Verizon FIOS Network does not see Airport Express

I recently upgraded to Verizon FIOs and they replaced my Airport Extreme Base Station an Actiontek wireless router. The new Router does not see my 2 Airport express wireless stations that I use for ITunes broadcasting. I tried a hard reset of the basestations with no luck.
I also tried to connect the old Airport Express into the ActionTek. It sees the Express stations but will not connect to the internet (Although I set up for a DHCP connection, it dtill serches for a PPPoE host)
The Verizon FIOs tech support is of no help.
Please help!!!!!!!

You will need to reconfigure your 2 AirPort Express (AX) to join the wireless network provided by the ActionTek.
OR... If you want to replace the ActionTek with your AX, it appears that you will need to ask Verizon to change to the Ethernet MAC address from the MAC address of the ActionTek. Several people have reported that this is necessary.

  • ITunes 10 does not see Airport Express because port 3689 is unavailable

I never had problems with iTunes 9 and Airport Express, but since iTunes 10 the following problem occurs regularly: iTunes starts, but does not "see" Airport Express (AE) as an external speaker. Sometimes it also loses connection after Windows hibernate mode, but that might be another issue.
What I found out is that it is NOT a firewall issue, otherwise it would not work once in a while. What I saw, though, is that TCP port 3689 is sometimes stolen by other apps like Mozilla Thunderbird (TB). I.e. if Thunderbird is started BEFORE iTunes, it might use 3689 as a listening socket. iTunes then cannot see AE until I shut down TB and restart iTunes. This is very annoying and I only found out after many weeks when watching TCP live connections in my personal firewall software.
    Two questions arise:
    1) If listening port 3689 is unavailable, why does iTunes not show any error message? There is absolutely no indication as to why it does not find the external AE loudspeaker. BTW, the AE config programm can connect to the hardware easily.
    2) Even if port 3689 is blocked by another application, Airfoil for Windows works flawlessly with my AE. I can even tunnel iTunes through Airfoil and then listen to music in my living room, even though iTunes does not see AE. Why can a 3rd party program do something which iTunes can't?
There must be a way to smarten up iTunes and fix this annoying bug.

I am running 10.6.8  and airfoil does not see airport express liek it used to.  I am using an older version of airfoil.  Any one have any suggestions so I can get my music to work through my home speakers again?
    thanks

Having a similar problem. iTunes 6.0.2 "sees" the Airport Express but cannot select the speakers associated with the Airport. iTunes 6.0.1 works on a Mac Mini with the same Express. Tried to re-load the system from the CDs but iTunes 6.0.2 still on

  • Airport network form time capsule does not see airport express

    Hello,
I'm rather new, bought my first apple few days ago, it's great. Have been throwing away years by using the blue screen machines
I now have mac mini, today i bought time capsule and an airport express.
time capsule to make my network and the airport express to connect my stereo.
Important: I have no internet connection yet, it will be installed in 10 days.
for now i use a mobile phone connection on the mac mini.
I installed time capsule. time machine works and airport is in the air.
With airport utility i can see the time capsule, but nothing else.
it has been there for a short time, but then time capsule was gone.
i can not find the utility to start installing airport express all over. Maybe i gave the wrong WPA2 password with the first install, but can not find the software to try again.
I placed the a.expr within 1 meter of time capsule for this test.
led of time capsule is green, led of a.expr is amber blinking.
I did a reset of the a.express, no response.
I downloaded the latest a.express client, no difference.
airport is still on. it does not see the a.express.
    how to proceed?
Is it only possible ONCE to setup a.express the right way? I remember answering questions which i can not find anymore.
    Sorry for the long story,
    hope you can help,
    Rik

    oh oh oh oh........ :O
Found it.... before i connected the a.express with time capsule by a wire....does not help!
Solution is to make this wire connection between a.express and mac, then it's possible to reconfigure.
After this wire everything worked in 5 minutes.
    Anyway.... thanks for reading...

  • Windows xp does not see airport express

I run an airport express as a base station in my apartment which works fine both for my iMac and my Palm pda. But a friend is visiting me presently, and her windows laptop, running XP, does not see my wifi station, although it sees others in the area. I tried removing security but that made no difference.
Is there perhaps was something that had to be ticked in the airport base station setup to enable Windows laptops to see Apple wifi? As for example when I send attachments in Apple Mail I have to tick a box to make them Windows-friendly.

I use Airport Express... two Macs and another laptop running Win XP and couldn't get the Win to see the network until I changed to a different card, a D-Link Airplus. I think it was all of $19.95 and works like a charm...
Also, in Airport Admin Utility/Network, make sure you have:
Distribute IP addresses checked and where it says; Share a single IP address using DHCP and NAT, click the pop up menu and select: Use 10.0.1.1 addressing.
Also, her Win might be picking up interference your iMac or Palm doesn't... try a different channel:
By default, the AirPort software automatically selects the best available channel when the base station is plugged in. If your base station is experiencing interference, try changing the channel it uses.
    To select a different channel:
Open AirPort Admin Utility, located in Applications/Utilities.
Select your base station and click Configure.
Enter the base station password if necessary.
Click AirPort, and then choose a new channel from the Channel pop-up menu.

  • New Time Capsule does not see Airport express

    Hi
We purchased A new Time Capsule but are not able to get the existing Airport Expresses to work with it. I tried looking for the AE with AIrport Utility and cant see them.
Any idea how to get these to work with our new Time Capsule 3 TB? My Airpot Utility is Version 6.2
    Thanks
    Jenny

I've reset one of them.  no luck
Suggest that you try the following if you have not already done so.
Power down the AirPort Express (AX) for a few moments
Hold in the reset button and keep holding it in for 10-12 seconds while you plug the AX back in to power
Release the reset button and allow 40-45 seconds for the AX to restart to a slow, blinking amber light
Move the AX near your Time Capsule and computer
Temporarily, connect a spare Ethernet cable from your computer to the AX
Open AirPort Utility to configure the AX
If you do not have a spare Ethernet cable handy, the AX is broadcasting a wireless signal with a name like Apple Network xxxxxx. You must first connect to this network from your computer.
Then, open AirPort Utility. You may be asked to "switch" networks so that AirPort Utility can connect
If you use the recommended Ethernet cable method, you can disconnect the Ethernet cable once the AX has been Updated. Then, move the AX to the desired location.
Configure the second AX like you did the first.
If you have the older "b/g" version of the Express devices, unfortunately you will need to configure the Time Capsule and Express devices to Participate in a WDS network if you need to enable the Ethernet ports on the AX devices.
This will result in the Time Capsule being changed to a "g" wireless router, since WDS will only operate at "g" wireless speeds.

  • Airport Utility scans but does not see Airport Express

    Hi,
When I open Airport Utility it scans looking for devices and finds none. Meanwhile. the yellow light is blinking on AE.
We had Verizon over a week ago to change and set up a new wifi router, as the old one stopped working. The network name didn't change. Access to the web is fine, so there's nothing wrong with Airport. I can't figure it out.
    Thanks,
    Raphael

Try connecting your Mac to the AirPort Express with an Ethernet cable to see if that allows AirPort Utility to see it.

  • MacBook does not see Airport Express

My Macbook does not find my AX when I scan for it using Setup Manager. I used it fine about 3 mos ago just for iTunes, but now I need to use it as a real router and I can't even find it.
I have reset, and reset while plugging in. Still nothing.
Please help me get my AX working!
    Thanks
    Trevor
...ps I am good at giving stars etc

So, I finally tried unplugging and resetting everything. I reset my cable modem, and unplugged my AX, and shut down my computer. Then I did everything fresh from the beginning, making sure that things were plugged in appropriately and it worked! Good news.
But the place where I finally got it working wasn't where I wanted it. Yesterday after it had been working for about a week, I decided to move it to a more central location. ...now I am back where I was when I wrote the first question.
I tried setting it up using the Airport Admin Utility and it responded while I was connected with the ethernet cable, but as when I moved the other end of the cable to the cable modem from my computer, nothing. So, I reset soft and hard. Nothing. Now it just flashes.
Any other ideas? Once it is set, do I just move the ethernet cable like I did, or did I mess that part of it up?
    Thanks so much!

  • My pc does not see airport express?

When setting up my airport express I have a flashing amber light and error message that says utility was unable to find wireless device.

You need the Windows version of Airport Utility to configure an Airport Express. And you need to enable wireless on the computer unless you are connecting the AEX directly to your modem via Ethernet cable.
Did you read through manual that came with the AEX?

  • I told my wireless network to forget two airport expresses so that I could rename them.  Now the network does not see them even when plugged in about 10 feet away from the airport extreme base station.  Does "forget" mean forever?  How to reset?

I told my wireless network to forget two airport expresses 1 1st gen, 1 2nd gen so that I could rename them.  Now the network does not see them even when plugged in about 10 feet away from the airport extreme base station.  The network does recognize a totally new 2nd gen express.  Does "forget" mean forever?  How to reset?

The network does recognize a totally new 2nd gen express.
Then, it sounds like you have already reset the 2nd Gen Express, and now you need to set it up again, like you did the first time. Only, this time, assign the device name that you want to the AirPort Express.
Do NOT use the name that Apple suggests.....which will be something goofy like........Sueswimsf's Red Apple AirPort Express
    Assign a simple name.....something like     2ndGenExpress

  • Not seeing Airport Express after Leopard Upgrade

Just upgraded by macbook to leopard, and now it's not seeing my airport express base station. the card is working fine (sees and connects to other networks) and the base station itself is connected to the internet (iphone can access it). when i turn airport off then on, system preferences will show my network as connected briefly before disconnecting, and after that i can't connect to my network again. airport utility does not see the base station.

Perform a Factory Default Reset on the Express as follows:
    Power off the Express
    Wait a minute
Hold in the reset button first, and keep holding for an additional 10 seconds while you plug the Express back in to power
Release the reset button after the hold period
Allow a full minute for the Express to restart to a slow, blinking amber light
    On the iMac running Leopard.....
Make sure that you have the wireless turned on at the top of the screen so your Mac is connected to the network
Open Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility
When the Express appears in the window, click Continue
Enter a name for the Express and a device password, then click Continue
Select the option to Join your current network, then click Continue
Select the option for the Express to wirelessly join your network and click Continue
Click on the arrow in the drop down box and then select the name of your wireless network, or type in the name of your wireless network
    Wireless Security = WPA/WPA2 Personal
Enter your wireless network password and verify, then click Continue
    Click Update, then click Continue
Close AirPort Utility and wait a minute for the Express to restart. If your settings are correct, you will see a green light.
The Express is now set up

  • Airport Extreme Base station does not 'see' Airport w/Airtunes.  HELP!

I just purchased and installed an Airport Extreme Base startion (802.11n), and it does not 'see' my Airport Extreme with Airtunes. I have already tried re-setting the Airport + Airtunes to the factory settings, but since I installed the new Base station software, I no longer have the Airport Express Sett up assisstant?!?
    What am I doing wrong?

Your Mac won't be able to communicate with your Airport Express until you reconfigure your Airport Express to join the wireless network now being created by your new Airport Base Station.
The "Airport Setup Assistant" has been replaced by the "Airport Utility". You can find that new utility installed in your Mac's Applications->Utilities folder.
    What you should do now:
    1. do an factory default reset of your Airport Express.
    2. plug the Airport Express (temporarily) into power in the same room as your Base Station and your Mac.
    3. on your Mac, run the Airport Utility. It should "see" your Airport Express. Click on the Airport Express icon, click to continue (your Mac will switch wireless networks temporarily), click Continue, and follow the instructions for configuring the Airport Express so that it "joins" the existing wireless network created by your Base Station.

  • Airport Utility does not see Airport Extreme Base Station

Purchased Airport Extreme yesterday at Apple Store to replace old Netgear Router. Wanted wireless network to work with 2 identical HP Laptops running XP with SP3 and 2 iPod touches, and possible future purchases of iPad 2 and Apple TV. Installed Airport Utility software from CD on Dell Studio running Windows 7. Connected Airport Extreme to cable modem and Dell Studio. Ran Airport Utility software to configure Base Station but it did not recognize the Base Station. Base Station had blinking amber light. Did have internet connectivity on Dell Studio, and wireless internet connectivity on 2 iPod touches, and on one HP Laptop. No wireless internet on other HP Laptop. But wireless internet connection was unsecured and Airport Utility did not see Airport Extreme so could not configure it to make it secure. Contacted Apple Customer support. After 30-40 minutes of attempting several different possible fixes only able to use Airport Utility to configure Airport Extreme remotely, wirelessly, from one HP Laptop, not the Dell Studio that is directly connected to the base station. Now that the base station is configured the network is secure. However, second HP Laptop cannot connect to primary wireless network. I created password protected "Guest" network using Airport Utility, and laptop is able to connect to this Guest network. From reviewing forums am now able to configure Airport Extreme with Airport Utility by using "Configure other" on Dell computer. But utility cannot find device by scanning. Would like to find way to (1) have Airport Utility on Windows 7 Dell see Airport Extreme by scanning and not using "configure other," and (2) have 2nd HP Laptop connect to primary network and not "guest' network. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Bob - Thanks so much for your quick reply. I followed your suggestions and, to go into perhaps unnecessary detail, I'll write what I did. I completely disconnected the Airport Extreme Base Station (AEBS) from my computer. I disabled Windows Firewall, uninstalled my anti-virus program, and uninstalled Airport Utility and Bonjour, recycled by cable modem (took out the battery and unplugged it for about 20 seconds), then restarted my computer. After the computer booted up, I verified that windows firewall was disabled, reinstalled Airport Utility and Bonjour, then reconnected the cable connecting the AEBS to the computer (to one of the three ethernet ports, and I tried each of them in case one was faulty) but not to the cable modem as my firewall was disabled and had no anti-virus software. I also reconnected the AEBS power chord. I opened the newly reinstalled Airport Utility software and it did not find the base station. Only when I used "configure other" was I able to access the AEBS. I recycled the modem again, but that did not help. I turned on the firewall, installed anti-virus software, connected the AEBS to the modem, the light turned green, and I was able to access the internet on the primary computer and the wireless network gave me internet access on my laptops. But I was still not able to have my main computer, the one directly connected to the AEBS able to see it, and configure it, without utilizing "configure other."
Also, any idea why one of my laptops can only access the "guest" network? When it attempts to connect to the primary network it will stay on "acquiring network address" for what seems a few minutes, then switch to the "guest" network and connect immediately.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Added AirPort express to extreme but my iPad does not see the express

I wanted to extend my network due to "dead spots" in the house and patio but no change after adding the AirPort express to my extreme. It set up fine and both with a green light but the bars on the iPad have not changed. It still has a slow connection despite being in the same room as the express. I set it up as a N-device (the express) per the instructions to extend a network. Our home phone is 5.8GHz & should not interfere. Apple Tv & iPhone 4 work but did before. What have I missed??

It sounds like the Express is not "extending" Quick check points:
    On the AirPort Extreme
Open AirPort Utility - click Manual Setup
Click the Wireless tab below the icons
Make sure that there is a check mark next to "Allow this network to be extended"
    Update to save any changes
    On the AirPort Express
Open AirPort Utility - click Manual Setup
    Click the Wireless tab
Wireless Mode = Extend a wireless network
Wireless Network Name = Same name as the Extreme network
Make sure there is a check next to "Allow wireless clients"
Security = Same setting as Extreme
    Password = Same as Extreme
    Update to save any changes
If you have a laptop handy, turn off the wireless on the laptop and temporarily connect it to the ethernet port on the Express with an ethernet cable. Open your browser. If your Express is "extending", you will have internet access.
