Verizon email on 2 macs?

I have an IMAC (2009 vintage) with 4 GB RAM, Intel 3.06 Hz processor running Mavericks 10.9.3
I also have a 13" MACBook Pro with 8 GB RAM Intel iCore 5 2.4 Hz running Mavericks 10.9.3
Verizon is my ISP.  I want to setup MAC Mail on both machines so that they are always in sync.  I'm not sure how to do it. I just purchased MACBook over the weekend.  I haven't tried to setup Mail on the MacBook.  I have been accessing Verizon email on the MACBook from directly from Verizon site.
Does anyone have an idea on this one?
Thanks in advance for your help.
A-Man

On each machine open Mail, under Mail on the menu bar, Accounts, then since Verizon is not a standard preloaded account, go to the bottom of the list and Add an account.  Enter the account information for your Verizon account, the name on the account, password with Verizon, the POP specs, and so on.  You can setup each machine the same way and they will all go to Verizon's server to get the mail and then let you work with the mail.

  • Verizon email via Mac Mail totally locked out/unresponsive since abt Sept 17th

What am I to do to get Verizon mail working again, as it always had, with my Mac Mail client, from overseas?
I have NO email access to verizon via my Mac Mail client at all. 995 & 465 ports time out after long, futile waiting periods, never to connect.
Webmail via Safari is ok, tho very sluggish when trying to sign in.
But I must access Verizon email via my Mac Mail client. Webmail is not reliable for me.
I am often in germany, where I use Telekom (t-online) for my internet connection, & have no problem with my t-online email which has the same exact pop/smtp settings as the Verizon email accts.
& have had no problem with verizon email whatsoever for the last 8 years.... until Sept 18th.
Verizon's Support chat y gave me a runaround & a brush-off with false advice & absurd info. (I'd saved the transcript & confirmed my suspicions by showing it to other colleagues who are computer saavy professionals). Altho the Verizon support chat admitted forum reports that overseas accts were suddenly locked out due to some security issue, they did not offer that info without my first suggesting it & then they claimed that my problem must be with Apple's Servers!
(my verizon email does not go thru any apple server, excuse me?!?)
I can not call any verizon 800 numbers from outside the USA & no alternative non-toll-free numbers are offered on any Verizon site that I can find.
No email address is offered for any Verizon support.
I do not use any social network (eg Facebook or Twitter).
So what am I to do to get Verizon mail working again, as it always had, with my Mac Mail client, from overseas?

  • Subject: Verizon suddenly refuses to send email from Eudora (Mac)

Hello. On August 1st, my computer suddenly lost the ability to send verizon email. It will still receive it, and still sends and receives gmail. I had changed no settings whatsoever (not since last year, when Verizon required a change in the outgoing server name and use of SSL port 465 for SMTP). My iPad will still send a receive fine; it’s just my computer that’s changed. After much troubleshooting, I’ve determined that something changed with verizon’s servers on August 1. Yet a call to Verizon tech support yielded no acknowledgment – other than to confirm that all of my settings appear to be correct.
I’ve been using Eudora, Mac OS 10.6.8 (I still requre Rosetta for several apps.) Side note: before anyone tells me to “join the modern world:” I add my voice to the small chorus who proclaim that no other email program provides Eudora’s functionality. Having been using it for ~20 years, I have several hundred filtering rules, several dozen active in-boxes (windows spatially arrayed on my screen), several user profiles, and a well-organized, easily-searchable archive of my on-going correspondence. Yes, I am well familiar with Mac Mail, having been using it for three years on my iPad. It pales in comparison (as does iOS in general). I seriously tried Thunderbird about five years ago, and unless it has completely changed its paradigm, it too will not suffice. I hope to continue with Eudora and OS 10.6 (Rosetta) for two more years until I retire, then the rest of world can go ahead and proceed with the dumbing-down of computer functionality, right along with the gradual, slo-mo plunge into idiocracy. But I digress.
In addition to having confirmed with Verizon that my settings appear to be correct, I have explored various options using ‘x-eudora-settings”, which provide for all sorts of configuration tweaks. For instance, using “<x-eudora-setting:32403@[USER-PERSONALITY]=465> I can confirm that SMTP is using the correct port for SSL authentication. But then this shouldn’t even need changing, as I already had the setting “SSL for SMTP Required ‘alternate port’.”
Elsewhere, forum users suggest inserting the string “SmtpAuthBanished=CRAM-MD5” into Eudora WINDOWS “.ini” file. I’ve tried the corresponding x-eudora-setting on Mac, to no avail. [ <x-eudora-setting:12909@[USER-PERSONALITY]=cram-md5> ]
Meanwhile, the official Eudora support site specifies two situations where sending mail might fail: “The server advertises that it supports an authentication mechanism that it does not actually support...[or] The server advertises that it supports an authentication mechanism, but has implemented the mechanism incorrectly.” It seems that this is what has occurred with Verizon – but wish me luck in getting them to acknowledge anything along those lines.
I’ve explored other settings too. But at this point maybe I’ve noted enough here for someone to recognize the precise issue and to please suggest a fix.
BTW, Verizon forums website is messed up: it won’t even allow me to register as a user to post there. When I try to sign up, it keeps returning, “Error in Registering User : Could not Register User,Please retry” [sic]. ***?

    Michael,
I'm confused. Is SL *Server* required or just the basic SL?
The MacRumors thread at least implies that basic Snow Leopard can be used:
    http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1365439
The graphic there of SL is the same as the SL available on the Apple website, part no. MC573Z/A.
    But the thread also states:
Snow Leopard Server for $19.99 + sales tax & shipping costs at 1.800.MYAPPLE (1.800.692.7753) - Apple Part Number: MC588Z/A (telephone orders only)."
Different part nos. But I understand the thread is a few years old now. Is it now the case that one can simply order part no. MC573Z/A from the website, for use in a Parallels environment?
Secondly, I've just read some comments elsewhere to the effect that Oracle's VirtualBox is a nice environment for hosting SL/rosetta – and it's free. Do you, or does anyone, have any comments or tips on running SL (server or basic) in an OVB environment?
    https://www.virtualbox.org/
I wrote the original tutorial, initially on this site and later moved over to MacRumors when I discovered that it is impossible to modify the initial post on this forum, back when Snow Leopard Server was being sold by Apple for $499+!  So at that time, virtualizing Snow Leopard client was the priority and those instructions successfully completed that task.
But now with Apple selling SLS at $20, a 95% discount, there is really no reason to go through the added installation and maintenance required by Snow Leopard client into Parallels; much better to just install and maintain SLS!
I personally have no experience with VirtualBox and little experience with VMWare Fusion.  When I purchased my first Intel Mac, I migrated from VirtualPC on the PPC platform to Parallels and I have stayed with them for convenience and, in my experiences, a good product!  Ironically to this day I am still able to use the licensed copy of Windows XP from VirtualPC on Parallels for my brief Windows needs!
Aha, I read on VMWare's site that the SL has to be "server" due only to Apple's EULA. So that's it.
It was a common Urban Myth that the Snow Leopard EULA prohibits its virtualization in Lion, Mt. Lion and Mavericks on a Mac.  That myth has been successfully debunked over the last three years, and given the price reduction in SLS, this action has effectively rendered the little remaining debate (by the one or two members of this forum, who have nothing better to do with their time) moot!
I would be curious to see a link over to where the VMWare site makes such a claim and I would be happy to address it, once I have reviewed it.
Still would be nice to have a better comparative sense of Parallels, VMWare and VirtualBox, as pertains to running SL Server, Eudora, and other Rosetta apps (e.g., in the music and audio world in particular).
Again, I cannot help you here; maybe others will jump in on this question; however anecdotal comments on this forum suggest that Parallels functions at a better level in general (and they also offer a 14 day free trial download, which if you intend to use, you should obtain SLS before you activate the 14 day period).

Yes, it's a POP account.  I kinda thought that the old messages would be safe in mailboxes "On My Mac," but since it's an irrevocable choice, I was reluctant to pull the trigger.  However, the suggestion above from keg55 relieves my concerns on that score; I'll make a backup copy before I delete the account just to be on the safe side.
Thanks very much to both WZZZ and keg55, I really appreciate it!

  • Getting my verizon email from another computer

my main computer just went down and I would like to continue to view my verizon email from my laptop, which is not set  up with email account from verizon.
I know there is some string that I can type to retrieve my email but not sure what that is.
I looked in the help section but could not find the answer in all the junk listed there.
Can anyone please provide simple instructions on how I can get my verizon email
    thanks

If you want to use webmail, simply point your browser's address bar to http://webmail.verizon.com and log in.
If you prefer to use a pop3 client (such as Outlook Express, Thunderbird, or Mac Mail), then you will need to configure your client of choice with the appropriate settings. Below are the settings you should be using. If you have trouble with the configuration, tell us what client you are using and we can try to give step-by-step instructions.
For the sake of example, we are going to pretend that we are setting up fictional account "[email protected]" and the password for logging into that account in webmail is "fakepassword" - Again, this is a fictitious account for the sake of an example.
The settings for using Verizon's servers would be:
    Incoming Server: incoming.verizon.net
    Server Requires Authentication: Yes
    Username: fakeacct
    Password: fakepassword
Requires a Secure Connection (SSL): No
    Port: 110
    Outgoing Server: outgoing.verizon.net
Server Requires Authentication: Yes (You can set it to use the same settings as incoming, or manually enter the username and password.)
Requires a Secure Connection (SSL): No
Port: 25 (although 587 also works.)
These settings should work unless you have a Verizon/Yahoo account, in which case the server names are: incoming.yahoo.verizon.net -and- outgoing.yahoo.verizon.net

I set up my Verizon email account on my iPhone 5,but now my phone is only letting me recieve emails and not send any.

You could go to icloud.com on your computer, then download your iCloud calendar as an .ics file as explained here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4910 (under Calendar...icloud.com Calendar), then import this to a supported program on your computer such as Outlook or Mac iCal (if you have one) and sync it to your phone using iTunes; or if you don't have a supported program, import it to an external service such as Google Calendar (see http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/30834/add-an-ical-or-.ics-calendar-to-google-cale ndar/) and sync it to your phone using a gmail exchange account (as explained here: http://support.google.com/mail/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=138740).

  • Verizon email server does not respond

This evening (3/30/2013 7PM) none of my 3 MAC computers can access our verizon email accounts. I had reset to latest settings last week. Web mail works. Is there a system wide mail server problem?

As of right now (8:12 pm CDT) mine is working again.
Regarding the comment about what tech support said, it seems to me it is a very reasonable question back to you; if your email used to work and you haven't changed your definitions, and right now it doesn't work, what info do you need? Do you expect the rep to somehow magically fix the problem? It seems to me, if it isn't working then it isn't working, really simple, just go do something else for a while and try again later. Has worked for me.....

  • Verizon email syncing

I have a Verizon email account I use as a secondary. I have this account setup on a Mac Pro, MacBook Pro and iPhone using the Mac Mail application on all. Whenever I read mail from this account on any computer (or iPhone), the message ALWAYS appears as unread on the other two devices. Same with deleting messages, they delete from one, never from the others. When I check email using a web browser (verizon.net), ALL my "already-read & deleted" messages are still in the inbox.
Does anyone have any idea why? Are there specific preference settings I can set in Mac Mail that will make my Verizon mail sync between all three devices and Verizon server?

The situation you describe is normally the result of using POP email access set to leave the mail on the server. Leaving the mail on the server is the only way with POP email to be sure all those systems/devices have the same emails. This is also why the mail you download to one device and read still shows as unread on the other devices - it's all new unread mail to those other devices. What it seems would suit you better is IMAP, which it appears Verizon does not offer.

  • New configuration for Verizon email on Apple products

So I am pretty tech savvy, having worked with both Apple and Windows formats since the mid 1980s.  I can follow instructions very well.  So when I follow the instructions for pushing my Verizon email to my iPhone 4S (or iPad or desktop), there is ALWAYS an error in the set up.  First, the Apple Mail app will automatically use the suggested incoming and outgoing servers (now pop or smtp) and we get "Cannot Connect Using SSL"  So I proceed, save and then use the Advanced Settings to ensure that SSL is on, authentication is Password, and that the server port is 995.  Same for SMTP but with port 465.
These are the settings recommended by Verizon.  So when I tried to explain to someone using the online chat that neither Apple Mail nor Thunderbird (Mozilla) work, I am told that it HAS to be the software.  If so, why does the software work with my G-mail and Exchange accounts? On one of my systems, I left the old settings (incoming.verizon.net and outgoing...) and was able to get my mail pushed.  With the changes in effect, I don't want to have to use a desktop to always check my Verizon mail.
Anyone had similar issues using Verizon mail on a Mac or iDevice?

It certainly sounds like you've had your hands full, Pops1958. Thanks for trying so hard to get your email account set up on your devices. Since you mentioned that your Gmail and Exchange accounts work fine, and the trouble seems to be on multiple Apple products, I would suggest reaching out to our friends at www.verizon.com/contactus for assistance with your Verizon.net email account. We here at Verizon Wireless can help out with any wireless concerns you may have and we want to make sure your cellular device is connecting to our network, but the email provider directly would be best for assistance with new email settings.

  • Sync verizon email

I have a Mac, iPad and iPhone that I want to receive and send email with. I don't wish to change my verizon.net email address. Is there a way I can get all of these devises to sync? I receive email on all of them but when I erase it doesn't sync to the others.

I'm no tech wiz either so I can't help much with the details, but I had the same problem so I asked an apple tech. He set me up so that all of my Verizon email goes thru gmail. I had to open a gmail account but the return address shows Verizon. Now the account on my phone and iPad is gmail but it's really just my verizon mail so it's transparent to everyone but me.  I can now delete and file mail on my devices via gmail. Apparently Verizon only supports pop accounts and instead of upgrading to imap they just give you more space so that you don't need to access and manage your account thru them. This is what the tech told me anyway.

  • Verizon rant from a Mac user

In response to a "2nd Notice - Action Required" letter from Verizon, I changed my e-mail settings on my MBP, iBook, and iPad. None of these devices would send mail with the new settings. So next I tried to use the Verizon InHome Agent program to see if I could find out what I was doing wrong. The program would not open.
So, I counted to ten, poured a stiff drink, and dialed Verizon. I had a lovely conversation with their live-in robot and finally got through to a young human. He informed me that they'd received "a whole lot of calls" informing them that the new settings don't work with Macs and, oh yeah, neither does the InHome Agent program. I noted that Verizon's letter states the old settings will no longer work in September. "So what's going to happen?" I asked. "Oh, I guess they'll figure it out by then," was his response.
The conversation reminded me of the hours and hours I endured on the phone, working my way up the tech team chain, about fifteen years ago when I was trying to get my new DSL service properly configured. Finally, I found a technician who "spoke Mac" and knew how to do it.
Ten percent of all cell phones in use are iPhones. Isn't it time Verizon took this reality into account ?

I agree Stupid Letter if you have made the mail settings change. If you have made the changes ignore the nag! Otherwise see all the links below regarding the same. If I forward pics from my verizon phone to my MacBook I get an empty email message. No pic. If I send pics from my phone to my old PC, then forward that message to my Mac, then I can view the pic. Why don't the pics sent directly to my Mac from the phone display the pics? Thanks.

Look at http://verizon.com/emailsettings . Essentially they have finally dropped the old servers and are requiring you to use the new settings for reqular VERIZON email users.  Similar but slightly different changes were also made for Yahoo/Verizon email users.
