Verizon FIOS TV/Internet and ESPN

I guess this really belongs here and not in the "Off Topic" community:
I contacted FIOS tech support two times now for issues connecting to ESPN to watch sports online.
The first time the issue was due to account activation.  Now my first problem with this is the fact that I allowed the tech, or "agent" as Verizon calls them, to take control of my computer, I know my own fault.  The tech proceeded to install a Verizon software package without first asking me.  I immediately asked why the software was installed and the tech claimed it was needed to "activate" my account. I then asked if it could be removed and the tech said "yes".  Now I would question why a software package, that can be removed, was needed to activate my account?  I will say that miraculously the issue was resolved....or so I thought.
So I tried to watch ESPN sports online again today, same computer as before, and...oh no it didn't work!  I contacted Verizon support, yet again, about the same issue.  The tech again wanted to take control of my computer, I told him repeatedly that I was not going to allow it because of my previous experience, and after about 3 minutes of me saying "NO" he finally gave up asking.  He kept saying he wanted to check the browser settings which I told him have not changed since the issue was previously "resolved".  His suggestion was to try a different browser.  I use Firefox v12 with Adobe Flash Player v11.4, but unfortunately I removed IE and do not have another browser installed.  He kept pushing me to install Google Chrome, which I would not and did not do, so I guess it was a good thing that I did not give him control of my computer.  I do have another computer with Firefox v9 installed, with a much older version of Flash Player, so I gave it try.  Miraculously it worked so I pointed the finger at the latest version of Flash Player as the culprit.  The tech then began to go on a rant saying "See I told you it was a browser setting and not an account issue".  I'm not sure if he learned that at the Verizon customer service training seminar in New Delhi but he's a keeper...lol.  So I then decided to fix the issue, by trying previous versions of Flash Player, and still could not login to the ESPN website.  Hmmmmm?
So after a little investigation I discovered that the problem DOES lie on the Verizon side.  It appears that if you try to access the ESPN webpage by selecting a show to watch from the TV Listings page, you are redirected to a Verizon, FLASH, popup that asks for your username/password, after entering your username/password the login fails and you are redirected to yet another Verizon, FLASH, popup and asked to login again.  This creates a continuous loop and you will not be able to login.  HOWEVER, if you access the network from the ESPN main page, you are redirected to a Verizon webpage that asks for your username/password and you can login successfully.
So I ask Verizon the following two questions:
1. Are your techs, or "agents" as you call them, trained in such customer service practices or do they take it upon themselves to install software without first asking customer permission and berating customers who refuse to give them access to their personal property?
2.  If I can find this simple login issue with YOUR software, why can't you find it and fix it?
I've always had Time Warner cable, and Internet access, before moving to a no Time Warner area and I've never had a complaint against their tech support or customer service.  Verizon should take a lesson from this.  Oh and by the way, you can login to ESPN through the TV Listings page on a Time Warner network.

No idea about the rest of it, but I've seen that infinite login redirect before.  I am pretty sure it's a bug in ESPN's site, not with Verizon ... and clearing cache/cookies seems to fix it.  What was happening, if I recall correctly, is that it was remembering you were logged out and so it never tried to log you in again - it just sent you back to the login page.

  • Verizon FIOS, Time Capsule, and Airport Express - How to Extend Network

OK, I just got Verizon FIOS (TV, Internet, and phone). Don't care for the wireless router that is required to be used with it (want 802.11n and Time Capsule). I turned of the wireless on the Verizon FIOS router and installed a Time Capsule in Bridge Mode, which is how the Verizon rep told me to install it. As I understand it, the Verizon FIOS router is still handling DHCP, NAT, etc. I would like to extend the wireless network to reach some dead spots in my house. I have read that the Airport Express can be used to extend a wireless network from an Airport Extreme or Time Capsule, but it appears that I need to set up a WDS with the Time Capsule as the base station, which is apparently not possible on the Time Capsule in Bridge Mode. I am desperately seeking any advice on how to use Verizon FIOS, my Time Capsule, and extend the wireless network to reach the farther corners of the house. I am using a Macbook and a Thinkpad as well as an iPhone on the wireless network with a Dell desktop connected to the Time Capsule via Ethernet. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Before I switched, I had Cox Cable with a Buffalo wireless router and it had great range. Now I seem to be in a worse situation from a wireless perspective with higher TV and Internet quality. Thanks in advance.

If you have an AirPort Express(n), you can configure it to "extend a wireless network". This is a more efficient way to add additional wireless coverage (and much easier to configure than a WDS arrangement).
However, if you have an older "b/g" AirPort Express, you must use the WDS configuration method with this device and the Time Capsule if you want to increase your wireless coverage.

  • Verizon Fios Slow internet no support from from verizon customer services

It looks like nobody seems to care bout your problem as long as they have your money.
Here I'm almost a year with verizon FIOS internet and cable.
Has not been able to enjoy for a whole month,  Been calling verizon for resolution almost every single night.   Verizon send disgrunted technician to your house that do nothing, only check cable and signal when it has been stated on their system that it has been checked at least 60 times in the last 10 month.
You request them to send somebody to check your ONT and they seems to ignore your request.
when you try to cancel they give you the run around even if you are not in a contract as ME.    I'm not in a 1 year or 2 year contract.  What I'm recieving from verizon cannot be called a service.   Why is so difficult for me to cancel this horrendous nightmare so i can go to provider who want my money.

  • Verizon Fios - Airport Extreme AND Airport Express drop IP Address

    Hi everyone,
I am absolutely BEGGING for help here! I am so frustrated with Verizon Fios that I can hardly take it. The scenario - the crummy Actiontec router that Verizon provided us when we got service 10 months ago shot craps recently. So, I got out my Airport Extreme to see if that would work. After 30 minutes of tech support I got it working, only to have all kinds of trouble with what they told me after FURTHER hours of tech support, was that my router was dropping the IP address.
So, knowing that I can't possibly be the only Verizon customer using an Apple router, I thought it was the Airport Extreme unit itself. I went out and got an Airport Express, and again, I am resetting my router or calling Verizon tech support at least once a day, if not more, to break the lease and get a new IP address. It's killing me. I can't live life like this.
Can ANYONE help me figure out how to get this scenario to work without having to purchase another crappy, ugly Actiontec router? I don't have FIOS TV, just internet. I can't tell you how much I would appreciate the help. It's driving me insane!!
    Thanks so much in advance.

It appears that I am in same boat. I got FIOS last October and it worked seamlessly with my Airport Extreme/Express network for months. All of a sudden, we couldn't get to the internet after returning from vacation in late August. Reset, reconfigured, and tinkered with the Airport extreme and our computers, but could not get out to internet even though we could still print and see each other over the airport network. Contacted Verizon and they told me that they do not support the airport and that we have to use their Actiontec router for Internet access. Told them that we had been using our Airport, connected to their Actiontec, to access the Internet for months seamlessly and they said that that was not something they would recommend/support and that we had to go directly through their wireless router to get Internet support. I asked if they changed something in the last week that would prevent access and they would not confirm.
We also found that my son's older desktop with 802.11b wireless USB connection and MS OS can't even get out using the Actiontec router directly. Verizon site talks to 802.11b not necessarily being supported, but we had no issues when we were routing everything through the Airport. I just don't want to invest in all kinds of new network devices when we were fine until something happened over a weekend.
I am playing around with buying the latest Airport extreme (ours is a 802.11g model) to see if that works, but Verizon refuses to acknowledge that it's a viable solution and apologized to us that we have to switch between their network router and our Airport router to do routine printing, play music, etc., but they were not open to helping us prevent running multiple networks, either.
Obviously, this is unacceptable customer service, but Verizon techs that I spoke to do not feel that they have any obligation to support us with re-establishment of connectivity that we got with our original service. It sounds from this thread that other folks were getting disconnected or can't establish connectivity over the summer. Am wondering what Verizon is doing that is causing this and who else is getting impacted. Also wondering if upgrading to the latest Airport will help.

  • Verizon Fios business internet speeds. Higher then 150/35?

Does anybody know if Verizon offers anything higher then 150/35 business internet speeds? I called them on the phone and all I got from them is "Oh I don't know if there is anything higher you'll have to call this number" and It will not let me call that number if I don't have an account number. So does anybody on here know if they have anything higher then 150/35 for a fios line. I mean I would think they would its fiber?

No at the moment this is the highest bandwith they offer, not available in all areas even where fios is,it has to be ordered as a stand alone,no bundles offered, would require you to upgrade your ONT,and router.if you already have Fios.
You can now add it to bundles in those area that have it.

  • Fios remote control and actor info

When I push info on my remote control it only gives me a description of the movie or show, but it doesn't tell me who the artists are.  This was one feature I liked from my previous service which was Direct TV.  Does anyone know if such a feature is available on the FIOS remote control??

How many times are you pressing the Info button? If you press it a second time you will usually get more information, and if the info will not fit completely in that display a third push of the info button will get you everything that FiOS has available. It is not always as complete as you would like but my experience is that it generally is now fairly good (much better than several years ago).

  • SMTP Settings when NOT On Verizon FIOS

I've had an ongoing issue with the SMTP settings in Microsoft Outlook.  When I'm ON FIOS I have to check "My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication".  When I take my laptop to work or somewhere NOT on FIOS I have to uncheck that setting.  Is there an alternate to outgoing.verizon.net that I can use the same bloody settings on no matter where I'm at?!??!!  Thanks!
    Doc

I have never had to change my SMTP settings when leaving the Verizon Network. Server Requires Authentication should always have to be checked. I can send via a client on any connection with my settings this way.
I have no answer either, but I agree with somegirl, I have never had to change any settings when I am off the Verizon network. I have a weekend house in AT&T DSL territory, plus free wi-fi access via a local cable ISP, and my normal settings with authentication turned on work fine on them for sending and receiving emails.Never any email issues other than I had to get AT&T to allow me to use a non-AT&T outgoing email server while using their network. And when I have used wi-fi access in hotels it has always worked just fine too.
    To the original poster:
Probably not at all related, but what port do you have defined for the outgoing server? I used to have port 25 but changed that to 587 some months ago as Verizon supposedly has begun the process of changing from port 25 to 587 in an effort to reduce spam generated on the Verizon network.
This is certainly a mystery to me. I hope you will let us know what the resolution is once you find it.

I don't see one yet . It would be nice see a forum that just deal with customers various q & amd matters with the various fios features and how they work etc. I know the FIOS triple play , several people I know that have it , several months and still only have tiny clue on how the features there are, even using ch helper 131 and other verizon help chsnnels, plus there are tech feature info they need to know and more

    I miss my Direct TV...
I have no idea what you mean with your questions. But besides that, you need to go to the FiOS TV Technical Assistance forum and post whatever your issue is there, hopefully more clearly than you have here (or even better, search on Favorites first before posting, or take a look at the first thread listed in the "Top Kudoed Posts" area for that forum).
This is not the correct forum for asking FiOS questions, this forum is for making suggestions about the Community or the forums in the Community (as the title of this forum says).

  • FiOS Triple Freedom and cable boxes

I was under the impression(From talking to the local seller) That the bundle would be 99.99 for the 2 years and they would not charge me monthly for the 2 cable boxes I origanally said I needed. That this would be included. I have been being charged and I was wondering if I just mis-interpreted. I just want to be sure before I call, does nayone have a clue?
    Thanks

I guess it would depend on whether there was some special being offered in your area. The standard package is for the Triple Freedom to include phone, internet, and TV, but no STBs are included in that package. I have the Triple Freedom on a two year plan and I pay separately for my STBs.

  • I have Verizon FiOS service for phone, internet and TV but I only have one TV hooked up for it for just basic cable service with no DVR and no need for widgets.  Can I use an Airport Extreme as my router and not use the FiOs router?

I want to use an Airport Extreme as my router.  I currently have a Verizon FiOS router.  I have Verizon for phone, internet and TV.  However, TV-wise, I just have a basic service for one TV with just a regular box.  No HD, no DVR.  Don't need access to a menu, widgets, on-demand.  Can I eliminate the FiOS Router and just use the Airport Extreme and still have phone and internet?

I know that it will increase my wireless coverage in my house but will it increase the speeds?
Not sure what you are asking here.  The AirPort Extreme is only going to be as fast as the Internet connection that it receives.....which is 75/75. It cannot take a 75/75 connection and make it go any faster.
If you locate the AirPort Extreme in an area where you need more wireless signal coverage, the AirPort Extreme would deliver 75/75 in that area.  But, keep in mind that the AirPort Extreme must connect to the FIOS router using a permanent, wired Ethernet cable connection.
If you are asking if the AirPort Extreme can wirelessly connect to the FIOS modem router, and extend the FIOS wireless network, the AirPort Extreme would not be compatible with a FIOS product for that purpose.

  • Airport Extreme and Fios.... I had fios hooked up today (Internet and phone only)... Want to my aebs as the primary and wireless network. Would someone be able to provide step by step instructions because I cannot figure it out. Thanks!

I had fios hooked up today and am about to rip my hair out... Would someone be able to share step-by-step instructions for connecting my airport extreme base station. I want to use it as my primary for everything including wireless (fios is Internet and phone only ). ThNk you in advance.

Thanks for taking the time to detail that. I think I have it, but I have a few things to clarify.
    1. This negates the need for the Westell Series3 9100EM, because, the "router" mentioned in the line "Hook an Ethernet cable from the ONT to the router's WAN jack" is the Apple Extreme Base Station (or other suitable router), right?
    2. I haven't got the TV portion of FIOS service, although I may add that at some point, so in my case the COAX to NIM (and the NIM for that matter) aren't needed, right?
I see a couple of issues. One, I have COAX run for the current connection. And, two, Verizon would need to come out again to do the CAT5 configure. Can the CAT5 run be that long and still be effective? Maybe the Westell router could be used to extend the wireless network? And, if FIOS TV is added could it be used in place of the NIM (since I already have the COAX and the Westell at the back of the TV)?
Regardless, I REALLY appreciate your help. On a side note, it's interesting that the NIM takes both the COAX and CAT5.

  • Verizon FIOS what a horrible experience!

God I feel so appalled and disappointed at Verizon FIOS beyond disbelieve.
I had been a Verizon customer for several years and sadly the customer service has gone down the drain in recent years. My biggest dilemma started after some of the channels I paid for stopped working for an unknown reason. After spending several hours with technical support and tearing my rooms apart, flipping my five (5) set- up boxes upside down in order read the serial #’s to Verizon support so that they can do something with my account, they finally told me they needed to dispatch a technician to fix the issue. While I was on the phone with support and checking the information I realized they had been charging me for 7 set-up boxes and I only have 5???
Anyway, a technician showed up in my house a couple of days later and ran some tests and said the problem was the outside wiring so he went outside to fix it. He got three of my boxes fixed but the one located at the attic (my son’s room) he could not fix. He said the issue was the small COAX to RJ45 converter box my son was using to connect his desktop computer and X-Box to the internet. Mind you this small converter box was given to me by Verizon about 5 years ago so I don’t have to run Ethernet cables to the attic for Internet access and it had been working just fine for all these years. After a long testing period with the set-up box in the attic the technician came to the conclusion the issue was actually the set-up box itself and therefore he replaced it. What really bothers me is he never put the little converter box back and instead took it with him, leaving my son without Internet?
The following day I realized only 4 of my 5 set-up boxes were working and after tracing cables outside my home I found out the technician changed the existing coax splitter with a 4 Way Coax Splitter instead therefore leaving the cable for my fifth set-up box hanging (disconnected)??.
So after calling Verizon again and after a very long phone call they finally agreed to dispatch a technician to correct the problem with the fifth set-up box. Needless to say a new technician came to my home and despite me requesting them to bring back my son’s little converter box, they never returned it, leaving me with a very unhappy, upset, and Internet-less teenager at home.
Few days later I accessed my Verizon FIOS account to check my bill and make the payment for the new month, but just to notice my bill doubled?? It was a bit over ~$549.03 and I had no idea why?? So I called Verizon AGAIN and after escalating this issue to the manager (Sue employee ID: {Edited for privacy}) she informed me my account was closed and a new account was opened?? (without notifying me?). After she reviewed my account she informed me, several times, my current balance was $0 (zero) because I was given a credit of $544 for the times Verizon was charging me for extra set-up boxes and because they have changed my account without notifying me. She said my online account was not in sync with their database and this is why I was only able to see the ~$549.03 balance, even though her database showed a zero balance. She kindly promised to call me back as soon as the new online account is in sync with their databases so she can inform me that everything has been taken care of. She also said it would only be a couple of days before she can call me…
Needless to say I never received a call back from her and it has been more than two weeks now.
To top it all up I received a bill from FIOS today (4/1/2013) where Verizon is charging me $979.50???
I called Verizon support immediately (around 9:17 PM EST) and after the customer service rep. (a lady with initials MC) could not figure out my bill, I requested to speak with the manager. So she placed me on hold and politely told me she would find a manager who could assist me. What she didn’t realize is she did not MUTE her phone and I heard how disrespectfully she made fun of me, my tone of voice, my accent and how laud she was laughing with her co-workers at my expense???.
After all the “fun” she had at my expense she came back to the line to “politely” tell me she was still looking for a manager…
Anyway, finally she put Tracy {Edited for privacy} (Desk ID: {Edited for privacy}) on the line whom claimed to be the manager, but now I am not sure anymore. She took a quick glance at my account and after I told her I just want Verizon to remove their equipment from my home because I just had it with them, she asked me if I could give her until tomorrow noon to check my account again and get back to me because she was seeing charges in my “NEW” account for new equipment and labor costs???
As you can tell I am extremely frustrated and disappointed at Verizon FIOS because not only they are playing with my bill, my account, my servicers, but they are also disrespectful, making fun at their customers who just happened to call and ask for help with their bill. This has become a nightmare for me and I just want Verizon FIOS to come and pick up their boxes so I could go back to some other service provider that could at least treat me with respect, they way customers should be treated, after all we are the ones who PAY for their services.
I am also afraid since Verizon FIOS doesn’t seem to care about anything they may push to rip me off and attempt to collect the $979.50 they are now charging me so I am seeking for legal help. If anyone knows how I should best handle this situation please let me know.
    Regards,
    Angel.

    Dear AnneS,
I don't need to go to any other "private" forum to request what is my right to challenge my outrageous bill.
I had asked Verizon to remove their equipment from my home because I am closing this account.
Fortunately I am now working with consumer protection support to challenge the incredibly high bill Verizon is still attempting to collect from me.
    Angel.

  • How can I get my Cisco wireless router to wirelessly connect to my Verizon Fios Actiontec router?

I have Verizon Fios for internet, tv and phone. The Verizon Actiontec router is connected with a ethernet cable into my desktop and the internet is up and running. Now I bought a Cisco Linksys WRT54GL Wireless-G Broadband Router, and I wanted to connect it to another desktop two floors up. I set up the Cisco router according to the instructions, but I'm not able to connect to the internet. It shows that my computer was able to get a Local Network connection, but internet connection keeps failing.... I tried changing the IP address. But I'm confused about the whole thing. Is the Default gateway number suppose to be the same for both routers? Is it possible that the Actiontec router isnt giving off a strong enough wireless signal? I'm open for suggestions! Thanks

    Mac or Windows machine?
Is the WRT connected directly to the upstairs computer? I don't think you can use the WRT that way?
Have you had a look here?:http://homecommunity.cisco.com/t5/Wireless-Routers/General-Linksys-Router-FAQs/td-p/4286
I THINK you would have to have a WETxx (Ethernet Adapter)  instead?
If it connects to the Internet even breifly then I suppose that means your connected but it may be losing the signal and failng. You would porbably have ot get a WAP(Access Point) and use it as a repeater.
I'm a bit rusty on the names so I hope i got them right, hope it helps.....

  • No Phone Service - Internet and TV Work

It's been 36 hours now and my FiOS Phone Service is still not working.  I called customer service more times than I can count and they haven't been able to do anything.  Nor have they called back when they promised to.  I finally got a tehcnician out here to make a service call.
He was here for 4 1/2 hours.  The reason he was here for so long was because he had to wait for his service calls to his office to be answered.  He spent at least 3 hours on hold for his tech support.  He replaced all of the FiOS equipment in our house as instructed by the techs he was dealing with, and our phone still doesn't work.  He finally said there was no point in his staying here and left.
I'm now on hold with tech support, again.  They've given me plenty of appologies, but no answers.
I left Comcast a year ago because Verizon FiOS was cheaper and supposed to be superior.  It may be cheaper, but it is definitely not better.  In 7 years with Comcast, I never lost my phone service.  Not once.  When I left Comcast, the "Retention Specialist" said "You'll be back."  It looks like he was right.  I'm voiding the year I have left on my contract with Verizon for their failure to provide service and returning to Comcast as soon as they can get me connected.

  • Can't connect AX to Verizon Fios -- Security Issue?

Switched to a Verizon Fios Wireless Router and now I cant get AX to work. Using it for playing audio thru home entertainment system. I'm pretty sure its a security compatibility issue. Below are the Wireless Router settings:
    Radio Enabled: YES
    SSID: XXXXXYY
    Channel: Automatic
    Security Enabled: YES
WEP 64-bit KEY 1 (HEX): XXXXXXXXXX
    WEP 802.1x: N/A
    WPA: N/A
    SSID Broadcast: Enabled
    MAC Authentication: Disabled
Wireless Mode: Mixed - accepts 802.11b and 802.11g connections
    Packets Sent Total: 4625653
    Packets Received: 61781
AX offers two WEP choices -- 128 and 40. As you can see the router is 64. When I choose 128, it does not successfully configure AX. When I try 40, it sets up successfully. But, when I try and use AX for streaming Audio, it works for 1 second and cuts out.
    Thoughts? Thanks for your help.

40/64 bit WEP is extremely weak.
128 bit WEP is a little better.
What you want to use is WPA2 or WPA with a non-dictionary password. If your wireless devices support those wireless encryption protocols you should use that instead of WEP.
Also I would use a wireless utility such as iStumbler to determine which channel to use instead of leaving the router set to "Channel: Automatic".
