Yes Beta And RC. It works the same as Vista, with probably some enhancements. Didn't have any issues, but I did not try wireless.

  • Connecting  AirPort Extreme 802.11n directly to my Verizon FiOS service

I want to connect my new AirPort Extreme 802.11n directly to my Verizon FiOS service. The ActionTec wireless router supplied by Verizon died, and I bought an AirPort Extreme as a replacement. When I configured the AirPort extreme, it would not connect to the internet. I have read some posts here that indicate I plug my AirPort Extreme into the ActionTec and I am OK, however the ActionTec is dead.
Are there settings for the AirPort Extreme that are unique for going straight to the internet? What am I missing? My FiOS connection is an Ethernet connection- not coax.
Here is the interesting thing- I have an old AirPort Extreme (the round cone shaped model) that I plugged into the Verizon FiOS Ethernet connection. Everything works fine- I have a wireless connection to the internet. I didn't set anything. So my assumption is that I can make the new AirPort Extreme work with the Verizon FiOS.
Any help will be greatly appreciated, as I do not know if I have the strength to go through the Verizon help desk.

Good news! My problem was solved by calling Verizon FiOS support. The service tech said an AEBS can connect straight to the FiOS Ethernet connection. He broke the "lease" on my connection, had me connect the cable from the wall to my WAN slot, and then he "leased" my network connection to my AEBS. Works like butter now.
He said that the Verizon FiOS network "leases" the network connections every 24 hours or so, and had I left my AEBS connected to the network, it would have pushed the new setting down to the AEBS.
Thanks for all of the input.

  • I have Verizon FiOS service for phone, internet and TV but I only have one TV hooked up for it for just basic cable service with no DVR and no need for widgets.  Can I use an Airport Extreme as my router and not use the FiOs router?

I want to use an Airport Extreme as my router.  I currently have a Verizon FiOS router.  I have Verizon for phone, internet and TV.  However, TV-wise, I just have a basic service for one TV with just a regular box.  No HD, no DVR.  Don't need access to a menu, widgets, on-demand.  Can I eliminate the FiOS Router and just use the Airport Extreme and still have phone and internet?

I know that it will increase my wireless coverage in my house but will it increase the speeds?
Not sure what you are asking here.  The AirPort Extreme is only going to be as fast as the Internet connection that it receives.....which is 75/75. It cannot take a 75/75 connection and make it go any faster.
If you locate the AirPort Extreme in an area where you need more wireless signal coverage, the AirPort Extreme would deliver 75/75 in that area.  But, keep in mind that the AirPort Extreme must connect to the FIOS router using a permanent, wired Ethernet cable connection.
If you are asking if the AirPort Extreme can wirelessly connect to the FIOS modem router, and extend the FIOS wireless network, the AirPort Extreme would not be compatible with a FIOS product for that purpose.

  • Horrible Verizon FiOS service south NJ - slow internet, excuses, I have no where to turn.....

My saga starts around 4pm yesterday, when out of the blue I noticed my download speeds are PAINFULLY slow. Now, mind you, my service has been lightening fast since I signed up in June. I'm on the 25/25 plan and have always recieved full speed. Suddenly, my upload is but a mere 1.5mbps but my UPLOAD has remained at my usual 20+mbps.
I spend over 4 hours on the phone with tech support, we try EVERYTHING and still, the same result on 3 different computers. Same results every time.
A technician comes out and replaced my ONT AND my actiontech router. We check the coax, we check the ethernet lines, everything is good. Still....the same results.
He tells me that I'm the 4th customer today to have similar issues. Also, VOD is useless because my downstream is so choked!!! His other calls for my local area (Williamstown, Sewell, Sicklerville new jersey). He has heard of other techs with similar calls. I ask him when this will be fixed at the central office and he tells me he has no idea. Most likely it is a bad G-PON card he thinks.
Now, let me just say that my tech (his name was Ed) was an AWESOME guy, and I am in no way blaming him. He did everything he could. He just could not tell me when some guy named Carlos that is a high up VZ tech would look into this. He couldn't even tell me if he WOULD look into it. This is insane. I'm paying for service that I CANNOT USE. I am paying for VOD, High Speed 25/25 internet....and they don't have a clue even if their techs will fix this.........
I am so livid right now you have no idea. I am seriously considering going BACK to the evil forces that are Comcast.
Who else could I possibly call about this issue?

could be a similar issue that was in chino hills california last week.
Try running a tracert from one of your computer to google and then post it here. Maybe we can see where the issue is and the techs here on the board are real good at getting things done
go to the command prompt and type
    tracert www.google.com
and post your results so we can see
As for the rest. dont worry the problem WILL be fixed. They probably cant tell you when because they havent been able to track down the problem yet. it could take minutes or it could take weeks. just depends on how long it takes to track down the problem. But once the problem is identified then it will get repaired. But since they dont know the answers yet, they cant give them to you either.

  • Availability of FIOS Service in NE DC

I recently moved into a new townhouse community in Dec. 2011. Shortly thereafter, Verizon contractors visited the site to install the underground wires and outside boxes necessary for Verizon FIOS service. I contacted customer service sometime in late January/early February to inquire about when FIOS or High-Speed Internet service would be available and was told it would happen sometime in late April.
To this day, every time I inquire about service I'm told they can't tell me when it will be available. I can CLEARLY see the Verizon utility boxes from my windows yet customer service never seems to have any answers. Now mind you, since then Comcast has installed their utility boxes, ran their underground wires, and got their service up and running!
This is a large, new townhouse community that would like to have options when it comes to our TV and Internet needs. I'm starting to think that Verizon isn't interested in acquiring any of our business since information provided is little to none. I'm trying my best to wait on these services to become available (without getting stuck in a 2 year contract with Comcast) but it's going on 6 months and I need service! Any information about the potential delivery date of services would be greatly appreciated (and please don't tell me to sign up for service notifications; been there, done that).

If FIOS internet is available, but not TV, it is more likely the VZ does not have a franchise agreement with your city and has nothing to do with VZ investing in head-end equipment.

  • Verizon Fios and Airport not working. PLEASE HELP!

Ok, so I have been trying to get my Airport Extreme and Express to work with my new verizon fios service for about 5hours now. incrediably frustrating becasue with my old service provider it took about 5min.
Here is what i need to do.
extend the fios network using my airport extreme. I need to wirelessly print and use it in my office which is far away from the Verizon MI24WR router. cords are not an option. I need this to be wireless.
I also need to extend my network downstairs to my airport express in order to use itunes to wirelessly listen to music on my speakers.
I have tried other things described in message boards but I need both the extreme and express to be wirelessly connected to the verizon router. Is this possible and if so how! Please explain in the simplest of terms.
I am beyond frustrated! PLEASE HELP!

  • Verizon Fios Wireless Compatibility Issues with MacBook Pro

    Good afternoon,
We have Verizon Fios as our internet provider. We both have PCs that are connected to the router and my husband has a laptop that connects both via an ethernet cable and wirelessly. We do not have any problems connecting our PCs and the laptop to the Verizon Fios service.
In December of 2007, I purchased a MacBook Pro. For several months, my ability to connect wirelessly with my MacBook Pro was great. However, beginning around March of 2008, my wireless connection began to become sporadic. Now, my ability to connect wirelessly to Fios varies based upon where I am in our home. When in the same room as the router or in the room above the router, my connection is great. I have no issues. In all other rooms, I either cannot connect wirelessly or the connection is sporadic at best.
I have spoken with Apple Customer Service and Verizon Fios Customer Service on numerous occasions. My last discussion resulted in the service representative telling me that there are inherent problems with connecting Fios and Apple and I would either have to switch to all Fios components or all Apple components. As long as I have both components connected to each other, I will continue to experience problems.
Per Verizon, we upgraded our firmware and changed our security settings. These changes did not help. Per an Apple sales clerk, I purchased an Airport Express Base Station. When I arrived home and called customer service to help me connect it, I was told that it would not help my situation.
Please tell me there are other options. The whole point of having a laptop is so I'm not restricted to one location.
    Thank you,

I am having the same problem, although we have been experiencing the problem with a Windows machine as well. Sporadic internet is very frustrating! Right now it's working fine two stories above the router on my MBP, but I'm constantly checking the airport meter to see if I've lost my connection. 20 minutes ago I had nothing. It does seem to work consistently if I'm in the room next to the router. Hopefully Verizon comes up with a solution.
You wouldn't happen to be having Kernel Panics when waking your MBP from sleep, too, would you?

  • Verizon FiOS Early Termination Fee -- Salesman AND Manager lied

In May 2013, I purchased a house in Dallas and called Verizon to have FiOS installed. Knowing there was a chance I would have to relocate for work in the coming months, I insisted to the salesman that I did not want a long-term contract. However, he ASSURED me that if I relocated to an area that did not have FiOS coverage, I could walk away from the contract without paying the early termination fee, so I signed.
Of course, I ended up moving several months later to Michigan (no FiOS coverage) and Verizon predictably balked at letting me out of the contract. After explaining myself to a customer service rep, I was promised a call back from a manager. A couple weeks passed without a call, so I followed up. To my surprise, Verizon actually had a record of the previous call and stated that my file had a note indicating a manager was supposed to call me back. The manager was as polite as could be, so I explained the situation and she said, "No problem, we'll waive the fee; just turn in your equipment." So I thanked her and had my equipment returned and thought everything was closed out.
However, since then, I have been getting bills stating that I still owe the early termination fee. I've made numerous attempts now to sort it out but every time I do, I just get lost in Verizon's labyrinth of a phone system, listening to blaring and garbled music while endlessly waiting on hold. Today, I was told that the only two ways out of the early termination fee are a death certificate or military status. If that's the case, fine, but that doesn't explain why no one at this company appears to be synced up or on the same page. Just every man for himself, tell the customer whatever you want, lie if you need to make a sale and just say whatever it takes to get them off the phone.
What I owe at this point in time is just over $100, but I will continue to fight on principle alone. What's funny is that I really liked FiOS and wish they had it in Michigan, but after this, you can forget about it. I'm done with Verizon's products and services permanently. Verizon has been put on my corporate black list along with the {please keep your posts courteous}.

Sorry for bumping this but I am having a somewhat similiar issue.
My apartment complex has a dedicated Verizon FiOS rep, and when I was considering Verizon or sticking with Bright House, one of the concerns I had was signing a 2 year contract and then if I had to move in a year to somewhere where FiOS was not available, being stuck with the early termination fee. My "rep" assured me that if I moved somewhere where FiOS was not available that the early term fee would be waived.
Well fast forward a year to the present time where I am in a situation right now where I am going to need to cancel my Verizon FiOS service at the beginning of April because the place I am moving to (right down the road) is not wired for FiOS. If I could I would transfer my service over because I actually like it, but unfortunately I don't have a choice. (and this place is the only apartment I can really afford given my current salary and everything)
Long story short, been talking with a couple people at Verizon and have heard everything from I have no choice but to pay it to "If you just downgrade to phone service for a month then call and cancel, you don't have to pay the early term fee". (And I wrote down the rep's name, date and time of when THIS call took place since as someone who works in a quality assurance/compliance dept at a call center, I know these calls can easily be pulled)
But now I can't just cancel it like I was originally told because my new place right now the street is not wired for FiOS.
Really, really aggrevating and bad customer service all around with this. Which way is it??

  • QuickVPN connecting to RV180W behind Verizon FIOS Westell router?

I have Verizon FIOS service which has coax from their ONT to my primary (Verizon) router, a Westell 9100EM.  I have my own secondary router, a Cisco RV180W, connected to a LAN port on the Westell.  The Westell acquires the public IP via DHCP and its subnet is 192.168.1.x.  The Cisco router has a static IP assignment and then serves as the gateway for its own subnet 192.168.130.x.  Devices connecting to either LAN have full internet access.
I would like to establish a VPN connection from remote locations to the Cisco RV180W.  I have been trying to accomplish this using QuickVPN which is installed on my laptop (and which I can use to successfully connect to a different Cisco router on an entirely different network – meaning the laptop itself is not somehow blocking QuickVPN).
I have been trying to establish the QuickVPN connection to the RV180W for the last several days, without success (trying to forward ports from Verizon router to Cisco router).  I finally spoke to Cisco telephone support yesterday and they told me it will never work if the RV180W has a non-routable IP address assigned to its WAN interface / is double-NAT'd (which is the case in my setup).  So question #1:  is this true or is there some way to work around this limitation, given my setup / Westell router?
Question #2:  is there another VPN client software (like for example Shrewsoft VPN Client) that WILL be able to connect to the RV180W, given my current configuration?
Question #3:  If #1 or #2 don't have easy answers … how can I change my configuration to enable the RV180W to support QuickVPN?  I also spoke to Verizon about potentially bridging their router.  They tell me they don't support this so I'm on my own in terms of trying it – and depending on what I do it may negatively impact some of my FIOS services (on the TVs).  But if anyone has done this I would love to hear about it!  I'm also wondering if putting the RV180W into the Westell's DMZ would help anything?
I initially set things up as they are because I didn't really trust whatever router Verizon might install and didn't want my home network connected to its LAN.  I still feel that way, and believe my current setup offers better security for my own devices.  But nevertheless I need VPN access to my LAN so I need to do something!  And am open for any suggestions!
    Thanks in advance …
    Adam

    Hi Adam,
question #1 In case of double-NAT very often Quick VPN cannot establish a connection. This can be due to:
-firewall, antivirus settings of the PC
    -Windows OS of the PC
-correct port forwarding of all necessary ports
-IPsec pass-through support on the device infront of the router.
Regarding the PC part -Quick VPN is really simple software, which uses the IPsec services of Windows. If you tested recently the Quick VPN connection from this PC and it works, we can assume Windows is just fine
Regarding the Port forwarding part, the needed ports to be forwarded to RV180 are
UDP 500, UDP 4500, TCP 443 and ESP (or the option IPsec pass-through to be enabled)
Putting RV180 in the DMZ zone is a good idea. DMZ zone will allow all ports to be open for RV180W, so you can be sure that traffic is not filtered. As RV180 has a firewall as well, your LAN will be not exposed to risk
Question #2: Shrew VPN is working fine with RV180. It does not rely on Windows services, so it is more likely to work than Quick VPN. It requires the same port forwarding rules, or RV180 in the DMZ zone. Though it requires more time to configure, as a stable client, I like it more than Quick VPN. Attached is configuration instructions
Question #3: Quick VPN requires only a user to be configured on the router and remote management to be activated on port 443. Nothing else can be done.
If you want to dig into as why Quick VPN is not connecting, I would advise to use Wireshark. You can install it and start it on the PC with Quick VPN and capture packets when starting the VPN client.
ISAKMP (you need to type the word in the filter menu) packets show the negotiation process. Once it is established you have to see only ESP (you need to type the word in the filter menu) packets sent to the public IP, that you are using for connection. If you don't see any ESP packets that's mean your PC is filtering it.
From the menu of RV180 Administration - Diagnostic - Capture Packets, click on Packet trace on the WAN port and after that start the quick VPN. Once it shows the error you may stop the capturing. You can open the file with Wireshark again. This option capture all traffic arriving on the WAN port and it will allow you to see if something is filtered by the router in front.
Usually the providers devices are stopping ESP packets. So in the filter menu type ESP and see if there is any packets.
    Hope it can help!
    Regards,
    Kremena

  • Problem with Time Capsule connection to Verizon Fios modem.

I recently switched to Verizon Fios service. I connected my Time Capsule into the Verizon modem and since then the Time Capsule light has blinked Amber.
Is there anything unique to the Verizon Fios Modem that is causing the Time Capsule to blink Amber?
    Thanks

run airport utility, it should tell you why the light is blinking amber. In all likelihood, it is because you have double NAT. turn off NAT in your time capsule. you may also want to access your verizon router using 192.168.1.1 and turn off the wireless radio. no need to have two wireless networks pumping out signals. while in the router settings, you can lower the firewall too, assuming you have adequately protected the TC.

  • Bad experience with Verizon Fios Internet and Customer Service

I had an extremely bad experience with Verizon Fios Internet service and I will never use Verizon again.
In August 2014, I called and installed the Verizon Fios Internet and phone bundle. I asked the customer agent several times if I will be charged anything before the installation of the Internet and phone service. She said, 'No, we will only start charging after the Internet and phone are installed at your apartment'. I went to the store and picked up the router and phone and installed it at home by myself. The router did not work. I called Tech support and they said it will take several days for another available agent to come and look into the issue. I decided to discontinue the service and closed the account that same night.
At the end of the month, I received a bill of $80 of activation fee for the internet service. Nothing was ever activated, my internet router did not work, and I got charged an activation fee for a service that I did not even start using. From August to December, I called customer service over 10 times and some of them said they will waive it while the others said it's a non-refundable activation fee. One lady said, 'Ma'am, the activation fee starts when you placed the order, the warehouse received it and packed the router in the boxes....' Isn't that ridiculous? If that's the case, please ask all your customer representative to say a clause before new customers open their account: Are you aware that you will be charged a non-refundable activation fee once you open the account regardless of whether or not you use the service or not.
So after 3 months (November 2014), I decided to get out of all these troubles and paid off my $80 activation fee. They put the bill in the collection agency and I called them and paid the overdue balance. Then in December 2014, I received a statement saying I have a $3.11 overdue balance. The collection agency told me that they will charge me for the whole activation fee and a $3 transaction fee for the transaction. So now Verizon came back and said I owed them the $3 because I paid the collection agency their transaction fee.
I am very disappointed and furious about the whole Verizon operating system. Charging a customer for an activation fee for a service s/he has not consumed or used does not make any business sense. In addition, they do not know how to coordinate with the collection agency on overdue bills. Give the customer a heads-up that they will be charged a transaction fee on top of the overdue balance, and that transaction fee does not count towards clearing the balance.
I have completely lost my confidence in Verizon albeit the many good feedback from my friends.

    Hi crystallau52,
Sorry you are having difficulty. An agent with access to your account will reach out to you directly by email, private message in the Forums and/or the billing telephone number on your Verizon account for more information or to help you resolve your issue.

  • How To Use Your Own Router with Out Loosing Verizon's FIOS Services

How to use your own router with Verizon’s FIOS Service
First, you need a basic understanding of how FIOS works but unfortunately there are two types of FIOS systems out there. All of the systems utilize a fiber optic cable to bring TV, phone and internet to your location over one optic cable. In addition these systems provide interactivity including widgets, remote DVR, movies on demand and so forth via an IP (Internet Protocol) signal.  Your STB (Set Tip Box) requires both a video and IP signal. The IP signal is necessary for all of the aforementioned interactivity.  The fiber cable terminates at the Optical Network Terminal or ONT for short.  The ONT converts the optics into a digital signal that can be utilized by ones equipment.  From the ONT your video, phone and internet are provided to the location.  This is where things can differ as the internet signal can be provided via a coaxial (MoCA or Multimedia over Coax Alliance) or RJ45 Cat5 (Ethernet) cable.  It is important to identify and understand the differences of these two setups.  In my case I have my internet entering via Ethernet cable, which in my humble opinion makes things a heck of a lot easier.
How does one tell the difference? In most cases it’s rather simple; just look at the Verizon’s router WAN (Wide Area Network) Port.  Does it have a RJ45 (Ethernet) or Coax (TV cable Cord) going to it? If the router’s WAN port doesn’t have a coaxial connector then one will need to convert the MoCA signal into a usable Ethernet signal that routers understand. The easiest way is to use Verizon’s router as a bridge. In this method the Verizon’s router simply converts the signal and passes it along to your own router. The challenge is to try to maintain the interactivity that FIOS TV provides. Because of this one needs to supply the IP routed signal back to the FIOS router.  There are multiple methods for doing this and I would recommend investigates which one make the most sense.
In my particular case the IP signal was provided by Ethernet.  Again there are various ways of installing one’s own router. The hardest is to utilize Verizon’s router as a bridge.  This setup requires configuring Verizon’s router as a bridge and also creating a VLAN (Virtual Local Area Networks). In addition one needs to set up their own router so it will work with the various routing tables and networks. For me this is too complex for the average person and it can be difficult to trouble shoot if something goes wrong. Please consider that Verizon will not support utilizing third party routers.
The easier method is to request an Ethernet signal (if you don’t already have one) from their ONT.  I would highly recommend getting your hands on a NIM or Network Interface Module. This device is used to convert Ethernet to Coaxial so it can be fed back to your STBs.  These can be purchased online and Verizon technicians can be a valuable resource with these sorts of acquisition.  At the very least they can point you to the right direction.  Once you have a NIM the rest is rather simple.
Log into the current Verizon Router.
Located the router’s MAC address and copy it down.
Go to the port forwarding section and copy down the Applied Rules.
    Example:
    Network Computer/Device: 192.168.1.100:63145
Application & Ports Forward:  Application UDP Any -> 6347
Note: There may be up to three entries for each one of your Set Top Boxes.
Look at your current device list, typically found on the home screen. Copy down your STB MAC and IP address.
    Example:
    IP-STB1
    Connection Type: Ethernet
    * IP Address: 192.168.1.100
    IP Address Allocation: DHCP
    *MAC Address:                07:73:fFe:ad:8b:3f
    * Things you will need to write down
Go to the network section and look for the main Ethernet connection.  Select this and then select more setting, typically found at the bottom. Release the current lease.
    Remove the Verizon router
    Install your router
Connect the NIM by plugging in an Ethernet from one of the routers LAN (Local Area Network) ports to your NIM. Then connect the coax cable, the same cable that was used by Verizon router.
Set you DHCP routing IP pool to accommodate Verizon’s STB IP’s  (note their IP’s start at 192.168.1.100)
Go to DHCP section and reserve the STB IP’s by inserting the IP’s and MAC addresses. This shall ensure that nothing else utilizes the same IPs as the STBs thereby preventing IP address conflict.
Add the port forwards from Step 5 above.
Clone Verizon’s Mac Address utilizing the info from step 2
Finish setting up the router in typical fashion.
Unplug and re-plugin your STB’s and test functionality.  It’s best to try using a widget or Movie on demand function.
Note: if the new router can net get an internet signal contact Verizon’s support and have them release the IP and reset the ONT.
EVERYTHING should be working at this point.

3 Go to the port forwarding section and copy down the Applied Rules.
    Example:
    Network Computer/Device: 192.168.1.100:63145
Application & Ports Forward:  Application UDP Any -> 6347
Note: There may be up to three entries for each one of your Set Top Boxes.G
Your display obviously is not like mine as mine does not dosplay the port associated with the ip address
whatever, the STB's start at 192.168.1.100 and icement by 1 for each
the port addr's will be 63145 alo incrementing by 1
there is 1 entry for each in my pf list
however each ip addr also has a port entry starting at 35000 also incrementing by 1 for each ip addr
For some unknow reason these are duplicated e.g I appear to have 11 entries exaactly the same for each stb and as the fios services rules have no action switc there is nowhere to delete the extraneous garbage.
Why do you clone the mac addr??
