mail and it is $80 higher than my old plan.  I have been so unhappy with this change over.  Went through hell getting our second phone activated because of a weird computer glitch and when we asked if we would receive any consideration for the time, travel, and money we put into getting the phones the way they were supposed to be, we were told to wait until the bill came and then they could make adjustments.  Now I have the bill and have no idea "who" the we would be that could make adjustments.  To top it off, the only way I know my account will get any attention is to post this in chat.  I am so disappointed and will be counting the months until our phones are paid off and we can change companies.

    Call 800-922-0204
I just purchased a new device using Verizon Edge. Why does my bill look higher than normal?
There’s two reasons why your first bill after signing up for Edge might be higher than normal:
Prorate Charges – If you upgraded an existing line and did a price plan change, you may have price plan charges and credits that went into effect the day you upgraded.
Sales Tax – Most states require sales tax on the full retail price paid by the customer, which in most instances will be charged at the time of the first invoice.
Note: Customers who purchased devices in AL, AZ, CO, IL, NM, ND or SD will be billed taxes and surcharges monthly as payments are made.
    Your bill will normally include:
    Your last Edge installment payment
    The next Edge installment charge
If you are on a MORE Everything Plan, a monthly access discount for each qualifying line.
The details of Edge installments and discounts can be viewed at the line level portion of your bill under Monthly Charges and Equipment Charges, or in My Verizon, My Bill then Charges By Line.
