Verizon FIOS with Windows 8.1

On my old Windows XP PC I used Outlook Express as my desktop email client, to interface with the Verizon FIOS email server. My new PC runs on Windows 8.1; and I have found no desktop email client program that will work with both Windows 8.1 and the Verizon FIOS email server. I want to be able to store my saved messages on my desktop. Can you please help me?

I don't have personal experience with Win 8.1 (yet), but you might try Mozilla's Thunderbird:
https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/thunderbird-and-windows-8
or Windows Live Mail:
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-live/essentials
Either should store your mail locally and work with the FiOS mail servers.
I use Windows Live Mail 2011 under Windows 7 and have no problem sending or receiving mail, or storing mail on my hard drive.

I tried to sync with USB adapater that came with the phone but I get error message that device driver could not download.  Can someone please help me.
    Thank you.

You cannot natively sync a PalmOS device with a 64bit OS via USB - the solution is to do it wirelessly.

  • 2nd Gen iPod Touch Reboots Westell 9100EM Verizon FiOS Router

I've been round and round with Verizon FiOS with no answers yet.
My iPod Touch 2nd Gen 16GB 3.0 will connect successfully to my FiOS router wirelessly...but as soon as I try to access my mail or any internet site my router reboots. I just got FiOS a week or so ago. They have replaced the router but I still have the same issue. I never had this problem with my cable provider that I had in the past and using my Linksys WRT54G router. As a test, I connected my Linksys to my FiOS router as an access point and turned the wireless off on my FiOS router. As soon as attempted to get my mail on the iPod...the FiOS router rebooted again...but not the Linksys. I have tried using WPA w/TKIP (which I used on my Linksys) as well as WEP (although I don't like WEP).
I'm a Systems Engineer by trade and do this kind of troubleshooting for a living but this has me stumped. Anyone else experience this or have any ideas?

Wow, I never have heard of a device causing a router to reboot. I've got one idea about what could be happening but it is too strange to be the cause. Try updating the router DNS addresses to something that works - like OpenDNS.
Also, I would ask Verizon for another router. Other people certainly don't have this problem.

  • Is Verizon going to acknowlege the problems with FIOS and Windows Vista

For months now, I have been reading the numerous problems Fios internet customers are having with Fios internet/Actiontech Router and Windows Vista and there has been no acknowledgement by Verizon of this current major issue.
I have also experienced the exact same issue for months now since I switched to Verizon FIOS internet. Previously I had Comcast HSI using my Windows Vista laptop.  I had their service for over a year and I NEVER has a problem with the Windows Vista globe icon disappearing and loosing internet connection. The Globe always stayed on and never went away and I never lost connection when I had Comcast
I had Verizon FIOS installed last September with my Windows Vista computer and my wireless internet connection started to drop from day 1 and it has been a daily occurrence for over 5 months now.  It has gotten so bad, I have had to hardwire my laptop to to be able to use the internet uninterrupted.
This is what daily scenario is:
When I turn on my laptop(with Windows Vista, I can initially get full internet access(with the globe on and it says "Local and internet). After about 10 minutes or less, the globe switches to "local only" and I can still get  internet access.  After another 5 or so minutes, a large X covers the globe and I lose internet connection entirely. The actiontech router wireless signal is no longer listed as one of the wireless networks.  The only way for me to regain internet access is either to restart my laptop or reboot the actiontech router.
Numeorus posts here, over by DSL forums(Broadband Reports),Microsoft's website and a few othere websites detail this issue.
I am extremely shocked and surprised that Verizon has not tried to fix this issue by working with both the makers of the Actiontech Router as well as Microsoft to find out what the problem is and how to fix it.
I would just like to reiterate I strongly believe this is primarily a FIOS internet issue since I previously had Comcast HSI for over a year with the same Windows Vista laptop and I NEVER had that problem. Also,  I can connect to my neighbors wireless connection(she uses Comcast HSI) and when I do, the globe stay on all the time on my computer and the internet does not lose connection.
I know that there are a couple of Verizon employees here. Please tell the higher ups who handle FIOS internet that this is a major issue that needs to be resolved as soon as possible.
P.S: Please don't tell me to go by my own router because then, I will have to deal with the issues of setting it up to work with Fios TV and the related VOD, widgets, remote DVR compatability issues to deal with. I don't think I can deal with the additional headaches.

FIOS is short for fiber optics.  fiber optics is different technology than DSL.
With that said, if you search the Microsoft databases for vista issues with fiber optics, (CURRENTLY THERE IS ONLY ONE PROVIDER OF FIBER TO THE HOUSE, that being Verizon, so yes you can also search Vista issues with verizon and\or fios) and you will find that Microsoft already acknowledges this issue with their software.  AND they offer you a fix.

  • Has anyone used Verizon Fios Services with Windows 7 ?

Has anyone used Verizon Fios Services  with Windows 7 ?

Yes Beta And RC. It works the same as Vista, with probably some enhancements. Didn't have any issues, but I did not try wireless.

  • Email photos from iPhoto 8 with Verizon Fios internet

I am totally new to the wonderful mac world. I have a new iMac with Verizon Fios internet. When I try to automatically setup for emailing photos it tries to setup something with "incoming.yahoo....
How do I go about setting up email sharing of photos?

    mrmole
To email photos from within iPhoto you need to use one of the following applications for email:
    1. Apple's Mail (it comes with your Mac)
    2. Entourage
    3. AOL
    4. Eudora
Only these four apps allow direct emailing from within iPhoto. You make your choice in the iPhoto Menu -> Preferences -> General pane.
OF course, you need to set up these clients to work for email with your own email settings. Fir details on how to do that you'll ned to consult the Help on the particular app.
If you use Web-based email, you cannot email from within iPhoto. In that case you can use one, some or any of the following:
For 10.5 users: You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Apple-Click for selecting multiple pics.
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
To upload to a site that does not have an iPhoto Export Plug-in the recommended way is to Select the Pic in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export and export the pic to the desktop, then upload from there. After the upload you can trash the pic on the desktop. It's only a copy and your original is safe in iPhoto.
This is also true for emailing with Web-based services. If you're using Gmail you can use iPhoto2GMail
If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto. With 10.5 you can access the Library from the New Message Window in Mail:
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
Or, if you want to access the files with iPhoto not running, then create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use THIS
    Other options include:
    1. *Drag and Drop*: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
    2. *File -> Export*: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
    3. *Show File*: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.

  • Yoga 13 - Wifi Issue with Verizon FIOS Advanced Router

In an effort to boost the Internet Speed for my wireless devices in my house I upgraded my Verizon FIOS router to their Advanced Router. I had noticed that all of my Wireless Devices were unable to get any more speed than 25/25, when I get 75/35 to my home. I discovered that my router was the issue. So I upgraded and was instantly able to reconnect all of my wireless devices and laptops without any issue, except my Lenovo Yoga 13. It kept getting an error that it could not login to the SSID I would give it. It would see it, but when I put in the password it would fail to connect andd give me a message indicating the same. So I thought I may need to download a newer driver. The Yoga would still attach to my hotspot, so I downloaded the latest WLAN driver. It still would not work, but I notced that it did not dump the old driver, so I deleted it and then I could not attach at all to anything. So I used another unit downloaded all off the WIreless and Bluetooth drivers I could find on the Lenovo site for Windows 8.1 and loaded them back up. I am now able to login to my new router but I get worse speeds than I did before. Now I get 10/20. But I also saw that there are now a bunch of bluetooth and wireless drivers in loaded in control panel, so before I delete any, do I need them all? Are they stepping on each other? What ones are definitely needed? Has anyone gotten anymore than 25/25 out of the Lenovo drivers? And did they ever succeed in hooking it up to a Verizon FIOS Advanced Router?
    Let me know!
    Thanks!

I went into the router and set a static IP address for the ipad (in the low 200's dont use the 100's its for your fios cable dvr's). You will first have to shutdown the ipad (not just sleep). Then delete the ipad from the connection list in the fios router. The instructions from the fios router pdf are below. I am on 24 hrs and even with wep and no fixed channel I have had no problems.
To define a new connection with a fixed IP address:
    1. Click New Static Connection in the DHCP Connections screen. The “DHCP Connection Settings” screen appears.
    2. Enter a host name for this connection.
    3. Enter the fixed IP address to assign to the computer.
    4. Enter the MAC address of the computer’s network card.
    5. Click the OK to save changes.
☞ Note: A device’s fixed IP address is actually assigned to the specific
network card’s MAC address installed on the network computer.
If this network card is replaced, the device’s entry in the DHCP Connections list must be updated with the new network card’s MAC address.
To remove a host from the table, click the appropriate “Delete” icon in the Action column.

  • Verizon Fios Wireless Compatibility Issues with MacBook Pro

    Good afternoon,
We have Verizon Fios as our internet provider. We both have PCs that are connected to the router and my husband has a laptop that connects both via an ethernet cable and wirelessly. We do not have any problems connecting our PCs and the laptop to the Verizon Fios service.
In December of 2007, I purchased a MacBook Pro. For several months, my ability to connect wirelessly with my MacBook Pro was great. However, beginning around March of 2008, my wireless connection began to become sporadic. Now, my ability to connect wirelessly to Fios varies based upon where I am in our home. When in the same room as the router or in the room above the router, my connection is great. I have no issues. In all other rooms, I either cannot connect wirelessly or the connection is sporadic at best.
I have spoken with Apple Customer Service and Verizon Fios Customer Service on numerous occasions. My last discussion resulted in the service representative telling me that there are inherent problems with connecting Fios and Apple and I would either have to switch to all Fios components or all Apple components. As long as I have both components connected to each other, I will continue to experience problems.
Per Verizon, we upgraded our firmware and changed our security settings. These changes did not help. Per an Apple sales clerk, I purchased an Airport Express Base Station. When I arrived home and called customer service to help me connect it, I was told that it would not help my situation.
Please tell me there are other options. The whole point of having a laptop is so I'm not restricted to one location.
    Thank you,

I am having the same problem, although we have been experiencing the problem with a Windows machine as well. Sporadic internet is very frustrating! Right now it's working fine two stories above the router on my MBP, but I'm constantly checking the airport meter to see if I've lost my connection. 20 minutes ago I had nothing. It does seem to work consistently if I'm in the room next to the router. Hopefully Verizon comes up with a solution.
You wouldn't happen to be having Kernel Panics when waking your MBP from sleep, too, would you?

  • WiFi with Windows 7 (64bit) and without Verizon Software???

    Hopefully someone can help...
Bought my wife a new Windows 7 (64bit) based laptop for Christmas...The first thing that floored me was that I can no longer download and install MSN Premium for my machines...not at all happy about that, especially since we have been using this since it was first offered (by Microsoft, not Verizon),
Now I find I can't use the WiFi because the software is not compatible with Windows 7 as well...this was especially aggravating as I specifically looked into compatibility issues prior to buying the laptop and the website says it works with both 32 & 64 bit Windows 7...well, it doesn't.
Is there a way to log onto the Verizon hotspots using the Windows 7 native WiFi applications?  I have a user and password for the WiFi service (which works really well on the older XP system)...but I do not know if I can access the Verizon HotSpots without the Verizon software...any suggestions???
    Thanks for any input!!

  • Is Fios compatible with Windows 7 64-Bit?

I would like to know if Verizon FIOS is compatible with windows 7 64-bit because I've seen some topics on the internet where there are problems with it. If you need more info about the computer, please let me know, but keep in mind that my computer has pretty decent specs. (corei7 processor, Gigs of ram, ATI Radeon 5770, etc )
Thanks for any help you can give me.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

To expand on the first reply, I do have FiOS TV and internet, and there is absolutely no need to install any Verizon software on your computer to use the service. I do not currently have any installed on my Windows 7 64-bit system that I am typing this on right now, have been using this laptop since Oct 22, 2009 with Windows 7 on FiOS, works fine.
And if you do decide you want to install some Verizon software, my experience is that some probably will work, some probably will not. For example, the Verizon Call Assistant (VCA) client didn't work worth a *&^%#@, at least for me, but I don't need it as I have a very reliable Caller ID on TV setup and if I really need to access VCA I can use the website anyway. (and FWIW, that client didn't work correctly on Windows XP either!). I tried the PC-based In-Home Agent client, sort of seemed to work, but since I didn't have any problems or issues that needed to be fixed I deleted it.
Unless you really need a specific Verizon program, don't worry about it.
And just for completeness, I have not yet found any sofware, fee or free, from anybody, that won't work with FiOS, be it email (Windows Live Mail), browser (IE, Firefox, Safari, or Chrome), Avast anti-virus, etc, etc, etc. Of course I am sure that there is at least one program out there that won't work, but so far I have not found it
Edit: just saw your reply. I pay for 25 mbs down, 15 mbs up service, and I typically get 24+ down and 23+ up, wired or wireless, from multiple speed test sites, no tuning of Windows 7 on my part. It just works for me; some people do seem to have performance and/or connectivity issues, l don't and I don't know why they do. But one thing I will warn you about is that if you have a cordless phone (2.4 GHz) and you decide to use wireless, you may experience some connectivity problems when using the wireless connection, if you do try changing the channel number in the router to 1, 6, or 11.
    Hope this helps.

  • Using FIOS optimizer with Windows 7

I just recently upgraded my computer using a clean install from Vista Home Premium 64-bit to Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. When I had Vista, I used the FIOS optimizer & it helped my upload speed. I was able to use the FIOS speed test & showed my speed at around 25/4. I should be getting 25/15. Does anyone know if the FIOS optimizer is compatible with Windows 7?  Has anyone with Windows 7 even  tried using the optimizer?

Aha!  Now we get to the heart of the matter.    (The unreliability of Verizon's software.)
I have the 20/5 package, and though my Verizon test results may be  20.046/4.672, I get the flashing red light
("Danger Danger Will Robinson, your system is NOT OPTIMIZED!!!!")
So, I follow the links to get through the click maze to the Optimizer tool and finally run it only to be told:  Your system is ALREADY OPTIMIZED.  You don't need this!   LOL
Then if I go back and run the speed test again I get the flashing red light all over again.
By the way, I've called in about the difference between my upload speed (actual) and the published speed and the tech got testy with me.  What?  You expect to get all of that?  Whaddarya, **bleep**?  (He didn't really say it that way, but his tone did.)  Now this is not to say that I have had all bad experiences with Verizon's people, because there are some really nice ones out there.
Anyway, back to the point, for I digress.  My system is tweaked just fine, and I'm not sure what part it plays but I run Optimize software whenever I do a new install.  Here's their page for what it's worth:
    http://www.pcpitstop.com/store/optimize.asp?gclid=CPfCqMrmoZ8CFZaV7QodxUP5Iw
Their online system test has proven helpful to me as well.
Another way to tweak your system is to go to DrTCP: http://www.dslreports.com/drtcp
The site is hard to find your way around, but if you dig you can find where they make recommendations for your settings.  I find that after I run Optimize (again, not sure how much it helps) all I need to do when I run DrTCP is change my TCP Receive Window setting to 1045440.  Not sure where I came up with that figure, but I think it was a nice and helpful Verizon tech who steered me to this site long ago....
It's ok to try to reinvent the wheel, but just make sure it's round.

  • Airport Extreme Network - Changing from Verizon DSL to Fios (with TV)

I am currently using Verizon DSL for internet access. My present network is stable with an Airport Extreme Base (New version) and two Airport Express running MDS for range extension, providing wireless access for a Macbook and a PC laptop (my wife's connection to her office/Exchange server via VPN). Two G4 desktop Macs are occasionally connected to the network. One AE provides network access to a shared printer. I routinely use Back to My Mac. The network also provides remote (internet) access to an old model iSight camera and to an inexpensive wireless camera which are served by Evocam software.
I have ordered Verizon Fios bundled services (TV-Internet-Phone) for installation on October 18. The service make sense for many reasons, BUT! A multitude of posts on various boards are telling horror stories about setup problems and failure of certain services to work with Fios, particularly in newer installations that include TV.
My question is this: Am I about to step into an inescapable swamp? Should I cancel the order.

Yup, this is expected behavior.  What printer model? What operating system?
Say thanks by clicking "Kudos" "thumbs up" in the post that helped you.

  • Need help with Airport Extreme and my new Verizon Fios Internet connection

I just got the Fios install, and the tech and I couldn't figure out how to use my Airport Extreme as my wireless connection. I'm not real tech savvy (and I've only been a Mac guy for about 18 months). My current arrangement is the basic Verizon setup with the Airport out of the loop. How can I go about moving from here back to using my Airport Extreme? I need the range! Thanks in advance for your help.

Have you tried resetting and reconfiguring the AirPort Extreme base station (AEBS)?
Are you using OS 10.5 or OS 10.4 or earlier?
Are you using the round 802.11b/g AEBS or the square 802.11b/g/n AEBS?
If you are using OS10.5 OR the square 802.11b/g/n AEBS you should refer to "Designing AirPort Networks Using AirPort Utility" (direct PDF link).
Otherwise you should refer to "Designing AirPort Extreme Networks" (direct PDF link).

  • Bad experience with Verizon Fios Internet and Customer Service

I had an extremely bad experience with Verizon Fios Internet service and I will never use Verizon again.
In August 2014, I called and installed the Verizon Fios Internet and phone bundle. I asked the customer agent several times if I will be charged anything before the installation of the Internet and phone service. She said, 'No, we will only start charging after the Internet and phone are installed at your apartment'. I went to the store and picked up the router and phone and installed it at home by myself. The router did not work. I called Tech support and they said it will take several days for another available agent to come and look into the issue. I decided to discontinue the service and closed the account that same night.
At the end of the month, I received a bill of $80 of activation fee for the internet service. Nothing was ever activated, my internet router did not work, and I got charged an activation fee for a service that I did not even start using. From August to December, I called customer service over 10 times and some of them said they will waive it while the others said it's a non-refundable activation fee. One lady said, 'Ma'am, the activation fee starts when you placed the order, the warehouse received it and packed the router in the boxes....' Isn't that ridiculous? If that's the case, please ask all your customer representative to say a clause before new customers open their account: Are you aware that you will be charged a non-refundable activation fee once you open the account regardless of whether or not you use the service or not.
So after 3 months (November 2014), I decided to get out of all these troubles and paid off my $80 activation fee. They put the bill in the collection agency and I called them and paid the overdue balance. Then in December 2014, I received a statement saying I have a $3.11 overdue balance. The collection agency told me that they will charge me for the whole activation fee and a $3 transaction fee for the transaction. So now Verizon came back and said I owed them the $3 because I paid the collection agency their transaction fee.
I am very disappointed and furious about the whole Verizon operating system. Charging a customer for an activation fee for a service s/he has not consumed or used does not make any business sense. In addition, they do not know how to coordinate with the collection agency on overdue bills. Give the customer a heads-up that they will be charged a transaction fee on top of the overdue balance, and that transaction fee does not count towards clearing the balance.
I have completely lost my confidence in Verizon albeit the many good feedback from my friends.

    Hi crystallau52,
Sorry you are having difficulty. An agent with access to your account will reach out to you directly by email, private message in the Forums and/or the billing telephone number on your Verizon account for more information or to help you resolve your issue.

  • Setting up New Airport Extreme with Verizon Fios Actiontec MI-424-WR Modem

I just purchased the new Airport Extreme to run my network at home. My internet provider is Verizon Fios. With their installs, they use an Actiontec MI424WR modem/router. I would like to disable the router part of the Actiontec and use the AEBS for my router. Any advice on how to accomplish this? Thanks.

ufbrad24, Welcome to the discussion area!
FiOS does not require a modem. The Actiontec device is a router only.
You could replace the Actiontec completely with the AirPort Extreme base station (AEBS). Many have discovered that this can be done by a quick call to Verizon.
